If I would have had the possibility to rate it 7 I would have done it. Last night was an extraordinary experience of a fascinating tour in the most beautiful city in the world. The endless passion and knowledge of Rome by Vincenzo captures you and keeps you awake for five entire hours. You get so well connected with the ancient city that you have the impression that Rome belongs to you and you belong to Rome during this time. It is not just a waking guided tour, but much more. History is intertwined with curiosities, past is connected with present (and future), buildings with people, bad with good, … a roller coaster of knowledge and feelings.
It was an incredibly informative and entertaining tour! You get to know all the secrets that no history book tells you. Highly recommend.
This was definitely one of our best experiences in Rome! You walk to different landmarks around Rome and learn so much history. It helped us appreciate our sightseeing so much more. We also saw things that we never would have known about if it weren't for the tour at night. Our guide was excellent!
From the moment we emailed with Vincenzo he was excellent. His communication and flexibility were fantastic. We landed in Rome and hit the ground running. He was always high energy, upbeat, engaging for our entire family and made the tours memorable and fun. I can not recommend Vincenzo enough to anyone who is visiting Rome.
Thank you Barbara for an amazing tour! We started at Colloseum Abe Barabara was extremely informative as she talked about the major sights from the Forum, to the Pantheon, and Trevi Fountain. Upon request, she led us to a fantastic gelato restaurant and gave advice for outstanding tiramisu. So very worth it!
Amazing experience with a prepared and professional guide, who was able to give detailed and interesting info about everything we were seeing, thank you Vincenzo!
Vincente was so knowledgeable about history of Rome. He gave us a great tour with lots of photo opportunities. He made us feel like family. I would highly recommend this night tour of Rome.
This was one of the highlights of our trip in Rome. The guide was amazing, so much knowledge, delivered in a way that our teenagers enjoyed every minute of it. Do not think twice. This is really a must.
My friend and I did a night tour of Rome with Vincenzo. This was one of the best tours I’ve ever been on. It incorporated history and art and politics and culture with brilliant story telling and humor. There is so much to see and understand in every street corner of Rome. Vincenzo put it all into context and brought this incredible city to life. I highly recommend a private tour. You can see and learn so much more!!!
Vincent was such a treat of a tour! He patiently waited for us as we were running a little late coordinating our ride to get there. But as soon as we met, he did not skip a beat with lively details of the historic sites all around town! He knows the best spots to take pictures, and was kind enough to take pictures of my husband and I. It was refreshing to see someone so passionate and knowledgeable about a wonderful city! Highly recommend!
Let me start with some context so that my review of Rome Guides can be useful (when people say things like "most memorable experience of our trip," like I'm about to say at the end of this review, I always find myself thinking, "What else did that reviewer do on the trip?" and "How much travel has that reviewer done to qualify that statement?"). My partner and I work in medicine and are VERY research-heavy when it comes to booking tours (it took me DAYS to sort through the morass of tours available in Rome to narrow it down to Rome by Night and the Ancient Ostia Tours with Rome Guides). We're well-travelled, having between the two of us visited over 30 different countries, and on this trip to Italy, we visited 4 different regions including Rome, Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast, and Cilento. OK, so with that out of the way, our Rome by Night tour with Vincenzo and our Ancient Ostia tour with Martina were the MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCES OF OUR 2-week TRIP. Sorry for the all caps, but they deserve it. Starting with Vincenzo's tour, he has a gift for painting a story of what history was like during ancient Roman times and for making you feel as if you are living inside a movie. Living it. Breathing it. Seeing it. I don't want to spoil the experience (show?) for you, so I won't give away the details. His energy is through the roof. And, his knowledge of history was on par with what I'd expect from a college professor. Now on to Martina's tour, she also has a gift for painting a story, although with different methods. She physically puts you in various scenes and buildings in Ostia and shows you what life was like through games and by having you interact with the environment. She also has a warm, calm energy that made this tour feel like the vacation it was. A couple additional notes. Rome Guides is a small company with small and private tours, unlike many others we've been on. We used a different company for our Vatican/St. Peter's tour and regretted it due to the guides just being not as good - something about Vincenzo/Martina tells me they are invested in the company more than just employees and possibly having ownership - and also due to the group size being larger, even at 8 people on the Vatican tour with the other company was too much. And, I can't tell you how many of my emails Vincenzo responded to, when deciding which tours to do, in recommending things outside of Rome, etc etc. Responsiveness is important to me, and he filled in my knowledge gaps right away, and frankly, went above and beyond what I would expect in terms of his time investment in the email responses. Finally, both Vincenzo and Martina took BEAUTIFUL photos of us and sent them to us after both tours. Just do yourself a favor and stop scrolling through the morass of available tour groups and tours because THIS is the highlight of our trip to Italy.
