Great tour. We were late for the tour and we just joined the next one. They were laid back and accommodating. The tour guide was knowledgeable and provided great service
The experience was very challenging especially with kids, no information was provided that the dome viewing will take place after 4 pm when you have been at the meeting point at 7:30 am, as a result we didn't make it to the dome. This is too much and very poorly communicated.
Great visit, amazing experience and what a beautiful space, both at the top of the dome and in the Basilica. Tour operators instructions great and the there at the meeting spot to help. But note to future travellers Speak to the person at the queue for the lifts and tell them you have tickets, instructions at the Basilica really unclear!
Don't make the same mistake I did: pay too much money to a third party (Vox City) when you can get exactly the same offering by just showing up early (before 9 am) and buying regular tickets to enter the Basilica and climb the Dome. Annoyingly, Vox City did not provide a means to download the audioguide before the experience, so I ended up using the last of my travel data to download the Pop Guide app, and Vox City itself did not offer a Wi-fi network. Save your money.
This isn’t a tour. It’s payment for express entry only. Also you need a “maybe” selection in your review options.
This was poorly organised, it turned out to be a download app with some audio on interesting points, the meet location knew nothing about our tickets, just a QR code to scan for the app. We had to pay again to visit the Basilica Dome. We tried to contact the tour operator on the day, no response. Not a great tour operator experience. It’s actual free to enter the church so all I got for my £50 was a bit of audio info that I could get on the day, don’t bother we this operator
Dont book this with these people . The lady at the meeting point is rude and the person that takes you to the gate is just trying to get you tgeee and be done as fast as he can . There was no clear instructions from our guide and we never received our dome tickets so we didn’t even get to go up the dome . The actual tour agency is VOx and they are terrible . St. Peter’s is great but this tour agency is terrible .
Horrible !!! The Tour never showed up / never responded to my emails/ messages. I requested a refund and I’ve had no response do not book with this company. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Disappointed, I paid extra for elevator access to get up to the dome at St. Peter's Basilica but my tickets received did not give us access and we had to climb the stairs. Reached out to the tour company but have had radio silence from Vox City since the tour is over. Won't book again.
St Peters is truely amazing and well worth a visit in person. We didn't understand initially that this was a self guided tour with a audio app, so bring your own headphones. Also the Dome QR code didn't seem to work at first, but we persisted, and then got to go up. Again, the Dome just blows you away to well worth it. The other advantage of the self guided audio is that it is self-paced and you can go into a much detail as you like.
Own your on at your pace. The tickets needed to be picked up unfortunately instead of being provided online which would have been smoother transition from Vatican to St. Peter’s.
Our guide helped us get into the square, showing us where to go and explaining how the process worked.
Friendly "guides" - they just bring you in, they don't guide you in the Basilica but that is clear in the description. You get a free Americano or juice for kids from the cafe you meet at.
The tour was self-guided, as the organizer told us to meet early, said we had to wait in line, and then left us stranded. After waiting in line for about 40 minutes to enter the Basilica, we were left to fend for ourselves. We had tickets to the dome via elevator, but we were NEVER able to use them because we didn't have the tickets the guide should have given us at our meeting before entering. I found the person who attended us disrespectful and rude; she couldn't wait to finish with everyone and leave. She was rude to several people who wanted to ask questions or had doubts.
While St. Peter's Basilica was absolutely exquisite and breathtaking, I was disappointed with the tour experience itself. The guides moved very quickly to the line with little to no communication, and we were then left waiting for nearly two hours without updates or guidance about what to expect. I also paid extra for the “elevator” option for the dome, but everyone appeared to use the elevator regardless, so it did not seem like there was any added benefit to purchasing that option. The Basilica itself was beautiful, but the overall experience felt chaotic and poorly organized, especially considering the lack of communication and direction from the guides.
Tour was advertised as audio but we were not told we would need our own headset to be able to fully appreciate the audio. The host at the meeting point was rude and short when we tried to talk to her, this was the case with everyone who spoke to her. Once we were with our guide she only escorted us to the gates then left us to our own devices. I would recommend you advise people to bring a headset and look to retrain your hosts on how to communicate with the general public.
The tour was very well organized. The Viator folks were really nice and prompt Our guide was super nice. I did not get his name but he was a student at the university.
We got to the meeting point and were escorted to the entrance by a young lady, which was a great start. It was a good idea to arrive before 9 as the crowds weren't too bad at this point. The tour was great with a comprehensive audio guide too. Would definitely advise an early tour to avoid long queues.
