Great experience to learn about the importance of roads and how it shaped the Roman Empire! The Appian road country side is spectacular! Our Tour Guide Giorgio really knew his stuff and it was a pleasure have him share his knowledge!

Itinerary
It is the oldest public museum of all of Europe, created at the end of the XV century by Pope Sistus IV, the creator of the Sistine chapel. Here we will admire the incredible collection of Roman antiquities, with some exceptions like Bernini's Baroque statues, exposed in an incredible palace decorated with famous frescoes. A journey in the ancient times, to understand and indagate many aspects of the ancient Roman life.
The square is an interesting work of urban reorganization designed by Michelangelo. Stands out in the middle of the square, the copy of the Statue of Marcus Aurelius (the original is inside the Museum). The square that we will see in detail is an example of the Renaissance architecture.

We had a private tour at the Capitolino Museum with Vicenzo and we must say he was one of the best tour guides we ever had, his knowledge was fantastic and his timing was perfect which made the tour very enjoyable and interesting.
Our tour guide for the Capitoline Museum was Vincenzo. Having been to Rome many times, this tour was like no other. Vincenzo was both enthusiastic and knowledgeable about every aspect of the museum. We wish the tour lasted 4 hours instead of 2 hours. For us, he really brought the museum to life because there are so many little details that one could easily miss. When we return to Rome, we will try to hire him as a private tour guide. He was just that good!!
Experience, fee, length of visit —- all superb! Our guide was knowledgeable , entertaining, passionate. I highly recommend this tour. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a wonderful tour of a truly great museum. Our guide, Vincenzo, was extremely knowledgeable and shared his deep knowledge in a way that made it come alive. He made sure we saw the highlights of the museum and came away with a much deeper understanding of the many unique leaders of the Roman Empire. Expect a few pop quizzes. An all around great experience.
Our guide Vincent was truly exceptional. In a passionate and highly entertaining fashion, he lead us to works that held great historical significance. Detailed backgrounds brought ancient times to life again and some people facts about popes and artist Bernini brought laughter. Vincent generously gave us overtime minutes and ended the tour at an amazing spot overlooking the Forum. Thank you Vincent for arranging the tour at a less busy time and for the gift of your game.
Why take a tour of a museum - can't you just see everything on your own? A small example: up the first set of stairs after the entrance there are four marble panels. One shows an emperor riding in a chariot. So far so good. You may notice that he is not driving the chariot - but in fact there is no driver. There is a space for the driver but it's empty. Was the driver never added (why not) or was the driver there originally but removed later, if so why - after all he's just the chariot driver. A tour like this answers that question and many others that you may not even think to ask. Your experience will be enhanced out of all recognition. One caveat - not all the rooms are treated to that level of detail but those that are are revelatory.
It is the best and most informative way to visit the museum. I gained a deeper appreciation of the history of Rome
It would be very difficult to navigate the capital museums efficiently without a guide Vincenzo was knowledgeable, personable, and passionate. My wife and I had a great time with him and he was nice enough to take pictures of us near some of the displays.
Getting an in depth understanding of the art and history of the Roman Empire was an enjoyable and entertaining experience led by our guide Vincenzo.
Our guide Massimo was very knowledgeable and affable. He was informative and it was a pleasure touring the Capitoline Museum with him.
Vincenzo just gave one of the most animated, information dense (upon request), and ridiculously efficient tours I've experienced. He quickly surmised where my interests were and went out of his way to incorporate them wherever possible into the limited time we had today. I could have doubled, tripled the time we spent together, forgotten about eating, and collapsed on the way out, and would have been happy for the chance!
We had such a wonderful time!! Vincenzzo was the greatest guide! He was incredibly knowledgeable about the capitoline museum and his tour was lively and very easy to follow. We loved how he would ask us question keeping us engaged in the tour and helped flow the conversation around about whatever he was showing us. This was our fifth time in Rome so we’ve had quite a few tour guides and hands down Vincenzzo was our favorite. We would 100% recommend him to however is coming to Rome and needs a tour guide!
Vincenzo made this tour amazing. He was energetic and entertaining. His tour was very interactive and he was very effective at helping us retain the facts he was conveying. I believe I recall more details from his tour than any of the others I attended previously.
