Itinerary
The meeting point of this food tour is by the church of Santa Maria Regina Pacis. Your guide will meet you with the sign of our company name on the sidewalk by the entrance of the church in via Barrili 76-78.
We'll start with a typical Roman breakfast with cappuccino and maritozzo. Have you ever heard of it before? You won't forget it after this tour ;) This pastry shop is being run from the same family since three generations!
We'll then walk to the local market, only frequented by locals. This is where you'll learn all the unwritten rules of how the Romans choose their fresh fruits and vegetables every day. Here we'll taste the freshness of the Roman countryside (after eating lots of pizza and pasta during your Italy trip, you'll appreciate some fresh fruits!).
After the market, we'll head to the local deli. This deli is today ran by two brothers who are continuing the family business their father and uncle started in the 1960s. The brother will prepare for us a special selection of hams and cheese from the Roman countryside, together with a glass of wine. Here you'll also learn about the ingredients that are part of the most popular Roman dishes, such as carbonara and amatriciana.
Next we'll go to the local bakery. This bakery is so local that it doesn't even have a sign outside! But here you'll always find a queue of locals buying their bread. This bakery is run by Alessia, who continued the business her grandpa started here after WW2 ended. Since then, the bakery hasn't changed a thing. In this bakery you'll taste a must-try of the Roman street food: pizza rossa! This is not the pizza you'll find in the restaurants, but the pizza from the bakery, that kids bring to school for their lunch breaks. And adults like to eat while walking to their errands, or for a quick break in the morning. A pizza that most tourists tend to overlook, but that is so worth trying!
Last but not least, gelato! You'll taste our favorite gelato and you'll learn how to recognize the signs of a good gelato on your own, even after this tour. You'll also get to see the laboratory where gelato is made.

I cancelled some other tours so I could Sind up with LVG. The best decision I made! Excellent tour with hidden gems and historical accuracy!
We had a lovely experience with Frederick leading the food tour. She was enthusiastic, friendly and her English is excellent. She was also happy to answer questions about other aspects of our holiday. We appreciated the small group limits. Our family group thoroughly enjoyed all the sampled foods. We could have happily spent more time learning about the different foods and local lifestyle. Would highly recommend.
We did four tours over two days and couldn’t be happier. The incredible stories and knowledge truly comes alive through the fantastic guides. There is so much that we would have missed had it not been for for these tours. Thank you all at Live Virtual Tours
Great food tour I was so full. Everything we ate was a delicious treat! Frederica made it feel like she was showing us her favourite eateries. It was a special experience
Brilliant local food tour in a proud working Roman neighbourhood. Guide was lovely and gave lots of information and local tips. Shop owners engaging and enjoyed sharing their produce. Plenty of beautiful food and some drinks along the 5 stops. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an authentic food tour rather than the ones where the next group is hot on your heels. Thank you for a great morning.
Excellent tour of less travelled neighbourhood , but typical Rome. Capacino and sweets, charcuterie and wine, Roma pizza Rosso and Gelato. I would come back
Fredrika is amazing!! She is very enthusiastic about her tour.s. The best part of this one was seeing places that the average tourist never sees. The food was delicious which included Italian sweet and savory breakfast dishes and ended with gelato. I highly recommend this company. Thank you for an amazing experience.
We had the absolute best time on our food tour in Monteverde with Frederica. From the moment we met her, it was obvious she truly loves her neighborhood and that made all the difference. Every stop on the tour felt like stepping into a local gem we never would’ve found on our own. She walked us from place to place she personally handpicked. At the daily market, we visited a tiny produce stand where they made fresh-squeezed juice with carrot, apple, and other amazing flavors. We even ended up meeting a famous artist who lives in the neighborhood. Then we stopped at a deli for Chianti and a spread of sliced meats and cheeses, and the way each shop greeted her like they see her every day which made us feel like we were getting a true insider’s experience. Our kids stayed engaged and excited the entire time, which is saying something. The rhythm of the tour was perfect: relaxed, authentic, and full of stories. Somehow all the noise and crowds of Rome disappeared, and it felt like we were just wandering from one great moment to the next while learning about the area, the history, even Julius Caesar. This was some of the best money we spent on our trip. Truly worth every euro. If we ever return to Rome, I would book every one of their tours, without hesitation. It was that good.
I follow this company on Instagram and wondered if the experience would be as good in real life. Well let me tell you it was EVEN BETTER than on Instagram. Our guide was the beautiful Frederica. From the moment we met she made us all feel like old friends catching up to spend a morning together. Federica took us to places that have been run by families passed on to the next generations that keep up the traditions that they were raised with. It is the best value most authentic food walking tour that you could possibly do in Rome. It is out of the tourist area of Rome in the area Federica grew up in - Monte Verde. It is very easy to get to by bus from Rome or an inexpensive taxi ride if you aren’t confident on pubic transport. I highly recommend this tour and would consider doing it again for the pure joy of the whole experience! One word of warning: DON’T EAT BEFORE THE TOUR!! There is so much deliciousness that you need plenty of room to enjoy every bite. Thank you Federica for a wonderful adventure!
