Rome Catacombs Underground Tour With Optional Colosseum Visit

Very expensive for what it included. The stops were interesting but the cost was not worth it.......

This tour was amazing!!!! Like nothing that I have ever experienced. Our guide was knowledgeable and respectful. She made sure that everyone stayed together as it is easy to lose people down there.

Hello! I don’t usually leave reviews and am very easily satisfied, but I do want to leave a review because the description and details included here are not the experience we received. First, the people involved were very kind. They were friendly. But, the offering by the company was more about ensuring we arrived at the locations and less a tour offering itself. They took us by taxi to the Catacombs where they purchased us a tour ($10) offered by the Catacombs (when this was supposed to be a small group tour). This tour was great, but we could have accomplished this independently and the location was not busy or allowed benefit from having a tour guide that we couldn’t accomplish independently. We then were brought by taxi to the Coliseum where we were left to navigate a self-directed audio tour that we downloaded the night before. The audio tour did not align with the audio tour numbers of the Coliseum and, because we do not know the history of the area nor directions of the ruins, we did not know where to go and when to play each portion. We were not given any instructions of its use. There is nothing “live” about this tour at the Coliseum. I arranged this many weeks ahead of our trip and am disappointed by the Coliseum portion of this tour.

We were surprised to learn as we were on the bus that this Colosseum “tour“ did not include a tour guide of the Colosseum. They just dropped us off and pointed us to the line and it also did not include entrance to the underground part of the Colosseum which others did, so therefore we feel it was way overpriced and mis-represented what was included. Not a good experience; we do NOT recommend

Tour details were vague and inferred there would be a guided tour of the Colosseum which was not the case. We were shown where to enter it and then left alone to self guide. The tour guide at off site catacombs (different than the initial guide) was knowledgeable answering any questions before, during and after the 20 minutes tour. The entire tour was not worth the price paid.

You owe me 700 dollars. It was supposed to be underground coliseum and it wasn't total rip off . If I don't get a refund in 24 hours I am going to put this all over social media. It was very disappointing

Good balance of learning the history of Rome at the catacombs and exploring the main attractions in the city. Appreciated they made it easy to get to and explore the catacombs, with a pleasant drive back to the colosseum. The colosseum was sold out that day, and we just wanted right in with the tickets provided.

Kristina was wonderful and informative. The ear buds were clear and easy to keep in my ear. After the catacombs and forum, the ticket to the palisade and the rest of the area was good for 24 hrs but only a one time entry that could be split in two days as it is a lot of walking.

I think for the money, you can’t pack the vans with so many people and then have no air on a hot day. It was just completely unreasonable. The premium charged over the ticket prices is clearly for the transportation. They also did not work through the colosseum closure very well. Poor communication. Two stars because the catacomb tour guide was great.

Christina was very knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating! The catacombs tour guide was very knowledgeable and made the experience very interesting. Christina provided fantastic help in getting us to the Roman Forums without having to wait in line as well! Highly recommend!

Cristina was a wonderful guide—engaging and knowledgeable, but also very respectful of different beliefs as she brought the history of early Christianity to life. She had a real gift for teaching rather than preaching, which made the Catacombs especially interesting. One gentle warning from our experience: if only part of your group is continuing to the Colosseum, make sure the names on the tickets match the people going—we accidentally sent Greg and Stephanie with tickets in our names, and they couldn’t get in.

We bought the tour for the catacombs and colosseum including seeing under the colosseum. It wound up being through Show Me Italy. Our “tour guide” was nice, but spoke so quietly I can’t tell you her name. All she did was arrange a driver to take us to the Domitilla catacombs (where she handed us to an actual guide, and that was good) then arrange a driver to take us to the colosseum, where she handed us our tickets and said “Bye!” We had no guide at the colosseum. We did not get to see underneath the colosseum. Overall, extremely disappointed in this tour and unhappy we paid so much for an experience we didn’t get to have.

The Roman Catacombs was really fun and worth it. The fee wasn't too bad if you go with a family of 4. It was a bit short but the reason is valid. The deeper you go it's cold which is nice and the walls and artifacts amazing. A decent crowd size so no pushing or squeezing in. The staff was very nice and helpful with answering questions. They gave us a very good tour.

The visit to the catacombs was informative and well worth it. The tunnels were amazing to see. After the catacombs, we toured the Colosseum which was also amazing! We couldn’t do the Forum/Paladtne Hill in the same day, but were happy the ticket was good for 24 hours, as we came back the next day, refreshed!

Nice tour overall. If you're claustrophobic, this may not be the best tour for you as you explore the cave and tight spaces.