This was the most entertaining and enlightening tour we have been on. Our guide Vincenzo used his extensive knowledge to interact and engage with us for the entire time we had. It was fascinating to unravel misrepresented historical events and gain tangible insight.
We had an amazing experience at the Capitoline Museums thanks to our tour guide, Vincenzo. He was absolutely fantastic—energetic, passionate, and incredibly knowledgeable. His enthusiasm brought the history and art to life, making every detail engaging and memorable. Vincenzo is by far the best tour guide we’ve had; he truly elevated the entire visit. Highly recommended!
The Capitoline Museums, three buildings in the Piazza del Campidoglio, are the main civic museum of Rome which currently offer an impressive collection of Romanesque paintings and sculptures and a vast collection of art spanning over 2,500 years of history. After the Vatican museum, the Capitoline Museums are the most important than can be visited in Rome. The history of the Capitoline Museums can be traced to 1471 when Pope Sixtus 1X donated a collection of important ancient bronzes to the people of Rome and located them on Capitoline Hill. Opened to the public in 1734 by Pope Clement X11, the museums are considered to be one of the oldest in the world. The artifacts are housed in the Palazzo dei Conservatori, the Palazzo dei Nuovo and the Tabularium, an ancient Roman building that is home to a collection of Roman law tablets, an insight into the way the Roman government functioned and once housed the city's archives. Must-see attractions include the Capitoline She-Wolf, the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, the Dying Gaul and the Hall of Emperors. The She-Wolf is an iconic baroque statue created in the 5th century BC, one of the symbols of Rome. The Dying Gaul is a marble statue, a copy of a Greek original. The Hall of Emperors is a collection of marble busts of Roman emperors, including Julius Caesar, Augustus and Trajan. Also see works by Caravaggio and Titian in the Pinacoteca Capitolina, an art gallery featuring the oldest public collection of painting, and frescpes in the Hall of Horatii and Curiatii. Not to mention breathtaking views of Rome from the Terrazza Caffarelli. The Capitoline Museums are open daily from 9:30 to 7:30.
Vincenzo was an excellent guide! He was both very knowledgeable and very entertaining, and that is rare. He also communicated clearly and effectively so we never had to worry about where to go or what to expect. Our first private tour but wouldn’t be our last if we could expect future leadership like Vincenzo’s. Recommend without any conditions.
A wonderful private tour with Vincenzo! My husband and I love ancient Roman history and we learned so many great things, saw stunning pieces and had fun! Vincenzo is super knowledgeable and passionate about his subject which is always a great combination, we loved it!
Vincenzo is a wealth of knowledge on Roman History. He was an extremely passionate and engaging guide. I appreciated that he taught us several tricks for how to interpret archaeological artifacts which made it easier for me to draw meaning from other statues and monuments throughout the rest of my time in Rome. The museum tour ended with a gorgeous view of the Roman Forum.
The Capitoline Museums have an extraordinary collection, but it may not so accessible and understandable for many. We have been there several times on previous visits to Rome. This time we decided to visit with a guide. The experience of visiting the museums with a knowledgeable guide was outstanding. Vincenzo, our guide, did a wonderful job of helping us understand Roman history and the significance of the objects we were seeing.
Guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the art. Was able to explain things in easy to understand terms.
We had an unforgettable time visiting the Capitoline museum thanks to Max! There’s so much history that it’s hard to wrap your mind around some of it, but Max’s excitement about the collection was infectious and he helped bring it to life. Thank you for an memorable visit…it was the highlight of our time in Rome for our teenage son!
Me and my parents went on 2 tours with Vincenzo. ‘Private Capitoline Museums Tour’ and ‘Private Tour - Trastevere and Villa Farnesina’. We had an excellent time on both trips. Vincenzo is extremely and unbelievably knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We have been on tours all over the world and Vincenzo was the best tour guide we have ever had! I can’t recommend these tours enough. Each tour was around 3 hours long but we enjoyed them so much, the time went so quickly. We learnt so much about things we wouldn’t have a clue about without Vincenzo’s extensive knowledge. When we go back to Rome, we will 100% go on tours with Vincenzo again. Thank you Vincenzo, you made our trip to Rome fantastic. These trips were the highlight of our trip.
