Mo was a terrific guide. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend him as your guide.

Before we head to Kinderdijk, we’ll take a moment to introduce you to Rotterdam, the vibrant, innovative city where the tour begins. Depending on where you’re starting (Cruise Port, Central Station, or a city center hotel) and the route we take, we’ll share stories and fun facts about the city’s modern architecture, maritime history, post-war rebuilding, and hidden gems as we pass by key sights. It’s a perfect way to get your bearings and learn what makes Rotterdam such a unique place, all in a relaxed and engaging way.
Kinderdijk, a World Heritage site with 19 windmills dating from the 18th century. Besides the windmills you will see how a typical Dutch landscapes look.
If you’re starting from Rotterdam Central Station, we’ll head together by public transport to the Erasmus Bridge for a quick photo stop, and then make our way to Kinderdijk. Rotterdam Central Station, one of the busiest places in Rotterdam. Renowned for its beautifull architecture.
Note: When starting the tour at the Cruise Port Rotterdam, please be aware that this is a stop before continuing the journey to Kinderdijk. The Erasmus Bridge is next to the Willemsbrug the second bridge over the Nieuwe Maas in the center of Rotterdam and the Port of Rotterdam and is named after the Dutch priest and humanist Erasmus. Our tour guide Mo was wonderful. Explained everything very well. He was kind, thoughtful, accommodating, friendly and polite. He was engaging as we had a delightful conversation for 4 hours. He gets a rating of 5 stars!
SO glad we chose this tour of the windmills of Kinderdijk!! It was so much more than we expected! My husband and I had our guide, Mo all to ourselves and he was so personal and knowledgeable! We learned every detail about how and why the windmills work and are a necessary part of Norway. The windmills and the surrounding countryside is beautiful and a Must-See!!
Would highly recommend this tour. Our tour guide Mo was congenial and knowledgeable . We were very satisfied we chose this tour to the windmills.
Liv provided lots of history and insights during the tour. We had enough time to walk around the old port are see some of the old barges. Spent several hours at the windmills which was the perfect amount of time. All at our pace and without the stress of a large group.
Mo is an awesome local guide. Being born and raised in the area, he is a fount of knowledge! His communication to meet up is also perfect. He answers all questions and happily gives recommendations for other activities as well. I learned so much about these unique windmills. Mo happily took our pictures as well.
Thanks to guide we were much more nimble than the much larger cruise groups which stayed on sequence. This was huge when windmills were fired up. We pivoted and were there to see a highlight thanks to engaged guide. go with Mo!
The smaller your group is the better it is interacting with your tour guide. A small group makes the tour much more personal.
Jamal was extremely friendly, thoughtful, and knowledgeable! He accommodated our specific needs and answered all of our questions. He provided historical, cultural, and present-day context. He was insightful and entertaining.
Great cruise day trip for families! No was waiting for us at the entrance to the cruise terminal and we quickly found him after getting off the ship. He managed all the details getting to Kinderdijk, and kept things flexible and fun for the whole group. A great excursion and we appreciated not being in the cruise cattle call. Highly recommend!
It was an interesting tour going to the UNESCO windmills in Kinderdijk. Mo was really great and did a good job engaging with history while also being happy to talk about life in the Netherlands. My only complaint was it felt a little rushed at times, but that wasn't Mo's fault. That was the timing of how long our cruise was in port. Mo did a great job of getting us around and letting us see everything that we wanted to see. After our tour, he pointed out some unique dutch dishes for us to try and walked us around to grab some stroopwaffles. What a guy. I'd love to come back to Rotterdam another time and see the town by bike as well. The dutch really love their crazy architecture in Rotterdam and that was just what we saw from the boat and the short walk.
Excellent guide! Fantastic time! Monique was superb!
Monique was an amazing guide!!! Great tour.
Kinderdijk is an amazing place to visit and Mo was a great, knowledgeable guide to bring it to life for us. It was also relaxing to have him manage the trip there and back - we didnt have to think about anything but the site. Learning a bit about Rotterdam from him was a bonus!
