Fabulous to see the cultural performance and the exquisite natural environment. The hot pools and mud pools were an absolute fascination and incredible experience.
Very well done. Professional, interesting, informative and most importantly fun! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed watching these very talented young people. I highly recommend this show.
An excellent show informing us of some of the traditions of the Māori people.
Great place, we thought the guide John was the best guide we have had in New Zealand the village in well worth visiting
Good experience with the Maori show & self guided tour around the village & hot pools. What they don’t advise though is that some areas you can’t go unless with a guide so self guided you can’t get to see the geysers.
Very good to learn a bit about the culture and what it means. Enjoyed the traditional dances and songs. Also able to see some hot springs even just walking up to the cultural centre.
Beautiful voices and an awesome display of culture. The power of the mighty haka was impressive - even with just a small group. Loved it!
The cultural performance had some light hearted moments but I would have prefered to have had a powhiri to welcome us on to the grounds before the performance started.
This is a must do experience, we enjoyed the performance, really good to see, we enjoyed the walk around the village, especially walking around the Geothermal pools. It is only 10 mins drive from Rotorua centre, do not miss the chance to se this place, all of the staff were very friendly and informative
This was our second time visiting. It has gone up in price significantly, with the cultural performance being charged extra. The village is ok but it's an overpriced experience. Wouldn't do it again. We pre-ordered a hangi meal for the next day. We were told to pick it up at 12:30 pm. Were mucked around for a good 20 minutes, with the takeway option clearly being an issue. The meal was a joke! Paid 50 NZD for 2 small pieces of potato, a small chicken drumstick, a piece of beef the size of a chicken nugget and 2 forkfulls of cabbage. The 'dessert ' was a little square of steam pudding. I'm horrified at how tourists are being ripped off! We live in NZ and are aware of prices. You can get a good restaurant meal for less! How on earth are these prices justified? A complete scam.
Great guides, experience, tour, food, vibe and great performance - just disappointed the gift shop was closed by the time our tour was over as i had seen a few things I wanted to purchase. Overall great just slightly disappointing finish
Absolutely incredible! The harmonies were so beautiful and it was cool getting to see the traditional dances and some the games of the Māori culture. The performers had great energy and it’s definitely a must see experience if you’re in the area; especially to see the infamous Haka!
Loved this culture experience, the dancing and information was excellent. 30 minutes was a good amount of time. Thank you I really enjoyed your show
Strolling through the village, one can observe traditional wood carvings and experience the warmth of the community. While the village offers a unique experience, some visitors have noted areas where maintenance could be improved. Overall, it's a memorable stop for those interested in Māori heritage and geothermal activity.
We loved this cultural performance! It was so full of joy and natural too. We particularly loved when some of the performers children got involved - very cute!
Very enjoyable experience with the Māori women & men singing and dressed in traditional Māori clothing.
I brought 26 students (4 staff) down from Auckland to experience Whakarewarewa and experience this really special place filled with history and memories. It was truly a fantastic experience for our students (Year 8s) and so much learning was had by all. We did the guided tour, had the hangi lunch and then finished with the performance. It was all faultless, including the booking/reservation side of it that happened behind the scenes - so accommodating, helpful and organised. Not to forget the marvellous tour guides. I would most definitely recommend visiting Whakarewarewa, it's well worth it.
The show is average. Not too special. We feel boarded little bit. Maybe we have a little knowledge to understand.
This is a fantastic snapshot of Māori culture in a performance that was highly entertaining and insightful. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an engaging experience!
We had a wonderful visit to the Living Māori Village in Rotorua. The cultural show was captivating and offered a meaningful insight into Māori dances and customs, beautifully showcasing their rich heritage. Our guide, Philip, was informative and engaging, which made the experience even more memorable. Walking around the village, where people still live, gave us a genuine and authentic glimpse into daily Māori life—far beyond a typical tourist attraction. It felt like a true cultural immersion, and we highly recommend it to anyone wanting to understand Māori traditions and community life firsthand.
