A special shout out to Rakesh who was so incredibly helpful when we needed to change our booking due to a member of our party being unwell. When we arrived for our spa treatment Rakesh was so warm and helpful and he made sure everything went smoothly with all of our treatments. We had a grazing platter as part of the package and it was exceptional. The pools, this was our third visit and the beauty of the lakefront setting never disappoints. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be back! Thanks again Rakesh and team.

Itinerary
Admission is for the day of booking, and is not limited to a particular time of the day. Relax and unwind at Rotorua’s Polynesian Spa – a world-leading, natural mineral bathing and luxury spa retreat. Geothermal waters nourish the skin and relieve tired muscles, aches and pains, while decadent therapies rejuvenate through ancient and modern techniques. Combined with the healthy café, Polynesian Spa restores the body inside and out. The world-leading natural hot mineral bathing and spa treatment facility was built on the site of historic bath houses for which the city first became world famous in the 1800s. The Spa continues to evolve and focus on health and wellness, introducing passive and active bathing experiences for increased immunity and greater energy levels. At Polynesian Spa, elements of early buildings and baths have been carefully retained and the site is registered by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. This ticket provides access to the premium bathing area 'The Deluxe Lake Spa' which includes a range of mineral rock pools at various temperatures. Utilizing both alkaline and acidic mineral springs, the Deluxe Lake Spa is ultimate in geothermal bathing experiences. The therapeutic waters at Polynesian Spa come from two different natural springs: The Priest Spring is named after Father Mahoney, a Catholic Priest who was ‘cured’ of his crippling arthritis from bathing in the waters in 1878. The slightly acidic water from the Priest Spring relieves tired muscles, aches and pains. The Rachel Spring is a source of alkaline water, which features the antiseptic action of sodium silicate nourishing the skin. It was historically said that those who bathe in the waters of the Rachel Spring are blessed with ageless beauty The combination of these two types of mineral waters is only found at Polynesian Spa.

I booked my visit to Polynesian Spa as part of my Mitai Māori Village package, and I can honestly say it was one of the highlights of my time in Rotorua. I would give this experience a well-deserved 10 out of 10 and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting New Zealand. From the moment I experienced the spa, I was impressed by how remarkably clean and well-maintained everything was. The thermal baths were amazing, providing the perfect opportunity to relax, unwind and take a break from the busy schedule of sightseeing and exploring. The cleanliness of the facilities made the whole experience even more enjoyable, allowing me to relax and fully appreciate the surroundings. One of the best decisions I made was to pay extra for the stress relief massage during my visit. I booked a full 60-minute massage, and it was absolutely worth every penny. The treatment was incredibly relaxing and did exactly what I had hoped it would do. I had been carrying tension in my body, and by the time the massage was finished, I felt as though that tension had completely melted away. I felt deeply relaxed, refreshed and able to switch off from the stresses of everyday life. The full hour gave me the time to properly unwind without feeling rushed. It was the perfect addition to the thermal spa experience, and I would strongly recommend considering a massage if you visit. Although it costs extra, I personally found it well worth paying for, as it made my visit feel even more special. The thermal baths themselves were another highlight. There is something wonderful about being able to soak in the warm mineral waters and simply enjoy the moment without having to think about where you need to be next or what you need to do. After spending time travelling around New Zealand and fitting in different activities and excursions, it was lovely to have some time dedicated entirely to relaxation and looking after myself. What I particularly appreciated was that the spa offered an opportunity to slow down and enjoy a different side of Rotorua. New Zealand has so much to see and do, and it can be tempting to fill every day with tours, attractions and sightseeing. However, my visit to Polynesian Spa reminded me that taking time out to relax can be just as rewarding as exploring the country’s many attractions. The combination of the beautifully clean thermal baths and the wonderful 60-minute stress relief massage made this a genuinely memorable experience for me. I left feeling completely relaxed and refreshed, which is exactly what I had hoped for when I booked my visit. My recommendation If you are visiting Rotorua during your trip to New Zealand, I would highly recommend making time in your itinerary to visit Polynesian Spa. Do not make the mistake of filling every day with sightseeing and overlooking the opportunity to relax and recharge. If your budget allows, I would also recommend treating yourself to one of the massages. My 60-minute stress relief massage was absolutely worth the additional cost, and it made an already wonderful visit even better. Overall, Polynesian Spa exceeded my expectations. The cleanliness, amazing thermal baths and deeply relaxing massage made it an experience I would happily repeat. My rating: 10 out of 10. A fantastic experience from start to finish, and somewhere I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone visiting Rotorua. It was the perfect opportunity to relax, release tension and enjoy some well-deserved me-time during my New Zealand adventure.
