Itinerary
Your professional guide will take you on a wonderful journey through time and will tell you stories about the construction of these impressive buildings and scandals that accompanied the famous Roman families of that time. A unique occasion to known one of the most appreciated, peaceful and historical area at the roman time, very close to the chaotic capital of the roman empire, Upon arrival your guide will illustrate Villa Adriana, the most beautiful Imperial villa, designed and built by Emperor Hadrian at the beginning of the 2nd century AD in a unique setting of gardens and swimming pools. Then you will proceed with Villa D’Este, charming villa with rich Renaissance fountains, water features, waterfalls and incomparable Italian garden. The two villas are on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
Villa Adriana, the most beautiful Imperial villa, designed and built by Emperor Hadrian who did not like the Palatine palace in Rome, so during the last years of his reign he ruled the empire from Tivoli. Truly no emperor appreciated the palace created by his predecessors so much, but Hadrian detested the crowding, promiscuity, intrigue and chaos of Rome, where he resided as little as possible, traveling as much as possible.
Villa d'Este is one of the most notable and refined examples of Renaissance culture. By virtue of its innovative project and the creativity of the architectural components of the park (fountains, ornamental basins, etc.), it represents a unique example of a sixteenth-century Italian garden. Villa d'Este, one of the first gardens of wonders, served as model and had a decisive influence on the development of gardens in Europe. The complex, consisting of the palace and the garden, was built by Pirro Logorio on behalf of the Ferrarese cardinal Ippolito II d'Este who, having become governor of the Lazio city in 1550, wanted a residence suited to his new status. the structure forms an irregular quadrilateral and covers an area of approximately 4.5 hectares. The plan of the villa is irregular as the architect was forced to use some parts of the pre-existing monastic building.

