Itinerary
Meet your guide near the entrance to the Vatican Museums. The exact meeting point can be found on your booking voucher, and your guide will give you a quick overview before the group enters the museums in the early evening.
Continue to the Pio-Clementino Museum, home to some of the Vatican’s most important ancient sculptures. See works such as the Apollo Belvedere, Laocoön and His Sons, the Belvedere Torso, and Nero’s massive ancient bathtub as your guide explains their myths and influence.
Then, experience the best galleries at the Vatican with your expert guide. Visit the Candelabra, Tapestries, and Maps galleries. Admire ancient Roman and Greek statues, Flemish tapestries, and spectacular topographical maps commissioned by Pope Gregory XIII. Your guide will reveal the stories behind these treasures as Vatican secrets are unveiled to you. Then enter the Raphael Rooms to see Raphael's famous fresco, The School of Athens, and other masterpieces.
End your tour in the Sistine Chapel, where silence is required. Before you enter, your guide explains Michelangelo’s ceiling frescoes and Last Judgment, so you know what to look for during your self-guided time in the chapel. Inside, you'll be mesmerized by the sheer number of figures painted by Michelangelo, over 600! This masterpiece is not only a testament to his talent but also serves as a gathering place for cardinals of the Catholic Church. The perfect ending to an incredible tour.

Marzia was well informed on art history and so proud of the city where she lives. Such a passionate tour full of valuable information.
Andrea was great. He knew SO much. He picked amazing things to discuss as he was open about not trying to overwhelm the group but if you had a specific question he would be more than happy to answer. He was just the right amount of comedic relief and intense passion for the tour. I recommend the last tour of the day for sure! It was amazing to avoid the crowds!
2hours in evening but not able to enter St Peter’s which closed at 7:30… very knowledgeable guide but too much time on art history details… easy entry… very long walk!
Knowledge and efficient guide. Explanations are very clear and easy to understand. The pace is very well controlled as well
Very knowledgeable guide. Almost too much information to absorb. Some problems with headsets, particularly keeping them in place on an ear. Fumbling with headsets was an issue for my wife. Also, I just about lost my $4000 hearing aid while fumbling with headset.
Francesco was an amazing tour guy. He explain everything so nicely.
Our guid was awesome his name is stefen (Stephen) ours was a private tour only 7 people & the last booking of the day. Going on the evening tour means no one coming in behind you. The hallways are very open lots of room to spread out linger take pics. Other times you will be literally elbo to elbow in a nonstop bumping mob. Do the last evening your ask for Stefen and you are golden!!!!! :0)
Stefano was wonderful! Full of information, funny, and great energy. Had such a great time learning with him as our guide!
This tour was great for hitting the highlights of the museum at a time that’s not as busy. Our tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable about the museum and history.
Our guide, The Tour Guy, was amazing. He combined humor with history. His storytelling was really interesting and entertaining. It was very hot, but despite the heat, it was one of the more interesting tours that we have been on. And just being in the Sistine Chapel is quite a moving experience. Highly recommend!
Lots of walking. Not too many of the areas are air conditioned. Excellent information. Best for older kids.
I have been on three Vatican tours and this one was the best! Our tour guide was knowledgeable and funny. She kept my seven year old engaged the entire 2 hours!
The guide never showed up. We had one chance to visit, so that's why we booked the tour we did. The tour guy company did answer the phone, so that was cool, and a refund was arranged. But we were unable to see the Sistine chapel.
Note: the evening tour does not include St. Peter’s Basilica. You will have to plan ahead and go there on your own before this tour as you will not finish the tour before the basilica closes. This is nothing against the tour, they make that clear. I just want others to know to communicate more effectively than I apparently did to everyone in your group so you don’t disappoint people. The Tour- this tour was great! The guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic which made the whole experience more enjoyable (I am not a museum person. If you are a stop and read every plaque and look at EVERY piece in the museum type person, just know you will have time to do that at the end on your own. There is a lot of ground to cover and this tour will give you the highlights.
It took us an hour and we didn't even get close to the museum. It was a huge waste of time! We would have been better off going on our own.