Marti took us on a romantic, informative stroll throughout Rome giving tremendous detail and insight into the history, the stories and the connections that make Rome truly spectacular. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to do something extra special while in the city!
Vicenzo was great! He knows so so much about Roman history and is able to make the tour so much fun. He even surprised us with something special at the end of the tour. So great!
Wonderful night tour! I'm from Rome, but this guide let me see my own city with a new pair of eyes. Martina could easily keep us engaged and interested for the whole tour, turning this experience into something beautiful and fun.
I write this during during the Covid-19 pandemic that has devastated beautiful Italy. It makes me think back to my visit and the tours I joined, one with Martina (Rome by Night) and one with Vincenzo (Vatican). I cannot overstate how much they brought history to life and lent a personality to the overwhelming amount of art and architecture in Rome. They both are wonderful people, charming and incredibly knowledgeable. It would have been a shame to visit these sites without the insights of these excellent guides. I hope they are staying strong amid the heartbreak, that they are as patient as the ruins that they used to walk among every day. Rome will survive, as always. Soon its heart will beat strong again, and all the noise, joy and beauty will be back to its true nature. If you go to see it, travelers, do yourself a favor and let these good people introduce you to it.
We would never have thought that Rome at night could have been so different and intriguing. But Vincenzo designed a tour unique to us and brought to light many sights and taught us much about some of the political and and artistic developments in both ancient Rome and the renaissance periods. He built on what we knew and greatly expanded our understanding of Italian history and culture. Simply put. Vincenzo is not only an exceptional guide but also a quality human being. We would not hesitate for a moment to engage him again!!
We really enjoyed the tour. Martina was very knowledgeable and we learnt a lot about Rome. However you end up a long way from where you start and have to find your own way back. Worth doing though.
My mom and I took this tour on our first night in Rome. We were tired from the flight and wished we booked the tour the following night. However, Martina made the night memorizing. The Colosseum at night was amazing! Martina's knowledge was vast and her delivery was captivating. We raved about the tour when we got home. It was the best tour we did on our entire vacation. My only advice is to take lots of pictures at each location, so you can relive it when you get home! And wear comfortable shoes. Thank you Martina!
We took this tour with Vincenzo Spina and it was fantastic. He is so knowledgeable and so passionate about Roman history. He was full of fascinating stories and made the tour interactive by asking us questions. He is so energetic and fun to listen to and he kept that level of energy up for three hours! We took a similar tour on our last trip which wasn’t nearly as good. He told us about many secret places to visit while in Rome and we did go to those places - all were so worthwhile! He also had such wonderful stories about the famous artists - stories we had never heard before. You must book this tour and ask for Vincenzo!!!! He is the best!!!!
Cities look very different in the daytime and nighttime. Seeing the Colosseum during the day and then at night was an amazing experience. Walking the streets of Rome at night without the typical crowds made the three hours flyby. The Piazza Campidoglio, designed by Michelangelo, beautifully lit, the Pantheon, the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi, and the view of St Peter’s Basilica all magically lit. Our guide, Giulia with Once in Rome made the city, its Roman ruins, history, these treasures and more come to life with her stories and historical background.
My wife and I did a private tour with Vincenzo of the Vatican, and later that day we did the Rome By Night Tour with Martina. Didn't know until we were there that they are recently married! They're both awesome people and great guides. Vincenzo is classic Italian passion and very animated, Martina is a calm presence and has the same love for Rome's history. They both are very knowledgeable about the tour subjects and offer many entertaining details. Doing a tour with them adds fantastic depth to the sites, and we're so glad we did the tours rather than just going on our own.

We family of 4 have now been doing 4 tours in Rome. The other tours have also been good, though this was THE BEST. There are fewer people, less traffic in the night, just amazing for a very tourist, busy town av Rome. Even though it is dark, the lightening of the monuments visited, added an extra twist to the tour. Our guide Vincent did a fantastic job engaging the whole family, not only by answering all our strange questions, however also by asking us questions and pulling us into each of the histories told. Our son 22 years old has a passion for history and the two quickly found each other on a very common field of interest. Our daughter 19 is normally not that keen, though Vincent was also able to catch her interest. Due to the passion created and all the extra questions asked, the tour lasted 30-45 minutes more than scheduled. We enjoyed every second and can just recommend the tour and Vincent to everyone.

Vincent, sorry we can't give you more stars, Viator only allows 5 stars.

