My Rome by Day, Beauty and History Unique Photo Tour and Workshop with Giulio was awesome! He is genuinely a great person to spend a morning with. He’s fun, a great conversationalist, and has a way of making you feel relaxed—even when you’re up before sunrise, squinting at your camera settings. Rome at that hour is absolutely magical, and Giulio knows all the perfect spots to capture it. Although I consider my photography skills to be advanced, I still learned a lot from Giulio. He gave clear and precise instructions when needed and was always happy to answer my questions. Whatever your skill level, Giulio meets you exactly where you are. He takes the time to get to know your photography interests, which allows him to personalize the tour to your interests and preferences. The tour lasted about four hours, and we visited many must-see locations, including St. Peter’s Basilica. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes, as Rome has plenty of cobblestone streets! After the photo tour, Giulio also gave me some great tips and guidance for the walking route I had planned for the rest of the day. This was a great way to continue exploring the Eternal City and put some of his suggestions into practice. I would absolutely recommend Giulio’s Rome by Day, Beauty and History Unique Photo Tour to any photography enthusiast. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced photographer, Giulio is knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely passionate about photography. I will definitely be contacting him the next time I’m in Rome for another photo tour!

My wife and I had an amazing experience with Giulio as our guide in Rome. We are photographers and wanted to see the city through the eyes of an experienced photographer. His knowledge and passion for his city were amazing…as were his photography lessons and tips. He knew the perfect places…secret places and how to access them…for us to make some beautiful images. He knows his history too…able to tells stories or answer any questions. We had an amazing morning of photography with Giulio and feel like we made a friend.
Rich deep history and stunning ruins. The guide was engaging and informative, but the tour could’ve been slower-paced.
Giulio knows exactly where to take you for the best photo opportunities in the city and the best time of day to be in specific places. He is so knowledgeable about the city and helped me to take some really amazing photos even though I was only using my iPhone 15 pro. He is an expert photographer who can assist you to take your photography skills to new heights. He is patient, friendly, lets you go at your own pace, and takes you from one amazing sight to another, what an outstanding experience.
Giulio was a wonderful guide, for both photography and Italian culture. As an American I appreciated his cultural insight. His knowledge of the area and its details was impressive. A kind and patient person to spend a few hours with. He adjusts to the skill level of the participant(s) and I recommend his tour for a novice or an expert and all in between. His communication after booking and before the event was perfect.
Our photography tour with Giulio was wonderful! The 4 hours flew past despite rather wet weather. Giulio took us to a variety of places in Central Rome, some iconic Roman sights, some lesser known spots. Giulio provided invaluable advice on shooting settings, angles and general advice on photography techniques. Whilst I usually rely on shooting in "p", Giulio helped me to use the manual settings, with very pleasing results. My husband accompanied us as a non photographer and was entertained throughout by Giulio's historic and social commentary en route. We hope to do another tour, either in Rome or further afield, with Giulio next year. Highly recommended.
I spent 10 wonderful days in Rome seeing the ruins and museums and taking in the scene. I did a lot of fun things, but hands down, the BEST experience was the photo tour I took with Giulio. He met me promptly at the designated time and instantly put me at ease. He’s a smart, funny, affable guy who really knows his way around photography. From the beginning, he helped identify great shots and worked on composition with me. I used my iPhone 14 Pro Max and am thrilled with the results. I can tell a noticeable difference between the photos I took pre-tour from those during and after. But you’re not just getting expert photography help. Giulio was the best tour guide among the several I hired during my trip. His deep knowledge of all eras of Roman history will impress and enlighten you. And his easy conversational style, excellent English and sense of humor were the icing on the cake. I don’t usually gush in reviews, but I’m gushing now. Do yourself a favor and book one (or more!) of Giulio’s tours - it’s worth every euro and then some. You will not regret it!
Giulio is the best! We had such a wonderful time on his photo tour. He made things fun and memorable, plus I learned some great photography tips! He speaks perfect English so there was no language problem at all. I highly recommend him and will definitely book another tour if/when I return to Italy. Grazie mille, Giulio!
Giulio is very knowledgeable of rome, he took me to spots I would never find on my own! It’s not just sightseeing, even though we were in the classic touristic parts of rome he showed me the hidden paths to make the most of the experience and where to get the shots I wanted . I would highly recommend this tour to anyone!