Sometimes you follow things on social media that look amazing but sadly disappoint in person. Please note: This is NOT the case with Live Virtual Guide!!!! Federica is even more engaging in person than she is on Instagram. She immediately made us feel like friends hanging out together rather than being part of a tour. Sometimes in Rome you see huge groups of people following someone carrying an umbrella and wonder what if anything they get from that type of tour. But this tour is completely the opposite! Federica took us to amazing places filled with a real sense of community where we were made to feel extremely welcome. I can’t even begin to describe how delicious the food is. The only way you will know is to do this tour for yourself! I can’t recommend this tour highly enough. If you want an authentic Roman experience, please do this tour. But one warning. Go with an empty stomach to make room for all the tasty treats you are going to eat. Thanks again Federica for a beautiful experience. I can’t wait to do so another tour! Julie
My daughter and I went on the walking food tour and was great! Frederica was our guide. She was knowledgeable about the area and the history, and was very kind. We enjoyed the tour, and the food was abundant. Thank you
Frederica is an excellent guide. You really have to go where the locals go to discover good Italian food. I enjoyed seeing a different side of Rome while in Monteverde.
Frederica is awesome. She took us where the locals go and showed us a different part of the city where we would have never ventured. We visited a variety of family owned establishments. She was very knowledgeable with a great personality. Highly recommend this tour!
Our walking food tour through a non-touristy neighborhood was led by an amazing guide who was personable and very informative! We started with a local breakfast of fluffy pastry and cappuccino then walked through a real neighborhood market meeting the owners of a multigenerational produce stand and store to taste their homemade fruit juices, followed by a deli where we tasted many deli meats and cheeses with a bit of wine, then a very local bakery for a special type of pizza and finally the most delicious gelato. We are stuffed and very happy to imagine life in a Roman neighborhood. This was a fun start to our Roman vacation.
We had a great time with Federika. She was very knowledgeable about the history of the neighborhood and the foods we sampled. And the foods were delicious of course!
Different local places. All authentic and fantastic food places that has been for generations within the family. Wr all enjoyed it and got enough to eat along the way
It was so pleasant experiencing a small neighbourhood in Rome; touring the businesses that have carried on their family traditions of providing for their local community makes you want to live there! A little history, some food (and more food) made for a very satisfying tour experience.
Had a lovely morning on the food tour, more like a walk with new friends rather than the usual tourist tour! Food was lovely, Frederica was very knowledgable and super friendly. It was wheelchair accessible unlike many other tours. Highly recommend.
Really unique and authentic tour. Frederica was a fantastic and friendly guide. Breakfast, pizza, wine, gelato, cheese, prosciutto, etc, etc
Our tour was amazing with lots of variety of delicious food. A must try and a lovely pace. Our guide was very knowledgeable and super friendly.
Federica was absolutely incredible, my wife and I had the best time on our food tour. We got to see a neighbourhood we wouldn’t normally have visited. We loved tasting the foods that locals eat without the tourist traps. She was so knowledgeable and passionate about sharing such a beautiful city with us.
Great tour of local, family-owned food businesses. Delicious variety —fresh fruit shake at a produce stall, a variety of meats and cheeses, wine, pizza, gelato and more. Tour guide Federica was very charming, patient, and informative as she led our small group (8) through her neighborhood and introduced us to local vendors whose families have been inn business for generations.
Federica was so informative and knowledgeable of all the aspects of the neighborhood. I met great people and had great conversations.
I have been following LVG on intagram for over a year and I was not disappointed. The food was amazing the people so friendly and the guide explained everything so well and I could ask any questions. Lots of interaction and conversations. Definitely recommend.
The tour was amazing! Federica is a great guide - full of energy and passion for what she does. The food at every stop is delicious and will leave you wanting more. This tour is worth every single cent.
This was an amazing experience! This was my 3rd time in rome, we stay for a week at a time everytime! But this was Super local food and defiantly nothing like the other "local food tours that are offered. We went to super local food places with local owners who basically only spoke italian and we had some super delicious food! including the best gelato I have ever had in my life! I thought I knew what good gelato was but this was eye opening! This is a must do tour! The guide is super sweet and super engaging! making sure to talk to every person about more than just the tour! she is super interested in you as a person and what things you have done in rome and what your experience was! she's a true roman! great experience! I will book with LVG for all my tours next time we are back in Rome!
It was a great informative tour of a very local Roman neighborhood! We were the only tourists in the area and everything was so authentic and real. Fredrica made it so personal and chatted with everyone smith all things Rome! This isn’t our normal Rome food tour!
A must do tour. We walked and sampled wares from five different local small businesses. All within a relatively small area and all well worth our time. So different but so rewarding. Our delightful host was so enthusiastic in showing us around the area. Grazie
Our guide was excellent and the neighborhood had a non-tourist vibe. We sampled breakfast, a local’s market, meats, cheese, and wine, pizza and gelato. So fun!
Seeing the where the locals shop and eat was really cool! Not to mention sampling the local flavors was awesome. As always, Federica was an absolutely delightful guide.
The food was so good! It was awesome to eat like a local and get to know some of the best spots. Federica also really knew the story behind all the dishes!
What a great morning we had. So very interesting exploring a non-tourist area, eating local specialties and hearing the stories behind them. Federica is a delightful guide and clearly enjoys showing visitors around her own neighbourhood. Warning - do not eat anything before you start the tour (maybe even go easy the night before as well 🤣)
