If you think are going fishing, well this is not for you. I’m pretty sure NO one has ever caught a fish. The fishing gear is plastic Temu crap. The guide is very much apart of the scam. He has no fishing experience. Hands down, the biggest scam on this site. My granddaughter was so disappointed - It’s very expensive in Findland and this experience leaves you feeling not just disappointed or a waste of time - but most important - Good lord mate, what ever happened to ethical behavior - you don’t treat kids like this! The little ones shouldn’t be used like this!!! Please stop this!!!

Itinerary
Your guide will drive you away from Rovaniemi to find the perfect peaceful place. You may have a short 5-10 minute walk through the old arctic forests before you finally reach that immense open area made of ice and snow. Once you have found a promising spot, your guide will show you how to drill your hole in the ice and teach you the basic techniques of how to ice-fish. Then, it is just a matter of time and patience before you can feel the first bites! This is just the perfect moment to appreciate the silent wilderness spreading all around you. Your guide will always be there to assist you, in case you would need help or feel cold. While you will be fishing, they will chop wood and prepare a fire on the shores for you. Some typical Finnish snacks and hot drinks will be served around the fire. This offers a convivial opportunity for your guide to answer all your questions about life in the Arctic and Lapland in general. If you manage to catch a fish (of a decent size), your guide will happily prepare it, cook it straight over the fire and add it to the menu of the day! If the fish are undersized, we will quickly return them to the ice without unnecessarily harming them.

A great experience didn’t catch anything but the whole experience was great well worth it and our guide was great
We spent the morning with our Guide Julieta after a lovely drive we arrived at our own exclusive teepee by the side of a frozen lake. We drilled our own holes in the ice and fished for an hour or so - it could have been longer but the fire, hot chocolate and fired cooked sausages with potato bread and Finnish mustard was too enticing. A highlight was learning to use a flint stick to start a fire with bark !! Loved the tour and Julieta couldn't do enough for us. She gave us heaps of time and dropped as at the Arktikum museum when back in town.
We loved this tour! While we did not catch any fish (which is common), we had a wonderful experience being on a frozen lake, manually drilling holes in the ice, and trying to fish with a tiny rod! The included campfire, sausage and hot drink were a bonus! Our guide Matu made the tour very educational and entertaining by sharing his experiences and information about the region.
The Ice Fishing trip was an experience - there were just the 4 of us in our group which was perfect. It was hard work drilling through the 1 meter thick ice but reassuring to know how thick it was! Then it's a case of sitting there and hoping. The other 2 people in our group did catch something but 'they got away'. It was great fun and I'm glad we did it.
I have never fished before but that didn’t matter because they explain exactly what to do. The process of drilling into the ice was so fun. We didn’t catch anything but that didn’t affect my experience at all. It was so fun to sit in the middle of a frozen lake. when you are finished there is a teepee with a fire and sausages waiting for you. Sitting in the teepee around the fire was equally as fun as fishing.
Just experienced the ultimate winter wonderland adventure! Our family of four went ice fishing on frozen Jyrhämäjärvi lake, and had the entire lake to ourselves! Huge thanks to our amazing guide Eneko, who taught us how to ice fish, start a fire with flint and steel, and even BBQ sausages in a cozy teepee tent! This trip was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Our guide was really knowledgeable and very friendly. She explained the afternoon activities very well and we had a nice time. I think perhaps the location and shallow part of the lake we fished wasn’t ideal.
We've not seen any fish but I was not expecting to catch something. We appreciated the surrounding, the small size of our group, all the tips and curiosities out guide (cannot remember the name, the Croatian guy) shared with us, this was the plus of this tour!
Barbs was an amazing tour guide, she made sure the children in the group had a great time! Lovely memories were made and it was an unforgettable experience.
This is fun little trip, but just a taster or introduction to Ice fishing so don't expect too much! its a 25 minute drive there and back, with a short trek from the vehicle to get out into the frozen lake. After drilling your hole in the ice and getting set up, there's approx. 1 hour to fish. Then you can warm up in the tepee and cook sausages over a log fire. Our Guide Emily was very friendly and helpful. Overall and fun morning and good experience.
