Cannot believe how interesting and immersive this was. We had missed doing both Colesseum tours we had booked due to the workplace fatality, But our guide gave us so much fabulous history of Rome as the tour progressed. He could answer any question, and went over and above for us. Small groups with this guide is the way to go! Catacombs were indescribably good Thanks so much

We had Peter and he was amazing. So funny and charismatic. He was very informative and made the experience great. Highly recommend him.
Our tour guide was awesome! I wish I could remember his name, full of knowledge, friendly and a great sense of humor. The catacombs were impressive and kind of mind blowing. I highly recommend Viator for this tour
Our guide Sean was friendly and amazing! Full of interesting stories and history about the Catacombs! Very helpful getting us to a taxi so we could move on to our next tour! Thank you Sean! 👍
Vanessa is a fabulous tour guide. She was very knowledgeable, engaging, and thoughtful. Highly recommend this tour.
So cool! The tour did say it had a 10 person limit, so we booked all 10 spots....they did not limit it to 10! and they combined us with more people even though we booked all 10. That kind of sucked, we were looking forward to the small group. So it is not a small group. But was still good, we could hear the guide and did not have to wear headphones to hear him. So it was still a small-ish tour experience. Our guide was able to answer all of our questions and had good stories. It was one of my favorite tours we went on. And we went on a tour every single day! No pictures are allowed inside.
Our small group tour with Alessandra pleasantly turned out to be private. She was so sweet and gave us a very detailed history of the development of the catacombs, then took her time showing us through all the areas currently open to the public. She was wonderful.
After days of feeling like cattle herded through crowded Rome this tour was like a breath of fresh air. This is a perfect intimate tour where you won’t feel like you’re chasing around competing tour guides pushing through large crowds. Divan’s tour was amazing. I could have listened to him speak about the history of the catacombs for hours. We chose this shorter tour because I couldn’t imagine paying attention for longer than an hour or two but while I was on the tour I was hoping it wouldn’t end. Davin spoke quickly so if you have an adhd brain like mine it is perfect, maybe not if English is your not your first language. He explained the history of the catacombs and Rome in a way that was easy to follow and helped you grasp how extraordinary this piece of history is.
Mike was an incredible guide! He was funny, incredibly knowledgible, and made this such a fun experience. We really enjoyed the stories he told from the Pagan and Christian roots of this place. It absolutely opened up our minds to how these two belief systems shaped and were shaped by the Roman Empire, and how that influence is seen today. I can't recommend this tour enough!
We thought this tour was part of a Colliseum tour, but it is not. Nevertheless it was a pleasant surprise! Georgia was extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the catacombs and their history.
Divan was such an incredible guide! He made sure we knew all the history to ensure we truly felt the impact of the catacombs themselves. He answered any and all questions we had and was so friendly and sociable. A guide can make or break a tour and he definitely helped make this a memorable experience for us!
Pieter was very knowledgeable and witty my college aged son and I had a great time. The tour is about 2 hours so the TripAdvisor description wasn’t 100% accurate but totally worth it. Also not a lot of skulls like in some photos but you don’t need to see those the place is massive and super interesting. Learned a lot about Rome not just the catacombs!
We loved this tour. Carpe Diem didn’t have enough for our tour so they transferred us to a tour by Angela at Rome with Mike tours. She was very knowledgeable and her English was perfect… which we haven’t seen in other tours. If you want an English speaking guide without a strong Italian accent you may want to book as many tours as you can with Mike instead.
We both really enjoyed the tour and found Alain an entertaining guide. The experience was well worth it.
Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide ( John). It was a fun experience and we learned a lot. Perfectly fluent in English.
Fun experience for family and friends, easy guide and kind instructors. We got free drinks at the end as well.
Peter was excellent! He had great knowledge and made the entire tour interesting. Let the conversions begin. 😀 —Lisa and girls from NM
Our tour guide Sean was amazing. He is a great storyteller and was really engaging. If you are nervous, don’t be. Sean brought up the spirits with good jokes and fun stories. He also had a lot of knowledge that was interesting. Would recommend!
John was a fantastic tour guide — so knowledgeable and funny. We loved the small group and the information and artifacts were so interesting. I would highly recommend for all ages.
This was far better than the huge groups we saw entering who could barely hear or see their guide. Divan was so kind and knowledgeable about the history and made this a great experience. He also helped us find alternate activities based on our interests since our other plans for the rest of the week had to change.
This was an amazing tour and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about Rome’s rich history! Our tour guide, Peter, was excellent! Not only did he make the tour entertaining, but he also was extremely knowledgeable. The catacombs are so fascinating to get to see up close and is something you should definitely consider doing during your next visit! Plus if you’re going in the summer it’s nice and cool down there, making the tour even more comfortable.
Horrible experience with Viator. We booked a tour for today (reference 1278052797). We showed up 15 minuets early as requested. The tour operator did not show up and did not respond to email, text or phone calls. We submitted a refund request and Viator declined it. We will not use Viator in the future and strongly advise others to not book this tour.
We had Mike as a tour guide and he was great. So funny and informative, incorporating Christianity and history and tying it all together. Highly recommend you take this for something different in Rome. You will definitely learn so much!
We had a fantastic tour. Mike was great. He kept making Dad jokes and has a California accent, but he was the funniest guy we could possibly have had. I loved all the facts, but I also love that he showed us the map later of where we were underground when we were above ground. Highly recommend. If you’re claustrophobic, don’t do it but otherwise it’s super fun and really Educational.
Divan was amazing! From start to finish, he went into detail about Rome and the catacomb’s history while engaging our small group. This personable tour is a must! I wish more tours were like the one with Divan.
Informative historical presentation , very knowledgeable about the subject. Really showed why Rome is now the wonderful city it is. Best money spent so far in Rome.
