Small Group Tour: Caracalla Roman Baths

The guide (Riccardo) was very kind and knowledgeable. He encouraged us to ask questions and let him know if we had any questions at all. The meeting point as described in the tour information was a bit general, but Riccardo was easy to contact and help came to meet me. I recommend this tour if you want to better understand the Baths of Caracalla without being overwhelmed or herded around too much. It was a very enjoyable tour.

Ricardo’s tour was great! So much more than I thought it would be, very informative, he really knows the history and was great at explaining and answering questions. He was also very helpful in teaching us how to use the buses. 10/10 if you’re wanting to see these beautiful ruins, don’t go without Ricardo!

Our guide, Riccardo, was fantastic. We took a guided tour of the Baths of Caracalla and the Circus Maximus, and he explained the history of Rome in a very engaging way, giving us the context we needed to fully understand the Baths of Caracalla. We had a really enjoyable conversation throughout the entire tour. We finished at the Circus Maximus, where he gave us lots of recommendations on what to do and where to eat, all tailored to our tastes. You can really tell that Riccardo is passionate about history and about his work, his enthusiasm is contagious!

If you take this tour without a guide you may find yourself staring blankly at walls and reading long bland texts on signs, fatigued in the heat and wondering why you are here. Our tour with Riccardo made the Baths of Caracalla come alive with stories, insights and appreciation of the historic site. The immensity of the structures and the beauty of the mosaics cannot be perceived with mere photographs. We found ourselves empathizing with people from the past and chuckling about human foibles in those times, realizing that human nature may not have changed that much over the centuries even though the architecture has. And the site is not crowded like the others in Rome. We highly recommend this tour.

This was fascinating. We loved our tour guide, Ricardo. It turned out that no one else signed up, so we had a private tour. He was so knowledgeable about history, and my husband and he had great conversation about all sorts of history. Fascinating to see a slice of ancient Roman life.

Ricardo was truly one of the best guides we’ve ever had anywhere. He is intensely intelligent, but easy going; knowledgeable, polite but friendly- the exact kind of person you want to spend the morning talking with. He is well credentialed- history degree and a master’s. We booked a small group but ended up with a private tour, a real plus. Caracalla Baths is slightly outside the main old Roman center, but well worth the trip and the tour. It was a spectacularly gorgeous day weather-wise, and the tour was extremely interesting. Riccardo is so personable, he made it superb. We can’t recommend his tour highly enough - take it if you can. It’s an attraction of Rome that most tourists miss - most of the people there today were locals. It was well worth our time.

I got lucky and ended up getting a small group of just me. Riccardo was very knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the Baths and the surrounding area. He really did an excellent job painting the whole story of how the Baths fit into Ancient Rome and in a fun way too. If you're looking to tour the baths, this is the way to do it!

Ricardo, our guide gave a fantastic tour of the Baths of Caracalla. He pointed out architectural features and purposes of each section of the bathes. We were able to learn so much about the cultural lives of the early Romans (who knew the baths have a massage room and a library!). The mosaics were beautiful. As a bonus, Ricardo took us by the Circus Maximus on the way out. A GREAT tour by an incredible guide!