Brilliant. What a great day . Fishing was fun and a whole new experience - didn’t catch anything but didn’t make a difference. Great tour guides and really tasty food. Thank you guys for making our trip so memorable
Ice fishing with Guillermo was very cool and funny! It’s a good expérience. Thank’s so much ! I recommend ! 🤩
I was with my 13 yrs old son on the ice fishing tour. It was not the ultimate fishing experience but more of a frozen lake drilling, sight seing and camping. Our guide was Guilla, very nice guy, informative, helpful and great host. We had a good time with a lot of nice pics and videos. Make sure to have solid winter gear, especially boots.
A very nice afternoon experience. Our guide was Barbara, she was friendly and easy going and she had a lot of patience with our kids. We didn't catch any fish, but it was fun to be on the lake and we had a great barbeque with sausages and mashmellows.
Ice Fishing was so much fun - although we didn't catch any fish... It was an amazing experience learning how to drill through the ice and sitting on a frozen lake in the arctic landscape, followed by a very nice barbecue.
We signed up for the ice fishing tour and thankfully had a free upgrade to snowshoeing + ice fishing! It was -20 degrees that day and we can’t imagine being out in the frozen lake fishing (and not moving) for hours! Snowshoeing took about 45mins and thereafter we went to a nearby lake. Our guide, Gabo, taught us how to drill a hole in the frozen ice and do fishing. He also demonstrated how to start a fire without a matchstick and cooked snacks / prepared hot drinks for us! Highly recommend and a must try Arctic adventure : )
We shared this experience with Theo and Melina, currently in internship. Quite an experience on the frozen lake, and in the middle of nature. Ice fishing is a moment for oneself, because after the explanations we are left alone in front of our hole and our fishing rod. A good time to think! Then snack and hot drink around the fire, and maybe Theo will teach you how to make a fire (clearly not easy to do!). Thank you for this activity, and this sharing of knowledge.
Very nice experience! The team is warm and ready to answer all your questions. We went fishing at the very beginning of the season. And I really enjoyed discovering this activity in a small group with my friends. No fish in sight, but that's the game! We also learned the theory of how to light a fire... Actually lighting a fire is going to take a little more practice! We enjoyed the typical Finnish snack around the fire. Moreover, all the equipment is on loan and the team can also provide you with warm clothes. Furthermore, it was snowing that day and we were lucky enough to see a herd of reindeer crossing the frozen lake. It was amazing! I recommend it 100%. Thanks again to the team, I really enjoyed the experience!
Did Ice fishing 3 March 2020, the activities were interesting especially the drilling of hole and sadly we did not catch any fish.
Kari was our guide and she was fantastic. We were the only people on her tour for the day and she made us feel so welcome and taught us so much about Lapland. They provided us with everything we needed for our tour! Thermal overalls, boots, fishing poles. We were even treated to a little snack lunch in a teepee. This company did a great job start to finish. Kiitos!
My girlfriend and I were privileged to have Serena as our tour guide for a 3 hour ice fishing tour. It was one of our best experiences in Lapland. After a 15 minute drive from their office in Rovaniemi city, we arrived at a picturesque lake and were greeted by a breath-taking view of the sunrise. Serena is extremely knowledgeable about the local culture and skillful in winter survival techniques, and was gracious enough to let us experience starting a fire on ice (even though this was not part of the package). She patiently explained to us the technique behind fire starting on ice, and trusted us enough to get the fire started. Serena is also an excellent photographer, helping us capture those perfect moments with our iPhone. The entire experience certainly did not feel overly commercialized, as if the company was simply out to reap profits. The tour felt very personalised with Serena sharing her eventful life story and took great interest in finding out more about our lives and home country. We may have started off the day as mere customers of Serena, but we certainly ended off as new-found friends. The only regret we have is not taking a picture together with Serena. I highly recommend this company and will certainly return to Wild About Lapland on my next visit to Rovaniemi. Thank you Serena, for being such a remarkable guide, photographer and friend, for ending our 5-day Lapland holiday on a high.