Amazing tour. Mike was very knowledgable and mixed humor with history. I would definitely recommend Mike for any tour. If possible we will definitely request him for other tours as well. You can’t go wrong with him. Thank you very much.
John was our guide! He was really knowledgeable and has a great silly personality that makes the tour really come to life. We started off the first 30 minutes with history of the catacombs. Then we went into the catacomb on the second floor. I would recommend this tour, just note it is only one catacomb and did not hop around to others.
Devon was friendly and enthusiastic to share his knowledge with us! Such an interesting tour we will never forget.
Amazing experience! Our tour guide Stephen was awesome. Very knowledgeable of the history. It was worth every penny. A must see in Rome
Peter, the guide was very informative. He gave us a lot of history of Rome, and he had a great sense of humor. He had the knowledge of a college professor, and I felt that there was a lot more that he knew than he was telling us, but couldn't because of the time.
Very knowledgeable friendly guide, good pace of tour. Tour length about right. Catacombs well worth a visit
Our guide was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and sense of humor was on point! While we enjoyed the history and the journey through the catacombs, the photo used in advertising the tour is misleading. If you're wanting to see the walls of skulls, don't book this. Look for the Capuchin Crypt.
All of it was great but our best was the fresco of St Paul and St Peter. Vivan was a great guide and knew so much history about Rome. Very knowledgeable!
Such an interesting catacombs tour, even better than expected. Divan was a really personable and knowledgeable host. It was a small group and you felt as though we were delving up close into such an interesting part of history. Would highly recommend.
First off, our tour guide Heather was fantastic. She was very bubbly, fun & knowledgeable. Unfortunately, the tour was mediocre. If you’re expecting bones…don’t do this tour. The photo is misleading & there are literally no bodies or bones in these catacombs. Far outside Rome & would not do again or recommend.
Nothing was memorable except the euro32 taxi ride to the catacombs meeting site to discover it was closed. Other taxis arrived also. The tour operators stated they called me. They did not, no calls. In fact the day before I received a message to confirm the meeting time and place. Got to be joking you didn’t know catacombs would be closed Easter ahead of time. I called Viator asked for discount on next tour because I wasted money and time. Very disappointing.
Mike is a great story teller and he knows his history. I attended this tour with my 2 teenage boys, both of whom were engaged and intellectually challenged. The highlight of this tour is being within reaching distance from some of the earliest known Christian frescoes depicting Peter and Jesus Christ. It was yet another testimony of the reality of His divinity.
This tour was amazing! If you don’t go on this tour you are really missing out. It was definitely a highlight of our trip to Rome. Our guide was OUTSTANDING. I can’t remember his name but he was from South Africa and is getting married next Month.
Absolutely loved the tour guide - Heather. Very interesting tour. I actually booked this thinking it was the Capichin crypts, it’s not. The first photo of skulls is not at the catacombs, it’s a little misleading. But I highly recommend this tour!
Awesome experience packed with Christian history. Our guide Shawn was very knowledgeable and catered to all age groups on our tour. Would definitely recommend.
We booked this tour at the last minute, and we are so glad we did! Mike was a fantastic and funny tour guide - made references from Ferris Bueller to They Might Be Giants and just told us so much in a humorous and memorable way. The rest of our tour group was a tad reserved, but the four of us traveling together thought Mike was very entertaining and made us laugh out loud. Not only that, but every story he told (and he told us a LOT of information in a short time) was infused with history and respect in regard to how the Romans handled the traditions of the early Christians and their buried dead, as well as the early Popes when transforming into a Christian community. We honestly don't know how he (and the ancient people who buried the dead or painted frescoes) did not get lost in the maze(s) of the catacombs. Incredible. Lastly, the majority of the tour takes place underground where it is blissfully cool. It was an added bonus to beat the extreme heat Italy has been experiencing this summer.
Guide was professional, knowledgeable, courteous and answered all questions thoroughly. Venue was unbelievable and educational. Surpassed all expectations. Gift shop was well organized and had meaningful gifts. We arrived late because of delay finding taxis in hot crowded Rome. Guide was still giving intro and made us feel welcome. Brought us up to date as we moved to first stop.
Mike is a great tour guide. Lots of information mixed with a bit of humor. Don’t miss out on a tour with Mike!
Wealth of knowledge about the history and culture of the times of the catacombs held by Divan, our guide.
Mike shared historical events with funny and memorable ways. He answered everyone questions and was extremely involved and informative. Would definitely recommend him to others.
Wonderful tour with knowledgeable guide. The guide began the tour with a brief history of Rome and the catacombs. She shared information from the creation of the catacombs to their unearthing and preservation. Highlighted many things in the catacombs that would easily be missed without a guide. The tour lasted about 1 hour in total, whereas it was advertised as a 2 hour tour. It was also mentioned that they don’t encourage being underground for more than 45 minutes. 4 stars for the shortened duration of tour.
The original tour wasn't possible due to a closed catacombs, but they offered an alternative catacombe. The tour was very interesting with a very energetic guide, Mike.
This tour was ACE. We went with Amanda who managed to sweet talk the curators into allowing us in on a day they’d normally be closed. We saw some really interesting and unique sights during this tour, things you don’t see anywhere else. I’d visited Kutna Hora in Prague previously which is similar but this has got such a fascinating back story which Amanda told wonderfully. It’s handy that the travel between locations is included - it saves trying to arrange it yourself or long, hot walks! I found this tour absolutely fascinating, as did my boyfriend. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in the bizarre or macabre. You need the tour guide to understand what you’re looking at and why they exist.
Professionell und sehr lustig mit Guide Mike. Sehr informativ und viele Hintergrundinformationen. Leider sind die Skelette nicht mehr da.