This particular Tour is obviously self guided but it doesn’t guarantee you skip the line access and we still ended up waiting for two and a bit hours to actually get into the elevator to go to the top so if you’re travelling with children I would strongly recommend investing in some kind of skip the line access because it was very taxing. Also bear in mind that we were meeting the Tour Guide at 8:45 in the morning and that was still Mate.
St. Peter's Basilica is beautiful, but the additional cost of purchasing tickets through a third party wasn't worth it. It was self-guided. Save yourself the money and buy direct if you want to see it.
Ques for this ticket was waaay too long. We didnt reach the elevator until almost 2 hours after the time on the ticket.
He was a man of great passion and faith and history of Christianity.. With a plethora of dates and description of St Peter and other Disciplines and Popes of the past. We had an hour in the security queue before entry and he was chatting constantly about all that was relevant.
Place is filled with pagan statues.
Not sure what I paid for. I had to wait on the security line like everyone else. I thought I was paying for an expedited process. The cost to go to the dome is 15 euro with elevator. I paid near 60. There was no guided tour of St Peter’s only an app with audio tour. Seems like a rip off to me.
We have a reservation at 7:30am for the Papal audience visit and Dome entrance. However, the Papal isn’t around so the audience visit is cancelled, but the Dome entrance is still confirmed. We arrived to our meeting point at 7:20am as per the conversation we had from VOX, but no one showed up. We waited for 45 mins because the VOX contact says the staff well be there soon, like 5 minutes late. We waited again but no one arrived. We ended up going to the basilica and came back at 1:15pm for the Dome entrance. The Dome entrance cost only €15 (with elevator) & €10 (w/out elevator). And the cost of this tour is not worth it of paying. You can do it yourself, just come early in the morning and the line up is short.
First, I could not access my tickets to the St. Peter’s Basliica and dome tour, which I had to text multiple times to get assistance. Then when I asked to change my tour time to later in the day, which was offered to me, no one responded after more multiple texts and calls. No one answers and now I am out the tickets I purchased. It was very unprofessional that not a single person at the local tour group would have the decency to provide a reply.
The tour guide was unbelievably knowledgeable and such a nice person. The tour wasn’t to long or to short, and considering the amount of other people there we didn’t seem rushed or pressured. I would highly recommend this tour with this company.
Terrible tour. All they did was walk us in and put us in a 1 hour long line. Was supposed to be audio tour. Horrible communication. They just gave a QR code which was the audio tour. We didn't know we had to bring our own earphones. Waste of money and not as advertised.
I am writing this review to let people know not to deal with this company. Extremely difficult to cancel my tickets after multiple attempts through their customer service. Will have to dispute the charge with my credit card company.
We arrived at the meeting point coffee shop. There were four people in line to use the toilet and the tour guide left without waiting. We got out of line and rushed to catch up. The Vatican is very crowded place and she was walking so fast that many of the elderly people could not keep up. Basically she took us to the security line where they check your bags and electronics. Then she walked us up the steps to where you get in line to see the dome. I think it would be just easier to do it yourself. There are toilets along the way that you can use at your leisure and you would save money by not buying this tour. Tickets to see the dumb cost $10 if you are walking up the steps and 15 euros if you were taking the elevator. Just my two cents. I just felt that there was no consideration for the people in the group and no value added.
Awesome place. Words cannot explain the art and sculptures. The architecture was astounding given the time it was built. Tour guides were very knowledgeable and friendly.
This tour offer no perks whatsoever. We ended up in a queue for 2.5hours before getting up to the dome. We were placed in the same queue as people that had no tickets, you would really expect the tour operator to have the tickets pre purchased, in an effort to speed things up.
Dome ticket was so worth it. Tour guide was not very clear on the process. Bring headphones, no where in the instructions does it mention it.
The dome is 5 stars. The tickets 2 stars. You are in a HUGE group. The line is long, the wait is long and you spend twice the money for the same thing that you would buy directly. The sudio guide was ok but you need your own device and headphones so listen to Rick Steves or another for free. If you don't plan ahead and it's your only option, it will get you in, but there are likely better options.