This photo and history tour was exactly what we needed to jump start our Rome experience. We met Giulio early in the morning and he quickly assesed my ability allowing him to focus on my needs which was better composition. We started off at St. Peter’s and even before we even entered the basilica I was using Street Photography techniques and looking for details I would have never of thought photographing thanks to Giulio. The 4 hours flew by and I now have dozens of photos that aren’t the typical shots everyone comes home with that will be memorable for a lifetime. HIGHLY RECOMMEND !
Absolutely amazing experience! Thank you so much for your great work!! My daughter and I loved our experience from the very start, and you went above and beyond our expectations. You have a remarkable ability to interpret what you see into a photograph that has great depth and meaning. Your care and expertise made every photo look beautiful!
This was BEYOND what was expected! His knowledge of Rome is only surpassed by his knowledge of photography! It does not matter your skill level, if you are looking to take pictures of the best attractions in Rome or sharpen your skills as a professional, this is the tour for you!
I was lucky to have found this tour. This is the second time that I visited Rome and I wanted to take the best pictures. The tour guide took us straight into the best and most famous places all around the city. He instructed me in which camera settings worked best for the kind of pictures we were taking. Not only pictures but he also provided us with a detailed historical explanation of the places we visited making the tour even more enjoyable. Giulio, our tour guide is a professional photographer who likes to help people enjoy the most out of their vacation by helping them take the best pictures. If you want to bring home your best shots while learning and having fun, this is definitely the tour to take. Highly recommended!
Giulio's Rome by Day photo tour is a remarkable experience! Guilio is friendly and engaging, very knowledgeable in history, an excellent photographer who will lead you to all the right places, and even provide guidance on composition and camera settings to capture simply brilliant photos. If you want to take professional level photos of this amazing city then you can't go wrong with Giulio leading the way!
Great tour! Giulio took us to many awesome photo spots. He is super knowledgeable in photography, history and architecture. Highly recommend!
Giulio is a not just a professional photographer, but also a very kind, interesting and productive guide. He made my tour of Rome very special, and photos I took with his help will remain a faithful souvenir of my trip to the city.
First let me say that my husband and I arrived from the US (16 hours of travel) to our hotel at 2am and were scheduled to meet up with Giulio at 6:30am the same morning! We were exhausted and thought about cancelling but I am so glad we didn't! Giulio is an amazing photographer and instructor and has a wealth of knowledge about his native city. The 4 hours passed very quickly (OK, we did need one coffee break). He pointed out many things we would have never discovered on our own as well as giving us great photo tips. You will not be disappointed with this tour, whether you are a seasoned photographer just an occasional explorer of light.
Giulio is an excellent teacher, patient and professional. I highly recommend his tours. I did the early morning Rome by Day, Beauty and History Photo Tour, and was impressed right away by Giulio’s dedication and communication skills. He responded to my emails as soon as he was awake, answered all of my questions about how to prepare for the tour, gave me detailed instructions on where and when to meet him, and showed up on time (before me!) despite his grueling schedule. We had beautiful weather and light for our session, and Giulio not only helped me to learn to make the best use of my new camera and to take some great photos, he also filled me in on the history of the areas we visited. I’m looking forward to returning to Rome so I can do more of his tours!
Very informative tour (on both Rome and the best settings to capture it beautifully) by a super friendly guide that resulted in some great pictures - be ready for lots of walking but it’s worth it.
Giulio has been able to let me see a lot of Rome sites I've never discovered in my 10 years long living experience in the city. Everything it's been produced with high professionalism, a friendly enthusiasm and (last but not the least) safely, after more than a year of pandemie. Thanks to Ercole for his warm welcoming, great talent and historical knowledge.
I chose this photographic tour of Rome and I was very satisfied with the quality and attention received. Giulio is an excellent photographer and very expert guide. His photographic tour is fantastic, a true fascinating mix of photography and art. Try it!
A tour in Rome with Giulio is a unique experience! You learn to see the REAL beauty of the eternal city and Giulio will teach you how to catch immortal memories of this tour. Definitely suggested!
Giulio was amazing providing an outstanding photography workshop and history on the subjects you are capturing. I was very impressed with the little tips that Guilio pointed out in improving your photography skills such as, shooting counter light shots, rule of thirds, and aperture settings for architecture. Also, he provided suggestions of sights to see that are not part of the tour such as, the Spanish Steps, Borghese Gallery as well as one of the most famous restaurants in Rome called the Bottega Rocchi. Also, gave suggestion what camera gear to use and made you feel like a welcome visitor to Rome. Highly recommended. You can't go wrong hiring signing up for one of Giulio's tours.
