Rome Photo Masterclass: Private Travel & Street Tour And Workshop

I had the privilege of spending about 4 hours with Marco Bulgarelli, a professional photographer, as my "mentor" and instructor. Marco is very passionate about his skill and understands and anticipates where and when the best photo opportunities could be. He placed us in locations to teach different techniques in identifying and shooting interesting images of people with the wonderful background Ancient Rome. My goal was to learn street photography, and indeed, Marco opened up a world that I had never experienced. Through his own passion of capturing special moments and communicating a message to the viewer, I learned to more critically set up my own images. Thanks to Marco --I have lots of new things to practice at home, with my mirrorless camera. FYI--it is a good idea to have a goal in mind of what you would like to focus on during your session. He is best utilized by those who have experience with their camera and photography and want to advance their skills.

A fantastic afternoon with Marco as he taught, demonstrated and assisted in taking photos of Rome. I was interested to learn how to capture a city’s personality through street photography rather than through the standard post card photos I always take. I got some great photos. And look forward to using my new skills on future vacations. Marco was very skilled abd patient. Highly recommended.

Our morning session with Marco was exceptional. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable but also he is a very good teacher. He took us to several spots around Rome where we could practice taking pictures and he would critique them and offer suggestions on how to take a better photo. A very enjoyable day with a very nice man.

Marco was extremely professional and passionate about photography and passing on his expertise. He spent time getting to know exactly what I was interested in learning and taught me how to utilize my camera settings to improve the focus, clarity and composition of my images. He provided an honest critique of the images, the techniques I had under control and those that would improve with time and practice. I highly recommend Marco if you are interested in learning about photography in an unforgettable setting.

My wife and I had a fantastic photography tour in Rome with Marco. He is very experienced and knowledgeable in photography and photographic techniques. I was shooting medium format with a Fujiflim GFX 100S and my wife was shooting with her phone camera (Samsung Note 9). Marco taught my wife how to better utilize her phone camera as well as improve her photographic compositions and techniques. He helped me understand some of the unique aspects of shooting with medium format. We did the combined day and night photo tour, and we highly recommend that tour so you can practice your techniques during the day to be prepared to take some beautiful photos at blue hour and nighttime. Marco has lived nearly his whole life in Rome, so he knows some great locations for photos that tourists will never know about. We give Marco our highest recommendation!

Marco was full of professional tips that have improved my photography. We spent time with him on a very cold day, yet had so much fun going to the places he shared with us. He told us about Gigetto, a wonderful eatery where we had a delicious lunch (the fried artichokes are amazing).

Marco is really talented at both sharing his mastery and bringing out the beauty in his subjects. I was amazed at his ability to understand my needs. What a lovely city, what a brilliant guy!

Beforehand, Marco asked me what I wanted to learn and what type of places I would like to photograph. He then planned a wonderful individualized itinerary that allowed me to achieve my goals for the day. Marco is a great teacher, repeating certain principles which helped me to evaluate every subject as a photographer rather than as a picture-taking tourist. I therefore learned a great deal about the aesthetic as well as the technical side of photography. Marco is also a very generous teacher, not holding back knowledge as he said some of his teachers had done. Finally, Marco is a very amiable person, easy to get along with. He was attentive to my personal needs, helping me to look for my lost glasses and taking me to a money exchange with a great exchange rate. He did everything to make my day profitable and enjoyable, and I came away eager to take another photo tour with him. Thanks Marco!

The workshop was amazing. Marko perfectly explains the intricacies of photography techniques. He played according to my level of knowledge, adapted the route according to my interests and needs. And he has enormous patience. Definitely recommend!

Marco brings an intensity and professionalism I would expect from a college professor. His English is excellent and he knows where to go throughout the city in any time of the day to get great photographs. I'm looking forward to my next class with him.

