Fabulous 3-hour skip the line tour with guide (08:30 am start) of the Vatican museum, Sistine chapel and St Peter's Basilica. Comfy shoes essential. Get there early (coffee shop around corner to grab take away). Be sure to stay at office after checking in if you are in a private tour! Desk ladies did not tell me. There are other large groups leaving from same office. We had a steady paced tour that was led by a delightful guide who was very knowledgeable. Thank you. All the better that two persons had hip issues and this enabled us to go more slowly. Yay. This was my second visit in two years and was fabulous again. Skip the line and private tour is the way to see this fabulous city.

Itinerary
Start your experience by meeting your host or, if included, your expert tour guide, who will provide your skip-the-line tickets and help you access the Vatican Museums. For guided options, headsets are included for clear commentary as you explore some of the museum’s most celebrated highlights, from the Pinecone Courtyard to the Pio-Clementino Museum and the stunning Vatican Galleries. Your guide will bring the collections to life with stories and insights along the way. If you select the ticket-only option, your host will escort you to the entrance and you will then visit the museums independently.
Discover the Cortile della Pigna, a striking open-air courtyard named after its monumental bronze pinecone.
Discover the Vatican Pinacoteca, home to an extraordinary collection of paintings by masters such as Raphael, Leonardo da Vinci, and Caravaggio. Please note that this section is not always included in the tour, as the itinerary may vary depending on the visitor flow inside the Museums.
Discover the Pio Clementino Museum, home to the celebrated Laocoön masterpiece, whose dramatic beauty is said to have inspired Michelangelo.
Visit the Gregorian Etruscan Museum and explore a fascinating collection of artifacts that reveal the rich history and culture of the ancient Etruscan civilization. Please note that this section is not always included in the Guided Tour option, as the itinerary may vary depending on the visitor flow inside the Museums.
Uncover the Gallery of Maps, a remarkable Vatican gallery decorated with richly detailed frescoed maps that celebrate the geography and beauty of Italy, along with other iconic sections such as the Gallery of Candelabra and the Gallery of Tapestries.
Admire the Raphael Rooms, a series of extraordinary frescoed chambers renowned for their beauty and for masterpieces such as The School of Athens, one of Raphael’s most celebrated works. Please note that this section is not always included in the Guided Tour option, as the itinerary may vary depending on the visitor flow inside the Museums.
Your experience continues with a visit to the Sistine Chapel, one of the world’s most famous and awe-inspiring landmarks. Marvel at Michelangelo’s extraordinary frescoes, from the Creation of Adam to the dramatic Last Judgment, and take in the beauty and significance of this sacred space. As the chapel is a place of worship, silence and respectful behavior are required during the visit. Seeing it in person is a truly unforgettable highlight of any Vatican experience.
IF OPTION SELECTED: Your experience culminates at St. Peter’s Basilica, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture. From the Sistine Chapel, your guide will lead you through a reserved fast-track entrance to the church, avoiding the usual long lines. Inside, marvel at Michelangelo’s exquisite Pietà, Bernini’s grand Baldacchino, and the awe-inspiring dome. Should the basilica be closed, your tour will include an extended exploration of the Vatican Museums instead.

Reviews
The Vatican tour was great. I was amazed at the amount of historical treasures and museums inside the city. Our tour guide was sensitive to our needs and helped extensively with assessability on stairs especially those without handrails by waiting and assisting. The Sistine chapel was so over the top. I loved the coffins and the carvings on them. I think my favorite was coming thru the hallways with the windows open so one could see the museum artifacts while eying the backdrop of the Vatican grounds. Thank you for being sensitive to our needs and providing expertise on the history of this amazing place.
Great experience, would highly recommend. The skip line comes in very handy as it was crowded in November. Our guide was funny and knowledgeable
Lindy was a fun and knowledgeable guide. The time flew by and I learned so much.
We had a wonderful tour. Our guide was fun and knowledgeable. It was beautiful and we knew that before we went but our guide really went into depth and gave us a wonderful memory
Would TOTALLY recommend this experience- totally worth the price! We skipped literally everyone waiting in line, and walked straight through security. Jane was our host and she was straight to the point and right on time!
A fully immersive experience. Our guide was a fountain of history the artwork overpowers the senses.. Another successful Viator experience.
Our guide Aliaksandr was amazing! He hardly stopped sharing his knowledge the whole 3 hours! It was my second time and I learned so much more from Aliaksandr than I did the first time. HIGHLY recommend skip the line on this tour!
Ricardo was a really lovely guy, he was very informative and made the whole experience thoroughly enjoyable.
You will not learn anything about the art…. Only personal feelings that your tour guide has about other countries. And don’t expect to see any of the famous pieces of art….. instead you will stand by a bathtub and talk about the hygiene of other countries. Even though you’re in a room full of Michelangelo’s famous pieces. My suggestion is just do the tour on your own.
Very informative and a good pace. Alex was charming and quite knowledgeable about art and architecture.
The tour and guide were great! Lots of information was provided. It felt a bit rushed but that may have been complicated by the crowds and numerous tours jostling for position, but that was of course beyond the control of the tour operator. Would do again. Thanks!
Our tour guide Roberta was excellent! So knowledgeable and personable. Fascinating to see and hear - one of my favorite museum tours ever. Thank you Roberta for making it so special
Excellent! We had visited the Sistine Chapel and Basilica years ago... nothing changed in 30 years, but the museums are new and terrific.
Easy to get all pertinent information!
Great overview of the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel. Plan on standing or walking the entire 2 hours.
Alex was an amazing tour guide. He was so knowledgeable of the Vatican museums and the entire place. I’ve been there 5x and I still think it was worth it to have a great guide to point out new things.
Alex was great! Very knowledgeable and funny. I enjoyed his personality and genuineness.
