We were notified the night before the event that the tour was cancelled due to a technical glitch. This left as high and dry with no alternative option apart from to queue for three hours. We ended up having to pay more in order to avoid the extremely long cues.

Beware of cancellation at the last minute! We had booked our tour for the Tuesday before Easter weekend, purposely avoiding the busy period in Rome. The day before the tour, we received a WhatsApp message saying there was a problem with the ticket delivery system (email) and if it couldn't be sorted by 6m thst evening we would be given a refund. No tickets arrived. Buying additional tickets on the day was so much more expensive than our original booking so we did not do this and 4 days later still no refund. When ordering make sure you have ACTUAL tickets and not a voucher as the tickets may never arrive. So disappointed.
We didn’t really enjoy the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel tour. It’s quite boring
We never received the tickets we booked many days in advance. The agent kept telling us they would be sent, until one hour before the time we had booked, when he said they were not available and a refund would be given. It was too late to get replacement tickets, we missed out on seeing the vatican. Very disappointed
Terribly disappointed!! Deserves zero stars!!! Book this tour elsewhere for your own good!! I booked this 5 months in advance with hype emails only a few hours before the tour... "get your tickets now... heres your tickets" the links didnt work!! We were told 2 hours before the tour that the tickets were no longer available... but that they would "look for other tickers for 1 hour, if not found then a refund would be provided". This meant we couldn't find our own elsewhere until then.... They didn't communicate that they hadn't found the tickets until we contacted Viator customer service long after the one hour was completed!
Booked the event over 6 months in advance only to find out 1 hour before entrance that my tickets weren't available anymore. I had to go find another tour company for my wife and I.
Very disappointing experience. I received an email 2 days before my visit saying that my tickets were ready, but when I looked in the app nothing was there. On the day of the event, the company sent me a message saying that due to a “technical issue” my tickets were delayed. Then, they messaged again saying they would have an update for me by 2 pm (the experience was supposed to start at 4:30 pm.) They finally said they had no tickets and that they would issue a refund. While I’m thankful for the refund, it was incredibly frustrating to have to plan around maybe having tickets or maybe not. We wound up buying some at the Vatican itself and saved $60 per person, which was at least a win.
They dont have tickets, dont know what scam is this but they let you know 20min before that they dont have tickets for you and cancel on you. Many comments like this here but I did not read before and fall for the same thing. J hope Viator do something about this, I made a huge complain.
Scam. No ticket. Despicable business practice and Viator should be ashamed to allow such practices. Our valuable limited time Rome was ruined
I booked Vatican Museum tickets through Viator Approx three weeks in advance. However, just two hours before my scheduled entry time, I received an email and a what's app message saying there was a “technical issue” and my tickets had been delayed to issue." Yes, it's required to fully pay the feel when booking but you don't receive the e-tickets until 1-2 hours before your actual visiting time. This was extremely disappointing and completely ruined my plans for the day. As my family had to spend 5hours waiting in the insane long queue to get a ticket on site. The price of a ticket was way cheaper than Viator's. When chasing Viator for a refund, their staff were quite rude during the process. It took multiple messages to get a response. Overall, this was a very poor experience. I would not recommend booking through Viator at all. Obviously Viator wouldn't care this comment Based on their poor customer service.
Seamless experience with the provider, no problems, no issues - 10/10. This was my second time visiting Museums, so the main reason for using the service was to skip the line. And they saved 2-ish hours of my life 🙂 Compared to other providers, the best thing is that you don’t need to go anywhere to collect your tickets - they use digital tickets! Pay attention to this - it is really valuable!!!
It was a most memorable experience, looking at over all the beautiful artifacts and our Catholic History, which for me was very important. I would Gladley revisit in the future.
I was sent by email my "tickets". when i showed them to an official at the VAtican, he told me that those were not tickets. My aoppointment was at 1:30. prior to that time the official tickets were not emailed to me. i was very dismayed and upset, thinking that this was a scam.
