Aurora Borealis Snowshoeing Adventure By Night From Rovaniemi

It was a lovely adventure, charming winter wonderland. No lights activity so this a bit disappointing . The guide Camille was great, helpful and knowledgeable

We booked the aurora hunting + snowshoeing activity with Nordic Odyssey, and had a wonderful experience. They outfitted us with overalls and boots, and when they heard that we didn't have proper gloves, they tried their best to find suitable ones even though they weren't required to provide them. Aurora, our aptly named guide, was patient even as we fumbled with the snowshoes. She also pointed out the different foliage in the forest at night, as well as tracks made in the snow by various animals -- all very interesting to city folks like us! She was knowledgeable about all things related to the northern lights, sharing with us how northern lights are formed and in what conditions we can see them. When she saw that we were freezing while waiting around to see the lights from the swamp, she brought us for another quick walk, timing our return to the swamp perfectly with the northern lights appearing in the sky. Our activity ended an hour behind time because Aurora really wanted us to see the northern lights -- we could really see her passion for the northern lights. After the activity, Nordic Odyssey even shared photos of the northern lights from that night. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! On top of the impeccable service, the warmth that the Nordic Odyssey folks showed us really made us feel welcome, and made the night memorable. If we are ever visiting Rovaniemi again, we will definitely engage Nordic Odyssey for other activities.

After a punctual pick-up, we received our equipment on site to start the snowshoe hike. On the way, our guide explained the details of the tour and said that the evening wasn't bad for seeing the lights. As we covered the first few metres of the hike, it turned out that our guide was quite wrong, as the evening was perfect for seeing the lights. We were therefore rewarded with a beautiful spectacle of the Northern Lights, which made the whole tour a wonderful experience. To our surprise, our guide also had a camera and tripod with her, which she used frequently during the tour. The pictures were provided to us at no extra charge and are definitely better than the pictures we took ourselves.

I had never tried snow shoeing before, and it was a bit hard work going up the hills, but it was incredible to be in the middle of nature. We saw a bird of prey, and fox and bunny paw prints. It started to snow as we hiked, which stopped any chance of us seeing northern lights, but made the experience more magical.

It was a very challenging night in the middle of the icy mountains around Rovaniemi. A different experience and not to be missed!

We got to see the Aurora-borealis in December! It was one of the unexpected days: very cold (-20 Celsius) and very clear skies and voila: Aurora-Borealis!!!! Our guide Herve' was great and very knowledgeable. And way more prepared than the rest of us: he shared his tripod with the group and helped change our mobile settings to better capture the spectacle. The snow shoeing was hard work and Herve' was a really fast walker but he was also very patient and would promptly assist when Snowshoes got stuck in hidden bushes under the snow. Drinking tea/coffee/chocolate with ginger cookies sitting in the snow sharing stories was also really nice. Loved it all!

TOP!! We did 2 activities with Nordic Odissey: -First of all, snowshoeing to see the Northern Lights. We had a great time, in a small group, after not even an hour drive we were able to start the hike. The guide was great, we were allowed a few explanations, among others, about the stars, the Northern Lights, life in Finland, animal footprints... everything was very interesting without being boring. Our tour was nice and we had the chance to see the aurora but even without it, we loved our outing, we took plenty of eyes. With a little hot glögi without alcohol to top it off! -In the second activity, we hiked in the Kourouoma Canyon to see the icefalls, again we were in small committee. With a great guide who put us at ease and especially safe, thanks to a quality equipment because some passages of the hike are sensitive (I specify it because when we saw the spikes of other companies present, it was scary!!). Once again we were allowed several anecdotes about what was happening before in this forest, about the trees....We ended up with a little picnic with nice little Finnish culinary discoveries... We were lucky to have chosen Nordi Odissey because when we heard reviews about other agencies, ripping off tourists, it was scary!! The little plus are the perfectly polyglot guides (in our case, French / English) Our only regret and not having done other activities you!

2nd activity with Nordic Odyssey for a 100% satisfaction. Orga, accompaniment, professionalism of the managers at the top. Evening on the tracks of animals, explanations of the dawns and the sky that surround us and small fire in the middle of this walk on the frozen marshes to make the most of the dawns. A big thank you! I recommend 😃

Thanks to Quentin for this Aurora Borealis outing and all its explanations concerning them and the geology of Finland. We had a great time with Quentin hunting the Northern Lights by going from one spot to another with all these beautiful landscapes.

My guide for this snowshoe hike was Camille , what a beautiful person , interesting, kind , super professional, she knew how to make us fire in 10 seconds!;) We had the pleasure of having a dense night in the Northern Lights, a magical moment ✨ I highly recommend!

Everything was perfect from start to finish. A nice welcome by our guide at the agency, a great feeling with the guide and the group. We had the chance to see beautiful aurora and have great photos! And the snowshoe hike, followed by the stop in a teepee were really beautiful! Nothing wrong. We learned a lot of stuff it was really interesting.

They even made me want to become a guide and drop everything to live in Finnish Lapland! I recommend with your eyes closed.

We highly recommend this agency. We did several activities with Nordic Odyssey and had several guides, all excellent with the desire to make us have a great time! This agency focuses on quality and this is reflected in the Service provided. This is not the case with other agencies on Rovaniemi. super activity, the agency is on top and the outing in small group supervised by a friendly and attentive guide. This release does not require a particular physical condition, nor an experience of snowshoes. This nocturnal walk takes you off the classic trails to observe the fauna (animal tracks) and flora. We had the chance to do this outing on a clear day and enjoy beautiful scenery under the moon.

Super adventure, it’s really super soothing to sink into the forest in the dark. And our guide Jeremy is great and always has one story or another to tell. I recommend ☺️🫶🏼

Nordic Odyssey is an excellent tour agency with great guides for those who hesitate to snowshoe it is managed nicely and we learn a lot about nature. Moreover the landscapes are beautiful I highly recommend!!

Very nice activity. With the skis and therefore the effort, you do not feel the cold. The scenery is amazing with this tree/snow/night mix. In addition, we are lucky enough to see beautiful Northern Lights. The team is also very nice! Mathieu

Evening snowshoeing top , although the weather was not optimal for the Northern Lights , it is a really nice activity , the guides are really cool and explains the phenomenon as well as the fauna and flora in Finland 🙂 I had never snowshoeed and it seemed simple. A small gourmet break is also offered on the route I highly recommend this activity and this agency.

Unforgettable moments. Adrien, our guide, was excellent. He explained the phenomenon of the Northern Lights and how to “capture” them with the camera. He also taught us to light fires with the steel and we roasted some sausages and drank hot chocolate. Highly recommended experience, thanks again!