Alex did a great job, very knowledgeable
Fred was excellent. He was knowledgeable, funny, informative and respectful of the other tour groups. There were several flights of stairs but he took his time making sure everyone was comfortable with the pace. So much to see and I feel like he touched on as much as he could within the tour time. We had a couple sets of free time to wander and that was nice. Fred gave clear directions on where to meet after these periods of free time.
Great company to book for the different travel plans. Our guide was very knowledgable. She knew where to go for sure.
Excellent tour guide so informative, absolutely loved the Vatican visit most especially St.Peters Basilica
Alessio was super kind and helpful getting us in the door and answering any questions we had. Highly recommend.
Not alot of direction on getting thru the Vatican. Could have used a map. Should have recommended people get the audio. Never found the audios in rhe app.
Good communications from the company and well-organized. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour we had with Alex. He's knowledgeable about the places and objects, and he was also able to illuminate them with interesting facts and a sense of humor, which we appreciated. Thanks so much!
This is a great tour! It was very educational and I learned a lot! Our tour guide was very nice and had a great attitude interacting and getting to know us all as she did the tour without distracting from the beautiful art and sculptures. I would totally do this tour again! Also the agency helped us find our tour group which was amazing!
Alex was a fun and knowledgeable guide for this Skip the line tour. This was our first tour after arriving in Rome and we were happy to be able to hear him thru the ear pieces as he navigated thru the crowds which were pretty thick even in the off season. These are definitely must see sights and skip the line is the way to go!
I thought the communication and organisation staff were very good indeed. The guide, (Rudi) was also very good, knowledgeable and engaging. Our time slot was 4pm and it was just a bit late to be able to get into the Basilica unfortunately
Learned a lot. Francesco was very knowledgeable and answered all the questions patiently. The Sistine chapel and Peter’s basilica was awesome
We had a great tour guide that made for a much more informative and better experience. Necessary with the huge crowds.
Amazing tour. Great value, it exceeded our expectations. Would highly recommend and hope to do it again
Definetely worth visiting! Line was huge and we passed through it, so everything was great. Musem by itself is stunning
Well worth it to "skip the line"!
This was a great experience, beautiful history and culture. It was difficult to stay with the tour guide due to how many other people were there as well. It was very packed sometimes elbow to elbow. But thankfully our guide Alex was able to get us through within 2.5 hours. & once we were done with the guided tour we were able to stay in the Vatican City and do our own thing.
Francesco was very knowledgeable but also very passionate about what he spoke of. He was also very patient as a few of us asked rudimentary questions, yet he encouraged more questions. Excellent for first timers otherwise we would have baby giraffes on roller skates.
Guide was very good , knew lot of things, would inform right amount than over doing it. Very good narrative
Francesco was amazing. He was very passionate about the tour and sharing information. He provided additional context and his passion for the history was evident. He was friendly and lovely to spend a few hours with. The tour was very well organized and it’s the best way to see the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. It can be quite overwhelming however Francesco made it manageable and we walked away in awe of the history. Highly recommend the tour with him.
We had to go to the inside out tours office near vatican to check in . The check in process was easy. They gave us headphones and radio. Our guide was Francesco. He was very knowledgeable and had a lot of information. He was passionate about the arts and religious history surrounding the Vatican. He was very detailed in his explanation of the paintings and sculptures. He even went beyond the allotted time of the tour to show the group the two marquis Raphael works within the St Peters basilica. He ensured that we did not miss any highlights. The tour was pretty tiring with lots of walking and lots of history and information. The sights were amazing. Water from the aqueducts was very tasty. One constructive feedback is to calibrate the information to the group time and interests. All in all we had a good experience.
It is my 2nd time in the Vatican but our first time to have a tour guide. We are thankful we booked this because our guide was very thorough in our tour. A lot of detailed history was shared with us.
The tour was very nice. Due to the size of the crowds and length of the tour, it’s impossible to see everything. You need to pack your patience. Our guide, Rudy, was great. He did his best to make sure we saw the highlights and understood the history behind the museums and their contents. It was a great tour but I feel like there were some things that were missed that I would have liked to have seen.
In general you can enter the museum, which is the most important. Be aware, you don’t get the real ticket and have to physically collect it before your visit.
It was smooth , insightful and entertaining…Francisco has a true passion for arts and was very helpful.
The meeting place was easy to find, and having a guide made getting through the entrance much quicker and smoother. Our guide kept everyone engaged throughout the tour, and I learned so much! I absolutely loved the entire experience. I highly recommend paying for a guided tour. It’s definitely worth it!
Very organized but they just got new headsets that are hard to keep on ear. Also know that guide has thick accent but was very easy to ask her to repeat. The history she knew was great
We had a wonderful tour guide who led us through some of the history and context of the amazing art we were seeing. She expertly navigated the religious topics and provided nuance as needed. The art and architecture are a must see. Be prepared for going through security and for crowds.
Great and easy experience. We walked right in, learned a lot, and enjoyed the knowledge of our guide.
Our guide, Claudia, was a pleasure to spend time with. She was pleasant and skilled at moving us through the crowds and navigating the lines, all while informing us of the beautiful sites. I also appreciated the clear communication before the tour as well.
We were so greatful to have such a wonderful experience with our guide, Valentina from A Taste of Italy! Her knowledge, passion and sense of humor kept us smiling and appreciative of the culture and history. Well done!
We really enjoyed our tour of the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Bascillica. Our guide was very informative and had a great sense of humor! He was a great story teller and pointed out to us several more obscure facts about paintings, sculptures, and architecture. I highly recommend the tour!
Everyone who comes to Rome has to take this tour. Alex was awesome. The Basilica was great. Could take pictures everywhere except the Sistine Chapel.
