Itinerary
Day 1
1
We will come to pick you up and your adventure starts with a scenic early morning train journey from Cusco or Ollantaytambo to the 104 km mark.
The commencement point of the short Inca Trail. As the train traverses the valley, it transforms into a striking canyon, entering a cloud forest, offering a change in landscape. After around an hour and ten minutes, the train halts, and you'll proceed with the necessary check-in at the main checkpoint to start your hike.
Accompanied by your knowledgeable guide, the first stop is Chachabamba, an ancient archaeological site, where you'll gain insights into its historical significance. The trail then leads you uphill, offering awe-inspiring views.
Upon reaching Wiñayhuayna, your guide will share details about this Inca site and the surrounding rich biodiversity. Following this exploration, enjoy a well-deserved box lunch at the Wiñayhuayna checkpoint before continuing your two-hour trek towards Machu Picchu.
Your arrival at Machu Picchu is through the Sun Gate, presenting a spectacular view, particularly as the sun begins to set, offering your first sight of the majestic citadel. As most day visitors depart, you’ll experience Machu Picchu in a quieter setting, perfect for photographs and exploration.
The day ends with a bus ride to Aguas Calientes, where you'll check into your hotel. The evening is free for you to dine at one of Aguas Calientes' fine restaurants and rest up for another exciting day ahead.
Day 2
2
Get ready for an exhilarating day as we head to the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu! To beat the crowds and enjoy the serene morning ambiance, we'll start from our hotel early. Machu Picchu opens from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., and we'll take a bus to this hidden Royal Citadel of the Incas. Our 2-hour guided tour will unveil the wonders of Machu Picchu, including its majestic temples, terraces, palaces, residences for priests, the sundial, and areas dedicated to industry and agriculture. The extraordinary craftsmanship of the Incas, who built this sustainable and beautiful community without modern tools, steel, or iron, will leave you in awe. Following the tour, you'll have ample time for independent exploration. Seize the opportunity to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (booking tickets in advance is essential!), or wander over to the Incan Bridge. You'll have over five hours to immerse yourself in the mystique of this ancient city.
After exploring, a bus will take us back to Aguas Calientes. Here, you can opt for lunch at a local restaurant (not included in the tour).
Post-lunch, you'll board a train to Ollantaytambo at either 2:55 p.m., 3:20 p.m., or 4:22 p.m.
Upon arrival, Peru Hikers' private car will be waiting to escort you back to your hotel. Prepare yourself for a day filled with adventure and lasting memories!

Our trip was amazing!!!! Our tour guide was Isao. We did the 7 mile hike on the first day from km 104 off the train and straight to the hike. It was perfect! Did an Inca history lesson in the beginning which was so cool and then started the hike. Had many stops as needed. Our tire guide encouraged it so we wouldn’t get too exhausted. Lunch was provided and was bomb! Ended the first day at Machu Pichu and the whole time Isao was sprinkling in history, cool facts, animal/bird/bug information as we walked along the hike. Then did a fire dinner later in the evening. Next day was an early wake up call, but wow it was worth it. Isao knows what’s going on, what he’s talking about, and made the whole trip so good. 2nd day was so sick, we went to the top of the mountain over looking Machu Picchu and was breathtaking. Isao led the way and was just so thoughtful, careful, and encouraging of everything. He took great care of us. And he is legit with the iPhone taking pictures. All of the pictures were so dam good at the end it was crazy. Overall, we had such a blast. I would recommend a private tour because then you guys can all help and stay close together. Big groups looked much more difficult to get through. Isao was the absolute man the whole time. Could g recommend him enough. He speaks dam good English, knows what he’s talking about, and one of the best photographers with a standard iPhone that I have ever met. You’ll have a blast. Just do you own due diligence before hand in regards to getting your cardio in shape, proper hot and rainy attire, shoes, AND get acclimated before heading to Cusco.
We were met with Isao our guide at Kilometre 104 on the train to Aguas Calientes. We jumped off the train and he greeted us with a smile and a warm welcome! The trek was mainly all up hill with so many steps but the views were spectacular and Isao encouraged us to stop for a breather whenever we needed. He was full of information about the trail, the Incas, the history and how Matchu Picchu ended up being left. His enthusiasm for the history of his country was admirable and captivating to listen to. He took sooo many photos of us in different areas and I think if he ever gave up being a guide he could become a photographer as he had a real skill in it! Well worth the cost as we had a really wonderful time and would definitely recommend to other travellers in this wonderful part of the world.
