Rovaniemi: Snowmobile Wilderness Tour, Small Group & Local Guide

Oh my gosh - book the tour!! My friend and I took my daughter and her friend on this 3 hour experience, and it was money well spent!! One of the cool things about our tour was that we started in daylight and then when we were coming back, it was dark so we got the best of both worlds!! our tour guide was amazing and definitely prepared you and made sure you felt comfortable driving. And they had overalls and helmets and gloves and boots and socks to keep you warm. The view at Sunset was amazing! Absolutely recommend this tour 100%!! sorry for the late review!

When booking the snowmobile tour, I knew that one thing was especially important to me — a small group. I couldn’t have chosen a better snowmobile agency. I was lucky that the owner was also our guide. There were only three of us on the tour. From the very beginning, the owner was extremely warm and calm. He explained everything clearly during the briefing. He was very informative, and I was especially surprised by how he handled an unexpected situation I found myself in 🫣 The couple from Germany also contributed to making this a wonderful experience. So overall: a kind owner, good equipment, a beautiful landscape, and lovely guests with whom I shared this unforgettable experience. Thank to all of you, Marko, Tomas & Paula the wonderful 3 hours tour we had ! We will never forget the amazing landscapes, the sun lights in the trees, far way from civilization... It was very cold this day (-25/-30ºC) but PolarMax is so professional and at the same time a small business family, that everything was perfectly organized : clothes, boots, heated parts of the snow mobiles, adapted helmets for people wearing glasses. Everything done for the safety and the well being of their customers. Our guide Tomas was so caring, patient, friendly and give us very clear instructions to drive. At the way back, Paula had prepared some hot drinks and very nice buiscuits. And thanks a lot also to Marko who collected us at Rovaniemi and took care of us giving information too. We had an amazing snowmobile tour through a breathtaking landscape of forests, rivers, and frozen lakes. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and made the whole experience unforgettable. All the necessary equipment was provided by POLARMAX, which made everything very easy and comfortable. Before the tour started, we received a thorough and professional introduction, so even beginners could feel safe and confident. During the tour, Marko and his wife shared many interesting stories and information about the country, the region, and the local people, which made the experience even more special. At the end of the tour, we were welcomed with coffee or tea and warm pastries — a perfect and cozy finish to a fantastic adventure. Highly recommended!

We came from Norway, and it was worth driving such a long way because of the great ride, we are very satisfied, we had a great time, maybe the extreme ride was missing, but everything was very good, I recommend it to everyone 10 points

Our snowmobile tour with Polarmax Rovaniemi was absolutely fantastic and one of the highlights of our entire trip! From the very beginning, we received an incredibly warm welcome and immediately felt comfortable. Despite freezing temperatures of -26°C (-15°F), we were perfectly equipped with thick thermal overalls, warm boots, and even hand and foot warmers. Thanks to this excellent equipment, we could fully enjoy the adventure without feeling cold. The safety briefing was professional, clear, and gave us complete confidence before setting off. And the scenery – simply breathtaking! We rode across frozen lakes, through deeply snow-covered forests, and even up a small hill with meters-high snow. The landscape around Rovaniemi looked like something out of a winter fairytale – untouched, peaceful, and unbelievably beautiful. Every single moment felt magical. After this unforgettable ride, we warmed up with coffee and hot chocolate, accompanied by delicious cinnamon buns – the perfect ending to an extraordinary experience. This was an awesome tour with awesome guides! I have never driven a snowmobile and they made it simple and safe for myself and the group. Their shared snow gear was clean and in good shape. The guides placed safety above all but that doesn't mean we didn't get to go fast or that the tour was boring. What impressed me most was that they needed us to change our time and instead of just telling us, "sorry, if you can't make it we'll refund you..." they actually paid for a taxi to come get us and take us back to our hotel since our hotel shuttle didn't run at the new time we needed to be there. Some of these excursions are in and out which I get it especially in high season. This company really cared about your experience. They love the sport and want you to also appreciate it. We went over frozen lakes, rivers, uphill trails, under power lines, and ended on a hill top with a beautiful view. This is how you want to experience Lapland, with these people.