Absolutely loved the tour. Martina was absolutely amazing and so knowledgeable about everything. Highly recommend doing this tour on your first night in Rome to get a good idea of the area and find out where you want to go during the day!
My wife and I were most fortunate that we were the only ones on the walk so we had the excellent, knowledgable and friendly guide (Martina Sorrenti) all to ourselves. Martina used different mediums to enrich the information she was imparting and showed us the well known and more quirky parts of Rome. I would definitely recommend this tour to everyone who has 3 hours to spare (be prepared for a lot of walking and take a drink to sip too) - worth every penny! Thank you Martina - hopefully see you again when we return
Martina was amazing. Great personality and a passion for what she does so well. She tailored our tour to mix in specific requests with her planned tour. The Coliseum was great and she had history to offer I had never heard before . Roads were blocked off near the Vatican but our driver found a way to get us right to St. Peter’s Square- hardly any one here and it was just beautiful. But the frosting on the cake was a place called the Keyhole- a magnificent view of the Basilica then a tiny keyhole- miles from the site. She made the trip a highlife of our time in Rome.
UPDATE. UPDATE!!! I wanted to correct our rating to 5 stars I realized after i submitted our review it showed 4 stars Please realize everyone that this tour group is truly the best and Martina was outstanding! You will not be disappointed one bit with Rome Guides!!!!!!! Roma Guides was recommended to us by our friends in the USA. We contacted Vincenzo and his response was immediate! He was unavailable for the time we wanted so he recommended Martina! Well, my husband and I had a 3 hour tour of the Colosseum and the Forum. Martina was so thorough with the historic details - it was astounding how much information she had on the history of these 2 important places! It was a wonderful morning with a lovely young woman. We left there with a lot of knowledge and memories of a beautiful day in Rome!!!
We were in Rome in September and our guide was Roberto, who took us to the Colosseum and the Forum. Thank you so much for your informative tour, discovering all about gladiators, the history .......
I was in Rome around the middle of August accompanying a small family: Vincenzo Spina was our guide through the Vatican Museums. As a professional of the same field, I must admit I have never seen a guide more professional and suited to the situation than Vincenzo. The day had started in the worst conditions possible, it was awfully hot and the museums were heavily crowded, while a few members of the group had health problems. But Vincenzo did a real miracle, and the visit turned in a 100% success. He perfectly calibrated the tour to the needs of the guests and got us through the heat and the crowd letting us forget everything but the wonderful masterpieces in the rooms of the Vatican museums. Not a single word missed the mark, not a single step was wasted: Vincenzo was passionate and polite, extremely precise with the timing and positioning of the group and always careful to the needs of each member. He fascinated us with secrets and stories and let us enjoy each step of our visit perfectly following the timing and program of the day. A great honour and a pleasure to work with a trustworthy and skilled guide like him.
I can't recommend enough visiting Rome with a guide. There's so much to discover at every site that guide books simply can't do this wonderful city justice! My three friends and I were delighted that we chose Rome Guides and the marvellous Vincenzo, who took us on four fabulously interesting and animated tours (San Clemente, Forum/Colosseum, Villa d'Este/Subiaco, Estruscan Museum). All the trips were perfectly arranged to suit our requirements and we were thoroughly enthralled by his extensive knowledge of all the sites. Bravissimo!
I undertook a fantastic private tour of Imperial Rome for 3 and a half hours with Vincenzo and safe to say it was one of the highlights of my visit to Rome. Vincenzo is passionate, knowledgable and makes the history of the Roman Forum and Colosseum come to life as you tour around Capitoline Hill and finish up at the Colloseum. Vincenzo's take on his top and bottom three Emporer's of Rome and his reasoning behind that was funny and insightful. If you want history to come alive, put the guide book down and engage Vincenzo!
Since we were in Rome for the first time, we took a privat tour with Martina, who did a fabulous job!! Not only did she guide us smoothly through the city center of Rome but also through hugh crowds of other tourists, sometimes skipping the line, so that we really could enjoy our 2,5 hours walk. She told us many interesting anekdotes aside from just historical facts in very good English. Thumbs up, we definitely recommed booking her!
We followed Vincenzo during the super enjoyable 3-hours Colosseum and Imperial Forum tour. He took us through the history of Rome in a super exciting and informative way, unveiling the secrets of roman gladiators and architectural codes of emperors' buildings. Looking forward to going to Rome again and starting a new exploration :-) !
