We did the Vegetarian Food Tour in Trastevere, and what a fabulous tour we had with Alessandro. He began guiding us around the south east Santa Cecilia aRea, explaining the history and geography of the area (I had no idea it was such a vast and well populated neighbourhood). We then began the food tour. Tucked away down a quiet street we were taken to Biscottificio Artigiano Innocenti where we tasted a range of their crumbly buttery biscuits. The space is dominated by a massive 16 metre / 52 feet vintage tunnel and conveyor-belt oven. We then crossed over to the North-West around the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere to have an aperitivo at a corner bar, where we learned how to make the perfect spritz (in a champagne glass, not a massive gin balloon). Alessandro explained the difference between Pecorino Romano and that sold elsewhere, as well as what size and shape of pizza to eat when. Our next stop was to try the classic pizza in teglia, including a surprisingly delicious potato pizza, all of which is sold by weight (which goes some way to explaining the locals’ preference for beautifully thin bases so you pay for the premium ingredients on top!) And then we finished with the most beautifully creamy ice cream. We couldn’t necessarily get the flavours we wanted as - having no preservatives - it was made freshly on the premises and some flavours sold out before the next batch was ready. (We were also introduced to the strange practice of adding whipped cream on top!) You could tell it was pukka artisanal gelato because of its structure and lower melting point. And, as it cannot support its own weight, it is sold from pozzetti (recessed, stainless-steel containers - the the gold standard as the ice cream is hidden beneath lids, which protects it from light, air, and temperature fluctuations thereby preserving its density and flavour). I avoided the high towers of ice cream available around a Rome for the remainder of our stay! In between each stop Alessandro pointed out interesting buildings (including the site where zabaglione was created) demonstrating his knowledge snd love for the neighbourhood, as a born and bred a Trasteverini. We were a little uncertain about the cost of the tour. But given Alessandro’s excellent English, his years of experience as a guide, and passion for his home town, I can thoroughly recommend this as an introduction to a fascinating and unique corner of Rome. And since this is a very crowded part of town come dinner time, it was a treat to be able to explore it in relative peace.

An amazing afternoon with our guide in Trastevere. We were only two and met around midday. We enjoyed around two hours of tour. He knows very well Trastevere and showed us amazing places where we got to enjoy delicious Roman cuisine. As he was a local, we felt the experience couldn't get any much more authentic than this. I strongly suggest you book this tour, and personally, I hope I can repeat again soon!
Alessandro was very detailed with his local knowledge of the Trastevere area. We got to experience some great food at places we would have never found and some local drinks we would never have thought to try! He was very polite and well organized, making sure we had seating and we felt very relaxed in his company. Highly recommended!!
Excellent guide! I enjoyed this street food tour, not just for the food but also for the culture & history of Trastevere. Guide was generous with recommendations for my day in Rome, based on my questions & interests. I'll be back in a year, and would repeat.
Loved walking the beautiful streets of Trastevere while trying some delicious food. We absolutely loved everything we tried. Alessandro was so knowledgeable and he shared with us so much history and information about everything. Amazing experience! Thank you. Alessandro!
The guide was great but the pictures of the food and drinks in the Viator ad, write up were deceiving.
Book this! Alessandro was great, knowledgeable and selected classic food options for our small group of 3. It was great to hear about Travestere from a local, and a family run business. Maybe it was because we were a small group… but we were very full by the end!! I didn’t even eat dinner lol it was hot out so we got gelato first, then stopped for local cheese & meats & wine (the Parmesan was AMAZING), then suppli (classic), pizza (3 kinds- my favorite was potato pizza) and last but not least, some wonderful tiramisu. What a fabulous food tour, book it! You won’t be sorry. Thank you Alessandro!
The absolute best food is selected to pair with the Roman history. Wonderful experience!! Francesco was a wonderful guide with a lifetime of experiences.
Very good tour of street food and small restaurants. It was nice to see the neighborhood away from the highly visited and busy places.
We had a wonderful evening evening food tour with Alessandro through the quaint Trastevere neighborhood. Alessandro was very knowledgeable in the area about the food and drink scene, as he was born and raised here. The food was delicious, and he gave us a brief history of each type of food that we enjoyed as we strolled through the neighborhood! He was engaging and kept our kids interest as well as giving a bit of local history about the streets and churches. Highly recommend this tour if you want to experience Roman street food with a real insider!
