What makes a great tour? * An interesting topic * Distilled to its essence * Told in an interesting way * Illustrated with examples * With enthusiasm * Holds your attention Jacopo was one of the best tour guides we’ve ever had. In addition to the above checklist, Jacopo was thoroughly knowledge (trained at Florence University in Art History), personable, and gave full attention to each question that was asked. He has a love of art history, and it not only shows, but it is infectious. Highly recommend Jacopo and this tour!

Itinerary
Piazza della Minerva, near the Pantheon, features Bernini's Elephant and Obelisk and the Gothic Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva, built over an ancient temple to the goddess Minerva. This compact square beautifully blends Roman history with Baroque art.
Rome’s Pantheon, built around 126 AD, stuns with its giant domed roof and central oculus lighting the space. This ancient temple-turned-church is a masterpiece of engineering and the resting place of famed artist Raphael.
Palazzo Madama in Rome is a historic Baroque palace, originally built in the 16th century, and is now home to the Italian Senate. Known for its elegant design and grand courtyard, it is a prominent example of Roman aristocratic architecture and a symbol of Italy's political history.
San Luigi dei Francesi, near Piazza Navona in Rome, is famed for its stunning Contarelli Chapel, which houses three masterpieces by Caravaggio depicting the life of St. Matthew. This French national church dazzles with Baroque art and architecture, drawing visitors to marvel at Caravaggio’s dramatic style.
Sant'Agostino, near Piazza Navona, dazzles with Caravaggio’s Madonna di Loreto and Raphael’s fresco of Isaiah, blending Renaissance art with Roman charm in a single stunning space.
The murder scene of Tomassoni, Caravaggio's victim.
The house of Caravaggio's most scandalous model, Lena.
The house of the most controversial baroque painter, Caravaggio.
Palazzo Borghese, located near the Spanish Steps in Rome, is a Baroque palace once home to the influential Borghese family. Il Circolo della Caccia (The Hunting Club) was a secretive, elite club established in the 17th century by the Borghese family, centered in Palazzo Borghese. It was a gathering place for noblemen and intellectuals, where they would engage in discussions, art exhibitions, and private hunting activities. The club was known for its exclusivity, attracting the most influential figures of the time, and is often associated with the Borghese family's connection to the cultural and political elite.

Excellent tour! The guide was very knowledgeable and taught us how to look at the paintings in a new way. What a treat! Highly recommend!!
Ivan was great :) very entertaining tour
Ivan was terrific. He really brought the art to life. He has done a tremendous amount of research, but he makes everything very accessible and immediate. Thoroughly entertaining, but equally informative. One of the highlights of my trip to Rome!
As an art lover this is an absolutely awesome tour and great experience. Our tour guide Ivan was very entertaining and brimming with information that I never knew before despite studying the history of art. It was funny and engaging and Ivan is an excellent show man . Highly recommended to include on your trip.
Ivan was great, humorous and very attentive to details to help me to understand the artworks and life during the tour
Ivan was an incredible tour guide- super charismatic, funny, and engaging. You can tell he loves what he does and is extremely passionate about giving people a fun and different type of tour than a typical walking tour. I would definitely go on this tour again or any other tours Ivan offers- 10/10!!!
Jacopo was an amazing guide and I would highly recommend it!
Jacopo is a great guide, he explained very clearly and easy to understand.
This tour was great! Rome and all its history layered on top of each other can be overwhelming. Focusing on the story of Carrivaggio and his time was a great idea! This was a fun and engaging tour and Jacopo was a warm, engaging, and very knowledgeable guide. Highly recommend
Thank you Ivan, very good tour in Rome to discover Caravaggio
Excellent and very interesting experience. The guide was great, highly recommended!
Great and interesting tour. Tour guide Ivan was great.
I was VERY disappointed to receive a text 1 hour prior to my tour saying it had been cancelled. Rome was chaotic because of the holiday, the giro d'Italia , the strikes, the heat and the normal mass tourism. I made an effort to come in from the coast (Ostia) only to be cancelled with NO reason , why was the tour cancelled? If I can make the effort to arrive can the tour operator not make the effort to give a reason for the cancel. I won't book again with this group.
It was a great tour. The guide was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, energetic and fun. The tour is well paced, giving enough time for viewing, listening the guide and asking questions. Great experience overall. Thank you!
It was an amazing experience, hearing the story behind Caravaggio’s life was a pretty special experience for us. 100% recommend it
Ivan was amazing, we really enjoyed the tour
This was the second time I’ve done this tour, this time with my daughter. Ivan the guide was tremendous. He added so much colour and knowledge. We visited just four Caravaggio paintings but it was a wonderful hrs and a great way to visit 16th century Rome. Thank you.
Had a wonderful tour with Ivan! We went into some beautiful churches and learned so much about the history of some of Caravaggio’s paintings. Would highly recommend!!!
Such a great experience! Don't miss it. I knew nothing about Caravagio before Evan's tour, now I'm desperate to know more, understand more, see more. Thank you Evan.
Ivan was incredible—highly recommend!
Wonderful experience. Would highly recommend. Very passionate and knowledgeable guide. Bravo.
Ivan, our guide, did a wonderful job of introducing us to the work of Caravaggio during this two hour tour. We were really impressed with Ivan’s enthusiasm and knowledge of the life of Caravaggio and the way he delivered this with trying to solve the question of ‘Who killed Caravaggio?’ Great to learn so much about his turbulent life and impressive painting skills.
This tour was fantastic, and Ivan was a great tour guide! I went into it not really knowing anything about the subject and really enjoyed it. It was a nice change from the typical tourist attractions since this is my 3rd time in Rome. Ivan was very friendly, informative and was able to break down some art history concepts for someone like me who doesn’t know much about it. He also offered great recommendations!