The catacombs were truly amazing i would highly recommend it. The colleseum not so. They allow too many people in its like a cattle market

Don’t overlook the instructions to book under your full name exactly as it reads on your passport. We were not allowed into the colosseum because my husband booked under his nickname. Above and beyond that, our tour guide added little to no value. If I had it to do over, I would have taken a taxi and purchased the tickets directly, saved a little and not have to squeeze into a taxi with strangers.

We had so great experience. When I booked catacombs underground I got mixed up with Colleseum underground and only later realised Its different underground, but after visiting catacombs I was so happy that we had a chance to see all underground. It is really impressive, it is good bit colder, so would recommend to take a scarf or cardigan. Ceiling in the catacombs were pretty high, didn't feel trapped, so many tunnel ls around would recommend it definitely. After our tour continued to Colleseum in there we had our audio guide and it was perfect, we could see all we wanted and last was Roman Forum its right beside Colleseum got to see it all it was really hot so we didn't spend much time there but was impressed. All that time we where supervised by lovely guide Kristina. We had a transfer to every spot and Kristina have told us so much about a Rome and her voice was perfect frequency, you know the way it could be too sleepy but no, was really great to listen her.

We booked our tour through Viator and were lucky to have Kristina as our guide. She was absolutely fantastic! Kristina was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate, explaining everything clearly and in great detail in both English and Russian. She made the tour enjoyable and special for everyone. We are very happy with the experience and highly recommend both Viator and Kristina.

Misleading title. Title describes this as a guided tour but is not is an audio guilde. The audio guilde did not work and so complicated to use. It was a total waste of money so disappointed buyer beware about this tout not recemendexd

Christina was very kind and helpful. She made sure we was comfortable and gave us a warm hand off to the tour guide in the catacombs. She waited for us to return and took us to the next stop.

Our guides were very knowledgeable, pick up and drop offs at the meeting spot were well handled and the experience itself was amazing

Krystina or Christina not sure how to spell her name but she was amazing. She was very knowledgable and helped us find local places to eat as well since we didn't have any idea what was good. She was the best tour guide we’ve had so far in Italy. We loved her!!

This tour is misleadingly advertised. It’s a small-group tour of the catacombs, but not of the Colosseum that part is essentially just a ticket drop-off. Communication was a mess from the start: the tour company called at 10am asking where we were, claiming they’d told us to arrive then, even though the app clearly listed a 10:30am start time. We arrived at 10:28. After the catacombs, instead of heading to the Colosseum, they drove us 30 minutes in the opposite direction to drop off another couple at a different tour, then backtracked to finally bring my family to the Colosseum. And “bring” is generous they dropped us off with tickets and left, no guide, no assistance. They also never mentioned we’d need ID to enter. Luckily we had photos of our IDs saved on our phones, or we wouldn’t have gotten in at all. The one star is entirely for the catacombs portion that guide was excellent and genuinely informative. But that credit belongs to the catacombs site guides, not this tour company, since we were just handed off to them. As for the Colosseum “tour,” there wasn’t one.

We thought we had booked the Colosseum underground tour also but didn’t realise until 48 hours before when we received a text asking if we were able to move our tour as the guide was unwell. It was only at this point that the company outlined what was involved. Communication was quick and efficient and the tour actually went ahead as planned. The Catacombs visit was interesting and was done with a guide who worked there. The company only provided transportation to and from the Catacombs, the rest we had to do on our own which involved walking from their office to the Coloseum. We had an audio guide for the Colosseum which was actually more confusing than anything. We would have preferred an actual guide or at least for someone from the company to walk us to the Colosseum and show us the entrance. The ticket allowed us to take our time which was good and then we could do the Forum on our own. This tour is good if you are looking at it purely from an ease of logistics side in that your transport to the Catacombs as well as tickets are all sorted but don’t expect a full guided tour.

Our tour guide Christina was very helpful through the whole process. We had a booked a tour with another company prior to this one and had them cancel 1 week prior to our tour. Show me Italy stepped up and delivered on our Colosseum and catacombs tour. Definitely would recommend this tour!

Booked a tour that in the description included access to the underground at the Coliseum. Our tickets did not reflect what we paid for. I have tried to find direct contact information to resolve this with the tour company but have not been successful.

This wasn't bad just not what we expected. The colsseum portion is completely solo, independent of the guide along with the Roman forum and Palantine Hill. The only assisted portion is the catacombs which were neat but you don't get to go down very far so no bones or tomb artifacts can be seen. This does not include the arena floor or the underground portion at the colsseum. Knowing what i know now I wouldn't suggest adding the arena floor, you pretty much get that anyway but I would try harder to find the underground tour. I wish this part would have included the guide just to learn more about what we were looking at. There are people everywhere lots of walking and kinda hard to snap quality photos but the place is pretty neat so it's all still worth it.