I did the ice fishing tour today. Was an awesome guide, really fun day. Also communication to organise and book was easy. By far the best tour I did this this week because of the small groups only. Highly recommend.
Was undecided at first but was very glad I did this activity. Not really into fishing (in general) but i did enjoy the trip and experiencing one of the cultures of Finnish people - ice fishing. We went to one of lakes and started the activity with making a hole on the frozen lake. We had a difficulty drilling the hole because it was thicker than usual but it’s when these things happen that a trip becomes more memorable, right? Hahaha... I did not expect that I would be enjoy ice fishing - listening to the serene winter silence while gazing through what looks like an endless horizon of winter landscape. I think the trip became more memorable because of the interesting people you experience it with (a Filipina, Ricardo and his wife). Sharing and learning personal experiences of their travels and their own cultures are the things that really interests me. Finally, kudos and big shout out to these two guides - Adja and Chris. The humor of these two can be way down below the frozen lake (which make it so funny) and can be as high above the northern lights! And I think any tour or activity can only be as amazing as with the people you are with! Thanks and will definitely book again to these guys if I have a chance to go back to Rovaniemi! Continue to share the best experience one can have when visiting Rovaniemi!
Theo was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and was keen to teach us how to fish as well as survival skills such as making a fire and Finnish culture. We had a great time snowshoeing and attempting to fish on the frozen lake (although we did not catch anything we still had a great time). Theo brought some sausages to cook so we didn't go hungry. Would definitely recommend booking tours with Wild about Lapland as this is a local, small family business and the tours won't disappoint!
Only recommended for people into fishing and, then, it is better in as small group as possible. If you got a very cold day, it will make it even harder. I felt scammed, even when we did exactly what I asked and paid for. A bad decision from my side. Again. If you are REALLY into fishing, it may be worth. Was not not for me.
Anyone looking for a more personal guided tour and not on a bus with 20 people then I couldn't recommend Theo and his guides enough. My wife and I went ice fishing with our two children (5 & 7) Theo accommodated us to suit and picked a lake with a nice warm cabin incase we get cold and an area to toast marshmallows, finish pancakes and bread on the fire. Unfortunately no fish this day but the experience and memories my family made will be remembered forever. Theo's knowledge of the area and care for his customers really made this a must do and is one of the cheaper ones around. Thank you Theo
Theo was extremely friendly and it was a very nice experience overall. Even though we didn’t catch any fish, the view was so amazing and cooking sausages over the fire at the end made up for it! The fishing hours could be a little longer though, but nonetheless it was a wholesome experience. :-)
We did the Ice Fishing tour and found our tour guide to be both friendly and knowledgeable. We loved the wilderness got to learn loads about the nature. Our tour guide took us to the perfect quiet spot on the middle of a frozen lake. It was so peaceful. I HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone wanting to experience the real lapland and the best thing about them over other tour companies in Rovaniemi is that the groups are small and this makes a huge difference to your experience.

Fabulous tour! Our guide was Theo (wild about Lapland) Theo was very knowledgable about Finland and was able to share interesting facts about the Finnish culture. We unfortunately didn’t catch any fish but the place was so pretty and peaceful it didn’t matter :) Great tour

Excellent experience. We enjoyed a beautiful evening enlivened at all times by Santi, our guide. Despite not fishing, we enjoyed an authentic Lap activity and a perfect snack around a bonfire that Santi lit for us. Highly recommended!
We had a great time with Wild About Lapland. Private excursion because few requests at this time and therefore great experience. The guide is simply amazing, joyful and puts you at ease right away. You are going to relax for one of the most typical Finnish activities and you will love it. The fact that the excursions are in small groups makes the experience magical in a dream setting. Go ahead and you won't regret it.