Muhammad was a wonderful guide. He has so much knowledge of history as well as the local vegetation that he basically gave us more information than a college professor could. I have mobility issues and he found the simplest ways for me to walk to see everything and when we had requests he pivoted immediately to accommodate them. He is INCREDIBLE. Do not miss this opportunity
We spent almost 2 hours with our amazing guide Monica at Hadrians Villa. She was exceptionally knowledgeable. We then went to Villa D’Este and spent another 90 minutes there. It was a very in depth experience with fabulous things to see. Absolutely recommend this trip
Car pick up and return to hotel was good. Driver spoke very little English. He offered no information, unless asked. Just dropped us off, at each site, handed us a map. We were on our own, guideless. In fact got lost at Adrian’s villa. Nice sites to visit . Nice to see a tivoli countryside. Nice getaway from Rome. The getyourguide tour was just a hired car to pick us up, drop at sites and return to hotel. No guide at all. Not what I expected.
Monica was a wonderful guide. Very personable and friendly. Adam great driver.
Great historical perspective on Ancient Rome. Architecture design and structure is impressive. The fountains are spectacular. Archaeological recovery work is amazing. Take something to drink during the tour
This private tour was definitely worth the extra cost. Both our driver and our guide were courteous and professional. We were picked up on time (and very much appreciated being met at our hotel). We had plenty of time to enjoy both sites without feeling rushed. Our guide was very knowledgable and answered all our questions. We especially liked the tour of Hadrian’s villa, as that site was truly exceptional from an historical perspective. The tour does not include a lunch stop, so be sure to have breakfast that morning! We did stop for something to drink, but there was no time to have a snack. (We were aware of this, so we are not complaining. It is simply something to note.)
Hadrian’s Villa is amazing, we learned so much and it was so special to be there before it opened. Our amazement continued with a gorgeous visit to Villa d”Este. The gardens are a work of art with beautiful views of the surrounding area. Catherine and Fabio took great care of us. Catherine has so much knowledge.
Excellent tour guide - she had lots of detailed and interesting knowledge and clearly loved Ancient Rome. Super helpful throughout, chilled pace not strenous.
Great experience overall. Our guide Fabio was very friendly and knowledgeable. Pick up was on time, highly recommend this tour
Fabio was an excellent extremely knowledgeable guide who knew not only exquisite details and history of Villa Adriana and Villa di Este but also of Roman history in general. Picked up from our hotel with a quick ride to Villa Adriana we were there before others arrived giving us a very private visit. Highly recommended.
Mohammed was exceptionally knowledgeable, kind, and attentive. He was able to make the tour interesting to adults, as well as keep the attention of children. That is an art. Highly recommended.
The gardens are very scenic, beautiful lavishing. Adrian Villa very spectacular. One can imagine what it would be in their heyday.
Great tour. Fabio taught us so much about the history of both Villas. He tailored the tour, as much as he could, to my husband’s disability. Driver was great.
Natalia was our driver and she was welcoming, courteous and drove smoothly. Monica was our guide and her knowledge was exemplary. She did not rush us, loved her topic, answered any questions and engaged us in conversation. The tour was a fantastic break from Rome's business and complemented many of it's attractions adding to our understanding of Roman history. Highly recommend.
Our guide was incredible. He was so informative and we learned so much about Rome, the Empire, the culture, and the history. We 100% recommend this, it is a must do experience!!
Outstanding tour that gets you to the highlights with a very knowledgeable guide (Fabio) and great driver. Great communication before and during the tour. Perfect way to see these sites. Do this tour!
We had an amazing time visiting these place. Our driver was prompt at picking us up from our hotel. Very comfortable 4-door mid-sized sedan car as well—perfect for 2 in the backseat (having 3 people would of been tight. If that is your case, as for a bigger car). The tour guide accompanied us in the car, pointing out a few interesting details as we were leaving Rome. It is about 30 minutes outside of Rome but can be longer depending on traffic. The guide was VERY informative and really had a passion about the information he was telling us. We never felt rushed—in fact we went over the estimate tour time because we took our time enjoying the sites. We stopped for an afagato in between the 2 sites and that was perfect. It is a lot of walking and steps so be mindful about shoes. Also bring water and I would suggest a sun umbrella for shade as well.
Our guide was excellent. He spent plenty of time providing historical context that made the trip informative and enjoyable. The driver was professional and courteous.
Giuliano was a wealth of information and a very pleasant gentleman. He gave his thorough and traditional talks, but also had prompt answers to all of our questions. His passion for archeology, history and art was refreshing and we learned so much from him.
We had a wonderful day away from thebisy streets of Rome. Our guide Serevino and drive Pino we accommodating in every way. Serevino was so knowledgeable and flexible; we were able to go at a comfortable pace. When visiting Rome, don’t miss a trip to Tivoli, an easy drive from the city!
I enjoy learning about the history of the sites we’re visiting, our guide was very knowledgable and happy to share his knowledge with us.
Such an interesting day! Seeing the ruins of one estate and imagining the past is inspiring. Then seeing another intact estate with beautiful waterfalls and exquisite landscaping. Perfect day to understand the beauty, which is Rome.
It was nice to venture outside of Rome to see Villa d’Adriana and Villa d’Este. With a little imagination you can see how spectacular Villa d’Adriana must have been. The architecture of the various structures was amazing. It’s amazing to see the engineering minds that created the heating of the various terme or cooling of the emperor’s bedroom. The foundation of luxuries we are used to today. The gardens at Villa d’Este were amazing. I can only imagine it being more beautiful in the spring when flowers are in bloom. My guide was terrific and very knowledgeable.
