The Vatican guide at the Catacombs site was great and took time to answer all our questions. It has a lot of steps as expected. The Viator guide did a good job giving details about the history and ruins we passed on the drive to and from the Catacombs. The one bad thing was the headset system cut out for as much as 50% of the drive. Linking three vans might not be a good choice.

Itinerary
Meet your guide in central Rome in front of the Fontana del Tritone. After a short introduction, your small group sets off for a day beneath the city.
Just a short walk away, descend beneath the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione into the Capuchin Crypts. With an audio guide, explore chapels lined with the bones of generations of friars and learn how these displays reflect a long monastic tradition. (Not included on the Catacmobs Only tour)
Settle into a private van and ride toward the catacombs on the edge of the city. Along the way, your guide points out the ancient Appian Way, the towering Aurelian Walls, and the grassy sweep of the Circus Maximus.
Head underground into one of Rome's early Christian catacombs, following narrow corridors past frescoed chambers and burial niches once reserved for martyrs and popes. Your guide traces the stories of the worshippers who gathered here in secret.
Hop in your van for a smooth ride back into central Rome. You will be conveniently dropped off at the original meeting point for the tour, making it easy to grab a bite or connect to public transportation.

Sam was both educational and entertaing and a great guide. It was a very good day trip which I can highly reccomend.
Great experience. Small group is the way to go.
Very good and knowledgeable guides, it’s a must! I would do the later time, as you’ll have more time to do tiger things during the day. You don’t need the sun for the tour.
This was an amazing experience! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about her tour. I left with a far greater understanding of early Christianity after we visited the catacombs. I have always known of St. Francis but really knew nothing of the capuchin monks, their origin and their mission which is nothing short of amazing.
Loved this tour! Enjoyed learning the history and seeing these fascinating sites. Guide was great. Everyone worked hard during a transportation strike and day of protests to make sure we had a wonderful time!
I found myself listening to every word…in awe…Fiona was a wonderful tour guide! There were steps, but it was manageable.
good tour , interesting but hard to hear guide at first. Capuchin crypts very interesting , transport to the catacombs of Rebecca, also very interesting
A memorable long morning. We would never have seen so much in such a short time. Easy and fascinating.
Paula was great. I do wish the catacomb guide didn’t rush through the actual catacombs. But Paula was great and it was very informative
Extremely interesting tour! The museum with audio was very good and the crypts were extremely well preserved. The catacombs outside the city were interesting too. I think our tour would have liked to spend time in the pre archaeological area before the catacombs, as were near the last tour of the day. our tour director was informative and gave excellent insight and suggestions for after.
The crypts and catacombs itself were incredible. I struggled with the tour company for this one because they essentially handed you a recorder and headphones, not sure what they provided at the crypt. The catacombs our group was lumped with a larger group so it was to big for my taste which I why I booked with a tour company instead of going direct. Again, the activity itself was memorial and highly recommend going but I guess the upside was transportation. Not having to worry about that was nice.
The museum about the Capuchin friars was very interesting. The crypts were very moving. The catacombs were very enlightening & our archeological guide, Francesca, was amazing.
We walked to the Capuchin Crypts near the meeting place. It was unsettling to visit, to say the least. Next we traveled by van outside the city to see the catacombs in San Callisto. Many steps underground to view the maze of tombs dating from the 2nd century! Fascinating!
Fantastic tour! One of the best we have been on! Sylvia was a very informative tour guide and we could hear her so well. We especially loved the headset devices she provided.
It's not really a small group. 18 people is not the definition of small. The crypt was interesting for 5 minutes, the catacombs for 10. Just an ok experience.
David was a great tour guide and had great comments on modern and historical life in Rome
David was fantastic as a tour guide. He not only talked about the catacombs but also so much Roman history. Totally recommend him.
Outstanding Experience...... very interesting I would recommend this to everyone The guide was very knowledgeable
We had a wonderful experience on our tours of the Catacombs of San Sebastiano and the Capuchin Crypt in Rome. Our tour guide, David, from the Tour Guide was outstanding! He was punctual, professional, reliable, and extremely knowledgeable about Roman history. What truly made this experience special was that David is a history teacher with an impressive depth of knowledge about Rome. Although our tour focused on the catacombs and the Franciscan crypt, he went above and beyond our expectations by sharing fascinating historical information during our car ride to the sites. His explanations gave us a much deeper understanding of Rome’s rich history and made the entire experience even more meaningful. This was our first time visiting Italy, and we booked several tours with different companies throughout our trip. David truly stood out because of his expertise, professionalism, and passion for history. It was clear that the tour company made an excellent choice by having someone with his background and qualifications guide their guests. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Rome, especially those who want more than just a sightseeing experience. David made history come alive, and we are grateful for such a memorable experience. Thank you for providing such an exceptional guide! CHECK OUT THE TOUR GUIDE!!
This was a great tour. I would suggest don’t take much time at all in the museum part as you won’t have much time to see the bones. Our guide did mention it but the time flew by. The catacombs next were amazing.
Such a unique and interesting tour. Both the crypts and catacombs were fascinating sites. Our tour guide I. was informative and helpful. The ride to and from the catacombs was comfortable.
Fiona was very informative. Her knowledge of Roman history was immense. She was grace under pressure when our transport vans were late due to road closures. She also recommended a great place for gelato!
