Itinerary
This enchanting day trip from Rome begins with a 40-minute bus ride to Hadrian’s Villa. The vastness of Hadrian’s estate is a sight that will surely impress. The Emperor chose to build his residence outside the city in a place rich in water, in order to build the famous Canopus, one of the most preserved sites left in the complex. The statues surrounding this pool of water create stunning reflections on its surface, beautifully surrounded by luscious green gardens.
We will leave the alluring ruins of the 2nd century A.D. far behind as we travel on to the 14th century to our second destination, Villa d’Este - one of the most beautiful Renaissance villas in Italy. This splendid palace, with its extraordinary gardens filled with hundreds of fountains, will leave you feeling captivated. Bernini’s monumental Neptune’s Fountain is considered the most impressive, its water jets reaching a height of 10 meters. Not to say that the Central Fountain and the Oval Fountain won’t leave you equally in awe.

Lovely time. Alicia was a great guide.
Delightful day visiting Hadrian's villa and Villa d'Este. Our guide was wonderful, giving us lots of fascinating information in a fun way, and keeping us alert and engaged. Could Not be happier with our guide and the tour.
We had a wonderful experience on our tour to Tivoli! Everything was very well organized, and the trip was enjoyable from beginning to end. A special mention to our guide, Alessia, who was extremely helpful, attentive, friendly, and punctual. She made sure everything went smoothly and was always available to assist us. Her professionalism and kindness made the experience even more special. Highly recommended!
Excellent experience on our first visit to Rome. LOTS of walking and steps .
An amazing tour. The guide did a good job of taking care of the group and ensuring we got ton see the best features at the best possible timed, before the other crowds arrived. The lunch should have included dessert.
Alicia was the best!! Very knowledgable, friendly and welcoming. She was less like a guide and more like a good friend sharing with us her love of her hometown and its history. (She grew up in Tivoli!) an excellent tour!
It was a very informative and enjoyable tour. Everything was so positive and well organized. A special thank you to the best guide, Alicia❤️, and the best driver, Tony! ❤️ Thank you to the tour operators for giving us such a wonderful and beautiful day. Tamila Eristavi Georgia 🇬🇪
Wonderful experience! The guide was very knowledgeable. The sites were beautiful and beyond my expectations. Highly recommend!
Well worth a visit, we really enjoyed this trip. The day flowed with ease and our guide Alessia was very knowledgeable. Had a lovely lunch in Tivoli at Osteria restaurant right outside the villa entrance, which was sensational and great value. Highly recommend this trip.
Very informative, beautiful location Guide, Alicia, explained things very well and was very friendly clear. I liked the pace of the guide, not super slow like some tours are. She also gave good suggestions for lunch in Tivoli.
Excellent guide! Highly recommend
Great tour. We didn't do the lunch option, but plenty of restaurants to choose from once in Tivoli. Our guide Marcia was awesome. Just know the meeting place is on the side of the street where a bus or car can pull into from the traffic lanes.
Had a beautiful day and wonderful tours at Hadrian's Villa and Villa D'Este with Alessia. Alessia was so knowledgeable and passionate about all the history making it come alive for our group. Highly recommend
Alessia, our tour guide is a delightful person and excellent tour guide. She grew up and is local to Tivoli so she is able to share the rich history and stories from the area. Thank you Alessia!!
Great day out very informative. Some very nice photo opportunities and great tour guide.
Highly recommended 👌. Guide was informative kept us on track.
Our guide Alicia was amazing she had such passion and knowledge of the history. She was helpful and accommodating with my older mothers mobility issies
Fantastico tour - loved Hadrians Villa & loved Villa d’Este even more. It’s been on my bucket list for a long time. Alas, the heat meant I wasn't able to explore all terraces but it was all worth it. Tivoli also very pretty hill town.
Great tour with an exceptional tour guide who was very knowlwdgeable and friendly. The villas were amazing. Lunch was ok next time id opt not to include.
Omg what an amazing experience
Elisa was amazing! She gave us lots of information as well as a lot of free time.
Excellent value for money. Perfect for those who love history. Really small group of 10, atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Alessia, our guide, was incredible. She was very informative, and gave excellent direction with regards to timings and meeting points. With travel from and to Rome, this trip lasted 6 hours. We really enjoyed this day trip. As history lovers, this was perfect for us. Would highly recommend.
Wonderful guide Elissa! 😊 she was personal and knowledgeable
Lots of walking and steps because of the landscape of the 2 villas. Joe aka Giuseppe was a wonderful experienced guide.
Our guide did a great job looking after us on a very hot day. She was very knowledgeable and passionate about these exciting historical sites. It was also good to have a break from Rome.
Alessia was a wonderful guide! Highly recommend this itinerary!
Historical context was totally missed. I wish there was more info provided re. Roman empire at the time of Hadrian. Seeing ruins of the villa is nice but without the background info - the the great extent - it is meaningless..
Alessia is very knowledgeable friendly and helpful the best tour we have done in Roma the Tivoli and we have done many tours this is by far the best !!! Grazie Alessia
Very nice guide in both villas.
Our guide was so knowledgeable. She really took her time to explain facts and details. We had a great time!
