One of my favorite experiences in Rome. To say that this place was breathtaking would be an understatement. We also had plenty of time and was not to rushed.

Itinerary
This enchanting day trip from Rome begins with a 40-minute bus ride to Hadrian’s Villa. The vastness of Hadrian’s estate is a sight that will surely impress. The Emperor chose to build his residence outside the city in a place rich in water, in order to build the famous Canopus, one of the most preserved sites left in the complex. The statues surrounding this pool of water create stunning reflections on its surface, beautifully surrounded by luscious green gardens
A short bus ride brings you to Tivoli town center – where you will have time to explore and enjoy lunch before the next walking tour
We will leave the alluring ruins of the 2nd century A.D. far behind as we travel on to the 14th century to our second destination, Villa d’Este - one of the most beautiful Renaissance villas in Italy. This splendid palace, with its extraordinary gardens filled with hundreds of fountains, will leave you feeling captivated. Bernini’s monumental Neptune’s Fountain is considered the most impressive, its water jets reaching a height of 10 meters. Not to say that the Central Fountain and the Oval Fountain won’t leave you equally in awe

Marzia was an excellent guide - friendly, efficient, patient and able to answer some detailed, tricky questions without a pause. She also was able to give us information about places not directly related to the tour and was scrupulous in ensuring that her 'flock' were regularly counted! The driver was a master of his bus: smooth and careful in his driving. Never forget a good driver. They're few and far between.
Wonderful tour with Marcia! Very informative and delivered at a perfect pace.
Two beautiful sites - so much history! Our tour guide Marcie? Was both informative and knowledgeable. Great organiser.
Both sites at Tivoli were great. Our guide, Giuseppe, was a local and just a all-around solid human being. If I ever go back, I’ll spend an entire day there as my own complaint was that I didn’t have enough time, especially at Hadrian’s Villa. Plus the town of Tivoli looks worth exploring.
The guide and the tour was excellent. You go to Villa Adriana (Emperor Hadrian’s country residence) and Villa d'Este. Both are fantastic. You could spend a day or more at each place so the tour did a good job of hitting the high points. There is quite a bit of walking on uneven ground and stairs throughout the day and a few people were struggling so be aware. Lunch was okay and not as bad as some people are saying but there are plenty of places to go on your own if you'd like. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Tour taken on 10/31/26. We’ve taken a lot of guided tours and we’ve experienced plenty of guides spoken with accents, but we really had a hard time understand the lady tour guide. It totally killed the experience.. She’s passionate about the subject but the delivery has much to desire. Just our bad luck.
We signed up for a tour of two UNESCO World Heritage sites in Tivoli that are also UN protected Blue Shield sites. Villa Adriana (commissioned by Roman Emperor Hadrian between 118 and 138 AD) and Ville D‘Este (Conceived and commissioned by Cardinal Ippolito II d'Este ll 1509-1572 ). These two magnificent sites are 19 to 21 miles (roughly 30 to 34 kilometers) from Rome which makes it a wonderful day trip. Our tour guide was fantastic. Ferderika from Trumpy tours was knowledgeable, patient, and entertaining. She is also available to do tours in Rome. Keep in mind that it will require walking and stairs. We were told 15000 steps but for me it was actually 10,000 steps. It was worth the effort!!
This was a wonderful trip. Both Villas were interesting for different reasons. Our tour guide has so much information about both villas to share with us. The fountains at Villa D’Este were fabulous.
It is not for sênior people. I had to run after the guide. Too many people. 31. Me and my wife got lost and fortunately we fundo some people to help us to find the grupo.
Allicia was the best tour guide i have experienced in all my travels. She was friendly and very knowledgeable. You are lucky to employ her as a guide!
The experience as a whole was great but at the first stop you do not get enough time or see a lot if you have the guided tour.
Our guide Joseph was the best. He not only was knowledgeable but made the whole experience a valuable one. If only all the guides were like him!!! I hope he know how much we appreciated him!
Our guide was fantastic. This was such an interesting tour. I didn’t know that I would find ruins so fascinating. And Villa D’Este was beautiful. Our guide's knowledge and respect for these places only added to the expedience.
Claudia was an excellent guide- nice to have someone from Tivoli as the guide. Her English is excellent.
Giuseppe was a wonderful guide!! Being a local, he was truly able to add value to the tour. The gardens were beautiful and the ruins were fascinating! Giuseppe had extensive knowledge which he shared clearly and concisely. It was a great day!!
Well organized trip with amazing gardens at Villa D’Este and interesting ruins at Hadrian’s Villa. Lots of steps at Villa D’Este.
This was really interesting. I recently heard about this underground tour of the Trevi fountain. The guide was great. Very knowledgeable and learned a lot about the history as well as what it was like to live back then.
An great tour recommend for everyone the place was amazing and beautiful we loved it must see when in Italy
Wonderful guides! Perfect amount of time in each location. Warm and friendly local vendors and fantastic restaurants. Be on time for the morning meet and bus!
A great day trip from Rome. Hadrian’s Village and Villa D’Este make a great combination. Our guide, Joseph, was excellent! He was very informative and clear on meeting times and directions. We really enjoyed the restaurant he recommended, as well.
The places we went and saw were absolutely beautiful. I think our biggest complaint is that it seemed unorganized. I know 60 people on a tour can be a lot, but to not have tickets pre-purchased and having issues purchasing just seemed unprofessional. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. The bus we took was also at times very hot. The driver finally figured something out on our way back to rome, when he had to pull over and fix something. Knowledgeable guide, beautiful places, just a little unorganized.