Awesome tour .. history well preserved!! Fabio was very knowledgeable tour guide! Thank you for the experience!
Worth it! Get out of hectic Rome and enjoy the quiet charm of Tivoli. Booking was easy, door to door pick up, driver and guided tour. Villa Adriano was on my must-see list, and it was incredible to walk among the ruins of empire. Villa d’-Este is a Renaissance treasure, the garden an absolute marvel of engineering and fantastical beauty. Our guide also took us to see the ancient area of Tivoli by the temple of Sibilla. If you love history and architecture and art, put this tour on your list!
Our last day of touring in Rome and we were not too sure what to expect for the day based on what we knew about the 'Este's & Hadrian. Fabio and our driver showed up early and let us know it would be a short drive to Tivoli. Upon arrival, Fabio scored our tickets ensured we had brought water as it would be morning walk in the outdoors, guided us to the rest rooms and once everything was in order, off we went. Fabio is very well versed in his knowledge about Hadrian, his villa and ancient Rome. Fabio had a very unique way of closing may gaps in our knowledge of ancient Rome that put this tour over the top for us, though most/much of the grounds are in ruins, through Fabio's information, we could visualize the structures as they were, and see the ancients walking the grounds performing their daily tasks and engaged in good conversation. Simply magical. Next off we went to V'Este's and Fabio once again gave us great insight to the people, the logic and the reasoning behind all that we saw. Though the Frescoes were cool, the gardens are where the magic was for us. It should be known that there are some very dramatic "Up" and "Down" paths that need to be traversed and you should be in decent shape to complete the gardens! We lived to tell the tale and were God smacked by the engineering that was created to make the fountains and waterfalls all function. Though simply amazing, there is nothing simple about the place. Excellent tour. money very well spent, ensure that you ask for Fabio, because he truly made the tour go from good to great!
Our tour was delightful, full of informative history and time to reflect on the sights. Our guide Severino was helpful in every way and we would take another tour like this any time!
Guide was exceptional and driver was very safe so I’m not sure what to say Really you want more it was fabulous
The guide was interesting, full of information & engaging. Took a lot of photos of me to save the memories. Villa d'Este was spectacular and he was able to get golf card to get back. A big help.
My spouse and I spent a fantastic day touring the ancient ruins of Hadrian’s Villa and the Stunning Villa and Gardens of Villa d’Este in Tivoli. We were met, early morning, at our hotel by Fabio (our guide for the day) and Adam (our driver who handled all our luggage and logistics). Our guide Fabio, an archeologist by training, spoke excellent English and was both extremely knowledgeable about the history of the Villas but also provided a very helpful primer & tutorial of the very impressive building and landscape architectural achievements at both sites. Fabio demonstrated deep expertise and passion for his subjects. While the scale and preservation of the almost two thousand year old ruins of Hadrian’s Villa were truly impressive, my spouse and I were even more captivated by the magnificent terraced gardens and numerous waterfalls at the Villa d’Este which were simply stunning. We could have spent the whole afternoon exploring the house and gardens. One note of caution that I would note is the steepness of the gardens at Villa d’Este requires you to be in reasonably good level of fitness to navigate the descent down into the gardens and back up to the Villa. At the end of the tour, we were dropped back to the train station in Rome for the next part of our trip (which was to Florence). It was an educational and most enjoyable day!
What a great day!!! Mohammed was an excellent guide. He is very knowledgeable and made this ruin come alive. And then we went to villa D’Este and we’re in awe over the fountains. This was a wonderful day.
We had booked the small-group tour of Hadrian's Villa and the Villa d'Este, with the maximum group size of six. It turned out that the three of us were the only people who booked the tour that day, so quite understandably they provided a sedan instead of a small van. My wife and I were traveling with our 16-year-old grandson, who is 6'5", so we felt a bit scrunched in the back seat. However, we were just grateful that the company honored the reservation. Our guide, Fabio, who rode in the front passenger seat, provided very interesting commentary on the way to and from Tivoli (about an hour's drive each way). The tour as described promised services of a local guide on for three hours in Tivoli, so being able to converse with Fabio for all five hours was a real bonus. He was a superb guide. His English was excellent and his training as an archeologist shone through, especially at Hadrian's Villa, a vast and magnificent site well worth seeing. We went on a brilliant very warm Friday (temps in low 90s), and were virtually the only people on the grounds–an amazing experience. Covering the grounds requires quite a bit of strenuous walking (especially the uphill hike at the beginning), so seniors and those with health issues ought to be advised. The Villa d'Este was a real thrill for me, being a fan of the music of Franz Liszt. Liszt spent a good part of his later years at the Villa, and wrote some very innovative piano pieces inspired by its cypresses and incredible fountains. I had had no idea just how grandiose and beautiful the Villa is, and was just bowled over. Fabio took us through the villa, the gardens, and the vast and varied fountains providing fascinating background information. Again, there were just a few visitors besides us. After the Villa, we enjoyed gelato before heading back to town (even though we were running a bit late). This tour exceeded my wildest expectations, and was indeed one of the top experiences of our visit to Rome. (Hadrian's Villa was our grandson's absolute favorite.)
Very punctual and polite driver, enthusiastic guide who provided lots of information and interesting facts, beautiful villas. A wonderful trip.
Lifelike and awesome. Took my breath away! Traveled in September 1988 and will never forget this tour that I took on my own. I was staying in Rome, at the time, and this only added to my enjoyment of Italy. This was in September of 1988.

