Max was a brilliant historian and a natural storyteller. We explored some of Rome’s major landmarks and some of the lesser known spots within a context that made them more meaningful than anything we could have read. guidebook could. Highly recommend!

Piazza Navona: Wander through one of the most (if not the most) beautiful and lively Roman squares where you can find the famous Bernini river fountains, wonderful churches and monuments, and cool spots to grab a bite. Stunning Pantheon: Enter the best preserved Roman monument that appears to you as the Romans had to see it back in time. Not much of an introduction is needed for one of the most famous buildings in the world, with groundbreaking archtecture built in 27-25 BC and technology that even modern archtects don't know how to achieve.
Campo de' Fiori is a rectangular square south of Piazza Navona in Rome, Italy, at the border between rione Parione and rione Regola. It is diagonally southeast of the Palazzo della Cancelleria and one block northeast of the Palazzo Farnese. Campo de' Fiori, translated literally from Italian, means "field of flowers".

The Colosseum is an elliptical amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy, just east of the Roman Forum. It is the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built, and is still the largest standing amphitheatre in the world, despite its age.

Massimo was wonderful, the perfect tour and amount of information for a first timer to Rome. He also showed us an amazing roman pizza place and espresso bar.
Max was very knowledgeable, engaging and personable. We very much enjoyed our walk through downtown Rome and all the special tidbits of information he shared with us.
Rome was amazing. So much history. Lots of walking. Make sure you have good shoes. Expensive but food is awesome. Have Gelato every night.
Luca, our guide, was fabulous. He contacted us the evening before our meet up to ask if we had any special wants. He exceeded our expectations with all the places he took us and all the information he imparted to us. He took us to all the usual places and then to more off the beaten path places. We saw so much in the three hours he was with us than others see in a few days. He even helped us decide on a restaurant and made our reservation - and we got right in. Luca was fun and courteous and even followed up the next morning to see if we needed any more information as to what to do and where to go. His expertise and knowledge of Rome was wonderful. I recommend him highly to anyone going to Rome.
Simone did a great job showing us around and sharing tips and tricks as the locals live. This was our second time to Rome, and everything he showed us was new to us. It was just what we wanted! Highly recommend!!
Our first day in Rome, my husband and I were a little put off by how crowded the city was, even though we are from NYC. I had messaged Simone that night that we had already seen some attractions that we did not want to revisit so he graciously customized the tour to show us other important sites and some hidden gems as well. We spent our second day in Rome with Simone, and he gave us a fresh and unique perspective of his beautiful city. He was very knowledgeable and opened our eyes to the rich historical beauty of Rome. We really enjoyed the day.
Our tour with Paola was like a relaxed stroll with an old friend. As we wandered & chatted through Monti (the Suburra in Ancient Rome), Paola pointed out interesting sites, streetscapes off the tourist tracks, as well as highlighting Rome’s ancient, medieval, renaissance & modern history. As it’s a jubilee year, we visited Santa Maria Maggiore’s holy door & then to Regoli’s pasticceria to sample the seasonal (& delicious ) beignet di San Giuseppe. The morning flew by, we loved every moment, and we cannot recommend Paola highly enough.
Matteo was a great guide! He took us around the streets of Rome for some photographic angles, assisted with ideas and perspective. Also, the idea of capturing "Rome" was an interesting concept for me.... trying to capture the essence in its people, its buildings. It was a good way of focusing on how to feature Rome through my photos and not just another city. His knowledge of Roman history was an added bonus. Matteo also took us to his favourite coffee shop, pizza stop and gelato. All just great! Matteo took his time and we did not feel rushed during our ramble through Rome's streets. I would highly recommend Matteo's friendly, informative and professional service. Grazie mille!
We had a delightful time with Daniele - he is charming, interesting and knowledgeable. This was part of my “Ciao, Bella!” trip, that I was hosting and as requested he showed us both highlights and hidden gems. A lovely man and a lovely tour -thank you
Simone tailored the tour to our interests. We found and learned about some wonderful hidden gems all in a relaxed and easy tour. We also came away with some great restaurants off the beaten tourist track. We’d definitely recommend Simone - thanks for a great tour!
I have been to Rome many times but saw places on our tour with Simone that I had never heard of. Her knowledge of the social and political history was impressive and as a native Roman she was able to give nuances of the day tto day lives as lived today and in the past
Fun local tour of Rome with Simone. He made the tour enjoyable, informative and remained flexible. Would highly recommend him as a local tour guide.
Matteo knows this part of Rome quite well. He knew all the best street corners and architectural elements and how to photograph them. He was able to design the walk with emphasis to my interests - that being street photography. He is also very knowledgeable regarding technical details of photography and will give you useful insights to the extent you want them. In summary, it was great way to photograph a unique part of Rome.
