Itinerary
The Vatican Museums are the public museums of Vatican City. They display works from the immense collection amassed by the Catholic Church and the papacy throughout the centuries, including several of the most well-known Roman sculptures and most important masterpieces of Renaissance art in the world. The museums contain roughly 70,000 works, of which 20,000 are on display and currently employ 640 people who work in 40 different administrative, scholarly, and restoration departments.
The Sistine Chapel is a chapel in the Apostolic Palace, the pope's official residence in Vatican City. Originally known as the Cappella Magna the chapel takes its name from Pope Sixtus IV, who had it built between 1473 and 1481. Since that time, the chapel has served as a place of both religious and functionary papal activity. Today, it is the site of the papal conclave, the process by which a new pope is selected. The fame of the Sistine Chapel lies mainly in the frescoes that decorate the interior, most particularly the Sistine Chapel ceiling and The Last Judgment, both by Michelangelo.

Horrible information, Vatican staff were rude, crowds were awful. As much as I wished to see the sites, the lines/people/flow of information was sad.
This is not skip the line but a different line that is govered by the entry time on the ticket for a chanel line. Once you join this line (VERY LONG) You enter, then it is like a continuous queue through many many coridors!!! Once you arrive at the sistine chapel you are crammed in like sardines to look at the magnificent painting. However once you leave the chapel the human log jam continues to the exit past manny gift shops on route. Although the chapel itself is fantastic had l known it was going to be asuch a squeeze all the way through without the opportunity to stop and rest or use the bayhroom l wouldnt have gone.ps. no photos or videos allowed either. Dissapointed This wasnt a busy time of the year either
Avoid - we booked this tour with Reliant Tours and within 3 hours of entry time. We received a message to say it was cancelled.. This message only came after chasing for our tickets by email and WhatsApp for 2 days. The price was inflated but with two young children seemed to make sense. Advice - book directly with the Vatican if possible and if you are intending to get tickets on the day, join the queue early in the morning.
TERRIBLE SCAM!!! They send you a link to download a “voucher” that tells you your tickets will be sent to you via email or “whatsapp”!‽ I should have known then it was too many odd steps but after buying $150 ticket we sat in the rain after a $100 taxi to arrive with no tickets. Calling the number you get an odd recording that no message can be left and no response at all to their messaging contact. I cannot believe that companies like Viator and others continue to allow them to sell through their portal. Stupidly I only checked reviews for the site I paid not the tour operator. 9 months of planning thousands in travel expenses to see a very important place for my husband completely ruined. It’s not even the money scam that is the worst part its the complete loss of the dream piece of history you’r planned to see.
It is very organized and there is so much to look at you might feel rushed. What an incredible collection of art this museum has acquired.
Was given a voucher and it was stated that we would get an email with the tickets . We hadn’t been sent the email. Write to operator informing them of it. We were at the Museum entrance and were told we needed to Che k email for tickets. No email was sent. Finally another company who offers tours helped us by contacting the company directly. They told me they emailed us the tickets the day before. I was to look at my emails which I did. My sister and her husband also had booked the same skip the line excursion/ trip. They too did not get an email. Finally the company said look on what’s app. I did have an account and it was there but we were unable to download the tickets. This other company helped work with this company to resend the tickets to tjeem and they did and we got the tickets. We raced back to get in as we were told we had a 45 min grace period before the tickets would be voided. We made it by 8 minutes!! Again this shouldn’t been a great experience but with all of our running around and not getting an email as we were told they had sent it was a stressful excursion for us. We want to have this looked into further and again feel that this was quite short of anyone’s expectations who have only one time to see the Vatican ! Disappointing again.
It is a nice overview of the former Jewish ghetto and renaissance-era Jewish life. Not a lot of the former buildings remain, so it is a lot of pictures of previous buildings and explaining where they would fit in current landscape. The guide was well informed and pleasant.
You don’t actually “skip” the line. You just get in the line with people who also already have tickets. But it still saves a lot of time.
Skip the line is definitely worth it. You need to be there only before your time as they call you in lots and check your timing. You could go only 30mins prior e.g. 1pm for 1.30pm. Peak summer and 36° was so hot, crowded... we ended up walking through galleries without too much engagement and lingered longer at the distine chapel. All in all, a very large collection of objects and the frescoes were amazing.
Not easy to get your tickets, they are not sent to you via email or similar. You have to find their office to get the tickets. This is inconvenient and time wasting. Other than that it's good.
I bought three tickets skip the line Vatican museum. I received an email from the company confirming full payment and other information. I arrived at the Vatican skip the line entrance an hour earlier . There are three entrances. I approached one of the entrances and showed the guard the email I received from Viator . He asked me to call the company and request the electronic tickets. I called the company many times without any success. Then I had no other choice but to buy three other tickets from a nearby travel agent . Whoever is managing the company is doing a lousy job. I send an email using Viator website demanding a full refund.
This was not a real “skip the line” experience. I am still not sure why we paid extra for this. We were actually in the longest of the three lines and waited over 30 min in the hot sun. This is totally overpriced, I would suggest just going online and buying a ticket directly from the Vatican site.