Absolutely amazing experience! We met Paula and Marku on arrival. Initially we booked a shared snowmobile experience, however when we got there, we were the only ones booked for the day. Marku (the guide) suggested we upgrade to a snowmobile each, to better enjoy the experience. We are so glad to have done so! After a short teaching session with Marku, we were geared up in warm clothing and ready to go. We did a practice round on site before departing to the route. With Marku at the front giving us clear directions we enjoyed a 4h drive along frozen lakes and trails within snowy forests. Absolutely stunning views all the way. We had breaks along the way allowing for video and photo opportunities. Marku expertise was impressive and reassuring. He made sure to check in frequently and adapted the experience to our skill level. The heated steering handles were amazing to keep us warm, and you could titrate the temperature yourself. At the end of the day they shared a photo album of the experience. Both Marku and Paula were super friendly and knowledgeable. Would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone an would definitely come back :D

Our snowmobile tour, with Marco as our guide, was fabulous from start to finish. The equipment was first class and we certainly appreciated the heated controls and clothing provided to combat the extreme cold! Unbelievably beautiful scenery through forests and across frozen lakes. It was a first for us so being part of a small group of 4 was perfect. It was definitely a highlight of our trip. I would recommend having a snowmobile each, if you can. I took this decision at the last minute and was so glad that I did.

An absolutely fantastic snowmobile experience with PolarMax from start to finish. I was part of a very small group which made the tour feel personal and well organized. PolarMax keeps the groups intentionally small, so you’re not stuck riding in large, slow-moving groups of riders and can truly enjoy the experience. My guide, Tomas, was extremely friendly, helpful and highly professional with great attention to both safety and the overall experience. The winter clothing provided was high quality, the snowmobiles were new and in excellent condition and everything felt very well managed. The surroundings were truly stunning—about 20 minutes outside Rovaniemi, riding through beautiful forests, across a frozen lake and along a river. An unforgettable adventure that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

PolarMax is by far the most professional provider of snowmobile tours that I have booked with in Finland and Norway to date. It starts with a detailed theoretical briefing, during which all the details are explained clearly. The professionalism continues with the equipment and snowmobiles: each guest is advised and equipped individually. As a glasses wearer, I was given heated ski goggles and a flip-up helmet with a heated visor. During our visit, temperatures were below -30 degrees Celsius. Great care was taken during the consultation and the ride. The snowmobiles are as good as new and have heated seats and heated handles for the passenger as special features, a unique selling point of great value! Before the actual tour, there are tips on how to handle the snowmobile and test laps are carried out to get to know the vehicle, only then does the tour begin. PolarMax is a small, highly specialized family run company with Marko as the owner and Thomas as the second guide. Both train snowmobile pilots and know what they are doing. In addition, both are from the area and know the tracks and their dangers very well. This meant that our 6-hour tour was bound to be a unique success, with riding in small groups. Marko was a wonderful guide and gave us a wonderful, unforgettable day on the tracks through the forests and across snow-covered lakes and rivers – thank you so much! Highly recommended.

I highly recommend PolarMax for a snowmobile tour in Rovaniemi. We did the 6 hour full day snowmobile tour with my family of 5. Each person had their own snowmobile. Their machines are new and perfectly maintained, and all the clothing and safety equipment was provided. Marco is a great guide. He is friendly and highly skilled, and he did a great job of assessing the ability levels of everyone and adapting the ride accordingly. My 3 kids had never been snowmobiling before and they all had a great time. Marco took us through forest trails, frozen lakes, and power lines. The location of PolarMax is about a 20 minute drive from the center of Rovaniemi, and this is perfect because the trails were completely uncrowded and the wilderness is super beautiful. The day we went, it was -16 C (3 deg F), and it did not feel cold due to the heated handlebars and proper gear. I would recommend the full day tour, as we got to go a long distance and eat lunch at a restaurant. Super fun!