Very highly recommend Romefunphototours! Without question, It was the highlight of my visit to Rome. Giulio has exceptional knowledge of photography and would be helpful to any skill level of photographer. Beyond that, he has an incredible historical knowledge of Rome, so an outing with him is the ultimate multi-tasking in photo tourism. I will absolutely do another tour with Giulio in the future!! Cannot recommend highly enough.
The guide is very knowledgeable about the city and photography. he teaches in a very pleasant manner. I'm not very experienced in using my camera. He was very patient with me. He also was very accommodating with what I wanted to see and learn. His English is excellent.I could not have had a better day. I highly recommend this class/tour.
From the beginning when I first contacted Giulio by email, he was so helpful and responsive to my questions regarding the tour I immediately knew I wanted to take his tour. I actually scheduled both a day class and a night class with Giulio and they were both wonderful! I’ll admit that was a little apprehensive about committing to two separate private tours with someone I had never met, but I was so pleased with both my tours with him and not in the least disappointed! What can I say? Giulio was just amazing! His knowledge of Rome was incredible and it was such a joy to walk the city with him. I learned so much about Rome and photography on this tour with Giulio. Also, whatever your level of photography He knows where to get the best shots, but he also teaches you how to learn to frame shots and improve your photography. Every picture I took the remaining of my trip in Rome and in Paris, I could hear Giulio’s voice in my ear guiding me along on how to get the best shot and angle. He is such a professional, yet also so kind and friendly and as others have mentioned so humble. Even though he is such an experienced professional, he is so easy to talk with and I felt like I was with an old acquaintance. I truly enjoyed the hours I spent with him. If you are considering a tour with Giulio, don’t hesitate. Book the tour. You will not regret the time you spend with him! When I return to Rome, I will definitely book another tour with him.
I was visiting Rome for a conference. Short time and wanted to see and photograph the city being time poor. Booking was easy, follow up email almost immediately and welcoming. Really happy to cater for my needs and experience. Meeting point easy! He is so personable that I felt like friends within our first 30mins of talking. I am a novice camera user, he was such an expert, but never talked down to me and made me feel at ease and comfortable using my camera (I learnt lots about ho to use the features on the camera). His knowledge on this beautiful city was incredible, again, very humble, not boasting or lecturing. It made the experience fascinating to complement the views. Knowing how to beat the crowds is a must in Rome, it gets so busy. Giulio's experience around town helped a lot and being time poor, felt I made the most of the city in a short time. I even managed to go back the next day and see more of his recommendations. Most importantly and by far the most enjoyable, was meeting an incredibly humble and beautiful human. I tossed a join over my shoulder and hopefully ensure I can return, next time with my family to do it again. Can't recommend highly enough. Thanks Giulio
To start, organizing the tour with Giulio via email was a breeze. He was happy to meet me very early in the morning (5:30am) so we could catch the best morning light and avoid the big summer crowds. Within no time I felt like I was taking a class from an old friend...who happened to be a master photographer. Giulio is excellent at assessing your abilities and then kindly giving you tips on how to improve your shot. He pointed out the iconic shots, but then gave me time to explore a site on my own. When I struggled with something, he was there to give pointers and insight. He shared history and current Roman life with me, and talked about street photography in Rome and how to politely photograph daily life. I got some really wonderful street shots as we were walking. We had sketched out an itinerary, but he was very flexible. When we arrived at St. Peter's Basilica we were very surprised to see no line to climb the dome. He asked if I'd ever been up to the top, and off we went to climb the dome. He even taught me how to make the protective "fence" at the top of the dome disappear, which made for some beautiful shots looking down. If you are heading to Rome and want a very special photo tour that is fun and informative, Giulio is your guy. I will definitely be taking another tour with him the next time I'm in Rome.
My daughter & I thoroughly enjoyed the time with Giulio. Since our excursion included a photography workshop I was very pleased with Giulio's skill at instruction specific to my level. The tour was enhanced by the information he gave on the amazing history of our specific subjects and the history of this amazing city. His knowledge, patience and humor made this experience one of the highlights of our trip! Looking forward to a future opportunity to cross paths!