Matteo is an easygoing friendly bloke whose love of Roma is evident. We strolled the streets of Trastevere, keeping an eye out for likely photographs, & chatting. He helped me to see what the leading lines might be in photos of buildings & together we looked out for light & shade. In terms of photography, it was a very useful 3 hours & got me off my lazy iPhone & onto the camera. I could have spent the whole day wandering the backstreets of Roma with Matteo. Thank you.
Paola was incredibly knowledgeable about Roman history. She taught my husband, my two teenagers and I an incredible amount of information and showed us beautiful places that we never would have found on our own. She also answered many general questions we had about Italy, such as how the government system works etc. It was a wonderful day with Paola and we highly recommend her. Thank you Paola for such an incredible experience.
I strongly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn more about the history of Rome and to see the most beautifull corners of that big city! Nico the perfect guide for this tour! He knows all the interresting facts about every places we visit and it’s very nice to discuss with him about history and travels! I will surely book an other tour with him when I will come back to Rome!!
Claudio was the best guide we could wish for. He showed us amazing places. listened very good to our wishes and knew a lot about Rome. If we ever coming back we let him guided us again
We spent a morning with Francesca on a Highlights & Hidden Gems tour of Rome. We really enjoyed our time with her. Francesca is a lovely person. Her impressive art history and theology knowledge kept us entertained with little stories and details. The time flew by. She was excellent. We would highly recommend her.
Would definitely recommend With Locals guide Simone. The Hidden Gems tour was perfect for us and unearthed some great locations for us the visit later in our holiday.
We had an incredible experience with Simone as our guide in Rome! He showed us not only the iconic highlights of the city but also took us to hidden gems that truly brought the history and charm of Rome to life. Simone’s knowledge and passion for the city were evident, and he shared fascinating stories that made each site even more special. Simone really enjoys guiding you through the city and story telling. Makes interesting and fun to learn about Rome and its culture. Thank you, Simone we had a great time meeting you and learning about Rome!
Hello fellow travelers. We had Arianna show us all the Dark and interesting parts of Rome. This was a very fun and historical tour! Arianna had a story to tell on every corner, bridge and alley. She told us of the dark past of Rome and how the society came up with inventive ways to mitigate the problems! Overall I highly recommend this toyr and would love to meet back up with her again given the chance!
Our group of three took a tour with Nico on our first afternoon in Rome. Nico was engaging and interactive. It was a great way to start our visit.
Nico was great. We highly recommend him. He gave us just the right balance of history and an understanding of the city. By the end of the tour, we had a great appreciation of the culture, buildings and neighborhoods. Definitely request Nico!
We had Nico for a 3 hour tour of Rome and its history. He was fantastic. Great knowledge and took us to some amazing locations. Not your average history tour as he showed us things you would simply walk past but were absolutely fascinating. From the Public water fountains and how to drink like a Roman to his secret gem for food (don’t want to spoil it!). And his hidden location gem in the city plus the reveals of some of the sights just blew us away. I don’t want to say anything more about hem as the surprise we got when we saw these sights was fabulous. If (when) we get to Rome we would be definitely booking Nico again.
great tour with Manuela…very thoughtful and flexible… would tour with her again anytime..adjusted our tour at our request to include sites we had not seen on other tours!
Our walking tour with Simone was the highlight of our Roman holiday. Despite the city's summer heat, the experience remained enjoyable, thanks to Simone's engaging storytelling and thoughtful pacing. We opted to explore beyond the usual central sites, diving into the history of Piazza Navona, Campo Dei Fiori, and then venturing further to Trastevere, Gianicolo, and the Jewish Ghetto. Simone's deep knowledge and passion for these areas made the history come alive, giving us a unique perspective on Rome that we wouldn't have found on a typical tour. Highly recommended!
We were fortunate to have Simone as our Tour Guide in Rome in August. Knowledgeable, practical, positive and well spoken-he put so much effort into our three hours together. It makes all the difference to have an expert show you the sights, explain so much, tell you the helpful secrets -all while being friendly and tailoring the tour to our interests and needs. He found us some great spots to rest and recharge and we also visited a restaurant recommendation from Simone - excellent food and service. We will have no hesitation to contact Simone for another tour when we are next in Rome.
Very good tour. Private tour with pleasant guide. Went with 15 year old in the heat of August, but still we enjoyed it. Did not view “major” sites except Piazza Nuovona. Would recommend as long as you know what to expect
Simone is such a wonderful guide and a human being. He tailored the trip to my needs and interest, answered all my questions with an obvious depth of knowledge, and was a really fun guy to spend an afternoon with! Can’t reccommend him highly enough - he went above snd beyond all my expectations.
Daniele was excellent! We did Rome Highlights and Hidden Gems and he managed to adapt the tour to our requests nicely and with no issues. He really knows the city and managed to let us feel like we know it too. Me and my family loved it.