You were to send the tickets 30 minutes before the tour started. You were unable to do so, due to a technical issue. We were not able to get into the Vatican after traveling from overseas. What a disappointment!
Unfortunately I cannot leave a review as our tickets were cancelled - or blocked as we were told - and we are awaiting a refund.
Messaged in the morning to let them know I’d not received the tickets yet and I was told to wait for them to come through. 20 minutes before I was due to enter, after travelling there in the morning I was told that we couldn’t go in at our chosen time. I was kept waiting whilst they said they were trying to get tickets for an hour later. I asked when these would arrive and was kept waiting longer until I asked them to give an update or issue a full refund. A full refund was given and with other things booked, we now no longer are able to visit the Vatican City. Planned our trip around this and have just been messed around.
We never received the tickets, had to purchase a tour and pay more money and waited 3 hours for our other local tour. I understand this occurred for many ISA tours as basilica was closed the day we visited but would have been nice to honor our Sistine chapel and museum tickets instead of having to purchase a local tour. Thankful Viator reimbursed us that day but very inconvenient as we booked this tour 3 months prior and got cancelled the morning of the tour
Get there early the lines are quite long overall a great tour. Would definitely recommend this tour.
DO NOT book this tour. Whatsoever. Buy it directly through the Vatican website. 8:30 “ no line ticket” with trip advisor. Just to get a text message 1 hour prior that it was cancelled with no explanation besides it’s a technical issue with the Vatican. Absolute nonsense. Do not waste your time, money or energy with this organization. You will have to stand in line for over 3 hours when they screw you over.
Museums filled with many treasures. Very crowded which was took away from the experience. Long tour with almost too much to see. Enjoyed the tour.
Walk thru living history. They have a 3 1/2 hour tour to see everything. There is an excellent little restaurant on site that has great food and ice cold water. We saw so much beauty it was almost unfathomable. Although we did not see the Pope, there is always that chance.
Electronic tickets with directions and pics of where to go delivered before the trip. Easy in and out. Perfect if you want to do your own tour.
Fantastic inside look at the colosseum. Our tour guide was fantastic and funny. She was very good with keeping us on track and providing the history. She was very gracious
Our guide, David Walden, was both well educated concerning the sites and enthusiastic. David was superb.
We actually loved being able to pace the tour ourselves. There was a lot of information but you could pick and choose. The rooms weren’t always very well marked but that’s a general Vatican problem that all tours will face. We were exhausted at the end!
Very efficient and really great to be able to walk straight in past the thousands of people queuing. Awesome museums. Hight recommend
The solo tour was great but getting the tickets validated was a mess. Very confusing and so many different people telling us to go different places to validate them
Do NOT waste your money! We paid almost $300 more for this- tickets online to the Vatican are $20 (euros), and you get into the SAME LINE as those who ordered tickets themselves through the official Vatican website. There is NO SUCH THING as a “guaranteed fast pass”. Now… if the Vatican is sold out and this is your last option, then I’d go ahead and do it. It was an incredible experience and worth it.
Fantastic trip through the Vatican and Sistine Chapel. Crowds were very well managed, only disapointment was our fellow tourists who were happy to disregard the requests of silence. Sorry they wouldn't respect the magnificence of this fantastic experience. Many thanks 😊
The Vatican and Sistine Chapel are spectacular. A must see in Rome. tickets were sent directly to me so we didn't even need to go to office. Very grateful to have found them and able to get tickets last minute.
If buying from Viator…. Expect to pay way over the actual price. We paid $450 for 4 tickets and when they were delivered electronically, they only cost $25 each…. So a $350 markup.
We really enjoyed our visit to Colosseum and Vatican Museum in Rome. Our flight from Paris was cancelled and caused a lot of disruption but Vijay was extremely helpful in arranging tickets. He was prompt, responsive and provided all the information we needed.
If you’re traveling with kids and stroller, there’s a luggage storage inside within the entrance where you can drop off stroller and bags for free. You pick them up on your way out.