I came around 15 years ago and was stoked to see all the work the crew has put into restoration since then, as well as the (re?)introduction of mandatory cultural guides for the village areas - having navigated these areas previously unguided, this is a positive addition that adds the cultural insight and personal touch that I feel was sorely missed when floundering about on my own. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, in particular with regards to flexibility when one member of our family was experiencing some anxiety. I was so impressed and grateful for their care.
This was our second visit to the village. The children requested a return visit and it was well worth it. We loved the cultural performance then we participated in a tour of the village and Geysers. We had a brilliant young female tour guide. Highlights always the cooked corn on the cob and the erupting Geysers. More authentic than the over marketed Te Puia next door.
AMAZING PERFORMANCE AND VILLAGE. IT IS A MUST VISIT 😁 STAFF WERE FANTASTIC, ACCESSIBLE CAFE AND GIFT SHOP. CLOSE TO MAIN TOWN!
Fabulous experience! We did the All day pass, worth every cent, friendly staff, awesome guide and the cultural performance was beautiful, actually a moving moment for us.
An amazing experience, such a beautiful culture with welcoming people. Would do this again for sure !
This was a short glimpse into the performance side of the maori culture! With a conch shell, a karanga (woman whaling), a waiata, and also rakau sticks (a game with sticks), the haka, poi etc!!
We had the most amazing and interesting time visiting Whakarewarewa. We saw the cultural performance by the incredible villagers and had a guided tour by one of them afterwards. The culture and history of this place is incredibly deep and fascinating and the people there are so keen to show us their way of life. They have such a deep connection to the natural world and an amazing sense of family and community, from sharing their naturally geothermal kitchens with each other and bathing in the clear waters of the hot water springs. They even made food for us to eat from the thermal kitchens themselves! There are volcanic Geysers that can be seen from the village too and they were all shooting high up into the sky, very much a sight to behold. The performance itself is great being interactive, I even got to go up in stage myself and participate in the traditional welcome to the village. They sang us songs and performed a Haka for us. The magic in these performances can only truly be felt by being there. A must do visit for anyone who wants to learn more about the Māori culture and about how their way of life has been shaped by the natural world. Thank you for sharing your village with us!
A good experience for anyone wishing to have some basic understanding of Māori traditional culture. The team gave a great performance- it would be good to get to know them more.
Amazing performance with lots of energy and bustling with great enthusiasm. The team of performers were great and their energy was unmatched. Very captivating! However, the man at the reception who was in charge of tickets came across to be so rude and arrogant in his answers. Not at all a welcoming gesture! His words and responses were cold. We asked if we could get a map of the village tour- but instead of explaining that they would not provide a map as we didn’t book the tour, his actions and answers were so rude- he just simply shouted and said NO
A must go to for anyone visiting NZ, I always bring anyone visiting me here. A true cultural heritage experience and the villagers are so friendly and proud to share their knowledge.
Passionate representation of Maori culture. The performers we welcoming to the audience and offered clear interpretations of their presentations.
A very nice presentation, from the people who really live in this Maori village. You will also find nice shops.
Great show, complete with haka. Pleasant music. The performance was enthusiastic and well organized. Glad we could sit covered.
I was a bit afraid of being disappointed by a "catch tourists" activity, but in the end I had a great time. Discover Maori culture through their dances. The group is really "inhabited" which makes the moment intense. A great experience for a reasonable price.
The description does not match the experience! We didn’t have access to Māori village with this reservation but only to the cultural dance! Beware the description indicating an “exploration of the village after the performance” is false! We were very disappointed. Bad attitude of some dancers, including one who arrived with a delay of 10min! On a show of 30 it is not professional. Scam
Wer ein Maori- Dorf sehen möchte, ist hier richtig. Sonst besser gleich zum Te Puia Park fahren für Show, Schnitzereien, Webtechnik und Stonecarving.
We booked the Cultural Performance. At the friendly reception we were informed that we are welcome to take part in the village tour after the performance. The performance was first presented and explained very nicely. She was very impressive and emotional. The tour of the village was very interesting and exciting. The Waimaria guide showed us their village impressively and with passion. We were also allowed to taste corn cooked in a hot natural pool. Highly recommended!