The crypt is a strange and macabre experience. The audio guide for the museum and crypt was so-so. The guide staff was knowledgeable about the catacombs. The catacombs were worth the tour. If you are claustrophobic or have difficulty walking on uneven surfaces, this is not the tour for you.
This was an interesting experience to have in Rome, and we would absolutely recommend it to other travelers! The crypts and catacombs come with deep history that we did not know about prior to this tour. Book this experience if you have a free day in Rome!
Paola was our guide. She was amazing! We learned a lot and had s great time!
This tour was really good. We started in the Capuchin Crypt/Museum...the day we were there was actually the feast day of St Francis. (The Capuchin monks are a part of the Franciscan order) The lines were long, but totally worth it. After this, we got into minivans to head to the Roman Catacombs. The Catacombs are empty (the Catholic Church moved all of the remains out of the sight of tourists) but it is still deeply moving. Some of the pathways are really narrow with lower ceilings, but totally able to navigate. I highly recommend!
We really enjoyed the tour. Our guide, Fiona, was very knowledgeable and nice. Our drivers were very professional. Probably one of the better tours I've seen.
We were really looking forward to this tour, particularly because it offers an opportunity to explore a fascinating part of Rome's history that many visitors might overlook. Unfortunately, our group arrived approximately 15 minutes late to the meeting point, and the tour had already departed. This was entirely our responsibility, and as a result, we missed the Capuchin Crypts portion. Thankfully, the operator was able to arrange for us to join the group for the catacombs visit. The catacombs themselves were fascinating! Hearing the stories of Saint Sebastian and learning that these catacombs had been hidden for approximately 1,700 years was incredible. Our guide was knowledgeable, although he spoke rather quickly and sometimes wasn't quite loud enough, making portions of his commentary difficult to understand. We were still able to follow the main points and really enjoyed the historical stories. An unexpected highlight was our driver on the return trip. He was incredibly engaging, and we spent the entire ride chatting with him about everyday life in Rome. Those personal conversations with local people are often some of the most memorable parts of traveling. My biggest advice is to arrive at the meeting point early! These tours operate on a schedule, and once the group departs, you risk missing part of the experience. Even though we didn't get to experience the entire tour, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys history and wants to explore something a little different while visiting Rome.
Hi, We have just come back from an action packed weekend in Rome which included a tour of the Capuchin crypt and the catacombs with the Tour Guy. It was very well organised and all went to schedule. We were met by a lady with blonde curly hair (sorry i didn't catch her name). She was very knowlegable and friendly. We came out of the crypts a little earlier and she recommended we looked around the church next door while we waited for the rest of the group. It was so beautiful. The catacombs were also great. All in all an amazing experience. Thank you so much 😊
Be prepared to see mummified bodies at the capuchin crypts! We were also lucky enough to visit the Priscilla catacombs which had the most beautiful ancient artwork of biblical nature and our guide made the whole thing a fascinating experience.
This was great and definitely scratched my spooky itch! Transportation was made convenient as well!!
Hilaria was a great guide who handled everything from walking to the crypt, explaining how the audio guides work, transferring us to the catacombs and providing interesting information along the way
The overall experience was good. Waited over 30 minutes for the radios to be delivered with nowhere to sit. The vans to transport were late as well. At the catacombs, it was difficult to hear the guide because there were no radios and the tunnels were long and narrow. Elderly or handicapped people may want to rethink the experience.
Still wondering who thought creating art made with bones was a good idea. It was different. We enjoyed touring the Catacombs and our guide was excellent. He said he is usually the French guide but spoke excellent English. Great sense of humor.
The capachin part was great and the guide was wonderful. The catacombs was less great as the guide assigned to our group was quiet and less responsive, so felt like we missed parts.
Great tour. Loved the experience
Our guide was amazing! Friendly and easy to understand.
Only did the Catacombs section but was disappointed with a half hour tour for the price paid. Also didn’t see what I expected to see.
I loved this tour, our tour guide Irelene (I think) made sure we enjoyed every stop and didn't feel rushed. In this tour is also included the Capucini crypts, not to be missed--- is the one we call the Church of Bones build by the Franciscans Fathers. In addition there are original paintings too not to be missed in museum. What painter? Well, you have to take the find out and be amazed
Very knowledgeable. We enjoyed our trip. It’s an excellent way to see so many destinations in three hours.
Be sure to cancel the 24th an ahead of time. And don’t be late. I wish they had given me a voucher for a refund and then I could have booked another tour
We were greeted at our meeting point and transferred into 3 vans to travel outside the city to visit the Catacombe Domitilla. What a very interesting place. Now this part is defiantly not for the claustrophobic. You are underground in very tight corridors. But it was incredible. No photography down there but the stories and the whys of this place are fascinating. Next we visited the museum and crypt of the Capuchins. WOW this is something to be seen. The alter rooms of organized bones and skeleton remains the history of the Capuchins all very interesting.
Well organised tour, nice clean van informative guide. Nice and quick but enough time to see and do everything
It was very interesting and we saw things we’d only read about. Was exciting to see in person. We also had a wonderful guide. I think her name was Emmanuella?
Very cool tour don’t miss it ! My husband and I wanted to do something off to be in path. It was an interesting chore.
Excellent, different, sometimes unsettling but completely worth it. So informative. Ilaria was excellent.
Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and added great detail to what we were seeing. Highly recommended
Sylvia was a fantastic guide! She was extremely knowledgeable of the history of all the stops and almost just as important- local food! She was very friendly and had a great personality.
Great tour! Our guide was very personable and good sense of humor.
