Do not waste your time buying this tour. Wasted a lot of time in the Vatican museum and not the Sistine Chapel as advertised. We had booked the Basilica addition to the tour. Because so long wandering around the museum we only had a quick 7/8 minutes to look at the Sistine Chapel before having to walk back through the museum to make sure we were back on time for the Basilica (it's a very very long walk) Don't waste your time buying this tour in hindsight I think it's best to pay for the sistine chapel and the basilica separately. (Skip the line would be best) Beautiful places but I was so disappointed that I didn't get to enjoy the splendour of the Sistine Chapel as we were having to rush. The guide (laughable title) didn't seem to know where to go what queue to get in for the Basilica, we got to the metal detector and he left us! All this we could have done ourselves so pleased be warned when looking at this trip, I would not recommend it all

4.5/5 Stars – Incredible Tour & Guide, Pack Your Walking Shoes! Our visit to the Vatican was truly special, and just like our Colosseum tour, it would have felt like a wasted opportunity without our guide. They were exceptionally knowledgeable, warm, and humorous, bringing the history of these iconic sites to life effortlessly. The Positives: Priority Access is Essential: The queues outside were massive. Having skip-the-line access was worth every penny, especially visiting in November when queuing outside in the chilly, unpredictable weather is no fun. Breathtaking Sights: The Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica, and St. Peter's Square are absolutely awe-inspiring. Having an expert walk us through it made all the difference. Things to Keep in Mind (Constructive Feedback): Meeting Point & Facilities: The neighborhood directly outside the Vatican area isn't the most pleasant, and there were no obvious public restrooms at the designated tour meeting point. Make sure to use the facilities before you arrive! Pacing & Walking for Seniors: Be prepared for a lot of walking. After finishing the internal tour of the Museums and the Sistine Chapel, we had to walk all the way back to the original meeting spot outside before being escorted over to St. Peter's Basilica. A few elderly members of our group couldn't keep up with the pace and unfortunately missed the basilica portion (though hopefully, they were able to join a later group). Overall Verdict: An absolute must-do experience with top-tier guiding. If you're traveling with older family members, just be mindful of the physical demands and the back-and-forth walking between locations!
The meeting place was very convenient - only a few blocks from my hotel (one of the reasons I picked the tour.) The tour group "organizer" did not speak very good English so it was a bit confusing for folks who showed up for the (rescheduled) tour at 9:15am. . He informed us all that, in order to see St. Peter's Basilica, we would have to return to the tour office by 12:45 pm, which did not allow enough time for getting through the crowds at the Vatican. This tour "detour" was not communicated in the online description. The initial part of the tour began at the Vatican museums (wonderful tour guide!) and ended at the Sistene Chapel (on your own). I ended up stopping for a bite to eat before exciting Vatican City. I booked an online reservation (free!) to St. Peter's Basilica at 6pm. I would highly recommend going to the Basilica at night - awe-inspiring! I would not attempt a visit to the Vatican without a "skip the line" tour and guide. The waiting lines were very long. Such a waste of precious time. I think this tour group could tighten up their process a bit and communicate the sequencing up front.
Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. The group was a nice, manageable size, and the skip-the-line access was a real bonus. The tour itself was fantastic, packed with fascinating history and interesting insights. Definitely worth the money! The only downside was that three hours felt a little long, with quite a lot of walking. Overall, a brilliant experience and highly recommended!
Fantastic atmosphere and art was breathtaking although very crowded this is a must do when visiting Rome
Guided tour was amazing,it would be difficult to know where to go if you were attempting a solo visit
We were on our own looking around. We also listened to some of the guides as we went threw
Rica was very prompt with starting the tour. She has excellent knowledge and was very warm and friendly. This is the first time for me and my wife in Rome and we loved it. Thank you.
It was a well organized Tour, we could easily find the meeting point and there were less time in the Line. Our guide Valentina gived us useful and interesting information.
Great overview of key history and items in the Vatican, Museum and Sistine Chapel. Tour guide was knowledgeable.
Very Disappointing Tour – Not What Was Advertised Unfortunately, this was a terrible experience. The tour guide talked excessively and then practically ran from one point to the next, making it extremely difficult to keep up or properly enjoy and appreciate what we were seeing. The biggest disappointment was that once we entered the Sistine Chapel, the guide simply disappeared. Despite booking a tour advertised as including entry to St. Peter’s Basilica, we were never taken into the Basilica at all. The whole experience felt rushed, disorganized, and poorly managed. We paid for a guided tour that was supposed to include these major attractions, but we didn't receive what was advertised. I would not recommend this tour.
our guide for the vatican and sistine chapel was very good, but the one who took us to the basilica later in the day was not. he moved so quickly that we got left behind coming through security. he started without us and 4 others so we had to run to catch up. i was one of 6 older people in the group and we just couldn’t keep up with him.
Crowded experience, but we expected that. Could have used some more time in the Museum. One annoying thing, the tour guide had a cough which came loudly through the earphones. Price was fair.
