Van Der Valk Hotel Rotterdam - Blijdorp

Showers renovated, good sized rooms, stained carpet. Located walking distance from Rotterdam Zoo, and bus stop, but not to restaurants or the city. Service - Helpful with storing luggage, but not beyond that. Restaurant was horrible . . .spouse had on-line meeting when we arrived at dinner time & I was trying to find food. Asked @ front desk & they said I needed to ask restaurant. I waited forever for host to even acknowledge me & then when I asked if they had take-away was told "the Chef will not do that" Like the Front Desk doesn't know the Restaurant #IN# the hotel doesn't do take-away?!?! Then the the most ironic "service" came when I bought over-priced Ramen noodles from the self-serve convenience stand in the lobby. . .that had no disposable utensils to go with the Ramen noodles. Asked Front Desk, they sent me to the restaurant - again. Restaurant Host deems to return & when asked for utensils looks flabbergasted and actually says: "You're asking me for flatware" He gave me a fork (for Ramen noodles) only after my saying the Front Desk said he would. Sad service for Van der Valk prices . . .

An OK hotel I visit often on business travel. Restaurant for dinner is surprisingly good and the staff there are also polite and mostly attentive. Breakfast is mediocre with something that pretends to be scrambled eggs but most probably came from powder in a bag. Some of the rooms are in bad need of renovation. The air in the rooms is quite dusty as I guess the carpets haven't been properly cleaned ever. During my last stay the toilet in my bathroom was in a disgusting state - covered with dried up urine stains and excrement leftovers. The water cups were obviously dirty with leftover toothpaste. I raised this with the reception the next morning but as I came back again late in the evening nothing had changed. I checked out the next morning and wanted to mention this again but the receptionist didn't ask me how my stay was 🤷‍♂️ I guess they can check the photos here.

Nice hotel. Unfortunately for me the pace in which the staff run around the bar even when not busy shows a lack of experience and ruins a relaxed environment. The young bar manager seems to have his staff on edge. Not a pleasant bar to sit at even with low traffic.

Nice hotel, 2 minutes walk to Blijdorp Zoo main reason for booking here. Shame that our room is dusty. The shower tap is difficult to adjust into right temp. Water flows are strong. Room is sound proof w/c I loved. Friendly Receptionist.