Mo, our guide, was incredible. He was on time and communicated with me before our arrival. He was so knowledgeable and witty and interacted well with all 3 of us. We learned so much and had a much more detailed and immersive experience as he showed us around the windmills. He grew up in Rotterdam so he had a lot of local knowledge as well and gave us great recommendations for a local lunch. I 100% recommend this company and would tell anyone to ask specifically for Mo!! Great day. I’m
Our guide told us interesting information. Very accommodating. She was very polite and friendly. Recommended.
What a great experience. Jess was our guide, she had so many great suggestions for how to make the most of our tour. Provided excellent overview of the area as a whole as well as the windmills themselves.
great experience overall. was expensive but i do recommend this for anyone looking to let someone else handle all of the logistics and wayfinding so you don't have to worry! the site itself was breathtaking and it was great to have someone there to take a couple of photos for us. the meetup was kind of last minute changed then changed back again which was frustrating but ultimately worked out as the guide came to us as originally planned. there was a lot of walking, which we found enjoyable. the guide had interesting stories to share which was fun. items we shared ahead of time were not communicated with the guide which was fine. also, coffee or stops to any cafes were not a part of our experience for some reason so i am glad we grabbed coffee beforehand.
Our tour guide Mo is the greatest tour guide!! He gave us a lot of valuable information with great patience with my kids at our own timing. The windmills at Kinderdijk are a breathtaking UNESCO world heritage place, really peaceful and lovely. We’ve had lots of private tour guides and Mo is one of my top 5! Thank you TOURGUYS for your expertise and commitment!!
Very cool history and technical information provided by tour guide about the windmills. Learned a lot!
Jamal was a wealth of information Very informative Knows the city and the Unesco site very well. Thanks
Had another tour with Mo who was kind enough to give us his contact info. We contacted him and he was so wonderful in getting us set up for this tour. He makes the tour feel like a friend who is showing you around who has an abundance of knowledge. Would highly recommend to anyone I know who is coming to visit
Really enjoyed the boat ride to and from Kinderdyke. Smaranda was knowledgeable and engaging. The windmills were very cool inside and out.
Smaranda was an excellent guide , tour was very nice but we were disappointed in the fact that we booked a private tour and another couple from a cruise ship was joined with our “private tour” due to tour guide shortage! Also since they had to be back on ship by 2:30 we felt pressured to get back on time. It wasn’t a leisurely tour we expected paying for “private”! We hope our next tour with Viator next week which is also private in Scotland June 9 will not disappoint. We booked 5 viator tours on this 16 day adventure and have always trusted your company. We would have liked more that a 5 minute prior notice if tour is changed so we can decide to cancel or not.
Eleftheria is a wonderful guide and storyteller. Wonderful way to get a glimpse of the city and the history of the area. Very informative and enjoyable tour. Highly recommend
Incredibly beautiful setting. Best way to start the learning process of how the Dutch manage to live 2 meters below sea level from the beginning with the windmills to the present. Our guide Eleftheria, a future Voice of Holland star ;), was delightful and terrific answering all of our questions as she navigated the tour start to finish. Would highly recommend.
Nice cruise on the river. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the city and windmills. She knew a lot of history about the city and windmills. We had a wonderful time and would recommend to everyone!
Wonderful tour. Speaks flawless English. A wealth of knowledge. The tour was worth every penny. Have fun.
Selma, our guide, was amazing! She was knowledgeable, kind, thoughtful, and did a wonderful job of explaining everything about the windmills. We could not have asked for a better guide. She brought snacks and water for each of us. Thank you, Selma, for a memorable experience.
Our tour guide-Izzy was superb. He showed us many attractions in center city-Rotterdam. He has extensive knowledge of the city’s history. He deftly navigated us through the crowded city while the Somer Carnival was in full swing. Riding the waterbus to Kinderdjik was pleasant. Visiting the iconic windmills created a long lasting memory. All in all, it was an exciting experience. Izzy needs to be specially recognized! 😊👍
Marvelous day with our guide El! The windmills are beautiful, enjoyed the boat ride getting there. All good!