So amazing!! Loved our guide! The place is beautiful
This is a great option to see some of the highlights in the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel. It was less busy than it would be at other times of the day. Our guide Stephano was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. He handled our group through the museum like a pro. The headset made it easy to hear him. It was a slightly rushed tour but that was fine with us because we only wanted an overview.
Our guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. She picked out all the amazing details in the most important works of art.
This was a once in a lifetime tour. I can’t even begin to describe how special it was being the only people in the entire museum. It was literally only our one small group of maybe 10 people plus our guide and one security guard to escort us through the museum and the Sistine Chapel. Our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone seeking a more peaceful experience.
Maria was an excellent guide. She was very knowledgeable and easy to understand. There is so much to see in a very short period of time and having a guide like Maria gives you the opportunity to see and understand the highlights. Going in the late afternoon also means it’s a bit cooler and slightly less crowded. It was a very worthwhile experience and one of the highlights from our time in Rome.
Marzia was friendly, fun and incredibly knowledgeable about the Vatican and the art pieces. The small evening tour was exactly what we wanted and fit our schedule perfectly.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and informative! He moved our group along at a pleasant pace and continued to share information, with a nice touch of humor!
Faby is great guide and it was an informative tour. She planned the itinerary well and took us along all the places within including the chapel.
Our guide Eleonora gave us great info about the different pieces of the Vatican museums. Her English was clear. Great visit!
I loved our guided tour of the Vatican museum and Sistine Chapel. There is so much to see, I wish we had been able to stay longer
Absolutely unforgettable experience. Seeing the Sistine Chapel almost empty was surreal, peaceful, emotional and so much more special than a regular visit. The guide was knowledgeable, organized and made the whole tour feel very exclusive. Worth every euro for the atmosphere alone. If you’re in Rome and want to experience the Vatican without the huge crowds, this is the tour to book. Best for people who want to avoid crowds and experience the Vatican in a more peaceful, exclusive atmosphere. Perfect length , around 2 hours felt just right. Enough time to enjoy everything without feeling rushed or exhausted.
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and the rooms we saw in the museum were awe inspiring. However, we were surprised when the tour guide said goodbye to the group right before we entered the Sistine Chapel at 7:30 pm, after 2 hours although it was advertised as a 3 hour tour. We were then incredibly shocked and disappointed when we were immediately ushered out of the Sistine Chapel by guards who said it was closing time. So, we only got to see the Chapel for 60 seconds while being herded out. The guide did not warn us this would happen, but the guards told us they close at that time every night and our guide knew that. Earlier in the tour, our guide spent 15 minutes describing what we would see in the Chapel. I would have much rather had those 15 minutes to actually spend in the Chapel. We paid for what was advertised as a 3 hour tour featuring uncrowded time in the Chapel and instead got a 2 hour tour that only included the briefest glance in the Chapel. Very disappointing.
We had a wonderful Vatican museum tour with our guide Steve. His insights and knowledge of the artwork, architecture and history was impressive, yet he allowed plenty of room for group questions and camaraderie. The later day tour time allowed us to see exhibits without the midday crowds. Not having to wait in an entry line that wrapped around the building in the blaring sun was well worth the money.
The meeting place was hectic and quite stressful. The tour was rushed, and we spent the whole time trying to keep up, which was difficult due to crowds and the pace of the guide who said she was rushing us to get to the Sistine Chapel. We didn't have any opportunity to experience anything as we rushed from room to room. So disappointed.
Asia was an incredible, caring guide who came to pick us up at our location first thing iEaster morning to then guide us to meet the rest of her tour group already in line at The Vatican security check point. It helped expedite the easy entry and getting to the seats quickly. We were seated in a row that was close to the procession road where the Pope passes within arms reach. Could not have been closer. I believe this is where the money is spent!! The view from the seats was in close enough proximity to view the Mass without obstructions. Asia gave us some historical information while waiting for the Mass to start to occupy the time. It was an unforgettable way to spend Pope Leo XIV first Urbi et Orbi Mass. The weather and tour was fantastic. Thank You, Asia
Absolutely fabulous! Our guide was clearly passionate about art history. He brought the experience to life. So glad we booked a tour!