Our walking tour was called Hidden Gems of Rome and our guide Nico was definitely a gem! My daughter and I had such a great time walking and talking with Nico that the time flew by. We learnt so much about this wonderful city and highly recommend both Tours with Locals and Nico to anyone planning a visit.
Simona was a fantastic tour guide, entertaining, extremely knowledgeable about Rome and had wonderful recommendations on additional locations to visits, eat etc.
Interesting sites, not crowded. Guide was personable and knowledgeable. Best gelato in town. Prepare to walk full three hours.
Matteo met me in Rome for a three hour experience in photography. He was able to share places in Rome that I would never have found myself. We explored a parts of the city that the local people enjoyed. Magnificent churches, philosophy of photography discussion, use of light, photographing people, how to tell a story, visiting a fabulous cafe and even a delicious biscuit shop with biscuit cooking while we were there. I am so glad that I spent my time with Matteo.
Francesca is a very knowledgeable guide and did a great job in taking us to different spots of the city, I would highly recommend her for your trip ☺️
We arrived in Rome a few days prior to our tour with Simone. His passion, knowledge and love for his city was evident throughout the tour. It opened our eyes to Rome in a way we have never seen and cannot recommend him enough. The hidden details that surround the city were suddenly right in front of us with detailed explainations and colorful stories. For a native Roman, his English was absolutley perfect!
We had a great day with Simone. We saw neighborhoods and streets we never would have found on our own. Simone is fun and knowledgeable and adapted the tour to our walking pace. He also walked us back to our hotel so we wouldn’t get lost!
Daniele was a wonderful guide. He is an architect who has taught in the United States, and is very knowledgeable about Roman history, architecture and sights. We had already been in Rome for several days, but learned so much more in our time with him. Highly recommend!
We requested Simone for our tour after a great experience two years ago. Simone is passionate about his city. He’s a great historian and explains the history like a story. Our 3 hours flew by so quickly. We highly recommend Simone for any of the local tours. You won’t be disappointed 😊 Kathy and Ron PS his recommendations for dining were also spot on!
Simone was a great tour guide. He took us around Rome to all the key sites and was very knowledgeable and personable. Would highly recommend him.
Fantastic tour with Gianmaria! A highlight during our time in Rome! His knowledge of his city, the many places we visited, the pace was great! Highly recommend Gianmaria & Withlocals, 10/10
Simone met us on time and was very friendly. In the 3 hours we walked through the small streets to all of the main attractions avoiding the big crowds. Simone was very interesting, amusing and knowledgeable indeed. Great tour and great guide! We took away his saying “when you see an open doorway, walk through it and see what’s there”.
My friends and I truly enjoyed our time with Matteo exploring the streets of Travastere in Rome. He is a wonderful, warm person who is a delightful photographer - both from creative and technical perspectives. He is great at making the personal connection to the people he is guiding. In our group we had both beginner and more advanced photographers and he was able to provide each of us a great experience. We met him at 5pm and ended the tour at 8pm - this was a great time to do the tour for the light, shadows, and sunset colors over the river. I hope to see Matteo again someday for another great experience in Rome.
We did the usual tours of the Vatican and the Colosseum, but this one was our favorite. Our Guide, Simone, was very engaging and super friendly, and taught us a bunch of things we never would’ve learned without him. We saw neighborhoods we never would’ve seen and had food we never would’ve tasted, and it was just such an enjoyable tour. I highly recommend you do this over anything else you plan to do in Rome. It was well worth the price.
Paola was a great tour guide, who spoke perfect English . She was very knowledgeable on the history of Rome, and major sights. Paola took us to interesting neighbourhoods which we would never have found on our own, and we even got to try the local Pizza Bianca. My family and I spent a very enjoyable 3 hours with Paola, and I would definitely recommend her tour to anyone wanting to explore the hidden gems of Rome.
We had a wonderful, fun and enjoyable time with Paola! She pointed out so many interesting details about the city and its history that we would have never otherwise considered or noticed. It further enhanced our appreciation of Rome outside of the known landmarks. Paola is a true Roman and she is proud to share her city and all of its beauty. My wife and I felt like family by the end of the tour. Recommended!
I spent the afternoon with Francesca learning about the history, art and culture of Rome. Francesca was so knowledgeable and her passion for Rome was undeniable. Spending the afternoon with Francesca was such a fun and amazing way to explore Rome! By the end of our time together, I felt as though I had made a new friend.
We were a group of 4 who walked with a local in Rome, whose name was Paola. We met at the agreed time and had a interesting and fascinating guided tour of the local area, In a city full of such iconic buildings, it was good to have a break from the hustle bustle as we walked along colourful old cobbled streets with Paola pointing out things that we would have just walked past on our own. The walk definitely added to our brief time in Rome and would highly recommend it.