What a great experience go early in morning when they open, less crowds.Beautiful geo thermal pools to relax in at different temps. The pools are outside they also have heated chairs and a punge pool.
Had a wonderful relaxing experience inthe Deluxe pools with such beautiful views of the lake.
This was a beautiful calm and relaxing experience. Absolutely loved the acidic pool and cold plunge additions to the gorgeous geothermal tools which are number of different temperatures to keep everyone happy. We went into the family pool which was pretty empty when we went in and had a very fun slide. However, it gets really busy really quickly. A fabulous addition to the end of your holiday.
The variety of temperatures for the hot pools in the open area was fantastic, and having the option between acidic and alkaline was GREAT! The 1-hour Manukau Honey massage was just what I needed after a month of travel! After the massage, we headed to a private hot pool for a relaxing close to our spa visit. Highly recommend for those needing rejuvenation to finish their holiday journey.
Great and very relaxing. Easy access to a variety of pools with no children. Great to see people relaxing and taking in the view of the lakes and total relaxed ambience. Highly recommend.
So informative. Kody was our guide, he was so full of energy and enthusiasm. It was wonderful!! Beautiful dancers.
Brought my family of 8 (including overseas guests) to the Polynesian Spa on 21 August for the Deluxe Lake Spa experience. Even though I’ve been before, this visit was extra special. The lakeside pools were peaceful, clean, and incredibly relaxing. We want to give a special shoutout to Eugenia for her wonderful hospitality—she was so helpful and made sure our large group had everything we needed. It was an unforgettable highlight for our international visitors. Highly recommended!
Absolutely amazing! Place was very clean and relaxing. Very kind staff and the view from the spas was amazing!
A lovely therapeutic and relaxing few hours after a busy morning on the luge in Rotorua. It was quite busy but there was still ample space in the pools. There were children it may be more relaxing without. Some background music would have been nice. Also many people were constantly using mobile phones and it was quite chatty at times which took away from the full experience of the spa unfortunately. We did enjoy it however but leave your phone behind and live in the moment and enjoy this natural beauty.
I recently had the opportunity to visit Polynesian Spa, and it exceeded my expectations. During my visit, I experienced the Deluxe Lake Spa, a couples massage, and a private bathing experience, and each part of the experience was exceptional. The Deluxe Lake Spa offered stunning views over Lake Rotorua and a relaxing atmosphere that made it easy to unwind. The facilities were well maintained, clean, and thoughtfully designed to create a peaceful retreat. Our couples massage was fantastic. The therapists were professional, attentive, and tailored the treatment to our preferences, leaving us feeling completely refreshed and relaxed. The private bathing experience was the perfect way to complete our visit. Having a secluded space to soak and enjoy the mineral waters in privacy made the experience feel truly special and luxurious. What really stood out, though, was the hospitality. The staff was welcoming throughout our visit, and the gentleman who looked after us was genuinely one of the sweetest hospitality professionals I've encountered. He was warm, friendly, attentive, and made us feel incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived. His kindness and enthusiasm elevated an already amazing experience. Polynesian Spa offers much more than just spa treatments, it's a complete wellness experience. I would happily recommend it to anyone visiting Rotorua and will absolutely be sending clients there in the future.
MY DETAILS: Mihir Thakker Date of access: 24may2026 Time of card swipe at reception: 9.17 am Nz time Amt: $339.80 for 3 adult 1 kid for delux pools Very pathetic reception staff.. we visited yesterday with my family and upon card tap.. it was #figure it out mode.. no instructions nothing . We booked delux pools and they just told to follow signs.. "go right".. that's it. Me and my family were lost at family pools..I asked lifeguard where are delux pools she was shocked reception staff did not guide you ? We were roaming here and there for 15 mins and we somehow figured ourself out the lockers and change room seperate for delux pools area. After experience we were observing the same staff were personally showing each areas to other European and American customers.. Same story places different.. hard reality Racist staff do exist at polynesian thermal pools specially reception.
Great setting, good value for money and clean changing rooms. Massive compliment to the young girl at the cafe. She engaged well, was very informative and the presentation of my purchase was beautiful. I will be back.
The value for money for the experience I had made me feel special
We chose to do the private pool experience as we felt it would be more relaxing after a long day. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The spa itself was probably not quite what we had imagined and could have done with a bit of a clean before we went in. The view over the lake was pretty but we only had a limited view as there are fences topped with security wire on either side of the space restricting a more expansive view of the lake. 45 minutes was definitely enough time in the spa and we all felt ready to head to the cafe afterwards. We had ordered the grazing platter for 2 which was well loaded and the large drinks selection was excellent. Overall we had a great time and would definitely return to try out the public pools next time.