Perfect, perfect, perfect. The guide was so friendly, and he really loved everything he was showing me. My tour included both Hadrian's Villa and the Villa d'Este, but because I was so much more interested in the former, he customized the schedule so we could spend the whole time among the ruins of the emperor's villa and he gave me an ultra-thorough tour.

We went with Enjoy Rome Tours and our guide Giuseppe was absolutely First Class ! This was my third trip to Villa D’Este and my wife’s first. Being February it was cold unusually so but it was also deserted and we had both D’Este & Villa Adriano to ourselves. Giuseppe lives locally and suggested a fantastic local restaurant family run and the freshest al fungi pasta I have had in Italy ( this being my 4th visit ) .

Tour guide was really good! Hadrians Villa was so interesting and the town was fun to walk around.

We had an absolutely great time on this tour! Donald was our tour guide for both Hadrian's Villa and D'Este was fantastic and very knowledgeable. He has a lot of experience of both locations and it really made our tour exceptional. Our driver was Stephan and he had a treat of pastries and water waiting for us at the van after our Hadrian's tour. That was nice! I would not hesitate to take this tour again!

Our tour guide, Donald, has been guiding groups through Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este for many years, and it shows in his practiced and engaging delivery. The short drive outside of Rome is well worth the time to visit these two wonderful sites in a half-day tour.

half day tour was ok Hotel pickup goodfriendly driver daughter a little sketchy on some details little shy Tivoli tour guide was informative good sense of humour maybe bored tour promised 3 hours only got 2 with guide left on own at villa d'este without garden explanation

Driver had zero English, guide at Villa d'Este was adequate, not great. Overall, we'd do it again.

This was a wonderful tour. Our guide was interesting and had a great sense of the history of the area and a great sense of humor. We were driven in a very comfortable private limousine from Rome and back. Our only wish was that we could have spent a little more time at the Villa D'Este gardens.

Our guide was very special! However, I am not sure this tour was worth the money.

Valuable if you value and know Emperor Hadrian. There must be prior knowledge since the guide does not know it well
An absolute tourist trap! A short walk through a forest on forest and stone floor. You can only see a waterfall. 10€ admission per person. An outrage. Better go for a nice meal or a coffee in Rome for the money.
Visite privée entre amies. Belle chimie avec notre guide Fabio. Sites enchanteurs, histoire d’Hadriien et du cardinal. Musique de l’orgue hydraulique, magnifiques fontaines. Une promenade à travers le temps. Anecdotes. Merci Fabio
Unfortunately I was exchanged last minute (the day before) my private Tur for a collective one where the personal connection with the guide is lost and the diverse interests make the visit more tense. Added to the fact that one of the participants had had an accident the day before so we could not tour the magnificent place in the way I would have liked. The guide also bad... just wanted to finish fast, little historical context of the Emperor and his Villa. I understand and regret what happened. I hope that in the next opportunity we can have a magnificent experience.
