My husband and I had two small group northern light chasing tours scheduled for our stay in Rovaniemi, this one and one with another tour company. This one was far and away more enjoyable than the one with the other company, so when we decided to book a third tour we booked this one again. Both of our guides, Maelle and Emelie, were dynamite. Maelle built a roaring fire for us to warm up by while we awaited the northern lights and Emelie persisted until she found clear skies for an incredible show. Their enthusiasm was infectious and the photos are stunning. We highly recommend Wild About Lapland.

Itinerary
After being picked up and properly dressed with professional winter clothing and boots (if needed), your Aurora expert guide will drive you away from Rovaniemi, straight out to the wilderness. Based on the weather forecasts, the solar activity and our experience, we will select some locations that are more promising to see the Northern Lights. Your guide will also always check the weather conditions, and you may decide to try another location if you are willing to. As this excursion is a 4-hour tour, you may get the chance to visit up to 3 locations. This tour will offer you the opportunity to head into the Lapland wilderness and explore the arctic nature, hopefully with Northern Lights dancing over your heads! Your guide will share with you their knowledge about the forest, nature and wildlife, and the northern lights phenomenon. They will also teach you how to build a fire in the traditional way, using elements from your surroundings, and will serve you some hot beverages and Finnish snacks to warm you up. They will also be equipped with a professional camera and take many pictures of you and the Northern Lights (a link to download them will be sent to you the next day).

This is a very easy way to go searching for the Northern Lights. The office is easy to find, our guide Juliette was very nice and was a safe driver. She took us to 2 spots and we settled at one with a wide open view on a frozen lakeside where we were fortunate to see the Aurora. She shared some insights on how the Auroras are formed and what to look for when tracking them. We had hot chocolate and stood there for about 90 minutes where she took some pictures of each group with the lights overhead in the sky. We are looking forward to getting our pictures emailed and would definitely recommend this trip. Our van had 8 guests so it was a good size group and the seats were comfortable and our trip was warm. A good way to search safely - thanks for a great evening!
Our Gide Nino did his best to succeed our goal!! We have changed 3 locations and auroras were amazing! We didn’t get any photos for now but I hope we will . Anyway, it’s was a good tour.
We were able to see the lights. But at the end of the of the tour our bus got stuck on the road. It took them 3 hours to get us out
This was our third night chasing the Northern Lights, and choosing a private tour with Atanas from Wild About Lapland made all the difference. Atanas is an outstanding guide — incredibly attentive, calm, and deeply knowledgeable about the region. He clearly understands how aurora hunting really works: constantly adapting to weather conditions, cloud movement, and aurora activity rather than following a fixed route. We always felt we were in the right place at the right time. What truly stood out was the balance between expertise and warmth. The experience felt unhurried and personal, with thoughtful touches like perfectly toasted marshmallows and hot chocolate by the fire, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere throughout the night. This was not just about seeing the Northern Lights, but about enjoying the entire experience with someone who genuinely cares about his guests and loves what he does. It’s important to understand that the Northern Lights depend on nature and weather — something no one can control. But when you are standing in the middle of Lapland’s forests, at temperatures close to –30°C, having the right team makes all the difference. Their experience, judgment, and care turn a challenging environment into a safe, comfortable, and truly memorable adventure. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a private, authentic, and well-guided Northern Lights experience in Lapland.
You had a very experienced guide. You know all the best places to go to get the lights. It's always hit and miss, but in this case we got lucky and did see the lights.
I booked this tour as part of a christmas gift to my husband and parents who traveled from the USA. It was their first time in the Arctic region and they had never seen the norther lights before. Atanas was our guide and he led an incredible tour. We received a lot of academic knowledge on how northern lights are formed and what conditions are required for them to be visible. The truth is, due to the magnetic field of the earth and weather conditions, we (humans) really dont have any control of aurora borealis activity and despite clear skies and elimination of light pollution, northern light activity was extremely low. However, Atanas was persistent and was able to make a sighting of a small one that we caught on camera! In spite of the low activity, the views of the night sky, private locations we visited and the campfire/BBQ we had in a traditional Sami tent made this experience very memorable. Additionally, Atanas ensured we received a safe ride back to our AirBNB following the conclusion of our trip since we were staying outside of the city center. I recommend this tour!
Our incredible guide made the trip. We didnt get his name but he was from Costa Rica .. thank you . Highly recommend this company for your Lapland tours.
Wild about Lapland is a fantastic company and Mark was a great guide. He knew where to drive to best locations, we had a few stops where we experienced the aurora in all its beauty - magical swirls and patterns in pinks and greens - what a magical experience!
We were lucky and had a clear night and the northern lights were active. Stopping in a remote area with no interfering light allowed us the best view. To have a BBQ and hot chocolate as well was a bonus. Viola and Wild About Lapland were fantastic.
