Itinerary
The Grand Canal is the main waterway in Venice (about 4 km long). The Grand Canal has an inverted "S" shape and divides the city into two parts, each of which groups together three districts. The width of the Grand Canal varies from 30 to 70 meters and its maximum depth is 5 meters. The Grand Canal is crossed by four bridges, the oldest is that of Rialto (1591). The other three bridges over the Grand Canal are those of the Scalzi, the Accademia and finally the Constitution Bridge, the latter designed by the architect Calatrava (inauguration 11 September 2008). Follow the course of this famous canal to discover the secrets of a unique city
The Rialto Bridge is the oldest of the four bridges of the Grand Canal. It is famous for both its architecture and its history. For years it was the fulcrum of Venice's economy. The name "Rialto" comes from "Rivus altus", which in Italian means "deep canal", indicating that it is a flood-free area. The structure of the bridge is similar to the previous ones, collapsed twice and burned on various occasions, and consists of two inclined ramps joined by a portico in the centre. Crossing the Rialto Bridge you will reach the Rialto Market, a colorful place where fruit and vegetables are sold. The Market has ancient origins and has been held in this place since 1097.
San Marco is one of the most fascinating squares in the world, so much so that Napoleon Bonaparte called it "the most beautiful hall in Europe". It was built in the 9th century and paved in 1177, 100 years after its construction. Piazza San Marco is the lowest area of Venice and, therefore, it is the first area to flood with high water. In these cases, the municipality of Venice installs walkways to allow the regular transit of pedestrians. If you are lucky (or unlucky, depending on your tastes), you will be able to see the square full of water. The most important buildings in the square are the Basilica of San Marco, the Palazzo Ducale, the Correr Museum, the Campanile and the Clock Tower.
Originally this building was supposed to be an extension of the Doge's Palace. The first construction of the Basilica of San Marco began in the year 828 and ended in the year 832 to house the body of the Apostle Saint Mark brought from Alexandria as protector of the city. The construction of the current basilica began in 1063 in Byzantine style to represent the power of the prosperous Venetian Republic. This basilica was built respecting the model of two basilicas of the ancient imperial city of Byzantium with a central plan in the shape of a Greek cross, five large domes and a particular blend of ancient and oriental art. The result is a splendid and successful combination of styles.
The Ducal Palace was probably built between the 10th and 11th centuries on the basis of a central fortified nucleus. The first renovation was carried out in the 12th century with Doge Sebastiano Ziani who transformed the fortress into an elegant palace. Between 1339 and 1342 during the reign of Bartolomeo Gradenigo, the palace began to take on its current form. Doge Francesco Foscari extended the palace in 1424 until it reached the Basilica of San Marco. In the early 17th century, the architect Antonio Contin added the New Prisons across the canal, connecting them to the palace with the Bridge of Sighs, where the inmates passed on their way to the new prisons. In 1797, after the fall of the Republic of Venice, the palace was adapted to house the administrative offices.
The Campanile of San Marco is one of the symbols of the city of Venice. Venetians affectionately call him "El parón de casa" (The master of the house). At 98.6 meters high, it is one of the tallest bell towers in Italy. It stands majestically in Piazza San Marco in front of the basilica. Simple in shape, it consists of a fluted brick barrel, having a side of 12 meters and approximately 50 meters high, above which is the arched belfry. The bell tower is in turn surmounted by a die, on whose faces two walking lions and the female figures of Venice (Justice) are alternately depicted. Everything is completed by the pyramid-shaped spire, on top of which, mounted on a rotating platform to function as a weather vane, is the golden statue of the archangel Gabriel. The base of the building is embellished, on the side facing the basilica, by Sansovino's Loggia.
The Bridge of Sighs is located in the historic center of Venice, right behind Piazza San Marco, it is the only bridge in the city that is completely closed. Nowadays it is also known as the "lovers' bridge": legend says that to declare eternal love, you must kiss under the bridge during a gondola ride. The true history of the Bridge, however, is very different: the fact that it connected the Palazzo Ducale and the Palazzo delle Prigioni is no coincidence! In fact, it served as a security passage to move prisoners from the Court to the Prisons and vice versa.