Informative was interesting and discovered things I had not known before ofcourse the Sistine chapel was what we all wanted to see - amazing
Mistakenly booked a week out and tried to cancelled but couldn’t. Be careful booking on Viator since they will cancel on you last minutes without rebooking for you. And not helping when you are mistakenly booked something. Will never use this service again.
Sistine Chapel reservations made easy. Great timing. Prompted you with excellent instructions. Agents were always there to answer any questions.
Perfecto grazi. Mama mia so fantastico. Bingo bango i like it a very mucha. Mucho mucho. Go to this place
It is hard to find the starting place but there are a lot of guys selling tickets to see the Vatican so I got directions from them. ,The museum takes at least 2 hours and is full, full, full of art and history. Also, I found it nerve wracking on both my Viatar tours to get my tickets at the last minute. A street seller helped me to find it on my phone.
Switched time by 45 mins and not a skip line at all was connected to a tour. Over priced do not recommend
It is stunning. They will give you a guided tour with a lot of information. Be prepared for a long walk.
Our guide was very informative and the experience was amazing. However, it was hot and there were lots of people. But in all, it was a great experience.
Fraud, rubbish site, the meeting place was like a market, no representation from the company at all, just a crazy mess of people, no information, just a joke. Then my bank blocked my credit card because this company has a red alert on it. Totally lost the day and the money. Unacceptable.
Skip the line was great but we lost our tour guide straight away, we got stuck behind some people on the escalator on the way up as it was very busy, by the time we got to the top, the group was gone and we couldn’t find them. We spent 1 hour trying to find our guide. We ended up having to pay for some audio headset. Disappointed we were not waited for as we were only a couple minutes behind. I understand the place was busy but I seen other tour guides wait for the group at multiple stops.
You, in fact, WILL NOT skip the line! After downloading the voucher, the seller has to send you another ticket….you have to stand in another line to retrieve another ticket.. then stand in line for your audio headset. The tour guides, while very polite, don’t allow much time for you take pics as they are on limited time to herd everyone through the museum. Oh and should you receive your ticket BEFORE arriving to the meeting point (had to request it once we got there) , please be aware of the dress code/rules for the Sistine Chapel. We feel like $175 for two tickets was wasted.
Huge museum before you get to the Sistine chapel, well worth a visit, really can’t do the ceiling of the chapel justice, it’s just fabulous. Also the map room is awesome & the room we called the ‘globe room’! Skip the line is a relative term!, your put in a line with others with the same time ticket & then all go in together so although it says be there 15 mins before your ticket time that’s just the que for your actual time and then it was probably around 20 mins after that we actually got in but it was well organised and I would def recommend.
The skip the line tickets are overpriced. We paid over 50-75 euros extra per person for skip the line with a guide tickets only to not have a guide in the end and have to navigate the museum ourselves.
Fantastic way to see the Colosseum with a specialist guide in a small group. Gentle pace and very informative.
Basically, all this tour does is allow you to skip the line, which is admittedly quite long. But I'm not sure whether that was worth the rather high ticket price. Better instructions for redeeming the tickets would be helpful, as this was somewhat confusing.
Great experience at the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. We only waited about 15 min to get through security, thankfully because all the other lines were so long! Be aware when you buy these. You need WhatsApp. I was sent the tickets 2 days before entry through WhatsApp and we got in smoothly. Would absolutely recommend these if you can’t get a timed entry directly through the Vatican.
Wished we had done it earlier in the day as we felt a little rushed to get through before things closed. So much to look at that it was somewhat overwhelming but definitely worth it.
Official tickets on Vatican website were sold out, so we had to purchase them secondhand on Viator and pay extra, which, setting aside moral objections with ticket scalping, was acceptable to us since we were booking relatively last minute and wanted the convenience of not waiting in any lines. Ultimately though, the “tour operator” sent us the tickets 24 hours in advance via WhatsApp and we entered directly into the Museum (obviously you still go through the security line - which was like five minutes) and skipped the day of purchase line (which was very long). The only confusion was that the “tour operator” was clear in their instructions that they are not operating an actual guided visit, and that you are not meeting anyone on site. But our tickets were technically for what was maybe a Vatican Museum-led tour, so there was some confusion about needing to go to the tour group ticket counter (and waiting for your tour guide) inside versus going straight through the turnstile by yourself. But there wasn’t any issue actually getting the physical tickets when we said we didn’t want to go on an official tour, we just wanted to visit at our own pace. Just check the tickets you receive via WhatsApp to see whether they are self-guided or an official tour and proceed accordingly.
Don’t buy skip the line tickets for the Vatican. And if you do, make sure the Sistine Chapel is actually open. Tour group should have notified us as it was apparently known by other operators.
THIS IS A SCAM. I paid 5 tickets but they ONLY sent me 4 tickets. the actual ticket was only sent an hour before the timed entry. I had to follow up a thousand times. I also paid 89 euros each ticket when it actually costs around 20-25 euros each. just go buy direct. the local tour operator is RELIANT TOURS. Avoid them at all cost they are unresponsive and a scam.