Fantastic experience. Our guide Atenas was very nice and knowledgeable. He was very patient with taking pictures. Highly recommend this activity.
This excursion was fantastic, Juha and George did a fantastic job of making sure everyone knew what they were doing, and really wanted to ensure everyone had a good time. Really, really fun and I would highly recommend.
Our Northern Lights chase with Jade and Remy was unforgettable. From the very beginning, they were incredibly warm, welcoming, and full of excitement — and they passed that energy on to all of us. We traveled all the way to Sweden and had the incredible experience of seeing the Aurora four different times. The guides were fantastic — always stopping at the right moments, supporting everyone in the group, taking photos, giving tips, and helping with anything we needed. It truly made the whole adventure even more special.
We were very disappointed with the tour as it was supposed to be a guranteed northern light viewing. there was no or scant visibility for less than 5minutes and hence the tour should not have taken place . We paid for the light tour not to have snacks and sit in the hut which became the primary focus of our trip.
Extremely rude and unforgiving company. Avoid at all cost. 1. The company does not listen. They talked over customer’s voice and not listening. No compassion. Poor attitude. 2. We booked 2 tours with them. We got stuck in a snow by a previous tour company’s car and could not get back to town. They said we need to tell them by 3 pm. They think getting stuck in snow is that predictable? 3. Their aurora tour is with bad policy. Even with the snow and they still insisted to go. They should have offered some compassion and asked about our wel being of getting stuck in snow. Instead all they focused on is their.3 pm report and their money. Extremely rude people. There are companies everywhere just do not use these people! I wish them the best for such unkind, not understanding and greedy attitude..
I joined the tour with my family on a cloudy and rainy night with low hopes of seeing the aurora. Wild about Laplands team (special mention to Thomas, Aina, Marithra) greatly impressed us with their professionalism and effort in chasing the light. We headed up northwest and was fortunate to have the clouds clear up and eventually saw the auroras. Spectacular experience we’d remember for a lifetime. The night also ended beautifully with hot chocolate and roasted sausages in the wild under the dancing aurora.
Amazing experience in Lapland. Small group made it more personal. Nice snacks cooked out in the open.
Our family visited Rovaniemi in late November and joined this tour with high hopes of witnessing the aurora borealis for the first time. Unfortunately, the weather just didn’t cooperate. Thick cloud cover across the entire region meant there was no chance of seeing the lights that night. In hindsight, we felt the tour probably should have been cancelled or rescheduled, as the forecast was quite clear that visibility would be poor. That said, we want to give a big shoutout to our guide, who truly made the most of a disappointing situation. He was fantastic with our two girls! He was as fun and engaging as one could be when driving all over looking for a clearing. At our last stop, he took time to snap some creative and silly photos with them using fun camera techniques. His positive energy helped lift the disappointed mood of the group. Even without the auroras, he did his best to turn the evening into a memorable experience for the kids, which we really appreciated. Overall, while it was hard not to feel let down by the lack of aurora borealis, the personal touches and kid-friendly approach from our guide made the night more enjoyable than it could have been. If you're traveling with children, this tour company clearly knows how to connect with families. Just be sure to double-check the weather forecast before booking!
INCREDIBLE experience that combined seeing the lights, walking on a frozen lake, learning about how to spot the northern lights, forecasting and how to capture them on camera. Our guide Michal was a great photographer and was funny and informative! The group we went touring with were from Brazil and they were so fun to be with! We also got to roast some sausages and drink hot chocolate! So delicious!
A big thanks to our Guide Genis, even if the weather was not helping to see the northern lights, he did his best driving more than he should do, just to give us that emotional moment that all of us were waiting for, and yes, finally we got some northern lights moments, his experience, patience and knowledge made our experience just Fantastic. Thank you March 28th 2025
We had an incredible small group with people from all over the world with an enthusiastic guide. We drove about an hour east, where there was no light pollution. We had an incredible light show. If we had done a private tour, we would have gone home after we saw the lights, but the best came around 1030 pm. I highly recommend this tour.
The most important thing to remember is that there can never be a guarantee that the Northern Lights will 'perform'. So much depends upon weather conditions as well as solar activity. There was a very modest amount of Northern Light activity during our excursion but we still enjoyed the trip out into the snow-covered landscape, the welcome snack over a crackling fire and the assistance and commentary of our very knowledgeable guide.
My partner and I had such an amazing night on this tour. Our tour guide Martina was super friendly and extremely knowledgeable about all things Lapland & northern lights. We had the perfect conditions and felt super lucky to see some really strong auroras. Martina captured some amazing photos too! Would highly recommend this experience to anyone looking.