Monica was amazing. Very sweet and very informative. I would love to have again the time Im in Italy. My mom had the best day EVER!! Thank you for everything
Our guide was super friendly, experienced and knowledgeable. We had the most perfect day. Then after drop off I received a text over WhatsApp that he was very upset that he was not tipped by us and that the amount he was paid by his company was insignificant. (80 euros) I was very surprised as we paid over 1300.00 US dollars for the tour and bought him lunch. Up until the moment of that text it was an amazing day.
Wow! This trip was perfect for us. Our tour picked us up at the hotel and we went business class on a high speed train to Venice. We saw everything on the tour and I had asked to see a few specific things not on the itinerary. They looked up the places and helped us make choices and adjustments that made us even more delighted. Juliann was the best—so patient and kind. We never felt rushed even though we packed in so much. This was my Venice dream and I loved it.
Juliana was a great tour guide. Even though it rained the day we were in Venice, she showed us St. Mark’s Cathedral, and we went on a gondola ride, And we saw Rialto Bridge and walked across it. We saw the Bridge of Sighs. The train ride was smooth and it was fun seeing the Italian countryside.
The guide (Monica) provided just the kind of personal service we were looking for! Our first goal was to get a general feel for Venice and the tour delivered. Our second goal was to see St Mark’s Basilica and that didn’t happen. There was an issue with the ticket process that embarrassed both us and our guide and prevented us from entering. The company provided quick tix to the bell tower as a consolation. If you book with this tour be sure and confirm your St Mark’s tickets are valid before you travel.
This tour was excellent. We took the train to Venice. We had time to explore, eat, go to famous cathedrals, sites like bridge of sighs and take a gondola ride. It was like I had always imagined but better. Our tour guide went above and beyond. We did not wait for any activity we even had time for a street side artist to paint a portrait. It was an amazing city and an amazing excursion.
This was another amazing experience to see most of the Italian countryside while enjoying the train ride to Venice. Our tour guide Monika was the best. Full of history and things we would not have known to look for. The gondola ride was breathtaking.
Our full day in Venice with Monica was fantastic! She knew the city and took us to all the highlights! We thoroughly enjoyed our day with her!
Long train ride, bit worth the time to do in one day. Plan to walk long a lot. Enjoyed venice. Would do again.
The private tour to Venice was exceptional. Our guide Serevino was amazing and very patient with my elderly mother who has trouble with stairs. He offered her assistance on more than one occasion. Our driver, forgot his name, was also very kind and polite. Overall great experience and absolutely stunning to travel to Venice and explore at the pace of my elderly mother who’s dream was to visit Venice.
The gondola ride! Our tour guide took us through the most historical part of Venice.she has a lot of knowledge about Venice. We had a great time in Venice.
Our private guide Rashi, was wonderful. We were picked up at our hotel, she walked us right through the train terminal and was with us the whole day in Venice. Rashi asked if there was anything in particular that we wanted to do and see. She took us all around Venice, was absolutely willing to take our pictures, arranged a gondola ride for us, and made awesome recommendations for lunch and a bar and snack place to rest a short while. It was a wonderful day in Venice.
Venice was beautiful. Our guide was excellent and the train ride was absolutely wonderful and comfortable. Gondola ride is a must
We have the worse experience last year when we visited Rome. We paid top dollars for our trip , as 1st class train ride and that never happened. Our tour guy was 2 hours late .. I strongly recommend not to book this trip via viator and just plan your own.
Rasi was amazing. She knew so Much about Italy to have only lived there for 3 years. Our driver picked us up on time and took us to the train station. The train ride was long, but Rasi answered a lot of questions for us on the way. Venice was beautiful. Will definitely go visit again.
The full day tour was AMAZING!!! It’s hard to select one memorable part but I would have to say the gondola ride, which included a serenade. Our tour guide, Anita, had pre-ordered “skip the line” tickets for most of the major attractions, which saved us a lot of time in old Venice, which was packed with tourists. Anita knew her history and kept us spellbound with her knowledge. This trip had been on my bucket list for many years and exceeded my expectations! Thank you Anita!!
We highly recommend this day tour of Venice. We wanted to see Venice but only had one day to see it . From start to finish this day was perfect and stress free. A driver picked us up from our hotel and dropped us off at the train station where our tour guide Giuseppe was waiting to meet us for the ride to Venice. A stress free experience as we did not have to worry about finding a train or where to go. Giuseppe made it so easy and relaxing He was with us the rest of the day He made our first visit to Venice a very enjoyable and memorable one. He recommended a restaurant for us for lunch with great food. He also was able to get us a gondola ride. A must see experience He showed us the different sites in Venice and was very knowledgeable. We would highly recommend Giuseppe if you are looking to see Venice it is a four hour train ride each way however I can honestly say Giuseppe made the day feel relaxed and not rushed. We can’t wait to come back to Venice again!!
The Private Tour is the way to go -- our guide, Lorenzo, was with us every step of the way! He greeted us at the train station, helping us get in the right seats on the train, showing us the sights in Venice, getting us lunch reservations, and getting us back to Rome! He was great to talk with and he had tons of information about Venice to share!
The tour of Venice exceeded our expectations. Perfect. Our guide is not just an archeologists but also a certified rock star and an even better person.
This was a great experience. Our guide, Juliano, was amazing. He gave us lessons about the history of Venice. He also showed us some sites that we never would have found, or been given access to normally, For instance, he was able to get us into a private showing at a glass factory to see how glass products are made. The trip was well worth it.
Venice is a great city. I wish we were not so rushed to get everything done on the tour escorts agenda. We had to be in certain places by set times. We did get to go on a gondola ride. The driver did not say anything on the whole trip. The only words he said was to the tour escort asking if we gave a tip. We had no time to shop as we were whisked around so fast. Next time we will stay in Venice. Not a good day trip from Rome.
If you are visiting Rome and wondering about the day trip to Venice, stop wondering. It is a great day - and, yes, a long worthwhile day - but you will not regret taking the time to visit this Italian unique city! We will be coming back with more family in 12 months and we will do the same trip again!