My tour turned out to be an incredible time because of my guide- Alessandro- who was extremely knowledgeable and gave so many interesting facts about the history of Trastevere along with my food tour. It was a personalized experience and Alessandro went above and beyond to ensure that I received the best time possible! He was kind, funny, and gave insider tips on many restaurants along with authentic food samplers from tiramisu to supply and much more! I cannot say enough how incredible my tour was because of him. If you can get Alessandro as a guide- you are in for an authentic Roman experience in Rome!
Our tour guide, Alessandro, was very knowledgable and passionate about the food scene in Trastevere. It was nice getting to try the neighborhood specialties! Would recommend!
This tour was just great! It was just Alessandro, my wife & I on the tour and over 2 hours we visited loads of mouthwatering spots. All the food was included in the price and everything was delicious: Coffee / Pizza / Aperitivo and Gelato - we were truly spoilt. We were really looking forward to learning more about the neighborhood (Trastavere can get quite touristy quite quickly) but after this tour & armed with a pdf Alessandro sent afterwards we didn’t put a foot wrong. Excellent value & a lot of fun.
We had Alessandro and would highly recommend this tour! We had really struggled to find genuinely local places in room despite a lot of online searches, and Alessandro took us to some great spots that we absolutely wouldn't have found ourselves. He was very knowledgeable and the whole experience was a highlight of our time in Rome and reasonably priced
Good time with good local food.
Great guide and great food!! The walk was fantastic as Trastevere is lively during the afternoon.
Marco was soo good. He knew food and all about Rome. He took us to all local places and also provided an extremely helpful guide as well. Highly recommend this tour if you want good food and history of Travestere.
Alessandro was very knowledgeable about food, but also culture, tradition and history. The food was wonderful!!
A fun and yummy experience led by a highly knowledgeable and friendly guide. Despite our group being small, Alessandro gave of his best. He told us much about the history of Trastevere and its current status as a trendy area with lots of food to be had. Alessandro’s love for the area was evident. The food was pretty good and included meats, cheeses, cookies, pizza, pasta and Aperol spritz. We stopped at a deli/grocery, pizza parlor, bakery. And restaurant. I recommend this tour to all who want to eat, walk around and learn a lot about the area and its food.
Marco is a young and enthusiastic food guide. Solid food tour of Trastevere. As a local, born and bred in Rome, his insights and recommendations for after the tour were spot on.
We were originally supposed to do this food tour yesterday, but after experiencing a couple of airport and luggage issues, we reached out to see if we could switch to tonight instead — and they were incredibly accommodating and made it happen for us. That alone started the experience off on such a positive note! Our guide, Alessandro, was absolutely amazing. He took us to authentic bakeries, cafés, and restaurants that we never would have found on our own. Every stop felt genuine and full of local charm, not touristy at all. The food was incredible, but what really made the tour special was the history and stories Alessandro shared along the way. You could truly feel his passion for Rome, the culture, and the food. This ended up being one of the highlights of our trip so far. I 1000% recommend this tour — you will NOT be disappointed!
Wonderful insight into the Neighbourhood, but don’t eat before you go! The bakery alone was spectacular. Our young guide was a local university student and was the perfect person to show us around. Very knowledgeable.
Awesome food tour run by a native Roman family! Marco was amazing, took us to great spots to try delicious food, and gave us tons of information about the neighborhood, the food, the culture, and answered my million curious questions. I highly recommend this particular food tour!
Francesco is very friendly and shows us some points that we couldn't find by ourselves. Especially the part about cheeses and suppli is perfect. Highly recommend!
Really nice tour. We essentially had a private tour with Marco . It was a nice relaxed pace with a mix of food and history by a local. The food stops were interesting and tasty. Do not have lunch before this as it is the equivalent to a good lunch.
Marco was fantastic and this tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Italy! I would not hesitate to recommend this tour!!
It was lovely to have a local bring you to different restaurants to explore the Trastevere area. Marco provided interesting background information regarding the region and Rome in general. He brought us to some nice spots and we got to try local food. My favourite part was trying different meats and cheeses from a shop that was and still is a family business. The only slight negative is that we were a very small group, it would have been nice as a solo traveller to meet more people.