Four of us from the state of Texas ventured to Rome for the start of a 28 day adventure!! I waited till the LAST day to find a tour guide....I was reading reviews on trip advisor and found Rome Guides. I contacted them and was told everyone was booked especially since it was last minute. WELL, Vincenzo, I assume the owner, emailed me back and said he would make a tour for us happen even at this late date! And he did! That in itself was over the top customer service!! We communicated for two days trying to get us lined out for a tour. That's when he gave us our MARTINA!!!! What a delightful young lady. Her knowledge of Rome was incredible especially when you think of ALL the history in Rome. Her English was excellent which was a BIG PLUS seeing as how us Texans need all the help we can get with English.....we even tried to teach her some Texas slang!!! Anyways.... if you're looking for a VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE tour guide service you can't go wrong with "ROME GUIDES". Texas Anne!
Fantastic private tour, knowledgeable guide. Used Martina twice once for the Vatican, and then for the Forum and Colosseum.... nice sense of humor, knew how to bypass long lines without missing anything. Will use again next time we do Rome
I had contacted a few tour guides as my husband and I were going to Rome with our 7 month old baby. Vincenzo was the only one who truly answered my queries and took into consideration this factor. Other guides merely stated their rates whereas Vincenzo immediately exposed his concerns and gave us tips on how best we could visit both the coliseum and Vatican whilst making it as accommodating as possible with the baby. And with his reply I just knew this was the guide for us! Moreover, as expected, there's a lot of history in Rome and it can get overwhelming, but Vincenzo uses interactive approaches to highlight the history of Rome. He was accommodating in helping us with the trolley and to take breaks whenever we needed. He always ended the tour in a location that we could then take photos at our own leisure. I cannot recommend Vincenzo enough - he made the whole experience 5 stars and we felt there was so much we wanted to learn from him. Thank you Vincenzo, next time hopefully we can come with Gabriel when he's bigger and he can run around with us!
We did a tout at Vatican Museums, in Rome, with Martina. We are three Brazilian people and needed someone to explain us in Portuguese about everything. Martina speaks Portuguese very ell and knows a lot of historical aspects about that place. She is both professional and friendly, and you may feel very comfortblhe with her. Besides the tour itself she gave us special assistance, recommending about what to do during the evening and were to have diner. She was alwais in touch with us through WhatsApp to ask whether we were well. It was just perfect!!!
I just want to make it clear upfront that we never used Vincenzo's services personally. I was booking him to do a tour of Rome for our friends who had never been out of our home country, let alone to an overwhelming place like Rome! From the time I first contacted Vincenzo in December to the time of the actual tour in July, he was nothing but helpful, polite and very patient. He gave me lots of advice on what would and wouldn't work and how to manage their time most efficiently. Because this tour was a gift from us to our friends, we didn't want there to be any discussion of money on the day and we also wanted everything to be paid for upfront, including meals. We were docking in Civitavecchia and because our friends had never travelled before, we needed them to be fetched at the pier. Doing anything on their own was way too intimidating! Suffice to say, the total bill was not a small amount of money and because I wanted payment out the way, I paid Vincenzo in full and upfront. Well, this is a terrifying thing to do because you might be left at the pier with no guide and no alternative plan... The morning of the tour I was still feeling apprehensive but as our ship docked - and let me tell you this was very early in the morning - there on the pier was a man standing with a sign bearing our friends' names. I have never been more relieved and would just like to thank Vincenzo for being trustworthy and reliable and for being early! Our friends had the most memorable day of their entire cruise with Vincenzo and they cannot recommend him highly enough.
We had an evening tour with Vincenzo and a half day tour. I was traveling with my husband and 2 teen age daughters and he was so knowledgable about the city. He made our visit to Rome so memorable, we LOVED the night tour especially!
We felt like in the Ancient Rome for the whole afternoon; Vincenzo has a brilliant preparation and he can really transmit you the passion for his job. He is a mix between a university professor (his preparation is unbelievable and could answer to all our questions) and an Italian entertainer (he can keep your attention for hours and hours). We will definitely book a new tour with him the next time we are in Rome!
There were 10 of us on a private tour of Rome over two days with Vincenzo. He made the experience come to life. His knowledge and enthusiasm were second to none. He balanced providing the most important information in a format that both the adults and children ages 12 to 5 could understand and be entranced. We have traveled all over the world and hands down, Vincenzo was the BEST GUIDE we've ever had.
The only way to see Rome is through the eyes of a truly knowledgeable tour guide. We were so lucky that a friend had used Vincenzo and highly recommended him. He was incredible from start to finish, and for two days guided us effortlessly through the myriad of things to see, do and eat in Rome. His tour was fascinating, intriguing, entertaining, educational and worth every penny. A tour like no other I've ever been on. We'll be talking about it for years to come. We love you Vincenzo. Arrivederci e multo grazie!!!