Beware with these tours as they have a tendency to reschedule your visit at another time and split it up so you need to reorganise any other plans. Going to visit the Vatican is like going through a chaotic meat market. You will be overwhelmed by the splendour but there are too many people. It is hectic and overcrowded so you can't really enjoy to take in the whole grandeur of the place. All is quick and chaotic. Our guide was very knowledgeable yet not very friendly, but I can hardly blame her, I wouldn't have the patience for it either. You do need a tour guide and definitely repeat the tour on your own to really absorb the beauty and information. And be flexible with your time schedule. The Vatican is a must and needs the deserved time to visit.
The tour was great but we did not get basilica access, I’m not sure if I was supposed to ask or what but seeing the Vatican was amazing as was the art and the Sistine Chapel is awe-inspiring. The guide was knowledgeable and it was a good experience.
The Vatican museums and the Sistine Chapel were amazing! David, my guide was excellent. Informative, knowledgeable and friendly. Explained the highlights.
Well organized despite being masses of people. Informative and entertaining guide.
Great skip the line option for the museums but what they don’t tell you is to access the optional basilica entry you must go back to their office first. Just know that before you book.
This was, without a doubt, one of the best guided tours we took during our trip to Italy. The Vatican Museums are absolutely stunning, but seeing the Sistine Chapel in person is an experience on a completely different level. No matter how many pictures you’ve seen or how much you’ve heard about it, nothing compares to actually standing there and admiring such an extraordinary masterpiece with your own eyes. I highly recommend taking a guided tour, especially if you’re visiting with limited time. Not only do you save valuable time by avoiding long lines, but you also avoid the challenge of figuring out where to start, what to see, and which masterpieces to prioritize. The Vatican Museums are enormous, and unless you have days to explore everything, a well-organized, purposeful guided tour is definitely the way to go. Our guide was absolutely outstanding, one of the very best we had throughout our entire trip! She was extremely knowledgeable, clear and precise in her explanations, always happy to answer questions, and genuinely passionate about everything she was sharing. Her enthusiasm made the experience even more engaging and meaningful. The tour was very well structured, allowing us to focus on the highlights while gaining a much deeper understanding of the history and significance behind what we were seeing. And, of course, the Sistine Chapel was the unforgettable highlight. It’s one of those places you simply have to experience in person to truly appreciate its beauty and magnificence. I 100% recommend booking this guided tour through Tripadvisor! It’s absolutely worth it, both for the time you save and for everything you learn along the way. A truly unforgettable experience and an absolute must when visiting Rome!
Guide very knowledgeable. although wasn’t aware we had to return to tour operators shop at a later time in the day to continue with the tour around the Basilica, due to timing restraints we didn’t get to see the Basilica ☹️ we spent 3 hours on the tour of the Vatican Museums, for them to say come back in 2 hours time to continue with the rest of the tour for the Basilica , in my opinion this was very poor communication and wasn’t outlined in the original booking that it was 2 separate trips.
The tour company was very unorganized and the actual tour was delayed. We were told when finally heading to the Vatican, that we needed to go back to the original meeting place for the Basilica part of the tour. Our guide was rushed and the group was separated quite often. Because the museum was so crowded and our tour guide was out of ear reach, we finished the tour behind schedule. We had no time to get back to the meeting place and did not get the guided tour of the Basilica (which we paid for in advance). I would NOT recommend this tour company and this tour specifically.
My second time visiting and with the same guide - David! Surprised to see him again, nice and good guy, knowledgeable!
Very detailed tour of the Vatican museums, along with access to the Sistine Chapel. Full two hours in the galleries.
We did the skip the line guides tour of Museums and Sistine chapel with unguided access to St Peter’s Basilica. We booked last minute through TripAdvisor after the reservation we made months in advance through GetYourGuide was canceled on us with less than 24 hours notice (NOT GOOD!). Thankfully TripAdvisor was able to accommodate us last minute. The meet up and check in was seamless. Our guide Basl was extremely knowledgeable and informative having done this for 15 years. Our group size was 11 people and we were all given radio receivers and earphones to hear our guide. Be prepared for a lot of walking and a lot of stair climbing. Everything was amazing and beautiful but the crowds greatly exceeded our anticipation and made the visit less enjoyable than ideal as it was nearly impossible to stop and take in those things one might like to spend more time viewing. We had visited St Peter’s Square previously at night on a golf cart tour and we got to enjoy it lit up without the throngs of tourists and all the pesky people trying to sell things. Highly recommend an evening visit to appreciate the beauty of the Square. .
David had so many interesting stories and such extensive knowledge during our guided trip around the Vatican. He was really able to enhance our experience, by simply highlighting the importance of the artefacts around us and bringing the art and the period it was made, to life.
This timing of this tour is unpredictable. Entry was delayed despite being assured through correspondence only days prior. Our “skip the line” pass was only good for 3 hours after we finished touring the rest despite the basilica being open for viewing. Plus u had to return back to the tour office after the tour of the Vatican museum and Sistine chapel to pick up your passes for the basilica. We would have missed our train back to the port.