Can I leave zero stars? We never went on this experience because it was an outright lie! It’s sold as colosseum including underground plus catacombs. 2 days before, we got a WhatsApp msg saying no colosseum was included, did we want to BUY colosseum tix in addition? No underground could ever be accommodated. Well this is classic bait and switch! So friggin mad We bought this mainly for colosseum and underground. We canceled and got a full refund but 2 days before while we’re already on our trip and busy with other things; utterly unacceptable! Buy your tix from the colosseum directly. Don’t trust any third party vendors

Kristina was a wonderful tour guide and coordinator. She would have a very difficult job, coordinating more than one tour, for different people, at a time, and she did it masterfully today. She was such a knowledgeable resource, and caring guide, the experience wouldn’t have been the same without her! The visit to the catacombs was fascinating, walking on the same earth that they did all those years ago, was humbling. The tour through the Cappuccini Crypt and museum, was stunning in the most unbelievable way. An indescribable experience.

Unusual and interesting tour about a not so obvious part of Rome , we had a great guide and it was a welcome relief to be underground during the heatwave

This tour experience was so great! Kristina was so kind from the beginning and she provided a lot of facts we found interesting. We had a great time at the Catacombs!! We really appreciated the transportation and then dropping us off right in front of the colosseum even though the rest of our group had a different tour package. That was so accommodating and easy for us.

The catacombs were cool- just don’t think it was worth the money honestly.. and the audio guides were really hard to follow for the Roman Forum we didn’t end up using them at all for the coliseum- and also only given 30 mins between coliseum and when we needed to meet the group for catacombs so that kind of sucked. The description of this tour is also quite confusing so make sure you read it carefully and know your ‘options’

Please be careful when booking this tour. It says Catacombs and Colloseum, but we ended up on a tour that did not include the Colloseum. Viator's booking for this is not clear. The tour company let us know 2 days before that the Colloseum was not included (too late to cancel) and offered to help with alternative arrangements but then never got back to us. Day of the tour the app sent us to the wrong location (in fact, they said the meeting point was the Colloseum) and we had to race a 1/2 mile to get to the correct location. I reached out to Viator, but was essentially told it was our own fault.

The tour was not marketed as it was online. We were also sent to three different locations and missed the first hour of our tour. Very unorganized.

I booked the Catacombs and Colosseum experience, which was advertised as running from 10:00 a.m. to approximately 12:15 p.m. As with most travelers, our itinerary had some flexibility, but it was not possible to completely rearrange our day at the last minute. On Saturday evening before the tour, while we were traveling, I received a voicemail stating that our start time had been moved to 9:00 a.m. and that we would also need to split up the Colosseum portion of the experience. Because it was Sunday and the office was closed, I had no way to contact the company. Then, at 7:00 a.m. on Monday—the morning of the tour—I received a WhatsApp message confirming that we needed to arrive earlier and that the Colosseum portion had been moved to 1:30 p.m., which conflicted with other prepaid plans we had already made. When I explained that these changes no longer worked for our itinerary and politely requested a cancellation and refund, the company stopped responding altogether. Thankfully, after I provided Viator with the voicemail and WhatsApp messages documenting the changes and lack of communication, Viator issued a full refund. I understand that unexpected changes can happen, but clear communication and responsive customer service are essential. Unfortunately, my experience with the tour provider fell well short of that expectation.

Good communication. They had to cancel the catacombs portion due to low numbers. Offered to refund that part. The Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill part is a self guided audio tour. You can go at your own pace. We saw a lot and learned a lot through it.

Although I did enjoy the catacombs, when we finally did get there. But my overall experience was very disappointing. It was not worth what I paid. We did not leave on time. We were crowded inside a van not everyone had a seatbelt which I feel is extremely dangerous. It was advertised as an underground Rome tour, that including the Catacombs as well as the underground area floor of the Colosseum: both being guided tours.

We had a tour with Kristin - she was wonderful! We booked through Viator which led to some issues, but Kristin did everything she could to help us resolve this, including letting us use her personal hotspot. Very friendly and the tour was very interesting.

Great experience, our tour guide Kristina was wonderful, narrating the history of early Christianity and the catacombs, almost transporting us back in time on the drive there. On the drive back she told us about other hidden underground experiences within ancient Rome, as well as amazing restaurants near the Colosseum.

We booked colleseum underground tour with colleseum access but then told no we go to catacombs that are not at colleseum and we did not get any access or see the colleseum very poor booking, the guide was great though not her fault just bad company
