Private Tour Of Colosseum

The communication of the tour operators was great, and our guide was very informative. Skipping the line really made it a better experience.

We originally booked with another company and they let us down by changing the time on us! However walking to the colosseum we were asked if we wanted to go on a guided tour it was a little steep at €50 each but we had a great time with David, he was very informative, and was very happy, making us laugh and we thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it! Thank you! We even said we’d take our daughter and do the same tour again!

This is a scam. Stay away from these people at all costs. We were approached by a “guide” outside the Colosseum on a free day who told us we’d have to line up with the general public for 2 hours or just pay €30 each and have a tour guide give us an hour tour before entering the Colesseum with a 20 min wait. This was a LIE. Read other reviews above as they are accurate. Our tour guide “Sylvio” was clearly hungover and generally made no sense to us, so we left the group and entered the Colesseum ourselves easily. Yes we made the mistake of being too trusting and it was too good to be true but these people have no conscience and are out to rip people off.

Be aware or romanians, arabs and bengali people of this company! We paid 30€ per person which was suppose to be fore guided tour around colosseum which you can walk on your own and they will brinh you to the same live queue where everyone is waiting. Just before they will tell you this queue is slowly moving and it will last 2,5 hours to reach the ticket desk, but normally is 30-60 minutes of live queue.

Great experience to do a private tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and highly recommend to get direct entry and beat the crazy lines in Summer.

We were so tired and yet Carmelo did so well being patient with our kids and knowing all the great areas to take pictures. Very knowledgeable and did a great job! We would recommend this. Such a great way to see the coliseum in a private group!

The Egyptian guide’s English was unintelligible. We understood about 20% of his tour. He was unhelpful to a lost child. Not good.

Maria was very informative and clearly is very passionate about her job. She kept the information to a level of peak interest, where we moved on to the next article so it was easy to follow along in her quick lessons of the colosseum and its past. Top marks for passion and history. We also got an opportunity to see other places bur we sadly missed that. I'm sure it would have been just as good

Maria as our guide couldn’t have been any nicer and knowledgeable. She was articulate, intelligent, and had a great sense of humor. She really went above and beyond her job description when someone in my party was feeling faint. If you have the opportunity to have her as your guide you will be very fortunate.

After a false start we had Tiana as our tour guide and she was excellent. She was knowledgeable and adjusted her tour to the needs of my wife who has a back injury. Her stories were great and almost made you feel like you were here in the Roman period. Thankyou Tiana.

You should avoid Arena tours, at least from my experience. I was wondering if I should give this company two points in stead of one, but I couldn't come up with any good reason to do so Firstly, we encountered a seller who could not provide us the right price, even when asked directly. The price we were introduced for as a group of three turned out to be the price for one person (the price was fair, I guess, but they did confirm a much lower price) The guided tour was in English, but honestly the English wasn't really good. The guide Maria (pretentiously and embarrassingly calling herself "mother Italy") kept repeating the same, simple points several times, in a poor English, she fumbled with words and she fumbled with bag and telephone and tickets, she disappeared for us several times because she didn't bother to raise her guide marker, she didn't bother to guide us outside because it was raining. The worst was that I felt she lost a possibility to rise to the occasion, compared to the fact that you are standing next to the crib of Western civilization. One could compare her guiding skills as one to a teacher in a kindergarten. She got easily distracted by - and playing along with - "funny comments" from some individual participants in the group, instead of staying on message, which underlined her frapping lack of professionality. She repeatedly recommended one restaurant nearby as if she was paid to do so, which was utterly embarrassing. She spiced the tour with her favourite life philosophy moral quotes (also repeatingly) like "nothing in the universe is for free", which my group - starving for historical information and anecdotes - conceived as a plain intellectual insult. As the tour was about to finish, we were informed that the ticket could NOT be used on the Pallatine heights the same day, contrary to what we were promised when we bought the tickets. That is a freaking fraud. We were actually told to come back next day, which is just unbelievable stupid (which we couldn't, because the party was leaving Rome that day). .

Great review. Maria has a lot of knowledge and covers many layers of history with picantic stories and it's contact points to these days.

First it was very messy to get a group. But once we joined maria, the fun started. We noticed right of the start that she really new what she was talking She nows every peace of stone in the coliseum and in the forum, every gladiator and year And thanks to that the time flied and came out with information and experience that you can’t get anywhere else Thanks Maria !

Guide Maria was awesome, she took us for a tour of colloseum, was very helpful and gave us many other tips - regarding meals, navigation of the city, how to get to the sea etc. The way they catch you SEEMS shady - their office is kinda far and noone would come there - so when they see tourists, they just gather them and go for a tour. For students it was €25 for BOTH Colosseum and Forum Romanum. So if you plan to visit both, this is a great deal.

Our guide, Maria, was one of the best, making us feel like taking steps trough history alongside ancient romans. She had a wonderful energy, an impeccable English and tried to make us remember what we have learned in school or trough movies/common knowledge, not only to give us everything on an plate. Wonderful experience! When I come back to Rome I hope to take a tour with her at the Vatican!