Interesting tour with many information. I liked that we had a small group (app. 10 people). We visited nice places connected to the story.
Ivan was a great tour guide - funny, engaging, and knowledgeable. He gave me a better appreciation of Caravaggio - both the man and the painter.
Evan was very engaging, knowledgeable and humorous at times. He respected the churches we entered and made us part of the event.
This is the best walking tour I have ever taken in Rome. I have been to Rome many times and our guide, Ivan was great. He is funny and incredibly knowledgeable about Caravaggio. The stories he tells you are fascinating. He is great describing the paintings before you see them in the churches and it makes you look at them with new eyes! Ivan and this tour is excellent
Our guide, Ivan, was really great, knowledgable and kind and gave us a really interesting and engaging tour related to Caravaggio and his art. We really enjoyed it and recommend going!
Amazing guided tour with young art historian Simone who explained loads of interesting things in the most fascinating way. We were all thrilled (and a couple of us are art historians ourselves)!
This tour is a delight even if you are already familiar with Caravaggio. Simone is a wonderful and interesting guide with lots of great facts and insights to share. It is two hours but you are not walking the whole time. Lots of stops to see and learn about pictures and sites. We were surprised that the cost of the tour is so low but you are encouraged to tip at the end if you liked the tour. You will absolutely want to tip.
Took the tour on 12th Dec with Simone. Simply put Simone was absolutely amazing , his passion and knowledge of Caravaggio shone through. Cannot recommend highly enough.
As two Caravaggio lovers we joined the tour not knowing what to expect and we absolutely loved it thanks to Jacobo, a phenomenal guide with in-depth knowledge and great enthusiasm. A lovely mix of art history, political contexts, and fun storytelling. Can warmly recommend!
Very interesting tour, diving into the whimsy character of Caravaggio and demonstrating his genius in painting, thanks to our wonderful guide Jacopo ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Tour in which we, together unvail the mysteries of Caravaggio ❤️ very cool!
This was honestly one of the best walking tours I‘ve been on of all time, across many decades and cities. The tour was given by an art historian, who is massively enthusiastic about Caravagio, and also very knowledgeable. Though he is an art historian, he could also have been an actor. Maybe he does have a background in theater; I didn‘t ask. Anyway, in addition to being engaging, he was very nice. I attendee with my wife and two teenage sons. We felt our minds had been expanded, not to mention our appreciation of art. It was a blast.
Well handled walk between San Luigi dei Francesi and Sant’Agostino telling the story of Caravaggio. Our tour guide was well informed and enthusiastic! He was very approachable and knowledgeable about the turn of the 17th century and the society Caravaggio was living in.
The most enjoyable walking tour with an excellent guide Jacob who is studying art himself. Educational and inspirational tour. You learn not only about Caravaggio, but also historic background of his time. Highly recommend.
Ivan is the best tour guide we've ever had. The tour was fun and really informative. Highly recommend to everyone of all ages.
Ivan took us on a journey of adventure, love, drama and tragedy. Bridged the transition of Renaissance to Realism. Amazing walking tour.
Jacopo was very knowledgeable and pleasant. It was interesting to see the art and the architecture of Rome through his eyes, and the story of Caravaggio made it all so lively. Highly recommended, thanks
Super fun and interesting tour, Ivan was a great guide, very engaging and knowledgeable. The art works were gorgeous as expected and made me want to review works I already saw by Caravaggio in a new light. Thanks so much for a lovely evening! Highly recommend🌟
Super passionated tour - recommended; lots of details and funny facts; Ivan is very knowledgeable… the tour is perfect for any Caravaggio fans
What a fantastic walking tour. We’ve done many of these over the years and this was undoubtedly one of the best - highly engaging and gently interactive (but in a totally non-threatening way!). Our guide, Simone, was highly knowledgable and his enthusiasm for Caravaggio was evident throughout. If you have even the mildest interest in art history do yourself a favour and book yourself onto this tour and immerse yourself in the world of this colourful, revolutionary and fascinating artist.
Our guide Ivan was super friendly and energetic. He made the tour fun and casual as well as sparking an interest in Caravaggio's art. It was clear he is very knowledgeable in the topic and adding the mystery of figuring out how Caravaggio died definitely kept people engaged. Will surely recommend this tour as a must do to anyone going to Rome. Thanks so much to Ivan again! Ellen and Jacek☺️
I had an absolutely unforgettable time on the “Who Killed Caravaggio?” walking tour. From start to finish, the experience was immersive, intellectually stimulating, and full of fascinating twists—just like the life of Caravaggio himself. The true highlight was our guide, whose storytelling was nothing short of masterful. With a perfect blend of historical insight, dramatic flair, and humor, they brought 17th-century Rome to life and made each stop feel like a scene from a mystery novel.
Jacopolo was a great guide and very kind, I really enjoyed the experience and walking around Rome and discovering its hidden hems
This walking tour was outstanding. The best i have ever been on. Our guide Ivan was highly knowledgeable and passionate about Caravaggio and Art history. He presented it through narrative and was an amazing storyteller. I would 100% recommend this tour!! Thanks Ivan.
Ivan told us the tale of the life of the Baroque master. Showed us a few of his paintings that are in the churches in Rome. Well worth it!
Great walking tour, I recommend 100%. Our tour guide Ivan is knowledgeable, professional and funny. Really good experience
We did the Caravaggio tour as a group of two families with kids ranging from 14 to 18. Our host Ivan was informative and engaging and we had a great time walking to various sights and learning about the life (and death) of Caravaggio. The kids didn’t even realise that 2 hours had gone by as Ivan is such a good storyteller.