Do it! Rug up as standing on a frozen lake is super chilly but watching the northern lights dance above you is pure magic! Angelo was our tour guide and took great care of us. Having a hot chocolate by a fire after seeing the lights was very comforting. Highly recommend doing this tour.
Terrible customer experience ever. The only travel agency in Rovaniemi that does not cancel nor reschedule the aurora tours in case of bad weather. It has been a real scam, we spent 129€ each person to have a grilled sausage in a tent (it was pork and not Kobe meat) as the weather conditions did not allow for an aurora sightseeing. As said, the other companies in Rovaniemi cancel/reschedule in case of bad weather conditions or, when they are not sure about the weather, inform the customer during the day about the real probability/possibility (estimated %) to see the aurora and let the customer decide whether to take the risk or get refunded/rescheduled. Definitely a more professional approach!!! We requested Wild About Lapland to cancel the tour the day before as weather conditions and forecasts were very bad (and all the other companies cancelled the tours planned for that day and the day after) but the company refused. Please don't waste your time and money!
I recently participated in a Northern Lights photography tour with my mother on February 19, and unfortunately, the experience was far below expectations, especially considering the $277 cost for two people. The main reason we booked the tour was for the photography aspect, but the pictures taken of us were out of focus, with our faces unclear and lacking detail. Additionally, by 10:30 PM (the tour started at 8:00 PM), the photographer's camera battery had died. We later learned she had brought the wrong spare battery, meant for a different camera model, which meant no additional photos could be taken. While she did her best to revive the battery by placing it near a campfire, it was only a temporary fix, and the camera wouldn’t stay on. The photographer was polite, kind, and attentive throughout the tour. While I don’t blame her for the issues, as she shared with me that she only started this job in November, I do expect the company to properly train and support its staff to ensure they are fully equipped to handle the responsibilities of the job. A well-prepared team is essential for a successful tour, and this was lacking in our case. To make matters worse, on our way back to the car, the photographer dropped the camera tripod—a large and expensive one—and didn’t even realize it. I found it on my way back to the car and handed it to her, otherwise, it would have been lost. Additionally, it’s worth noting that we took a total of four Northern Lights tours in Lapland, and all the other photographers were well-prepared, took clear, focused pictures without issue, and did not need to waste significant time moving the camera back and forth to focus before capturing a photo. This only highlighted the lack of preparation on this particular tour. I have reached out to Kaitlin and the Sales team three times now to address these issues, but I have yet to receive any response. If I do not hear back in next 2 days, I will open a legal case to resolve the matter. I am attaching the out-of-focus pictures and a copy of the first email I sent them as an attachment, as evidence of my concerns. Given the lack of communication and the poor experience overall, I cannot recommend this tour to anyone seeking a professional photography experience.
The guide was very passionate about the Aurora and he took very good pictures of the individuals in the group. Photos were emailed to us. We laid on reindeer skins on the snow watching the Aurora. Perfect!
Guide was great but company should just let the people know that if it’s a cloudy night we most likely won’t see the northern lights. They even mentioned the night is cloudy and chances are low to see the lights before the tour but said there’s a “chance”. We saw absolutely nothing and drove around for 4 hours. Poor guide but honestly the money is pretty much wasted.
We did the trip on the 5th February with Thomas. The aurora forecast was very poor for the evening with the best hope being west - so we headed to the border with Sweden. There was only the faintest of a glow visible through the camera lens but it was still a magical experience and Thomas took some great photos of us against the night sky
A total disaster from start to finish! We booked a Northern Lights tour, and it was nothing but a waste of time and money. Right from the start, we were told that all other tour operators had canceled because there was zero chance of seeing the aurora that night. But this agency didn’t care at all and went ahead anyway, with absolutely no weather analysis or proper planning. Their strategy? Calling someone who said they could see stars… as if that meant anything! So, we drove 45 minutes for nothing, then the guides—who didn’t even seem to agree with each other—shared contradictory information. Meanwhile, the weather had changed, and we ended up wasting 1.5 hours doing a pointless round trip to Rovaniemi with no hope of seeing anything. To make things even worse, when they finally picked a spot, it was surrounded by houses with bright lights and floodlights, making it even harder to see the sky properly! How can a so-called Northern Lights tour not even consider light pollution? To be clear, we are not frustrated about not seeing the aurora—we fully understand that nature doesn’t guarantee a show. What we are frustrated about is the complete amateurism of this agency. The lack of preparation, zero expertise, and total disregard for realistic conditions made this a shameful excuse for a tour. However, we do not blame our guide, who did their best with what little they had to work with. The real issue is with the agency itself, which seems far more interested in taking people’s money than offering a proper experience. We were a group of six and paid €130 per person—so basically, we just spent €780 for an overpriced Uber ride to nowhere! If you actually want a chance to see the aurora, rent a car, use a proper aurora tracking app, and you’ll have 10 times more luck. Avoid this agency at all costs!