We didn’t just go to Machu Picchu — we VISITED! And what an experience! 🇵🇪 Our Short Inka Trek with Peru Hikers was truly once in a lifetime, and so much of what made it special was our amazing guide, Isao. Communication is everything and from our very first contact, Peru Hikers gave us complete confidence that we were in safe hands. They handled everything — tickets, hotels, transfers and logistics — and communication was excellent throughout. Everything was organised, clear and reassuring. The night before our trek, Isao personally contacted us to introduce himself, run through the itinerary and made sure we had everything we needed. At around 4am the next morning, our private taxi collected us from our Cusco hotel and took us to Ollantaytambo, where we caught the train to Aguas Calientes. The Short Inka Trek began at Km 104, where we finally met Isao. What a guy! Friendly, knowledgeable, passionate and full of enthusiasm. It was obvious how much he loves his job, and that enthusiasm was completely contagious. He guided us safely along the trail, shared fascinating stories about the history of Machu Picchu and even captured some incredible photographs and videos for us along the way. We laughed and learned and we were completely blown away by Machu Picchu. A huge thank you to Peru Hikers and especially Isao for making this such an unforgettable experience. You took care of every detail, allowing us to simply enjoy the adventure. We hope the videos, photographs and laughter you captured will help you show others just how fantastic your service is. If you’re thinking about visiting Machu Picchu, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Peru Hikers.
Very exciting. Very patient. Very informative. Will use them again. Had cramps on the trail and was accommodating with my cramps.
This trip couldn’t have been any better. Our tour guide Saul made it perfect. Peru Hikers is the best possible company you can book with, communication was great, they speak perfect English and are extremely knowledgeable of not just Machu Piccu but the entire region. They truly care that you have a great experience and will go out of their way to achieve that.
Our guide for 3 days was Isao. He was amazing - extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and fun. Isao was a great guide for our family trip. We toured the Sacred Valley with him, and he shared many personal stories and history of the area with us. He also led our 1 day hike on the Inka Trail to Machu Picchu to the Sun Gate, and along circuit 1. We then explored circuit 3 with him the following day. He was energetic and always willing to answer our many, and repeated questions. And he's an amazing photographer! He went above and beyond. Also, the travel logistics organized by Peru Hikers were seamless. they made our reservations for hotels, train and access to the sites. Worked out flawlessly
The tour it was excellent and the guide it made it very interesting! The Machu Picchu was tge best experience so far in Peru.
An amazing trip. Machu Picchu was spectacular - 100% worth the trip. Peru Hikers were incredible with every detail. Isao Perez 5 stars guide. He clearly loves what he does and is highly knowledgeable. Transportation was smooth, accommodations and food was excellent. I would 100% use them again.
Choosing the perfect tour guide to complement the perfect holiday destination makes it indubitably outstanding! Peru Hikers was our first choice - and they did exceed our expectations! From the Sacred Valley day tour to the pretty gruelling 2d/1N Short Incap trail. Isao was knowledgeable about local customs and knew the ins and outs of the route. What a difference Isao made to our trip. The photo spits he chose for us was outstanding. And we have hundreds of photos to prove it. Go with Isao and Peru Hikers - you won't regret it.
I visited Machu Picchu and it was absolutely amazing. John was my tour guide and he was brilliant. He gave me all the information I would need to make the day run smoothly. He is very knowledgeable about the history and the story. As well as the best spots and photos to take. He went above and beyond to make sure I had a great time. He even managed to sneakily get me into Circuit 3! I enjoyed my time and would 100% recommend!
Forget the one day visit to Machu Picchu, do this instead. The trail is stunningly beautiful and our guide, Isao was a wealth of knowledge from Inca culture to botanics and animals. With his help we managed to see a Toucan which was very special. We could hike at our own pace while enjoying the amazing mountain landscape and Inca ruins. I highly recommend this trail to all, no need for much experience, just bring the correct gear. The view from Sun Gate is well worth it and you even pass the upper terraces for the Instagram pictures. The tour through Machu Picchu the following day (route 3) gives a really good sense of Inca culture and everyday life. All in all, just do it.
We had a wonderful experience with Peru Hikers. They were extremely professional, the communication was excellent and they were flexible to include a departure from Ollantaytambo instead of Cusco. The guide was very nice, caring and highly knowledgeable. We did the 2 days inca trail trip which includes one day of trail and one day of visit of Machu Picchu. The trail is fabulous. It’s moderately difficult but the guide was making many stops to ensure everyone could follow at his own rythme. The arrival at the sun door with the view on macchu picchu was incredible. All the organization was perfect. Our lunch boxes were very tasty. Overall it was a smooth and perfect experience. And their price was very competitive vs alternative tour operators. I would highly recommend them and this tour!!!!