We had a great experience at the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel. We purchased tickets through Rome City Tours. We received them via e-mail the day before our visit. They were easy to use straight from your phone; no need to print. We did not book a tour. Tickets only. When in Rome, I would use this business again.
Finding the group was chaotic at this time of year. Almost missed them. Also I was under the impression we had a tour especially since insisting our headphones. I also thought we’d have axes to different areas in the colosseum than we did because this is how it was advertised. It was not as advertised and you really need to read the fine print through and through. Pretty frustrated with that.
Expect crowds and tons of tour groups blocking your way. It is hard to enjoy much of the displays along the way due to crowding. It is also quite a long way to the Sistine Chapel so if you are not able to walk distances you may need assistance.
Do not purchase tickets form here. They say they will give you your tickets 1-2 hours before the event but never do. Avoid this at all cost
This ticket was so very easy. You do not have to spend the money on an expensive tour to see everything beautiful inside. We just showed our voucher and walked right in.
Skip the line ! quick and seamless during the month of July was very busy . Our family of 5 got right in. We bought the audio guide from the museum which was helpful Our kids couldn’t sit for a long arduous guided tour so we did this one instead
The views were amazing, and I loved the artwork. TripAdvisor tickets were great, had no problems. We did feel like we were being rushed through. It was a bit like a conveyor belt. Do not let them rush you. Just take your time and soak up the experience.
The tickets didn’t work and I was denied entry. I feel scammed. When I asked for my money back, it was refused. The person on the phone was rude and patronising. Ruined my trip.
I got the ticket in pdf to email and I used it at the entrance. I recommend not to come earlier (for example if you have ticket at 10:30 and you come at 10:00, they will just not let you in).
Great value option as the pass gives you entry and the ability to skip the long lines. I would certainly recommend for anyone who wants to access the museum and see the chapel by their own.
Booked tickets but then was notified a couple hours before our booking that the Vatican had rejected the tickets and the local company were unable to provide them. Spent $718 for 6 people and now waiting for a refund from Viator. Were unable to get into see the museum and Sistine chapel on this day. Very disappointing.
Didn’t get to go. The tickets never arrived but they did contact us at 11 to let us know if they didn’t arrive by 1230 we’d get a full refund and that same day they did process the refund. Would recommend booking elsewhere if this is one of your go to places to visit. We weren’t that fussed about it, so it wasn’t the end of the world.
Originally ticket was for 11 am but made us wait in broiling sun till 11:30 ticket came saying 11:30 why the discrepancy?
Very large, varied museum. You will need plenty time to explore it fully. Like a full day. Was fairly crowded when we visited but it wasn't overbearing. Really just wanted to see the Sistine Chapel so everything else was icing on the cake. If you are heavily into museums this should be a good fit for you.
SCAM: We bought the tickets 2 weeks ago, and 2 hours before the experience I didn’t hear nothing from the company, so I wrote them, they told they have some technical problems, and they can’t give us tickets, so basically they destroyed our plans, they could tell it at least one day before or something, so be careful, you can randomly get rejected even if you bought the tickets… they probably overbooked spaces and then think some people will not show up or something…. Wouldn’t recommend… hope I will get reimbursed for that… and it still wouldn’t be enough… they should give some kind of compensation for their mistakes, or should I say scams…
We didn't know HOW this worked. You don't meet a tour guide; they just email you a pdf of your tickets. We received ours about five minutes before our reserved time so it worked out perfectly. Once we received the tickets, everything was smooth. I would definitely recommend booking in advance. The line for people who had not bought tickets was three hours long, and they were standing in the sun. We felt sorry for them. Be prepared to go through security twice and show your passport. Once you're in, it's very crowded. The crowd moves along one route through the rooms, and the Sistine Chapel is toward the end.
Easy to book and paperwork and information was sent as promised by WhatsApp and email. With clear instructions as to where to go and how to access the entrance