This is not the Bazilica ticket. For sure you dont beed to buy tickets for Bazilica (St.Peters Church) But only the bazilica visit is not enough, you need to experience guided tour of Vatican Museum an Sistine Chapel and see all the freskos. (We had a chance to do this with a very professional guide…Thanks to her.)
Extremely disappointing and frustrating experience with Viator. We booked a Vatican Museum tour through Viator and received an email instructing us to go to a meeting point before entering the museum to collect our tickets and voucher. However, on the morning of our visit, we suddenly received another email saying there was no meeting point. As a result, we were left completely confused and stranded outside the Vatican Museum with no proper guidance. The museum staff refused to let us enter because we did not have the required voucher, despite following the instructions we had originally been given. We spent nearly 3 hours walking around, trying to figure out what was happening, and dealing with unnecessary stress and frustration. Eventually, we found a Viator staff member near the entrance, only to be told that the email we had was not sufficient for entry. After contacting another team member, they finally sent us the correct voucher. This entire situation completely ruined our day in Rome and caused us significant stress and disappointment. We are requesting a full refund for the money we paid due to this unacceptable experience. If Viator does not resolve this matter appropriately, we will have no choice but to file a formal complaint and consider legal action. This level of poor organization and lack of communication is unacceptable, especially for an experience people plan and pay for in advance. A large part of our entire day in Rome was ruined because of Viator’s mistake and mismanagement. We are requesting a full refund for this terrible experience and the inconvenience caused. If this issue is not resolved appropriately, we will consider taking legal action. We expect accountability for the inconvenience, stress, wasted time, and poor customer experience. Based on this experience, we would not recommend booking this Vatican tour through Viato
What an amazing place to visit! The skip-the-line tickets are absolutely worth it - even though you do still have to wait in line, that line is exponentially shorter than the main one! Don't arrive too early though, as you'll be asked to leave and return perhaps 15 minutes before your entry time as the area simply cannot hold people who arrive too soon.
This was quite disappointing to us as most of the items in the museums don’t have anything to do with the Vatican. We expected to be able sit and pray in the Sistine Chapel but was herded through like cattle and there aren’t any pews in the chapel for prayer or meditation. We spent a lot of money for very little in return.
Skipbthe line is a misnomer. there are huge lines everywhere. People at museum extremely rude and will charge 8euro for a audio guide that will tell you nothing
Great experience. Definitively something to do. This tour gives you the opportunity to see one of the most iconic histories in the world.
Need more direction as far as lines to enter when booking for no wait, first in line access hard to know which line to get in.
Lovely day out but the beat the queue tickets still involve a huge queue! We also used this complaint to book tickets for tomorrow at the Colloseum but despite paying weeks ago, they have cancelled today. Very disappointing
Booked through Booking.com. Never got the tickets… Booking.com cancelled the reservation 30 minutes before we would arrive…
The 3 lane queuing system for pre booked tickets was very disjointed & quite unorganised. People exiting were having to walk through the area where people were milling about waiting to ask where they should go to wait. If people were too early they were told just to wait to the side causing more people just waiting in the area. Once the queue started to move, it was really pretty smooth going inside. The directional signage was easy to follow. Be mindful that it took almost 3 hours from start to finish to go through the museums & The Sistine Chapel. Some stairs were steep but there are lifts (although we never used these). There are plentiful gift shops if you choose to purchase gifts. I would recommend pre book ‘skip the line’ tickets otherwise non pre book people waited in a very long queue to enter. This would be hard when the weather is very hot & iwe found it warm inside the museums. Take a form of ID with you as this is asked for before any bags/phones etc go through an X-ray machine similar to airport security. I would say one thing that is missing is there are few resting areas to take the weight off your feet, otherwise almost 3 hours waiting/standing/ walking is a lot especially when it is hot
When I bought the ticket online, you didn't give me meeting point, but gave me eticket for entry. But Vatican Museum doesn't accept it and said it was only a coupon. I need to use the coupon to get the real ticket. But you didn't give me the meeting point and gave me the eticket for entry. I had to join the long line to buy the ticket again. You need to reimburse my money.
I preferred this was - the actual tickets was sent so there was no meet up point like other tour groups. However I took a screenshot if the thicket which was sent via WhatsApp and It would not work. Had to only show the original pdf.
We did not get to skip the line. The staff made us go to the back of the line. When we got in there the sistine chapel was closed that day and that was the only thing we really cared about seeing and why we bought the tickets. This was not worth spending the money and VIATOR has a Strict no refund policy. Buyer Beware!!!
Very unpleasant experience summed up in a few words: queuing, queuing and queuing and the. walking in a massive crowd which prevents you from seeing things. 🤮
This tour was a highlight on our family trip to Rome. We had a great time, learned a ton, and our guide Marcello was a pro!
Tickets delivered with smooth communications if you cannot get the tickets from the official website.
It's hard to find the entrance. I only noticed the Google Maps link via WhatsApp later. Pay attention to the link!