Such a lovely spa day. Very relaxing and had some great views.
This was the second time at this outside spa and the first time at night! The sunset was incredible and it was so peaceful lying in the pools until... a man started talking on his mobile IN THE POOLS loudly in another language. I decided to move along to another pool. I did find a quieter spot but I couldn't believe guests were speaking so loudly on their phones with no consideration for other guests. PS There are signs up regarding speaking on phones but no one from the spa enforcing it!
Great service and experience. Love the fact that the spa has private pools where you can relax before the treatment. My massage therapist was very professional and such a sweet person, she is from Bali but unfortunately I forgot her name. Never had a massage with running water, it was just relaxing and unique. This place is a must when visiting Rotorua
Just what I needed after a day of activities. Dud the deluxe lake package and was worth the extra cost to have towels , extra lake view and the acidic priestess pool which was my favourite. Left there feeling incredibly relaxed
Very relaxing, clean and nice atmosphere. The staff is very nice.
We visited the Deluxe Spa. Very relaxing afternoon
Excellent experience! Had mud massage and spent hours at the pools. Very relaxing.
We had a 45 minute session in a lake view pool. It was bliss! Just the right amount of time (although it was a challenge to get showered and dressed in 10 minutes). Towels and shower stuff included in the price. Lovely cafe for before/after and free parking nearby (up to 3 hours).
We had the deluxe package with massage. A big day of pampering ourselves. Started off with a great intro and overall itinerary recommendation from Rakesh. Approximately 5-6 hours, We enjoyed all the pools, deluxe, private pool with viewing, massage, drinks and lovely grazing plate. A very nice plate. Highly recommend.
We had the best time at this spa. The setting is beautiful and each of the pools had their own magic. For the first time in a long time I didn’t ache!! The massages given by Ni Luh from Bali and Evie from Fiji were exceptional. They were very professional and looked after us very well. We were definitely relaxed by the end of it. The changing rooms and facilities were clean and comfortable with towels and robes provided. A super visit.
We had private lake front spa for 4 of us. Nice, but noisy from party people next to us. Felt commercialized. Large charters brought huge crowds.
We were surprised at the size of the pools versus the pavilion pools. They are very shallow and a bit murky- due to people wearing sunscreen- not due to the minerals. Although the environment is peaceful I regret upgrading. We would have preferred the pavilion area. Also, note the food is very expensive and not as high quality as the numerous other eateries close by. The slushie my son bought was not as good as one from a convenience store. In short, expensive and not worth it.
We booked a private spa with lake views. We have done this a few times before. As before we were not disappointed. Would highly recommend the experience
Beautiful surroundings, very friendly staff, delicious cake and smoothie. Clean , peaceful and felt very pampered
I would give this spa another star Except that the place allowed kids in the deluxe experience, although they had told us when we were buying entrance that it was adult only. Also, they brought in a huge group of cruise ship guests who behaved badly.
The pools themselves were unbelievable. We went shortly after opening on a Saturday and it wasnt crowded Then a tour bus arrived. The recliners and pools got a bit crowded but still good However one of the tour guests starting yelling at another single woman who carefully moved his towel off a recliner to use ( many signs stating no reserving of recliners). This very large and angry man started loudly shouting at her. I came to her defense, stating he could not scream at her and the seats weren't reserved. He kept yelling at her then turned to me, yelled at me to "shut up and I was a bitch". ( in front of at least 25 other people) When I went to both the tour guides ( Smith Tour- please boycott) and the spa manager for assistance, I was told there 'were 2 sides to this and they would talk to him'. I wanted him removed as he proved he was aggressive and threatening. They did not ask him to get dressed or leave. And as fate would have it we both came out of the locker rooms at the same time and I had to sprint away from him to feel safe I would never return. They obviously care more about the tour groups money than the safety and comfort of women PS Polynesia spa, if you ever read this I want a refund
Wonderful place to spend a day. The pools were relaxing and the views amazing. Clean, modern, and calm atmosphere. We will definitely return.
We chose the Private spa which I would highly recommend. You bathe quietly alone looking out over Lake Rotorua. Recommend you read all the notices as I wore silver jewellery which was tarnish a bronze colour afterwards. All good cleaned off with Silver cleaner!!
It's very comfortable and suitable.
Enjoyed our visit. Rented the private lake view pool. Most relaxing experience
Spent a luxurious, quiet afternoon in the thermal pools, enjoying a massage, mud wrap, and facial. The staff team was exceptionally professional and thoughtful. Beyond the amazing wellness services, the cafe's smoothies and fresh juice offerings were super healthy and delicious! Great way to begin my visit to Rotorua!
