We were disappointed with our stay and, unfortunately, do not feel this hotel lives up to its four-star rating. The rooms are outdated, damp, and well below the standard you would expect from a four-star hotel. The bathroom, in particular, felt more like one you would find in a roadside motel. It was very small, had a plastic shower curtain instead of a proper shower enclosure, and showed clear signs of poor maintenance. The bathroom door was difficult to close because of a loose towel rack, and the wardrobe doors were hanging crooked. The front desk staff were friendly and welcoming, which we appreciated. However, the overall service lacked organisation. Dinner service felt chaotic, and there seemed to be little oversight during busy periods. Both the breakfast and dinner buffets were adequate but nothing more. The selection was sufficient, but the dining area was extremely crowded and chaotic, making the experience feel impersonal. The food was acceptable, but it lacked the quality and level of service you would expect from a hotel in this category. One of the hotel’s biggest strengths is its beautiful location. The grounds are well maintained and provide a lovely setting, which made our stay more enjoyable. Overall, while the location is attractive and the staff are friendly, the accommodation and dining experience fall short of four-star expectations. Based on our experience, we would not rate this hotel as a four-star property.
This was our second year staying at Sabie River Sun, and unfortunately our experience was much the same as last year. The resort has a beautiful location and plenty of potential, but it feels like maintenance and guest service are being neglected. The bed was uncomfortable (the same issue we experienced last year) in the same unit, the air conditioner made a constant noise, and there was a damp, musty smell coming from it. Housekeeping also missed basic essentials. We had to request toilet paper because it wasn’t replaced during servicing. One thing we found disappointing is that the cold drink prices are not displayed on the menu, which makes ordering difficult, especially as the drinks are quite expensive. What frustrated us most was that raising these concerns with reception made little difference. Staff were polite, but the problems were not resolved, despite bringing them to their attention. This is a resort with great potential in a fantastic location, but unless maintenance and customer service improve, it will be difficult to recommend or return.
Located in Hazyview, this resort is perfectly positioned for those wanting to explore the Kruger National Park. It offers the classic "Sun Resort" experience with a great balance of relaxation and activities. Standout Features The highlight of the resort is the collection of detached, stand-alone cottages scattered across the property. These offer a much more private, family-oriented experience compared to standard hotel rooms. On-site, the amenities are extensive—from the golf course and gaming areas to the unique "Hippo and Crocodile" dam, where you can safely view these animals from a distance. The Room Experience While the location is exquisite, the interiors are in need of a refresh. The carpets are quite old and give the rooms a dated feel that doesn't quite match the beauty of the surroundings. A significant practical issue is the ventilation; after a shower, the steam tends to linger for a long time, making the room feel damp and stuffy. Dining and Crowds The bed and breakfast facilities are convenient, but be warned that during peak holiday periods or weekends, the restaurant and breakfast areas can become extremely crowded. It’s best to head to breakfast early to avoid the rush and ensure a more relaxed start to your day. Highlights: Prime Location: Just a short, convenient drive to the Kruger National Park gates. Unique Accommodation: The stand-alone units are perfect for families seeking a "home away from home" vibe. Wildlife Viewing: Having a hippo and crocodile dam on-site is a fantastic bonus. Downsides: Dated Interiors: Old carpets and a general need for modernization. Poor Ventilation: Rooms tend to stay misty and humid after using the bathroom. Peak Hour Crowds: Restaurant areas can feel overwhelmed during busy times.
Amazing hotel and staff. The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff were helpful and had really good service, the hotel went out of their way to make our anniversary really special. The entertainment every night was lots of fun, as well the day time activities at the pool. The hotel is centrally located giving good access to activities in the area. The Food however could be alot better with more of a variety and cleanliness of counters , cutlery and plates should be inspected before dining times. Overall great resort.