I'm so happy I found Marco's workshop, it was a highlight of my Rome experience. Marco is very thoughtful, he personalizes the experience to meet all your needs and expectations and perhaps even overcome them, like in my case - I was shooting with my film camera so I didn't know the results until I got home and developed the film and I absolutely love it. He is a professional who knows photography craft and understands it on many levels. We had a great conversation and time flew! I definitely recommend to take a private tour with Marco, next time I'm in Italy I'll do it again!

I did a 2-day workshop with Marco in early October 2020 and he helped me immensely with my photography! He took great care to understand what I wanted, my current talent level and started to develop my skills from there. Marco is an awesome instructor and will make you a better photographer in just a few hours! He took me to some amazing places as well that are "off the beaten path" of the standard Rome spots but made for fantastic photo subjects. I would highly recommend this course to anyone wanting to get great Rome pictures and become a better photographer!

Marco and I spent a day together shooting around beautiful Rome. This workshop was a gift from my dear friends for my birthday, as they knew about my passion for film photography. I am certainly far from being a professional, I just find pleasure in memorizing small moments in the city. Marco fully respected my interests and level and organized our tour based on them. He gave me valuable tips on composition, light, positioning myself and we shot architecture, people, landscapes and anything else beautiful we came across. We worked both with his digital and my film camera. Marco was patient, polite, considerate, incredibly knowledgeable and interesting and with a great command of English. Our shooting session was not only pleasant for me but also very useful - I keep hearing his advice in my head every time I shoot now. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to expand their knowledge of photography, discover beautiful corners of the city and all that - in the pleasant company of Marco.

I organised a half day photo tour with Marco, as I had recently purchased my first DSLR camera I found it a very useful session in terms of how to get the best from using the camera and street photography. Marco can also show you some food places to eat if you are interested.

Marco was a great guide. Very accommodating, very willing to teach and offer constructive criticism. He tailored the tour to my specific requests (I. E. Street photography). I would highly recommend if you are interested in improving your photography skills while exploring one of the most incredible cities.

I can not say how much we enjoyed this tour. Marco spent a lot of time teaching us how to frame our photos and would give us tips on how to adjust each one until we got it just right. I am an self taught intermediate level photographer and felt like this was the crash course in photography that I needed. He took us to spots we would not have thought to go, and we got a lot of awesome unique shots. He told us if we wanted to get shots without people in them to go back out around midnight, So we did exactly that. We went back out that night and followed the same path Marco took us during the day and got some awesome night photos. I was thankful for everything he taught me because my photos turned out great!!!! I was really happy with how much time he spent with us and for all the tips. I really feel like I have grown as a photographer and it has inspired me to take more classes. I am very happy we took this tour and would recommend it to anyone who loves photography and would like a unique perspective of Rome. I will try to remember to post some photos after I get home.

This tour was part photography workshop, and part cultural tour of Rome’s picturesque areas. Marco looked at our photos to see what we liked to shoot and then customized an itinerary for us based on what we wanted to shoot and what our skill level was. Marco took us on a guided walking tour through the Piazza Mattei, the Jewish Ghetto, and Trastevere areas. It was amazing to see parts of Rome through a photographer’s perspective while also having a workshop on the principles and techniques of street photography. As a teacher, he is very patient, and enthusiastic about helping you get the photos you’re striving for. We highly recommend this tour for all levels of photographers. We enjoyed working with Marco so much that we signed up for an additional night photography tour with him.

Wow! We had such a great time with Marco. We are beginner photographers and Marco was very patient, helpful and encouraging with us the whole time. Marco showed some interesting places of Rome, taught some basic as well as advanced techniques and explained Italian cultures. Marco is a wealth of knowledge and is adept at sharing it in appropriate doses. He took every opportunity to go above and beyond to be accommodating for us. It's well worth it.

I really enjoyed this day! Marco took the time to understand my expectations, my level and answer my first questions before starting the tour. I had a really beautiful day, and in addition to the beautiful photos that I could take home, all his advice will be very useful for me in the future. I recommend everyone to go on this tour, to take beautiful photos of Rome of course but also to improve his photographic technique and the behaviors to adopt to take beautiful photos.