Alessandro and Marco led our group of 10 through the main areas of Trastevere with lots of stories of growing up in the area and inside info on foodie spots. There was lots of great food and drinks at some very cool Trastevere locations and the whole grouped loved the tour!
We had the best night. Drinks and food were fabulous. Tour guide was so friendly and knowledgeable…. We had an awesome evening. Thanks Rome
On our recent trip to Rome for our 25th wedding anniversary we decided to do this tour, and so very glad we did. Marco was an incredible tour guide, knowledgeable, smart and funny which made our experience all the more memorable. Trastevere is a beautiful area of Rome with intense history and stunning architecture. The food was exceptional from the sweet and delicious Cannoli's to the tasty traditional pizzas and so much more. I would have no hesitation in recommending this tour and if you are lucky enough, Marco will be your guide. Thanks again Marco! You were great company and made our trip to Rome all the more memorable!
My tour guide Alessandro was very knowledgeable. We tried different pizzas, deserts, and drinks. I enjoyed learning about the history!
Alessandro was incredibly knowledgeable and showed us the best holes in the wall of Rome. Highly recommend this experience and Alessandro to anyone who is either new or returning to Rome.
Alessandro was a great guide. He told me all about the neighborhood and we went all around Trastavere and sampled a lot of excellent food. It was an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.
Alessandro did a wonderful job showing us some fabulous local food! We really enjoyed our time with him. He was very knowledgeable!
The food tour was an exclusive experience, with just the two of us and a fanstastic guide (Alessandro). Not only did he know all about Trastevere food, but also a lot of the local history.
Trastevere food tour was one of the highlights of our visit at Rome. They showed great hospitality, were very accommodating of our requests and took us to some amazing local spots to enjoy authentic Roman food, which we would have definitely missed otherwise. Marinara pizza, pistachio tiramisu and local sweets are going to stay in tastebuds forever! Highly recommend.
Alessandro was an excellent guide - knowledgeable and passionate about the local area; he took us to some amazing places so we could sample pizza, biscuits, tiramisu, gelato, meat, fresh mozzarella, and more. Great way to spend a couple of hours, albeit we needed a sit down after all that eating!! Highly recommended
We enjoyed our food tour with Alessandro. He took us to many neat small shops to taste the best of the local food of Trastevere and had a wealth of information about the area. I would highly recommend!
Thank you Alexander! Our street food tour was amazing. Every recommendation was authentic and very delicious. Love it
Angelo was an amazing guide and told us about the history of this beautiful area. He also brought us to some amazing local street eateries. Highly recommend!
Allesandro looked after us for a couple of hours on our small group food tour. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. Pointed out some interesting sites on the walk around Trastevere. We ate a lot of food and even saved some for later. A lovely couple of hours in Rome. Thank you.
Informative guide and great food. Highly recommend giving it a try if you are looking to try different types of Italian street food
Our small group food tour in Rome was an absolute highlight of our trip! From the very beginning, the guide made us feel like we were exploring the city with a local friend. The group size was perfect—small enough to ask questions, hear all the stories, and really enjoy each stop without feeling rushed or crowded.
This was a great tour. It ended up being private as the other two people cancelled. Our host was a local from Trastevere and was so knowledgeable and informative. I learned a lot about this special neighborhood and the foods . The food was delicious from the Aperitivo at the start to the gelato at the end and the snacks and meal in between. I highly recommend this tour!
Alessandro was a wonderful guide. He was patient and knowledgeable. Really showed us the best places in Trastevere! The church we went to was amazing. Thank you so much !
Allessandro was great and shared lots of information. It was nice to be taken to places where locals eat as opposed to the tourists traps. We enjoyed our evening immensely and highly recommend.
Francesco was a fun guide. Very conversational. Knew his local foods! If anything there was too much food. We had to pace ourselves!
Loved the tour, even though I was late Francisco was accommodating as I was the only one in the group. He knows quite a bit about the food and the places we went to were excellent, with very good wine.
Nice walk and interesting stories about Trastevere accompanied with good wine and food. The guide was really professional and friendly. Excellent English skills. Warm recommendations👍
This is by far the best tour to expirence the real feeling of Trastevere. Our guide Alex, a local, is full of knowledge and he conveyed his love for Trastevere to us. We walked, ate and drank as locals. Biggest reccomendation!!