Great experience ! Sat in the perfectly temperate water while enjoying the view of the lake . A nice outdoor shower also included to use after. I wish I would have booked other pools as well .
This hot pool/spa is great! We had a very relaxing time. The pools were clean and temperatures ranged from cold to very hot so we could find what we were after. The little cafe had great, fresh offerings and the shop offered tourist items as well as necessities for the hot pools. Booking was a little confusing over which area we would like, but happy with the decision made, which was the Deluxe Lake Spa that was family friendly, but had the pools we were after and the children that were there were not intrusive. The heated recliners were an unexpected luxury. The locker rooms had lockers and private showers that were not fancy, but just what is needed.
We booked in towards the end of a holiday in NZ where we had done a heap of walking. It was just what we needed. Easy to find, helpful staff and beautiful pools of hot water to soak in. All we needed was bathers, everything else was supplied. 5 different hot pools, a cold plunge pool, heated couches.....just a really great relax
Relaxing time at the Polynesian Spa! We pre booked the “Couples Double Dipper Lake View” which included 45 mins in a private soaking pool, complimentary drinks and access to all the various public pools after. We arrived for our check in time. Scanned in & followed the gentleman over. Our lake view dipper was behind a locked door. Upon entering you have a private small soaking pool looking out to the lake with two privacy walls on each side as well as a mini area to leave your items/a rinse off shower. The water was nice & hot. The space you are given is 100% private with the door closed & the side walls. It was a nice space to ourselves. After our session ended (there’s a light on the wall that goes red when your time is up so no one has to interfere) we stopped in the cafe for a fruit smoothie before trying out the public pools. The colors of the mineral waters is very pretty & relaxing to the body. It was a rainy day but the pools were still very hot & relaxing. I am glad we got to enjoy the private spa beforehand as the pools got very busy with crowds. Everyone in the pools were polite & didn’t overcrowd your space but having the private pool to yourself beforehand was a pleasure! Beautiful gift shop & cafe as well! We stocked up on mud products & volcanic body products before leaving! Lots of multi pack bundles for savings for tourists 🌋
We attended the spa on a very wet day and didn’t think we would be there that long but ended up spending most of the day. We had a private lake view pool which was lovely and used the deluxe spa pools. They were all very clean, well signed and the waters ranged from warm to hot including alkali for skin and acid for aches and muscles. There’s also a cold plunge pool and shower to help detox. The changing rooms were spacious with towels provided. It was a great experience and ne I would recommend.
Had a great relax in the alkaline pool first, then a front & back massage package with hot mud scrub, followed by an essenial oils massage. Came out feeling brand new. Beautiful ginger tea in a relaxing lounge afterwards, View over the sulphur lake. showers avaliable with essential minerals body wash & shampoo. Just luxury. I returned 2 days later for several hrs soak in the priests pool acidic water, & alkaline pools. There is a Cafe which caters extra for your massage expierences @ extra cost. The Cafe its self i found quite expensive. Generally, if / when i come back to visit NZ, I will definitely make a visit to Rotorua & the Polynesian spa pools Geothermal hot springs.
Me and My Partner found the experience to be absolutely Amazing we had a private spa followed by unlimited time in the the deluxe spa area.service was exceptional and the we got the double dipper package and was so cheap an worth it.
We booked two spa treatments and got the deluxe lake spa portion included. We arrived early and enjoyed the pools before our treatments, which was really nice. The facilities are great, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I received the Manuka Honey Massage which was so wonderful! My husband did the Aix Hydrotherapy Massage and he really enjoyed that as well. If we go to Rotorua again, we'll definitely be going back to the Polynesian Spa to try other treatments.
Excellent opportunity to relax and enjoy the fabulous pools! Love the set up and cleanliness of the area. Great customer service too. Just a shame that a large group arrived who didn’t read or appreciate the fact that the area is a QUIET ZONE and that the use of mobile phones was not allowed!
We loved the private sky view pool area, the pool was hot and the area relaxing. It was nice feeling that we could spend as long as we wanted in the main pool areas after our booking. It is very peaceful as there are no children in most pools.
Its lost its sparkle sadly for the price of entry wasn't what it used to be. Needs to be loved and refurbished and looked after more especially in the changing area.
There were some warm pools and a cold pool overlooking a stinky lake. The spa itself felt like a YMCA. It entertained us for an hour, but I wouldn’t do it again.
Always fantastic. Brilliant staff. Peaceful. Thank you. See you again soon.