There is a lot of ground to cover. The guide, Martia, was great but you need to pay attention, be on time, and move at a fairly fast pace. The lunch was substantial and good with pitchers of wine on the table.
Hadrians Villa needed more historical context. Huge place. Should have given more information. Expensive for what we got. Rushed.
Very nice overview of both the antique (Emperor Hadrian) and more contemporary (papal times) villas in the area. Knowledgeable guide and friendly atmosphere.
A wonderful tour and so worth having a knowledgeable guide like Giuseppe take us to both of these incredble locations.
Truly unique places away from the hustle and bustle of Roma. Must see! You won't be disappointed! And it's only 30 minutes outside the city. Guide, as usual, was fantastic!!!
Tour & Guide was fantastic and informative and had a terrific and great time! I enjoyed it thoroughly and had a wonderful time and learned a lot! :o) Tour Guide explained everything clearly and thoroughly and was very knowledgeable and was always glad to answer questions! :o) I was so glad the fountains were working this December in Villad'Este, Hadrian's Villa & Museum was quite impressive too!
A convenient way to see Hadrian’s Villa from Rome. It was good to have a knowledgeable and friendly guide but it would have been nice to have just a little bit more time at Hadrian’s (there is so much to see!). The visit to Tivoli was nice - we would have not seen Villa D’Este if not for the tour. The fresco rooms of the villa were just stunning but unfortunately we were rushed through them to get out to see/hear the organ fountain. It would have made more sense to have less time for lunch in Tivoli and to have started the walk through of Villa D’Este earlier. Small group of 15 was good.
Hadrian Villa is amazing. Villa d'Este is beautiful. Alessia, our guide is very nice, helpful and knowledgabke about the sites. Overall a wonderful tour.
Detailed tour of both sites. Pace was not rushed. Would recommend visiting these places with a guide to get the most out of the experience!
Two beautiful gardens and buildings! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and gave is wonderful insight into how Romans lived throughout the centuries. FYI- a lot of walking, nice pace, and alot of stairs up and down.
The tour lady is knowledgeable and the pace was good. Both Village Adriana and Village d’Este were great to visit. The only thing we didn’t enjoy too much was the lunch. The restaurant was old and the food quality was so so. On our way to the restaurant there were many beautiful curb side patio sitting restaurants. It would be nice to have lunch in one of those.
There is a lot of walking and some stairs and hills to climb. May not be good for those that have mobility issues Our guide was very nice and knowledgeable but sometimes hard to understand
5 stars for the guide and the organization of the tour. However, do NOT book the lunch. Others must have seen this in reviews, so just four of us were led like lambs to our fate. A restaurant that has no other customers at lunchtime is a bad sign. And then came the carafe of warm white wine with small flies floating in the bottom. When I pointed this out with a laugh, suddenly the owner had no English and poor eyesight. The red was ok. Micro portions of uninspired fare. A smiling offer of espresso, without mentioning it would cost more, but we had been warned of that. I've traveled in Asia where food is always included and is fine, so I naively clicked on the lunch option. Now I realize all the incentives are for a disreputable operator to take your money and give substandard fare. Anyways, it was memorable. Also, don't get to the meeting point early. It's a barren metro station by a military base in a sketchy neighborhood east of Termini. I can see it's practical for leaving the city to the east, though.
A good opportunity to see both villas. Local guide was knowledgeable and fun. Convenient booking arrangements and pick up. Maybe a little information on Tivoli town (eg a page with map and key sights marked) for those not availing of lunch as we had about 1.5 hours here to explore. Not a big deal as I just used google maps and found my own way around- but just a minor improvement would be a map and key information on it. Many thanks to our guide and drivers.
Hadrian's Villa was good, Villa d'Este was magnificent. Our coach driver and guide did a good job. We booked the option including lunch. The food was dreadful. One member of the party described it as 'School canteen food'
These two sites are amazing but very different. Learned a great deal about the Romans and how they were influenced by the Greeks in their building and ingenuity. The Villa D'Este was a former convent and has the best fountains and gardens I have ever seen. Not to be missed. This day tour was exceptional. Had a great guide.
The tour was excellent. We had thought about doing it on our own and from what I read it was very difficult to do both places on your own so we opted for the Viator, which was very convenient. Only issue was that there were two rotations listed on the initial ticket to meet at.- Castro Pretorio and Ponte Mammolo. We opted for Castro Pretorio but when we exited the subway, there were three exits. So we stood by the one that had the large parking garage, which seemed to be the one that most people stood by. We found the Director and boarded the van. Once we get to Hadrian’s Villa, the tour guide met us there her name was Alicia She was phenomenal! The time we spent in the town of Tivoli-which was good however -we had lunch on our own at noon, but we did not realize that all the shops closed at 1 o’clock and reopen at 4:30 pm. Something to keep in mind if you want to shop in the town Tivoli! Otherwise great tour!
Hadrian's villa and Villa de Este with its beautiful gardens and waterfalls was devine. The Tivoli gelato and pizza were excellent. Our guide was upbeat and mindful of the needs of his group. He stopped in the shade for discussions which made a difference in the heat.
How enormous the villa must have beenThe waterfalls and fountains at villad'este were amazing. A great day out