Our guide was exceptional. Dave’s was super knowledgeable, easy to u destined and went at the right pace. He did a great job with some people who didn’t want to follow the rules too well also. All around, he was 6 stars out of 5!!
Our tour for the sistine chapel was amazing, Francesca (I believe was her name) she was very knowledgeable and very detailed. The process of the company for the Basílica was a bit disorganized. We had to walk back to the orginal meeting point to get a tour operator that would walk us back in again because this portion is just access to the entrance not a guided tour.
Too many people AND not enough time
Excellent tour considering. Museum is immense and very crowded. Difficult to really absorb everything, much less see everyrhing. Guide was very informative. Was surprised with the Basilica since we had access but somehow it turned into a tour. That guide was excellent, explaining so many things within the Basilica.
Patrick was extremely knowledgable!! He made jokes to make it fun and not mundane. The rate was very reasonable and the group size perfect. We finished within 3 hours but saw and heard about all of the highlights along the trip. Whatever he's making, his man needs a raise!!
The first part of the tour was good and we had a great tour guide. The problem arose when it was time to enter the Basilica. I paid extra for Basilica access but was denied this access. Every agent I spoke with said I should have been given a paper ticket. I was not given a paper ticket so I was forced to stand in the very long line. This was frustrating and very disappointing. I am sorry to know that I paid extra for access that I wasn’t given.
Communication was great, easy to find, on time. David our guide was informative, entertaining and managed to get us into st.peters square so we could access the Basilica - a standout highlight , and unexpected. Highly recommend, especially our wonderful guide.
Patrizio was the best tour guide of the 5 we've had on this trip. He made The Vatican come alive and as a real place with very interesting history. We were mostly visiting because it was "required" on a trip to Rome. But it was made special and fascinating because of Patrizio.
There was so much to see in the Vatican, so having a guide to explain things was extremely helpful. Ludovica was wonderful and had many tidbits of information that we would not have heard otherwise!
Easy skip the line and perfect guided tour to see the main stops on the Vatican. We met 30 mins early and they brought us in
The guide was excellent!! She was very knowledgeable and friendly! Glad that we had her as a guide I highly recommend her!
The Basilica and the Sistine chapel were excellent, well worth a visit. The tour of the museums was far too long, taking 2 hours and far too much walking. We would have been happy with just the Basilica and the Sistine chapel
Great experience. Tour guide was great. Other positives was it saved queueing. Great for all the family
Amazing tour. Raul well acknowledged. Well explained. He knows a lot about what to say on the tour. We were very happy to have done it.
Our tour guide was very informative and enthusiastic. It was worth skipping the line and also hearing history and to know what youre looking at is worth the money
We really enjoyed our guided tour with Francesco he was very informative and engaging with a lot of local knowledge.
Top notch tour by an experienced, knowledgeable and friendly guide. Very well versed in the history of the museums.
Amazing to see the Vatican museum it was amazing so much to see. The Sistine Chapel was amazing. We went from thernhadna quick bite to eat and into St Peter basilica wow what an day.
David was amazing. Such a great tour and guide.
This was a great tour and we had a very good tour guide. It was very crowded! I highly recommend the tour if you want to see the Vatican because with this tour you are able to skip the long lines and get right in.
An Unforgettable Tour of the Vatican and Sistine Chapel with Martha! If you are planning a visit to the Vatican, booking a tour with Martha is an absolute must! Exploring the vast collections of the Vatican Museums and the breathtaking beauty of the Sistine Chapel can easily feel overwhelming, but Martha made the entire experience seamless, engaging, and truly unforgettable. From the moment our tour began, Martha’s warmth and enthusiasm set a wonderful tone for the day. Her knowledge of art, architecture, and religious history is exceptional. Rather than just reciting dates and facts, she brought the history of the papacy to life with rich storytelling, fascinating anecdotes, and deep insights into how the Vatican evolved over the centuries. When we reached the Sistine Chapel, her explanations gave us a whole new appreciation for Michelangelo’s masterpiece. She pointed out subtle details, historical contexts, and artistic nuances that we would have completely missed on our own. Martha kept a great pace throughout the tour, ensuring we saw all the major highlights without ever feeling rushed. She was extremely patient, answered all our questions with genuine enthusiasm, and made sure everyone in our group had a great experience. If you want a thoughtful, highly informative, and engaging Vatican tour, we cannot recommend Martha enough. Thank you, Martha, for giving us such a memorable and inspiring experience!
The local guide had fantastic knowledge and we are so glad that we booked this tour. So much to see and learn.
Very comprehensive skip the line tour. There are still a large number of people that purchase skip the line tours so there is a line to get in but hours shorter than those with regular tickets. The guide is everything on a tour of this magnitude and Cosmo was fantastic! Knowledgeable, passionate and funny!
Overall, a very good experience! Everything was well organized and went smoothly. The museum was extremely crowded, but that's obviously not the organizer's fault. The only minor issue was that our ticket was for 30 minutes later than the time we originally booked. I assume there weren't enough people for our selected time slot, so we were grouped with a later tour.