We had an incredible experience during the tours in Rovaniemi! Everything was perfectly organized, all informations and the activities exceeded all our expectations. The breathtaking landscapes, the attention to detail, and the kindness of the guides Vince and specially Martina, made our trip truly unforgettable. It was a magical journey, and we really recomend!!!
Great experience, Transport was full 8, tight squeeze in Van but guide tried his best to find Northern Lights. 1 am finish.
My family and I had a great experience. Our guide Amy a great guide. We were very fortunate to see the northern lights but wouldn’t have seen them if not for her expertise on where to go as the forecast was calling for cloud coverage.
Everything was very well organized. The tour guide was great! We actually saw magnificent northern light! Thank you!
Thought the guide would take us further to get more of Aurora, also the photographs not good, many photos blurry and the aurora not captured well. Better using our own phone LOL. Anyway, appreciate our tour guide, maybe she’s tired already as December must be very busy.
It was very cloudy and snowing and couldn’t see the lights . We were taken to one location and spent time around the fire in the tent . Our guide used the time to teach how to make fire and explained about auroras. Rating 3 star as we couldn’t see anything and didn’t wait for longer or try other places. Guide was good and dropped us off at our place.
It was a lovely night outing chasing the northern lights with Michal as our guide. He is a knowledgeable guide explaining how and where we are going to look for the lights. Throughout the expedition he keeps us updated and always on the lookout for the best spots to enjoy the amazing light display and photo shoots for memories. We enjoyed the campfire, birch wood fire grilled sausages with pita bread and mustard, hot coffee and cocoa. The experience is simply amazing as the lights.
This is our favorite experience in Finland. I went on December 23 with my husband and 7 year old. Office was within walking distance (5min or less) from our hotel. Evie our guide was great, very nice and made great hot chocolate and Finnish sausage with flatbread (delicious!). She also took great photos of our family. The northern lights did not disappoint, it gave a great performance that night!
Save your money for a company that offers to reschedule on nights where you have no chance of seeing the lights. Total waste of money unfortunately.
We had a great experience going on searching for Northern Lights. Although the weather was very poor, our guide Vince has put a lot of effort to drive us almost 80Kms outside Rovaniemi to gave us a glance of Northern lights.
Weather was not the best for our tour but we made the most of it and still experienced a traditional Finnish snack around the campfire and had some good chats with the guides
Very bad tour. 1. The photo taking is terrible. 2. The send your photo to everyone in the grp. Your photo and family details has been exposed to others. Is not data protected.
Fun tour and Eneko is a great guide. Recommended for those who want to experience something new and fun
The overall experience was spectacular, everyone was super friendly and just as excited about the tour as us. Our tour guide Tim was great. He was friendly, funny, had a lot of great facts to share, and was just fun to talk to. Definitely recommend this experience to other who are interested. The group size of 9 (guide included) was perfect and I definitely recommend smaller group size over a larger one.
Incredible experience, magical place, starry sky and northern lights. Ugo, the guide, was very kind and detailed in explaining details to us today both about the aurora and the surrounding nativity. The sound of the ice when it vibrates is suggestive!! Oh, and great photos!
Martina and Angelo were our guides. They were really good and took us to 2 different locations. We were lucky to see the Aurora on both these places, as the sky was very clear that night. Both of them explained everything to us in detail. We enjoyed doing the sausages inside the teepee and listening to life in Rovaneimi. Would definitely advise using this tour operator and guides for the Aurora hunting! Thank you Martina and Angelo!
Though we didn't get to see northern lights (18th nov - due to weatherconditions), but our group (beautiful people across Thailand, Australia n S. Korea) and our Guide- Thomas (from Chile) was exceptional who took us through lot of info / history about aurora, lapland n finland...fire place n 📸 were amazing experience in snowy cold weather of Rovaniemi...
The guide and tour size was perfect. The onky draw back is we didn't see northern lights. When we left the area we were in there was another group there would have liked to stay longer to see if we could see lights. Some tours say guaranteed sighting so not sure if I'd book a longer tour next time to ensure sighting. The tour guide was lovely and accommodating and if I had seeing the lights I would give the tour 100%.
Very good organization. The guides were both very keen to find the Northern Lights, despite not being the best night to do so. They were always positive and kept us updated on any changes in the factors.
We booked the Northern Lights Wilderness tour with Professional Camera, and our guide was Adrian. He brought us to three different locations, which were all great views near lakes. At the last location, there was a campfire with some drinks and snacks that definitely helped with the cold! Unfortunately, it was not our night in terms of seeing auroras, but Adrian did everything he could to make the night fun and special. I'd highly recommend this tour. Thank you Adrian!