If you are stapped for time and want to see Venice in a day, this tour is a way to go! Our tour guide Irene did a great job helping us navigate crowded streets of Venice while giving us an overview of sites we were passing by. She also arranged condola ride for us not included in the trip cost so we did not have to wait in line wasting precious time. We were also able to visit St. Mark's cathedral without standing in line. Murano glass factory visit which included glass blowing presentation was amazing!

This was a perfect way to end our Italy trip! Venice was captivating and our personal guide was terrific! Made our day so enjoyable and stress free traveling.

It was a wonderful tour where you get a glimpse into Venice. We had a wonderful guide and he made the experience memorable. We got a taste of venice as we were in Italy only for a short period. Really enjoyed it.

We highly recommend this tour. We never could have navigated the intricate maze of streets and bridges without our excellent guide Lorenzo. Our private gondola ride was one of the highlights of our visit to Venice. The train was comfortable and on time as was our pick up and drop off at our hotel.

Irene was amazing. We cannot say enough about her. She did everything right but she can not control the weather :. It was a cold rainy day, but with Irene it did not matter. It is well worth the money to skip the lines. She explained the sites in great detail. We even had time on our own which was more than enough time. We could not have done this trip with out her!!!!! Thank you Irene thank you Irene!!!! Xo

This tour is expensive and Venice is a tourist trap! About 4 hours on a train each way. No service is available on this train...not even bottled water. When we arrived, we were told by our guide that the price of a gondala ride was NOT included - that was another 95 euros about 115 due on the spot. It was a nice 10 minute ride however, the gondala driver never offered any info - he was on his cell phone and talking to other gondala drivers. The restaurant suggested by our guide had a table, and was WAY overpriced! 5 euros 6 for a can of Coke! We ended up sharing a pizza bc it was the cheapest thing on the menu. None of the servers were nice and Venice does not treat tourists well. And the place is covered up like ants with tourists carrying luggage. Spend your in another city where they actually like the tourists...like Rome or Florence. Don't waste your money. After the price of tickets, food, gondalas, etc., we spent 1000 each on this city and it was the worst day trip by far!

A very special day in Venice - I highly recommend this trip - we found out that we love Venice and will be going back.

Claudio was entertaining! Major sights seen and was given enough time to explore St Mark square. Even able to visit murano glass factory and do the gondola ride coating 80 Euro. Awesome experience! Train trip was longer than Venice tour though but overall, we enjoyed our short stay in Venice

We had one day to see Venice - and this made it amazing. We had a very sweet tour guide. She answered all of our questions, and made sure we were in the front of the very, very, very long lines for gondolas. We also visited the church on the canal. It was breathtaking, and again, we were in the front of the line. Venice is amazing to see and the shopping is out-of-this-world. Venice is known for their glass, so get some jewelry. Well worth it. This guide and these perks make the expense of this trip very reasonable. I do not think we could have seen Venice without this tour -- the lines were hours long. It's a must see.

My wife and myself booked for this tour and it was wonderful. We were worried that it was going to be difficult to fitting in a day trip to Venice from Rome, but Irene Fulgenzi made it possible. She was an excellent tour guide who knew all the back streets to help us see all the wonderful bridges, landmarks, St Mark's Square. She knew many of the local shops not on the main stretch where we were able to get some real bargains, like authentic Murano glass and genuine leather Made in Italy products. She also recommended a lovely place for lunch and secured for us a really nice Gondola ride skipping the queue so we didn't waste time. What was also excellent as the hotel bus to train station and train transfers were all included. We even enjoyed a lovely 25 min ferry ride on the canal back to the train station before heading back to Rome. We highly recommend this private tour.

Our trip to Venice was very rewarding. We left wanting to return. Our tour guide made our journey by train, gondola and walking very interesting with the history of Venice..very relaxed and educational..well worth taking the private tour. Highly recommend or tour guide Catherine.