Very nice hike with stunning views and interesting historical sites. We were lucky to get Isao as our guide. He sheared of his knowledge and was inspiring to listen to. Highly recommended
From the very beginning of the Tour until its end we were very well acompanied. Transport from Cusco to meetingpoint at km 104 was well organized. During hiking up to Machu Picchu our guide not only explained ecological and geographical aspects, but also adopted the walking rythm to our hiking skills. The very professional guiding through the overcrowded settlement of Machu Picchu permited us to get aquanted with different aspects of history and tecniques of this World Wonder. We recomend this tour very much to people interested in a respectful visit to Machu Picchu and its suroundings.
Isao is the best guide I've ever met. I did the hike to Machu Picchu twice. The first time the company allocated Isao as my guide. The second time I chose him consciously. Isao is a very positive, kind and knowledgeable guide. He gave a lot of informations about the history and culture of Peru and made a lot of fun with the group. I'm looking forward to doing my third trail in Peru with Isao. :-)
What an unbelievable experience! Isao is a great guide and an even better person. Hiking the Inca trail was an unforgettable experience and I’d recommend it to anyone!
Thankyou Peru Hikers for such a superbly organised Inca Trail trek. Everyone in your team did their utmost to make this a memorable trip for us. Special thanks to our tour guide Bernie who was fun, knowledgeable and great company. A trek which we will remember forever.
I took a tour, short inca trail. They took me from my hotel and everything was planned nice. They answer each WP question very fast. Guide, Bernie, who took me to trial was great and very knowlegable. I enjoyed every moment.
Excellent choice!! All very good organised and the hike was a great experience. Elisban my local guide was very helpful and well informed about everything.
The trail was challenging, bur the guide Bernie kept the pace as per my wishes. Bernie stopped at all overlooks and the falls. The weather was mostly cooperative so I had amazing and magnificient views. Bernie was history buff and explained all Inca ruins and monuments simply and precisely. Having little Inca knowledge, the trail has made me learn more about the Incas and and their rich history The trek took us around 6 hours. I would definitely recommend Peru Hikers for this short Inca trail.
I loved Machu Pichu but also the attention of the guide was excellent explained us about the history and took perfect photos
The short Inca trail is fantastic! On the way we found some wonderful ruins! The landscapes are beautiful! The trail is quite demanding, as it has many stairs, which are very tiring. Some parts are quite exposed to the sun, others less. So it is very important to wear a hat, blouses and protective pants. We did with the Peru Hikers with the guide Clinton. Communication was very good with the Enterprise. Clinton was a fantastic guide! Very careful, respectful, generous and told us of Quechua culture from a particular and proud point of view, because he himself is a direct descendant of this culture! Anyway, we love it!
This 2 day tour has a price tag but for the full Machu Picchu tour it is worth it. The incatrail is breathtaking. We were lucky enough to have a private tour with our Guide Isao so it was completely decorated to our needs and wishes. Hotel and restaurant for dinner excellent.
We decided to make this eukaryotic on the Recommendation of a crumb, instead of going straight to MachuPicchu. The choice was the right one as the 12km we travelled on foot is preparing you for the wonder you will see at the end. Along the way you will see other constructions that are also expectacular and a lot of nature. Our Guide has been explaining everything with great kindness. A very nice tour. Thanks to Elijah (our Guide).
The road to Machupicchu is spectacular and once you are there you are amazed by its beauty It is a highly recommended experience
Marcial is the best guide in Peru! We did the Inca trail with him, a very nice person and great company for these two days.
We did the Inka trail for days with Marcial, and it was the best of the entire trip. The route has magical views, we have really enjoyed the days thanks to the company of our guide who has encouraged us throughout the journey. I 100% recommend this tour and especially doing it with Marcel. I hope to meet him again on other tours.
We have been lucky enough to do this tour with Marcial, our guide has been attentive to us at all times, making the Inca trail as easy as possible for us, which was a bit complicated for us. The organization deserves a ten and so does our guide. Thank you for this experience.
Incredible service!!!! The guide was a great professional, always attentive so that we did not miss anything and we focused on enjoying. In conclusion, an extraordinary experience and service!!!!
Overall a fantastic trip. We got a lot with us by walking the short Inca trail, and a good number of great photo spots. The second day in Macchu Picchu was also an experience, with a guide (Isao) who knew his history. 👌👍Happy
This was a fantastic experience with the most skilled guide👏 Isao saw everyone in the group, took many great photos and knew their history.
Great experience. We were 6 in the group and our wonderful guide Isao made this an unforgettable trip! Highly recommended.
I recommend this trek to be done over 2 days. Day 1 consists of crossing the Inca Trail and once there we have the reward of seeing Machu Picchu. Thanks to our guide Watchi who shared a lot of information with us.