The tour was amazing. We had -25 degrees that day. But PolarMax Adventures was prepared in the best way you can imagine. Parts of the snow mobiles were also heated, which made the tour much easier on the driver as well as the passenger. Our guide was so caring, patient and friendly. We were a small group which was very pleasant, far away from crowds. We drove by fascinating landscapes. A day we will never forget, that is for sure. We would always come back to PolarMax. Highlight of our trip. Very professional and friendly. Highly recommend Polarmax for a small private group. They even looked after my husband who ended up unwell, giving him some medicine and a blanket. Sadly he missed doing the tour. The tour itself was magical and exhilarating. The Polarmax snowmobile adventure was an amazing day out. I turned up and was the only person in my group so I had a private tour with Toumas. We drove through the most amazing scenery and landscapes from forests to frozen lakes and private trails. The sunrising over the mountains was beautiful and an unforgettable experience. Toumas was a great guide always checking to see if I was okay and warm enough. Equipment provided was excellent. Highly recommend if you want a personal experience away from the crowds. 10/10

Wonderful day snowmobiling with family of 5. Pick up from town was seamless and was warmly greeted when we arrived about 20 mins out of town. The gear and facilities are top class and we had a group of 12 people which made it really personal. The snowmobiles were so much fun and we travelled through amazing snow filled forests and frozen lakes. After the trip, hot drinks and snacks were provided. A truly magical experience, from a company that was very professional and well organised.

We had an amazing time on the Polarmax 3-hour small group snowmobile tour. We were lucky enough to be the only ones booked for the slot, so it ended up being just my partner and I with our guide, Thomas, which made the experience feel really personal and relaxed. The route took us through beautiful snowy forests and across frozen lakes, with plenty of breaks along the way to take it all in and take photos. Thomas was friendly, knowledgeable, and made us feel comfortable and confident throughout the ride. Before heading out, Paula made sure we were properly fitted with warm gear, which was much appreciated and kept us warm the entire time. Snowmobile also had heated grips and passenger seat which were great also. A fantastic experience from start to finish — highly recommend Polarmax for anyone wanting a memorable snowmobile adventure.

This was a fantastic small group tour. Professional. Well organized. Great equipment. The trail was absolutely beautiful. It was one of the best trips I have ever done. Absolutely loved it. Great that it was a small group.

Pick up was perfect with a van with our name displayed ready and waiting for our party which was 7 adults, the actual site where all the safety talks and kit allocation was well organised and we didn’t feel rushed in any way. There were a total of 9 in our group as another couple joined us, we set off around an hour after the meeting as we all had a practice first. The journey out was interesting across the Finnish landscape deep into the forest and across a frozen lake, the course got changed as the weather turned heavy with -32 so our safety was always put first. We had a fantastic experience which ended around 2pm and they dropped us at the local reindeer farm just down the road where we booked an experience for 3pm so timing was perfect. The most amazing experience! Snowmobiling through the forest and onto a frozen lake, it was magical! Our children were towed by the guide in a carriage and they absolutely loved it. Our guide was fantastic, always checking we were ok. Only 2 other snowmobiles in our group so very private too. Such a lovely family run business, very friendly with the cutest dogs too! My kids loved playing catch the ball with them all. I would 100% recommend to anyone considering this excursion, fantastic experience and memories to last a lifetime!

We had the most wonderful morning snowmobiling with Marko, we were so lucky as there were only the two of us and we began by speeding down the river until we stopped for a moment to wait for a group to cross. We couldn't believe it, there was a huge line of 30 or 40 snowmobiles stopping and starting, unable to get any decent speed up - we were so glad not to be on their tour! Marko made sure not to get us stuck behind them, we went through the forest and onto a beautiful lake where we stopped for a coffee and hot chocolate (our choice) in a lovely hotel. We headed back and couldn't believe how quickly the time had passed, Marko made sure we were always just the right temperature, never too hot or too cold and was the perfect guide. We couldn't have wished for a better tour.

