We have done the northern lights pic-nic, the private meeting with Santa and also the reindeer farm visit with this agency and guide! Super experience! Couldn’t recommend this tour enough. You can tell the guides have such a passion for what they do. Joona messaged us earlier in the day asking if we could start earlier because of the projected forecast showing how much preparation they put into making sure we had the best experience. The entire experience was indeed magical! Came without expectations, with dismal weather forecast. But Joona proved us wrong! He came well prepared, with at least 100 pinned locations on his map, driving us near the Swedish borders, studying the wind and all. His passion for his work was very inspiring. Honestly couldn’t have asked for a better and enthusiastic guide! Also, it was a small group tour of max 11 people. This was an amazing tour and I very highly recommend to anyone considering. Due to the weather conditions, we had to drive for some time however as soon as we stopped, the sky opened up. To an untrained eye, the Aurora forecasts suggested a poor chance and only a weak outlook. Joona predicted a location and from the first sighting, we saw the Aurora all night! We were very lucky to see many pulsating Auroras. We would not have seen any if we had have stayed near town, and I have no doubt Joona’s skills and experience exposed us to much more than I had expected. Thank you Joona!

I had a tremendous and incredible experience yesterday seeing the Northern Lights. When I posted the photos in my social media , I was asked how long I had to wait for the lights to appear. The answer was: 10 seconds. Thanks to the competence of the guide Joona, who, by continuously accessing technical information and graphics in real time, figured out a spot to take us to where we could contemplate this spectacular dance of lights. And in addition, he showed competence and kindness by taking countless and sensational photos of all the participants in the tour. I highly recommend taking the tour with him.

My family had an amazing experience with our guide Antti. My group consisted of two seniors. He ensured they were warm and had drinks and cookies. He is very knowledgeable about the northern lights. We learned so many tips and tricks on where to find the lights, why they happen, what it looks like on other planets. He pointed out constellations and shared stories of other hunts he’s been on. Our family was blessed to see a burst of the aurora with our naked eyes. We also saw the lights pulsate and Antti did research after our trip to help provide knowledge on what we had seen. Antti also made sure we had a fantastic location for the best chances to see the lights in seclusion from other groups. We highly recommend him as your guide!

Joona was amazing, He took us to a quiet distant place, and using technology and patience he predicted when the Northern lights would show up and how well we will able to see them, we had a spectacular show of the northern lights, Joona is also a talented photographer so we have the greatest photos to remember the experience, with patience and technology this has been an amazing experience.

We had an amazing experience hunting for the Arora. Our guide Antti was so motivated and determined to show us the lights. We drove to multiple spots, he checked the parameters and helped us see Arora on a low activity night.

We had a wonderful time with Joona and were lucky enough to have him on several of our trips. It was great chatting to Joona and learning more about Finland. We visited a reindeer farm and he helped with any translation. He took us on a beautiful snowshoeing hike and shared his knowledge of nature and the local area. Joona showed us how to use the scientific data to hunt for the lights and knew lots of quiet spots so we could get the best view. Petri was a very good guide, we drove to the border of Sweden to find the best possible place. then we stopped at a lake, had a nice fire pit, hot drinks and cookies. The clouds disappeared and we could see the aurora.

Joona was our guide for the Northern Lights Hunt in Rovaniemi, seeing the lights were very important for us, Joona was attentive with the sighting of the lights, and offered to change the date so it was more feasible for sighting. During the tour, he was very knowledgable in the subject, shared with us the way to check for the lights, the relevant graphs and data. He was also very patient with helping us take photos with professional camera, the timelaspe was especially amazing!

We spent 2 days with our guide Andi hunting the Northern lights, private reindeer experience and a sauna and hot tub with a hut dinner experience. All activities were fantastic! Our first day at a reindeer farm was -34C degrees outside -so really cold. If the temp was milder we would have also done ice fishing but we chose to get near a fire. The reindeer farmer was also delightful and we enjoyed some hot beverages and reindeer soup in a typical hut. Sauna and hot tub dinner experience also top notch. Beautifully situated on a frozen lake view property- a very authentic day followed by roasted salmon dinner made over fire in lake hut with chef. Great conversation and we learned a lot about the culture. Onto Nortgern lights hunting which took us further north to Sweden, Andi was able to locate a very nice show of lights tracking his climate and geographical apps . We got great photos and he captured this show on his professional camera for a better keepsake! Highly recommend this company and this experience. Fabulous!!!

We had the pleasure with my family (5 adults and 1 children) of enjoying three unforgettable activities with Johka, each led by a fantastic guide. 1) Reindeer Activity with Niko We visited an authentic reindeer farm run by a real herder, far from the usual commercial spots. The experience included a reindeer sled ride, warming up in a traditional tipi around a campfire with hot drinks and snacks, and a snowmobile ride to visit and feed over 200 reindeer. Even at night, the experience was magical — I can only imagine how stunning it must be during the day! Niko was an incredible guide: kind, friendly, sociable, and always smiling. He went above and beyond to make the visit cozy and enjoyable. 2) Northern Lights Hunt with Petri We couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate New Year’s Eve than this extraordinary northern lights hunt! Petri was an amazing guide who drove us all the way to the Swedish border to find the best, clearest spots for viewing. Thanks to him, we saw truly exceptional northern lights that felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. His kindness, enthusiasm, and positive attitude made the night even more unforgettable. Petri’s passion for his work and his dedication to making sure we had the best possible experience were evident in every moment. It was the perfect way to welcome the new year, and we’ll treasure this memory forever! 3) Husky Sledding with Risto The husky sledding experience was incredible! Although we didn’t interact much with the guide during the activity (because of the activity in itself, we are doing it in our own) he was very attentive, professional and kind! The kennel where the dogs are kept is well-maintained, and you can see how happy and excited the huskies are to pull the sled. It’s clear they genuinely enjoy it and are well taken care of, which made the experience even better. Overall Review of Johka Agency: we highly recommend Johka! Even though we booked last minute, they managed to accommodate our schedule perfectly, and we’re so grateful for that. It’s evident that their guides are passionate about what they do, and it shows in every activity. Niko , our guide, was very helpful and knowledgeable. We got very lucky with the northern lights and he took some great pictures too. Would highly recommend this in Rovaniemi.