El took us on a wonderful journey to the windmills. She was great at explaining all the history and fun to be with. We would definitely book with her again!
Excellent service from The Tour Guys. Adapted to meet our needs. A truly personalised experience. I would definitely book with them again. Big thanks to Selma and Issy.
It was a walking tour which I didn't realize. It was a great tour but all walking at least 6 miles total. Not strenuous but must be able to walk at good pace. Great snacks, water ,lunch and boat ride. Saad was wonderful!
It was an amazing tour, Izzy our tour guide was very knowledgeable, fun and polite. Since it was a private tour there was some wiggleroom for personal request like coffee stops. The tour is comprehensive it shows you all the very best of the area. It helps you feel safe and you learn about how to move around rotterdamn for the days after! Bring comfortable walking shoes! Would absolutely suggest this tour! Thank you Izzy for an amazing time and lasting memories.
We're visiting from Cabe Verde and this was absolutely the highlight of my trip with friends. We got to meet Izzy while he was giving other people a tour and we're so thrilled by the experience, that we just decided to book it ourselves. And we DO NOT REGRET THAT. The windmills were absolutely amazing and the overall tour in Rotterdam has much to its history and culture; we will never forget this. For the ones traveling and never been to Rotterdam; better not skip on TourGuys.
My husband and I chose this tour as a special treat for our 25th anniversary trip to the area and splurged on a full day tour of Rotterdam and Kinderdijk. Prior to the trip I had email correspondence regarding some questions and I was reassured by the answers I received. On April 2nd the company deducted the large fee for the trip. They also sent two email confirmations - one on April 2nd, the other on April 9th. We arrived today for our tour and waited for 15 minutes and the guide was a no show. We sent messages and no response, so called and someone answered right away... and informed us that they had NO record of us being on the tour despite the email correspondence and despite the money already being deducted from our account. I asked what could be done, and was told they could see if another guide could do a half day tour, but they had no one. They said it was a computer glitch... I understand that accidents happen, but to take several hundred dollars from someone and not know that they are taking a tour is pretty poor business. Additionally, there was very little effort put forth to try to make it good for us... no offer of a future tour, of a discount on a future tour, nothing. We had cancelled other plans and had also paid for train tickets to Rotterdam, only to come up empty. So... if you dare to risk doing a tour with them, MAKE SURE that you contact them as soon as you book and confirm personally that they have you on the schedule. Don't rely on their taking payment or sending you emails as confirmation that they know you registered for the tour. We debated a long time between two different tour companies, and boy are we sorry we chose this one. Hopefully they will actually refund the money as they said they would. As of tonight, nothing is pending. Beware!
Jareau gave us a first class, private tour of Rotterdam. He took care of all the details from the transportation and admission fees, food and drink. He was very knowledgeable. We got a great perspective of the city as we explored with subway, boats and lots of walking. He let us determine the pace of the tour and we learned so much having a personal guide. We definitely recommend this company and Jareau
Eleftheria was AMAZING! We had a great day with her exploring Rotterdam and Kinderdijk. Eleftheria was knowledgable and personable. Highly recommend.
Our guide, Julia, was fabulous. She was a pleasure to spend the day with. The city tour was comprehensive and Julia is very knowledgeable. I had a list of places that we wanted to visit and she covered them all plus a few that I was not aware of. Sights, snacks and lunch were included. Then the Water Bus to Kinderdijk - a relaxing 40 minute ride after much walking in the city. Loved seeing the Windmills and Julia guided us through the area. A Great day with the Perfect guide. Thanks, Julia
The description of the tour didn't note that it is mostly a walking tour. As older adults, this was a challenge for us. To her credit, the guide accommodated us by converting to an auto tour for much of the day. She even used her own car to drive us. Her knowledge of the area is superb.
We did the Rotterdam + Kinderdijk: All Inclusive, Guided Private Tour this September. Our tour guide Saad was fantastic. He made the tour unique and was a wealth of knowledge about the history of Rotterdam. We enjoyed all of the sites, both big and small and came away with a great appreciation of this resilient City. We highly recommend the Tour Guys and Saad in particular!