I learned SO much on our two tours with Vincenzo. He not only knows seemingly everything, but he knows how to teach and is a master storyteller. He forces you to think, and keeps you engaged in everything with his challenging questions. He also is savvy about timing and ensuring you see and do as much as possible (in a quality way) in the time you have. We did the Vatican Tour and got SO much out of it, and then the next day did the Historical Center (Roman Forum, Colosseum, Palatine Hill) plus Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona. I enjoyed our time with Vincenzo immensely, and would HIGHLY recommend hiring him when in Rome!
Okay, here's the thing... I lived in Rome for 4 years and have visited again on many occasions; needless to say I have visited the most popular attractions and seen quite a bit of the local flavor... This time I wanted to do a different kind of tour and decided for a private walking tour of Caravaggio; his life and works. I have never been so satisfied with a tour and would recommend it to all of you! First of all our guide, Vincenzo, was dressed up as Caravaggio with a custom made attire, just as the original worn by Caravaggio, made especially for him by a professional costume designer in Rome. Then Vincenzo did not only convey all the relevant information but he also acted as the Caravaggio, using expressions and wording that transported you back to the days the grand master lived. It was a superb performance that makes you think that he may be a professional actor instead of a professional tour guide! Martina was his assistant in the tour, also she a registered tour guide, very professional and kind and quite good looking I might add! Congratulations on your tour and I wish every one that visits Rome could experience this extraordinary performance! I know I can't wait for my next trip to Rome to be able to go on another tour with these guys!
Rome is a wonderful city, with a lot of obvious beauty that is plain to see. What is harder to experience is the story behind that beauty. Everything you look at in Rome has a story behind it, and our guides, Martina and Vincenzo, made everything come alive. Martina's knowledge of the Roman Forum and the Capitolini Hills made the tour meaningful and most of all, fun. She is very talented at engaging everyone in the group, and covering a wide range of interests and age groups. Vincenzo has a great sense of humor, and we were very glad to have had the chance to tour with both of them. Rome wasn't built in a day, and it can't be seen in a day either, so we were very glad to have booked two days of tours. They went at our pace, and we saw things we never would have been able to see on our own. Thank you Martina and Vincenzo!
We are a family of 7 people and our visit to Rome was made extra special after we spent 2 days with the wonderful guide Vincenzo. His knowledge of Rome was incredible and his passion for the city turned our tour into an adventure in history, art and culture. The children were captivated by Vincenzo's enthusiasm and he pitched the tour to the children engaging them with questions and challenges. Vincenzo's english was excellent which was a relief as the same could not be said about our Italian. The cost was reasonable and Vincenzo made meeting points and communication very easy. We also were able to jump the massive queue at the Colosseum and the Vatican by having Vincenzo accompany us. Thank-you Vincenzo for bringing Rome alive for us.
I had two tours with Rome guides in late November 2015. Vincenzo is enthusiastic and well informed about Roman history. He also has the ability to bring history to life with anecdotes about historical figures and I learned a lot from the tour. To that end, I highly recommend the tour with Vincenzo. I also had a tour of the Vatican museums and St. Peter's Basilica with Massimilano. It was informative and interesting. Look forward to returning to Rome and booking another tour!
We've been in Rome last October and we contacted Rome Guides to plan our tour. Everything was perfect, interesting and funny. I highly recommend them to others. Erika and Vincenzo are the best tour guides in Rome. Thank you guys!
Vincenzo obviously loves Rome and is so deeply knowledgeable and loves to share this passion. We spent way longer than recommended on the tour, but it was well worthwhile and he did a magnificent job with us - wholly recommended
Our night tour of Rome with Vincenzo was fantastic! Our first night in town, this was a great way to visit this amazing city without the crowds and traffic congestion. Vincenzo provided so much information on the history of Rome, its artists, architects, the significance of each and personalities. Starting with Piazza Novona we learned the significance of the statues there. Each place we visited was a short walk to the next stop where Vincenzo shared indepth explanations on the sites and their history. He is so passionate about his city and it shows in the tour and the knowledge we gained. Seeing Rome at night with its lights made this tour even more special. It was like taking a wonderful history tour through this city from Roman Empire, Barbarians, to the Renaissance to Baroque Period. We learned about the Pantheon, Temple of Hadrian, Roman Forum, and many more special sites in Rome. Our tour ended at the Coliseum- stunning at night. Thanks to Vincenzo, we had a fantastic base to work from on our self guided tours and walks through Rome during the day. We are so glad we started our first evening in Rome with a private night tour. It was truly a highlight of our visit to Rome. Vincenzo definitely prepared us for a wonderful visit to Rome.