I have just received a request to review the experience which did not even start yet. We arrived 15mins before the planned start. The first queue was for a sticker and a free bottle of water. Then you wait for the whole group to meet. After that you queue for a security check. Then you wait for the rest of the 100+ group to go through the security. The next waiting is inside next to toilets. After we waited outside to find out our 142 USD tickets cost 80 EUR with less waiting. I cannot write anything about the experience itself since it did not start yet. Still waiting………
This is a total scam. They are not even a reseller of official tickets. Entry to the Basilica is free, for entry to the Dome there is an official site with tickets. If you book your tickets on the official site, you can go through a faster queue for the security check, and without queue to the Dome. These people just stayed with us in a usual queue for the security check, and what is even more funnier, in the queue for the tickets. Basically you pay for someone to stay near you in the queue, and then buy you a ticket in the ticket office. Advice: book tickets in advance on the official site, or go early by yourself.
The Basilica and Dome are absolutely wonderful and really worth visiting. The tour experience was OK. You meet in front of a crowded little bar and they give you a sticker. You then follow the guide up to the Dome elevator. For us, it took us almost 40 minutes to get up to the elevator. Not sure how much value the guide really added. Once you finished visiting the Dome, you go through the Basilica, which is very impressive, and don't forget o see Michellangelo's Pieta!
Was given directions to meeting point. Put details into Google Maps and it took me to a place approx 50 metres from meeting point. Tried calling as noticed no one else arriving and just an automated message with no answer phone. Sent a message through the APP and was ignored here also. As a result, missed the event which wasn’t cheap, probably well over face value and didn’t get to see the Basilica as arranged. Queues were too long to try and go myself. Really dissatisfied with service from VOX.
It is a rip off. They charge double the money for exactly the same you can do yourself. It was the same que everywhere. The same time needed. Nothing extra. The waste of money. Avoid it as it is big cheating
Was 1 1/2 time i line / queue Has expected we had booked ticked for jumping over queue. The audioguide was not working. Have to look at a map could not mark on the map to be sure you was informed about the correct statue. Diffucilt to explain.
Long waits in the sun but much better w Viator reservation because this qualified entrance thru online reservation line - somewhat shorter.
This tour group got you to the dome and in the elevator so that there were no problems. Took the elevator and then climbed the stairs to the top! Warning once you start the stairs there’s no turning around. Fantastic view! So worth it! St Peter’s was great but very crowded! I would highly recommend this tour group and tour.
Beautiful basilica and the view from the domes was phenomenal! Would recommend, but just be ready for those stairs!
It was a smooth transition, and I felt a great connection with the guides. The St Peter Basilica and Dome were beautiful!
Vox City staff was on time, they were nice, and directed us exactly at the base of the Basilica’s dome..and also they provided us with a free breakfast at Michelle’s Cafeteria consisting of a croissant & juice, nothing fancy but never before any provider has gave us anything for free. After that we climb the dome by ourselves so the rest of the basilica with the free self audioguide that they provided us. Technically you do not need a tour or pay nothing to enter into the Basilica, but you will need to pay to enter into the Dome, and pay for the use of the elevator that lifts you for the first 200 steps of the dome, then you will need to do the rest (320) on your feet. Considering that the Basilica do not assure 100% to have availability of the tickets to enter into the Dome, for us worked better this tour instead, by having the tickets with elevator in advance. Also, we recommend take the climb or the Dome early because that allows you to breath some fresh air throughout; we did it around 8:30 and even was hard to climb for the steep of the steps it was viable because there were not so much crowd at the same time and was not so much heat and humidity in the ambient. We cannot imagine trying to climb the Dome with the full heat of the day because the walls keep a lot of humidity and not so much air.
This was a great experience! Climbing the dome gave us amazing views, and being in the Basilica early, before the crowds, was truly special. Everything was very well organized. If you want a peaceful and memorable visit, this is the tour to take!
Urge you to avoid!! This is a scam. They very slowly walk you to the line to purchase tickets where you wait with every other person who found their way to the ticket line. The “guide” buys tickets for everyone with a credit card and then you separate into lines for those taking the stairs and those taking the elevator. In the amount of time it takes for you to wait around a random coffee shop meet up point and wait for the “guides” to get organized, you could have saved yourself time and money by just going to the ticket office yourself. You would have been there and done before this group even arrived. This entire “experience” was a total and complete scam.
Just what we wanted. Got us into the dome line and access to the basilica. Unreal views! Great guide. Very friendly and helpful
Sucked. Did not get there, troops left early, we were not the only ones, there seemed to be no reason for it