This tour will not disappoint!!! It is an extraordinary experience filled with so many fun activities. We walked, traveled by train and boat to see this amazing city. We highly recommend the guide Julia! Talk about feeling well taken care of - she showed up prepared for anything with water, umbrellas, etc. She has a “magic” bag she carries that just happens to have anything you could possibly need in it. She expertly navigated all the sites to see and just made this one of the best tours we have ever taken. DO THIS TOUR!! And request Julia - you won’t be disappointed!
Jareau sent us a text the day before confirming the pickup time and the specific location (entrance to hotel across street from cruise terminal - excellent because limited people at location made it easier to find each other than at the cruise terminal door). Jareau's time management skills were amazing. We walk a bit slower than many people do due to a work injury. He took us on a short walk to show us the waterfront, but I think a major part of that was to judge our walking speed. He had bought transit passes for us ahead of time. We then walked to the water taxi to Kinderdijk. (We had identified the windmills as the top site to see first) Jareau got us to the water taxi about 5 minutes early. He suggested what side of the taxi had the better views. Then he sat across the taxi to give us (and him) some alone time. He bought the tickets to the windmills and walked us to the entry way. He arranged for a docent to give us a personal tour of the museum area. He did not enter the actual windmill site, but the docents were good. Walked us back to the water taxi - we were the last 3 people to board -- very effective use of our time. Jareau continued the walking tour of Rotterdam, using the tram / subway passes to move us longer distances. He bought us sandwiches and water for lunch that we ate sitting on the wall outside St. Lawrence's church. When we were finished lunch, he walked us inside to hear a little concert being given on the pipe organ. Again - excellent time management -- the timing of the lunch meshed with the pipe organ concert start. Some more walking, We were pretty tired so he bought us a snack to perk us up. Then on to the cube houses. We went into the one made into an art museum of sorts. There we got a small print - the one item that we told him we would be interested in buying. We didn't get to see The Night Watch painting in person, but that was okay. We were ready to return to the ship after having walked about 20 thousand steps. Unbelievably excellent time management and very friendly.
Had a great time, made our time in Rotterdam much more memorable. Saad was also great, knowledgable and made the trip as smooth as possible.
It was so much fun with Monique as our tour guide. She was quite animated and very knowledgeable. She gave us so much information on the history of the places we visited and also shared so many interesting facts about them. Monique was very personable towards us that it felt like we were visiting with a really good friend. She took many photos of us on our tour, which we really appreciate. She also took us to try local food fares like herring (which we would have never tried on our own), Gouda cheese (we like the young Gouda the best), and puffertjes (mini pancakes, real good size for portion control). All in all, we were delighted by our tour. And if we were to rate Monique from 1 to 10, we would give her an eleven. ^u^
Julia was a fantastic guide. She took us to many of the highlights of Rotterdam and told us the history behind them. Julia explained how the city was almost totally destroyed in WWII but a few building survived. It was a day of trying many of the different foods and sweets that the Netherlands has to offer. Julia also told of how life in the Netherlands is on a daily basis. Julia has a wonderful personality and made it a fun day to tour Rotterdam and the Kinderdijk.
We had an amazing day with our private guide Julia. She was so energetic and fun and was very in tune to what we wanted to see and do, and planned the day according to our interests. We took several breaks to relax and visit, which was necessary with all the walking we did. She also made sure that we tried all the local foods. Just such a perfect day. Highly recommend this tour and highly recommend Julia as your guide.
Bad experience, we only do the first 1/2 of the tour without lunch, when we arrive to the water taxi it was already gone and the next one will be 1 hour late, so the guide cancel the tour. We only receive 40% of money refunded and no photos taken by the guide
Our private tour gave us a good introduction to the city. Our guide Kagan was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The tour involved a good deal of walking. For the most part there were sufficient stops to keep from getting tired, but we would have preferred taking a tram or metro rather than the last long walk from the cube house to the water bus. The boat ride to the Kinderdjik site was relaxing. The site itself was wonderful, seeing all of the old windmills and learning about their construction and functionality. The included lunch at the Markthal was nice.
