Rome: Small Group Underground Catacombs Tour

The tour was great and our tour guide wonderful and knowledgeable. I would only say that even though this says small group, we had about 15-20 of us, which was very crowded and seemed too big for such a small space. I think there should be a cap for small groups. Especially because we had no headsets.

Peter did a great job explaining a lot of history before we entered the catacombs. He had a great sense of humor and we enjoyed listening to him. We had to duck out early and Peter accommodated us by watching the clock and ensuring that we could exit the catacombs on time while the rest of our group continued. This Underground experience was terrific!

Mike was a terrific guide focused on producing a great experience, and this was a really good add-on to all of the other usual Rome tours filling an open afternoon. Seeing and learning about the catacombs outside the city walls was a big enhancement to my vacation overall.

Divan was an amazing guide. Very personable and passionate on the subject matter. He was thorough and welcomed all questions. Would definitely take any available tours presented by Divan.

Our tour guide Heather was truly exceptional. This tour of the Catacombs of Domitilla was hands down the best of several tours we’ve taken during our stay in Rome. Her knowledge of the catacombs, and Roman history in general was impressive, as was her ability to weave an interesting, compelling narrative that kept our small group engaged and entertained for the entirety of the tour. Our only complaint was that the tour had to end! It’s well worth the price of admission and I would’ve been willing to pay more for another 30-60 minutes of exploring the catacombs with a guide if Heather’s caliber. Can’t recommend this tour enough, it should definitely not be missed!

He brought his passion to the history and the people that surround the catacombs, Catholicism, and the Roman Empire. The visit to the catacombs was incredibly interesting and enlightening to say the least. If you can book with Devan then you will truly win!

Mike was a fabulous tour guide. Very knowledgeable. Gave a wonderful "presentation" before going into the catacombs. The historic backstory really brought the tour to life. He went above & beyond in this tour. He was funny, tastefully sarcastic & really just a blast to be around. Mike is your man for this tour, you won't be sorry!

It was an incredible experience to see a part of the catacombs. The work put into these underground tombs thousands of years ago is mind boggling. Mike was a wonderful host with a great sense of humor. Highly recommend!

Once you’ve done all the must see tours and attractions (the colosseum, Roman forum, Pantheon, Trevi fountain, etc,) you MUST put this one on your list! This is two hours well spent. We learned a great deal about Ancient Rome including how several traditions came to be. The catacomb tour was incredibly informative and Angela (our tour guide) is one of the most knowledgeable on the subject of ancient Roman history I’ve ever known. My wife just can’t stop saying how much she enjoyed this adventure (and neither can I!)

Angela was a fantastic guide around the catacombs. We learnt so much about the history of Christianity and the catacombs. She busted more than a few myths and had just the right number of jokes!

Devon was our guide and he was amazing. His knowledge of history and the catacombs was beyond fascinating. He was excited and shared the love of his job with our small group. Highly recommend this experience.

This was an awesome tour. Heather is fun (love the dad jokes!), engaging, and full of knowledge. We could tell she really enjoys doing this. It worked perfectly to be able to get out of the summer heat too!

Mike was the Best! Nice and very knowledgeable He made everyone feel very, very comfortable He knew all of our names and was using our names the entire tour. He gave us a good history of the city of Rome and the catacombs. He is very, very good and the catacombs was great.

This tour was our favorite out of a week in Rome, our guide was very knowledgeable and informative in our time in the catacombs. I would definitely recommend this tour to anybody looking for an unforgettable experience in the catacombs!

This was the best tour from the trip my friends and I took. We had Divan as our guide and he is so passionate about history, that the passion was contagious!! He is such a great story teller, that you have no issue transporting yourself to that time period. He really is as the best tour guide we had on our 2 week Italy vacation! I’m glad we had the chance to visit the catacombs because we got to see and learn about a lot of history.

Very informative tour hosted by the brilliant Jonathan. He really knew his stuff and took plenty of time to explain things and answer any/all questions. Lots of really interesting information and the perfect combination of walking/talking without overloading us with a tonne of facts and information. Done lots of tours lately where the information and talking was way too heavy, and we’d be stood round for 15/20 minutes in the same space being talked at, but Jonathan kept it very light and interesting and moving about, making sure we saw everything we possibly could. If you want to see bones (like we kinda did), we don’t recommend the Domitilla Caracombs. But definitely do reach out to these guys as Jonathan was able to recommend plenty of alternatives that sounded perfect for what we had in mind. Unfortunately we ran out of days here, but worth a chat for those who are booking before they come! The only negative I’d say is that we felt it was a little over priced. At almost £90 for 2 people it seemed quite steep. This did include the entry fee which was €10 each, so €20, but still felt as though for the amount of people that was in the group, €70 was a little much for the tour (nothing to do with Jonathan, again, he was without fault!) Would recommend still, it’s a must do whilst in Rome!

This was by far the best tour during my time in Europe. The subject matter is intriguing and our guide, Divan, showed a real passion for a history I knew nothing about. His delivery and willingness to take questions created a open discussion among the group. There was some confusion about when picture-taking was acceptable underground so I did not take any :-(

This was a really great tour, and our guide Georgia was fantastic. She was so passionate about the history of the Catholics during the Roman time. It was so disappointing that we had one individual in our group that was taking photos in the catacombs when everybody was instructed not to. The guide should be allowed to kick people out of the tour when this happens.

Our guide Heather was very knowledgeable and fun to listen to. We liked the way she explained Christianity and pagan traditions, and we came away more informed. The experience was something we won't forget soon.

What a great tour! Amanda, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and her English was perfect, being British herself. The tour started in the gardens above with a brief introduction, where we also got to chat with everyone else on the tour. Inside the catacombs, Amanda provided a lot of detail and answered all of our questions. We covered different levels and many different rooms. There was so many interesting artifacts and stories. For those who may be interested in seeing preserved bodies, there actually are none remaining. There is a beautiful chapel where Mass was being held as we were leaving. It was easy to navigate using the bus system and there were many cabs which could take us there and back. Our taxi driver gave us a card and said we could call the number and he would return when we called. Great tour and would highly recommend touring with Amanda!

Our tour guide Sean was very knowledgeable and shared many different historical and surprising facts regarding the catacombs. He was very enthusiastic in his presentation and kept everyone’s attention. He encouraged everyone to ask questions and made sure that we all rotated around in the small areas so engine could get a closer look at the graves and fresco paintings. Tips for travelers: wear a sweater or light jacket as it is much cooler underground. Don’t bring a camera as taking photos are not allowed.

Very interesting tour with an engaging guide, Andy. There is a lot of walking and stairs. It was well worth a visit.
