Unique Rome By Night, Photo Tour And Workshop Under The Stars

I truly enjoyed the time Giulio spent with me bringing me around to many of the key sites and helping me with the basics of night photography. I have a fair grasp of daytime photography, however not so much working with manual mode in low light. And of course one could not ask for better subject material!

The night photography tour with Giulio was an excellent way to photograph Rome and learn about the history. He is so knowledgeable after travelling the world and being in this industry for so long, especially around Rome. Not only did he teach us new things about our cameras and framing, but while we walked to each destination he talked about the locations and gave us background information surrounding Rome and its history in those areas. It was a very peaceful experience where we got lots of beautiful photos out of it and learned a lot. Truly a 5 star experience, Giulio knows his stuff!

This was a fantastic experience! Guilio was such a gracious host and guide! He was very flexible with some circumstances that were beyond our control and went out of his way to make our experience great. He is very knowledgeable - teaches photography at the college level. Two people in our party came in with a decent amount of photography experience, so Guilio adjusted his interactions and direction to meet their ability level. He provided lots of great historical context and detail to the places we visited and photographed. We got some amazing photographs of some of the most iconic locations in Rome! He even tried to take us to a highly recommended gelato place to cool off after a long, hot evening (it was closed, but he gets an A+ for effort).

Great experience. Giulio was experienced, knowledgeable and kept great company during the tour. He took me to beautiful places and was flexible to take into account a thunderstorm. Rome is so different at night and really beautiful all lit up.

The workshop was wonderful! I got a lot of really good advice on composition, lighting, lots of tips on everything from helpful tips on my camera to taking a great photograph. Giulio was a wonderful guide, providing a lot of history and cultural information as well.

Giudo was great! I had an injured ankle and he literally carried the tripod and camera through the whole tour for me. He was a fabulous teaxher as three other friemds leqrned how to use their cameras and settings for night pictures. He brought us to major sites with unique angles for the best pictures. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone with any skill level of photography.our pictures came out great and Rome is even more beautiful at night!

I had been to Rome many times before but was never happy with the photos I took - especially the night ones. That was until this night photo tour with Giulio. Guilio not only took me to many of the iconic spots in Rome and showed me the best vantage points from which to photograph them, but also taught me a lot about composition, lighting, and other photographic principles. I came away with dozens of beautiful photos that I will cherish forever and lessons that I can apply anywhere in the world. Giulio's web site lets you pick the date you are interested in and then once booked sends you a confirmation email. A few days before your tour Giulio provides an email with information on where to meet and asks questions about your photography skills, type of gear you will be bringing and what you are hoping to see. The best part was in addition to photographing the well known parts, Coliseum, Pantheon he takes you to less famous but just as beautiful areas that are not crowded letting you take great photos. This is the best time to see Rome. The crowds drop tremendously and you can see what Rome has to offer without seeing all the people. Giulio not only shows you how to use your camera to optimize it for conditions, he ensures he have great shots before moving to the next spot. Giulio is wonderful. Getting around to iconic shots at night and getting images outside the normal. He knows the best angles, and while it’s Rome so no matter what hour there are always some tourists, Giulio makes great conversation and provides historical information as well. The photos were great, but walking around with a local was the best part.

This was a wonderful tour! Giulio was a great guide and he generously shared his wealth of knowledge of Rome's history and photography skills. We covered a lot of distance on this tour and got to see many of the big sites at a time of day I probably wouldn't have otherwise. I learned a lot about composition in particular and enjoyed every minute of the tour!

This is an outstanding tour that I cannot recommend enough. Giulio was fantastic in sharing his knowledge of the places we went as well as his vast knowledge in photography and capturing these fantastic monuments. Wow! What an experience with a wonderful teacher and insightful tour guide. I knew nothing about photography and now am ready to us my own camera! If you are an avid traveler and love photography, this is a must-do personalized activity. Giulio was awesome. He was super responsive and connected prior to the activity. I had history and photography 101 lessons. Learn more about Rome than I ever did in my past. I have been shooting for a long time and I probably learnt a lot of basics during this activity. Got to experience amazing locations for some nice night shooting in Rome. Perfect activity in the night if you are doing a Rome trip in the summer.