We booked this tour as a family to celebrate my dads 60th birthday. He is a keen amatur photographer and many of us share his interests. Giulio met us promptly and with a smile. As a group of 5 with varied levels of skill and equipment, he took time to see what each of us was planning to achieve from the day. We were armed with all manner of things, ranging from DSLR with multiple lenses, to my GoPro and mobile phone. Giulio was very professional and clearly knew what he was talking about, so started with the basics for everyone. He informed us of the itinerary and we set off on our adventure. This walking tour covered all of the sites i could have hoped to see in Rome. Miles of walking passed in a flash as Guilio talked to us about the architecture and local history. His knowledge was impressive and made the tour all the more interesting. At each of the destination we discussed all aspects of photography. All the technical details were covered as well as framing techniques and introducing layers and depth. Having given the tour many times Giulio clearly knew the best places to capture the perfect shot, but also encouraged us to find angles of our own, all part of discoving and capturing the city. It was clear that Guilio knew what his plan was, however i was very impressed with how he catured the tour to our grup, allowing us to venture to places that were perhaps not originally intended. The same can be said for Giulio himself, as he regularly pointed out things that did not seem all that interesting, but conditions allowed for perfect examples of how to utilise the settings on a DSLR. This made the photography side of the tour a truly brilliant learning experience. We stopped for lunch at a wonderful, traditional Italian restaurant where the owner joined us and shared stories of his travels. The food was fantastic, and a welcome break for the legs. That said, we were all extremely keen to get going again afterwards. From my family and i we can not thank Giulio enough. We got so much more than we hoped for. His knowledge and passion was endless, and he was very happy to share as much as he could, answering all our questions and sharing in our stories too. The best day of our holiday by far! It is also worth noting, we were so impressed with the day, that we booked again a few days later to do the Rome By Night Tour with Giulio, running from 10pm to 2am. I will review this seperately, however all the wonders we saw during the day are just as beautiful by night, and without the crowds. In fact, many of the sites were empty which made for the perfect photography environment. Thanks Giulio!
Giulio provided me with a personalized tour, concentrating on morning light. Giulio prepared a walking tour that provided great subject matter and a lot of flexibility. He is very knowledgeable and eager to help. He provides just the right amount of coaching and gives creative and technical advice. Our tour was a one-of-a-kind experience that was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. My advice to others is to plan for your photo tour early in your itinerary to allow for revisits or the possibility of additional photo tours.
Great experience I received as a birthday present. I really appreciated Giulio both as a photographer and as a guide. Also equipped with great patience with a photographer "budding" like me. Definitely to be repeated, maybe in summer. Vanda
Great professionalism of Giulio, prepared and nice person, with him I could see and learn about parts and aspects of Rome that I had never known during my other visits to Rome. Thanks Giulio.
I've taken the photo tour with Giulio - what an immersive experience! Giulio is an experienced and award-winning photographer. He is a great teacher and guide too. He helped me to catch the "soul" of the eternal city. I discovered amazing places I would not find without him. I highly reccommend the tour to anyone who would like to experience Rome in a unique and unusual way and I look forward to taking another photo tour with Giulio! I did the photo tour with Giulio, it was an absolutely immersive experience! Giulio is an experienced photographer who has also won photography awards. He also proved to be a great cicero as well as a perfect photography teacher. It helped me capture the true soul of the eternal city. I discovered surprising corners that I would never have found without his guidance. I recommend this tour to anyone who wants to get to know Rome in a unique and unusual way. I can't wait to take another photo tour with Giulio!
My husband and I decided to be guided by Giulio, a professional photographer and a great "cicerone" who took us to visit places never seen before passing through views and alleys of Rome. It was a fabulous trip and also taught us many tricks to take great photos. We are super satisfied! We will definitely do it again. Thank you!
A tour of Rome with the guide of a cultured and prepared person is already an unforgettable experience. If then to guide it is Giulio D'Ercole, professional and original photographer, who shows the most beautiful images of Rome, but at the same time teaches to photograph looking for different angles and perspectives, then yes that the tour becomes an unparalleled emotion.
Despite being Roman I chose to use this opportunity to be able to see my city with different eyes. Amazing how extraordinary it was to discover past and corners of Rome that I did not know. From a photographic point of view then the guide (Giulio D'Ercole) allowed me to capture images that in many years I had never been able to do. I advise everyone to take advantage of this incredible opportunity. Carlo Traina
After a long wait I started to discover our Italy again. On the advice of a friend I tried this fantastic Service. In total safety I walked through the streets of the city alongside Giulio, a great photographer, without ever feeling like a client but a visiting friend to whom the traditional Italian hospitality was reserved. So I took real photos and not the usual tourist postcards. I never imagined such satisfaction. Highly recommended.