Plus: Our guide Nera(?) was amazing, she offered an immense amount of information and took us through the important things. Cons: The pace in which we were herded through the museums and chapel was just too fast. There was no time to stop and admire or learn more or ask questions. While I fully understand this is a guided tour with a group of people so stopping for each person at anytime would make the tour last forever, the comment has nothing to do with the guide as, again she was great, got us to all the "highlights"....just providing the information for any future visitors.
Raffa was a great guide 🫶 provided a lot of great info
Magical Vatican Nights After-hours magic transformed the Sistine Chapel into a serene wonder—guide's tales brought Michelangelo alive. Fewer crowds meant pure awe; skipped lines made it unforgettable.♥️😌
From booking to completion, everything was smooth. The guide’s professionalism made the tour enjoyable and memorable.
The itinerary was well designed, giving enough time at each stop while keeping the experience smooth and enjoyable.
The guide explained everything clearly and added interesting stories that made the tour both educational and fun.
This tour offered great value and a stress-free experience. The guide handled everything professionally and shared interesting insights.
The tour was smooth, well organized, and enjoyable throughout. The guide was friendly, informative, and made the experience feel relaxed and memorable.
Meeting instructions were clear, the schedule was well balanced, and the guide ensured everyone stayed comfortable and informed throughout..
Everything was well organized, smooth, and enjoyable. The guide made the tour engaging and memorable.
Wandering empty Vatican halls under starry skies felt surreal. Expert guide unpacked hidden stories in Raphael Rooms; intimate vibe elevated every fresco to masterpiece status.
I purchased this tour as a gift to our friends who had never been to Rome before. When they exited after the tour, they told me that the guide, Steve, ruined this experience. He was very insulting and condescending. When they first checked in with a tour representative, they inquired about using a toilet and were told they could use one when they went inside for the tour. Once inside, however, they were told by the guide, Steve, that the toilet should be used only in case of emergency and participants should be able to "hold it"; he gestured by holding his private parts. This was offensive. He also talked too much and left very few minutes to be in the Sistine Chapel. In addition, he disparaged the French people, saying that Italians don't like the French and that he felt that way himself. This is totally inappropriate behavior for a tour guide. The provider of this experience -- "The Tour Guy" -- should ensure that his guides are considerate of the participants, courteous, able to impart information in a concise and interesting way, and respectful. I have booked several tours through Viator and never left a bad review, but this time I was embarrassed and very disappointed for my friends who had been looking forward to this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Absolutely magical evening at the Vatican Museums! My guide, Luka, was friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. He taught us all so much about the art that I would have missed if I had gone on my own. The pace and organization were great and we got in quickly. I have done lots of tours around Europe and the US and this was by far the best one. Prefect paced, friendly guide and staff, and well run. I highly recommend to anyone wanting to see the Vatican in the evening.
Sublime. As a Catholic this has been more spiritual than sightseeing for me. We went back the next day to see Vatican City and St. Peter's Square as you could easily spend hours in the museums. It took us 4 hours to walk through. Not a tour, but get to see Santa Maria Maggiore. The hop-on, hop-off bus stops outside. Beautiful building and you can walk by Pope Francis's tomb on the left hand side of the Basilica.
Our was absolutely brilliant, it was so good to have a lady who not only knew what she was talking about but also had genuine enthusiasm that made the visit one of the best tours we have done during our stay. Just fantastic.
A truly enchanting experience! Exploring the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel at night, with fewer crowds and a wonderful guide, made every masterpiece even more memorable. Highly recommend!
Skipping the daytime crowds for this evening Vatican tour was genius! Our guide was witty and packed with fascinating stories. Plus, the cooler temps made admiring Michelangelo’s ceiling a lot less sweaty—culture and comfort, a rare combo!
Very friendly and funny tour guide. It was nice to skip the long line on people waiting in the sun to enter. Evening tours are less crowded and cooler inside. I would recommend this tour.