This is one of the best tours I’ve ever done—and if I were to only do one in Rome, this would be it. Giulio is a professional photographer and film maker who has worked around the world before returning who’s Rome home. His Italian history stories have just the right amount of detail; his documentary making experience comes through. He will ask about your equipment and interests. I brought my iPhone and asked for guidance on composition. He explained design principles and for each shot, showed me how to reshoot more effectively. It’s an enjoyable evening and I have striking photos of major landmarks —vastly better than my normal snaps.

Giulio was hands down the best tour we did in Rome!!! Not only was he a great photographer but he is very knowledgeable about Italian history. Without a doubt Guilio's private Rome by Night, Photo Tour and Workshop Under the Stars was the highlight of my Italy vacation. That says a lot since we also did a Papal Audience earlier! Guilio mixed history of his city with photo theory, composition, and expert hands-on camera knowledge! He expertly led us around his city explaining the history of Rome in terms that we would remember, unlike the statistics the tour guides previously threw at us. At each photo shoot we discussed the rule of thirds, leading lines, manual shooting settings and why, and the story your photo is trying to tell. My wife and I throughly enjoyed spending the evening with Guilio exploring Rome and taking awesome night shots that I will be proud to display. Giulio guided us through multiple sites with excellent insights for individual photos and guidance for positioning and settings. He is an accomplished professional and was very willing to share as much-or as little- advice as I required. This was a great tour and the unseasonal showers gave us some wonderful light reflections on the streets and pavements. This is my second tour in three years with Rome Photo Fun Tours and Giuio. (The pandemic slowed my return to his beautiful city.) Like the first, this tour was excellent. Professionally run and well-timed to catch the best light and best locations. The night tour is especially nice with no crowds and the sites often to ourselves. Giulio guides you gently to improve your technique and composition, even if you have some experience. The locations were beautiful and his rich knowledge of history only adds to the fun. This was my favorite experience in Rome -- Giulio is not only extremely knowledgeable about his native town and its unmatched history, he is so much fun to be around! His enthusiasm and passion for Rome, its history, the iconic places we photographed coupled with his ability to teach photography at the same time...and all on a very rainy night, simply put, was outstanding! And throughout our 4 hours we walked and took pictures, we had some amazing philosophical discussions as well...reminding me that we may come from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences but making true human connections with others is really all that matters and the glue that holds us together. I have been using a camera for over 45 years. I have taken many photo courses to improve my skills but I learned a great amount from Guilio in just one working session. Most important, Guillio heard that I had injured my left leg and helped by driving us to the many parts of Rome that he suggested were great for night photographer. I can not say enough. Giullio D'Ercole was the guide. He as extensive knowledge of photography and an quickly put you on great shots. He will teach you a technique that it doesn't matter the camera and a technique that you will be able to easily replicate after the tour to get great night shots by yourself. There is many advantages to night photography, less crowds, more dramatic lighting, and a terrific way to feature these great classic structures. The pictures below were taken on the tour, I have not had time to finish them so no over Photoshop. I have a dozen or more pictues as good of better than these and this is without post processing except for brightness and croping. Take Guilio's tour, I guarantee you will thank him for his time

The photographer was very thorough. He contacted me ahead of time to find out my level of photography experience, and knowledge, and if I would need to borrow any equipment. I was able to take the time I needed to get some really amazing photographs and learned some new skills as well. I booked a photo tour with Guilio to get some hands on experience with night shooting. What better place to do it than Rome? I am a novice behind the camera and Guilio was the best teacher anyone could ask for. He was incredibly patient and made sure I got the perfect shot before moving on. He knew the best angles and the best locations to get the money shots of beautiful locations throughout Rome. What’s more, it was 40 degrees Fahrenheit outside and pouring rain. Despite the bad weather, he was absolutely committed to ensuring I had the most fulfilling experience. We powered through and I now have beautiful photos to bring home to my family. 10/10! Giulio is a master - a master photographer, a master history teacher, a master guide...there are no limits to what he can and is willing to do for his guests. He adapted one of my tours to cover the "sights" but also brought in a bit of street photography at my request.