Our family of 3 did the Aurora hunting with Johka. My husband can walk a little but uses a wheelchair. He was very grateful to be able to be in the van and experience the hunt. Risto our guide was very nice and also helpful, even when we saw him the next day at the Santa village, he came over to say hi and offer some advice. There were 6 altogether in the comfortable van. Did we see the lights? I’d say we saw glimpses. But the experience of driving on back roads through winter forests and seeing little Finnish houses lit up for Christmas was worth it. We would drive awhile and stop and see what the lights were doing. Getting out under the stars, eating cookies, chatting, walking on the snow, all part of the adventure. We ended up driving to Sweden. Risto offered to keep driving to the best spot we were likely to see the lights but it was already very late and with early morning activities, the group decided to go back to Rovaniemi. Risto since contacted us and sent some great photos of our son under the starry sky. Would definitely recommend.

We spent 2 days with Joona with our 10 year old daughter; from a private reindeer farm with a visit from Santa, to hiking the frozen waterfalls, and then an epic night watching the Northern Lights on the edge of a lake complete with a fire pit and smores. We have been fortunate to travel extensively and Joona was one of the best guides anywhere. His level of excitement for his clients, extensive knowledge to share, and passion is next level. I highly recommend engaging Johka for Northern Light hunting, our guide Joona is beyond amazing, he is such an expert in northern light sighting. We did not manage to see any northern light in our Norway trip and the experience was mediocre but with Joona, we literally drove and chase for northern light. It was a MUST to see northern light in my checklist for my nordic trip and Joona made it happened. They even requested for us to switch the day because our original planned activity date was going to be too cloudy to spot northern light. We went with Joona to northern lights hunting and we couldn't choose better. He explained us everything with lots of detalis and we went to a very special and beautifull place to see the northern lights. While waiting for the lights to appear we had an incredible time just by looking the views and when the lights appeared.... we couldn't believe it, it was fantastic. The next day we had lots of perfect photos of the auroras. 100% recommended!!!

Johka is a great tour company. Our guide did a lot of research before we went out to be sure we were able to see the Auroras at a lovely, secluded spot. We had the pleasure to go on a Northern Light tour with Joona and the Johka team last week. It was absolutely amazing from start to end. Joona and the team were super nice, professional and really knowledgeable. We were lucky and only had to drive for 30 min. Almost instantly we saw the most amazing northern lights which was due to Joona‘s perfect timing and spot selection. Also it‘s impressive and inspiring how passionate Joona and the team is about the northern lights even after so many tours they did. We can absolutely recommend this tour 1000% 👍

I 110% recommend this tour and going with Jhoka is quite a experience, a small and local agency but truly professional, specially with Joona if possible he is really the miracle guy, he drove for hours until we saw the best northern light show, his service was outstanding he explained about northern lights and served warm blue berries juice with some cookies and end the tour with beautiful pictures and outstanding memories. I 100% recommend this experience and going with Jhoka, a small and local agency, specially with Joona if possible, whose service was outstanding. Best experience in Finland. I went with my family to Rovaniemi area for a couple of days to visit Santa, go to the Reindeer farms and Husky driving, and definitely in the hope of seeing Northern Lights. After waiting for a couple of days in the hope of seeing them ourselves, we decided to get a real tour for hunting, just as you would do in national parks to go find animals. You might think it's not as needed, but unless there is a real strong solar storm, which is very unlikely and only happen a couple of times a year, you really need to 1. go far enough from any light pollution (maybe even 2-3 hours drive) 2. Find a clear sky, which is really difficult in these areas in winter, as its usually very cloudy at night. 3. Fully understand weather forecast (because of clouds) and Solar activity forecast, which depends on many factors, and will help the guide know when there are chances of Auroras happening. Joona was an amazing guide, I believe we were the only ones finding Auroras that night, which wasn't the best for spotting lights. He also made sure we understood everything about Auroras, told us his ways and also made sure we saw other amazing things while waiting for the lights, such an amazing night sky with an awesome Milky way.

We booked this tour because it was recommended to us by a friend. The lights were amazing and the photos came out super clear. And yes, you could see yourself as well, not just through a camera. My biggest thanks goes out to Joona, a true "aurora hunter" and passionate expert, who chased down the lights for hours. You can really feel the passion he has to find the best spots, explain how the lights form, how he can track them and how to take great photos with them. After the tour I even felt like a little aurora hunter myself and was able to understand and track down the lights a few days later in Kilpisjärvi. Thank you Joona!

I can not recommend this tour enough! Before, I didn't know that the northern lights need to be "hunted". But in order to properly see them, they do! Our tour guide Joona, one of the few true aurora hunters in town, truly showed his expertise. He went to the greatest lengths to chase down the lights and passionately explained the phenomenon, together with all the stats and tools required to understand the aurora. The photos were amazing. If you want to see the northern lights, book this tour. Other tours might drive you 15 minutes out of Rovaniemi but this tour really makes sure you see the best lights of that night. Even if that means hours of driving!

Fantastic outcome! Joona Forsgren is an excellent aurora guide and photographer!! When the geomagnetic activity combines with clear skies, magic happens - beautiful auroras of green and red tone were seen.