Excellent tour of beautiful sites. The gardens were amazing and the tour guide did an excellent job showing us the sites and explaining the history
This was a great day trip! It was a good pace with plenty of time to explore Tivoli. Our guide, Marta, was very knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions for lunch. If you want a good day trip for a break from Rome, this is the perfect spot.
A great experience. Alessia was a great tour guide! Very informative! I would highly recommend it and it wasn’t very long…. 6 hours.
The tour was great, but make sure you wear comfortable shoes and can climb stairs is you want to see all the fountains
Outstanding tour guide. Joseph was both knowledgeable and interesting. The tour sites remarkable and awe inspiring.
We wanted to go on a day trip while we were in Rome and decided on Tivoli based on a recommendation from a friend. It was so worth it! Pick up point was straightforward (but make sure you head towards the parking lot area) and unlike what some of the reviews say here, they try to wait for everyone and leave 5min later than the actual departure time. The tour people were super nice and well organized. And as for the guide, oh were we so lucky. Our tour guide was Joseph! A genuine kind-hearted man who is from Tivoli and truly wants everyone to enjoy the trip and share his love for Tivoli. He has good English and is just super friendly and fun. We really enjoyed listening to what he had to say and he guided us with good pace. I could tell everyone on the trip thoroughly enjoyed the experience because of him. If possible, I would definitely try to get a tour with Joseph! Thank you again for making the tour so memorable~ The weather was absolutely beautiful when we went, so I also recommend going in the middle of October when it’s not too hot. The fountains and villas were just so beautiful. If you have time while in Rome, Tivoli is a beautiful place that gives you a different feel of Italy. lt’s serene, peaceful, and away from the crowds. You really come out of it feeling like every penny was worth it!
Beautiful tour with lots of history and information. Lots of walking on uneven terrain either some hills which may be challenging to those with mobility issues. The Villa has an elevator which helps at that location.
We had a wonderful time. Our guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. I'm so glad my friend recommended the trip.
The convenience of the trip by bus to Tivoli is an advantage of this tour. And having lunch was pleasant. But our tour guide was not good: she spent too much time telling us how beautiful Villa Adriana must have been with marble, and her descriptions of the history and building of the site was weak. She relied on photos on a book, which was not helpful. There was much focus on instructions about where to wait and at what time, repeated over and over. And this repetition, in my opinion, masked our guide’s lack of detailed knowledge of the site, of Hadrian’s life and work, and of Villa d’Este, where she basically disappeared. We also had too little time at the small museum at the site. Disappointing.
Tivoli Gardens were amazing. The tour was done by a local who grew up in the area and was very knowledgeable both about the history of Hadrian’s Villa and the Tivoli estate. I found it very enjoyable.
If you are interested in history this is a great day trip. Th group size wasn't too large and the walking was a good mix of flat and hills.
This is one of my top tours due to the sights. Extraordinary! Highly recommend but be prepared, as they move at a very fast pace. I get it as there is a lot to see and do but Wow! Do NOT purchase the lunch. It was terrible with undercooked pasta and desert was an additional cost, which no one was made aware of by the tour guide or restaurant. Many were quite surprised when they received a bill. Recommend tour but be prepared to move and suggest finding lunch on your own.
Our guide, Giuseppe, was knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. One of his colleagues could not reach the departure point in time but he stepped in and handled two jobs. Well done, Giuseppe! This was the highlight of my trip to Italy. Wonderful things to see and hear.
A pleasant day into the countryside outside of Rome. Hadrians Villa very interesting although more walking than I expected. Villa D’Este also very pretty - too many stairs for my liking.
A packed, slightly rushed 6-hour tour that took in both of Tivoli’s major villas. Our guide, Alicia, was friendly and knowledgeable. The villas were breathtaking; we could have spent a little more time there, but the upside was that we got back to Rome earlier and had the evening to ourselves.
The sites were fabulous to see. The guide was extremely knowledgeable, personable and a pleasure to be with.
Great tour. Enjoyed the guide and others on the tour. Only negative was the lunch. We were not told about additional charges for dessert, etc. until after the meal was served.
I felt the tour guide spent very little time explaining the history of the site. She kept repeating “Imagine”. We had much better experiences at the Colosseum and Borghese Gallery. She kept looking at her watch. I know they are timed entries, but it was annoying.
This is a lovely day trip. The Hadrians site is full of history & quite an architectural challenge for its time. Tivoli is a charming village not to be missed. Plenty of very good dining options. Villa de Este is truly amazing. Stunning gardens & waterfalls. Such a beautiful property This is a worthy day trip
Beautiful walk through ruins at Hadrian’s villa, and then a gorgeous visit to Villa d’Este! Lunch was excellent!
Joseph did a great job Very knowledgeable which made the tour that much better His insights were interesting and his recommendations were extremely helpful
It’s more wonderful than you can imagine. I would highly recommend this tour. A great way to get away from the crowds of Rome for a day.
Incredible photo opportunities during each stop with plenty of time to rest and eat during the break between the two stops in the town of Tivoli
Hadrians Villa and Villa de Este are breathtaking! It’s a nice break from the hustle and bustle of Rome. Our guide, Joseph, was kind and knowledgeable!
Tour guides were knowledgeable and the bus driver was very good. Great to get out of the city and see such amazing architecture, engineering and beauty from antiquity.
Nice trip to Tivoli on air conditioned bus. Joseph our tour guide was very informative and answered all of our questions. Both of the sites were great.
Avoid this company! The communication is horrible they send you one direction in your confirmation email for the meeting place and that takes you to the bus station. But the meeting place is elsewhere and the correct information is sent in what’s app. And if you do not have that set up you miss the corrected address. They only call you last minute and expect you to be able to get to the new address in 5 minutes. No refunds and also no trip very sad. Will never book with them again. Just an email, no refunds!