We really enjoyed the tour ! We were a group of 3 snowmobile with our guide, after a thorough introduction to get us accustomed with the machine and the tracks we would be riding on, we went on our way. The weather was no ideal but he managed to find nice tracks and adapted to our level so that we could enjoy. I definitely recommend Polarmax if you want to experience snowmobile but don't want to be in a large group

Amazing experience from start to finish! We did the 9am trip with our kids and all loved it. Marko was brilliant, very friendly and always made sure that we are all ok during the trip, making several stops along the route and asking if we are all good. Small group is a bonus. We were provided with overall clothig, boots, woolen socks goggles. Highly recommend to everyone!

What a fantastic trip from start to finish! We were picked up in town and driven a few km outside Rovaniemi where we met our small group for this trip - only three couples plus Marko our guide. It's his business, and he is clearly passionate about what he does. All the kit that we needed was provided, and was new and good quality. Goggles, boots, snow suits, gloves and helmets were tried for size and then it was outside into the beautiful cold clear air. After a brief overview of the snowmobile controls and a quick drive around the car park we were off into the forest. It was a wonderful trip across frozen lakes and wide open spaces and then back into the forest along some narrower tracks and tighter spaces, stopping to change drivers and take photos. Stunning, would highly recommend joining Marko on one of his trips!

This tour was a remarkable experience from start to finish! Marko was an outstanding guide, ensuring everyone felt comfortable while still making it an exhilarating ride. The small group size made it even more enjoyable, allowing us to really push the snowmobiles and make the most of the awesome route. Every moment was pure fun, from speeding through the trails to taking in the remote wilderness. Ending the adventure with a magical BBQ was the perfect touch. We did the 3-hour morning snowmobile safari. My friend and I were lucky enough to have our own private ride with our very kind guide Marko. He took us on some very beautiful forest trails and incredible frozen lakes, at -18°C outside. Highly recommended.

We were a family of 4 (incl. two adult kids) and did the morning 3 hour snowmobile safari. They made sure we were all geared up to brace the -25 deg temperatures and provided a lesson in driving before setting out into the stunning tracks around Sinettä, just 20 mins north of Rovaniemi. Marko was a great guide and made sure everyone was ok throughout. We drove through beautiful forest paths as well as frozen lakes where we were also able to get up some speed. The snowmobiles seemed to be quite new or are very well maintained. They even had seat and hand heaters, which we were very grateful for. Highly recommended tour.

We had the most amazing time during our evening snowmobile ride. Our guides spoke great English and were extremely generous with equipment, very well prepared with suits, gloves, balaclavas, helmets, heated goggles, as well as heated seats and heated hand grips on snowmobile. The ride felt very safe, and the guide had great transparency with the weather conditions and plenty of checks on temperature and speed of snowmobile. Explored very deep into the surrounding area, through wide open spaces with great viewing opportunities for the Aurora and also through tall trees. Had so much fun learning how to ride a snowmobile, great for first timers, easy to follow and a once in a lifetime experience! Definitely recommend.

We loved the snowmobile ride. The gear provided and snow mobiles were like brand new. Extremely well looked after. Our guides were lovely and accommodating. We didn’t see the northern lights but this didn’t detract from our time and is totally out of Polarmax’ hands. Would’ve loved to go faster and have our own snow mobiles but we booked the wrong tour for that. We should’ve gone without a group instead. Someone had an accident on our trip but the guides were fast in getting everyone safe and sorted and no one was hurt. Would definitely recommend for everyone unless you want to go fast. Book a private trip with Polarmax instead.

This experience was the highlight of our time in Rovaniemi. Our guide was exceptional and very experienced - he provided us with a thorough lesson and guidance before setting out, and he had great knowledge of the Sinettä area, including pointing out different animal tracks. We had so much fun and the views and tracks were amazing! It was exactly the experience we were looking for. We went through a beautiful remote area and stopped on a frozen lake for photos and blueberry juice! The trip was the perfect length and we highly recommend booking this safari with Polarmax if you are looking to go snowmobiling in Rovaniemi!