Vincenzo is an excellent guide with great storytelling abilites. This was my first time doing a solo tour and the time flew by so quickly because I was so engaged the whole time. He is incredibly animated and passionate about retelling history which intern makes you connect more with it. He is very professional and knowledgable, without boring you with information. I also did the Trastevere tour which I would recommend for a more laid back tour. The Borghese Gallery tour is well worth it also, and I would highly recommend going with a guide to help narrow down all the art and give it meaning.
Let’s start this review with a little more context. We had just arrived in Rome the day before and had already completed one tour and this was our second for the day and towards the evening. We arrived early and noticed a tall gentleman standing near the statue in the square holding up a sign…And sure enough it was our guide, Vincenzo. Right out of the gates, Vincenzo hit us with a high energy and excitement about the tour we were about to begin and blew fresh air into our wings and got us excited for our tour. Vincenzo has quite the passion for what he does and his energy and excitement was contagious. He offered us deep dives on topics (per our request) and thoroughly, joyfully and with a “WOW” factor that many people cannot provide. We learned so much and had a great time comparing notes with Vincenzo on topics of discussion. He ended our tour with a great view of the ancient Rome that will definitely be a wall hanger photo. Cannot recommend this tour enough and request Vincenzo as he will be the reason you remember your experience at the museum.
Vincenzo was passionate and animated, and engaged each member of our group in studying and discussing the important artworks of the Capitoline Museums. A great knowledge of history, architecture, and art history were all evident in his presentations. This was a tour that is not to be missed.
Our private tour with Vincenzo was absolutely the best tour we have ever experienced. Ever. Vincenzo was so knowledgeable and engaging and passionate about the history of the republic and the empire. He wove in so much information and really sparked a deeper curiosity in us. We will be back! And we will definitely do another tour with him.
I can not even begin to tell you how happy we were w Vincent!! He was SO knowledgeable and so attentive to our needs without even saying anything! (Needing to sit or stretch) he even on the side said, I noticed u are taking all the pictures of the animals we pass! I said, yeassss! My favorite are animals! It was neat he noticed that :) I can definitely recommend our Vincent he was a A ++++++++++! Thank you!
We booked a private tour of the Capitoline Museums with Vincenzo S. and it was one of the best tours/experiences we did in all of Italy (during our three week trip). He was incredibly engaging, knowledgeable and passionate about the history, archeology, and artwork on display. We were captivated from the minute we started. HIGHLY recommend doing the tour with him, you will learn a ton and have fun!
Rome Guides ( Martina) gave our family ( 6 of us) A SPECTACULAR tour of the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, the Vatican Museum and Basilica, the Capitoline Museum and the Borghese Museum in five incredible days — engaging our grandchildren and satisfying my insatiable curiosity about Roman History — we cannot recommend her highly enough— we have traveled the world and never encountered a better guide
I am not one to gush but this was, without a doubt, the the most enjoyable tour I have ever had. This was primarily because our guide, Martina, was very knowledgeable and very engaging. She welcomed my questions and her answers were satisfying. Our tour (3 hrs) never dragged. Our group was small enough (3) that we could speak directly to each other... without headphones. Her English was clear and perfect. Her short discourse on the Roman view of the afterlife included interesting references to pop culture. Similarly her backstory on a very fine and rare bust of emperor Comodus, was very interesting and instructive. The role and life of the Vestigal Virgins was fascinating. Her explanation of design of the Forum now makes sense to me. I could go on. In short, it was a privilege to have had Martina as our guide.
Outstanding! So much fascinating history and incredible statues. Highly recommend this tour. Guide was friendly and unbelievably knowledgeable. Money and two hours well spent!
If I could give this tour 15 stars I would. Victoria was splendid--she made our tour of the Capitoline Museum come to life this morning. My spouse and I were the only two on the tour. We had some specific requests in terms of the pieces we wanted to see, and Victoria was more than happy. to focus her tour on those requests. I would absolutely pick this tour and Victoria to lead it the next time we're in Rome. Well done!
Our guide, Vincenzo Inglese was an exceptional tour guide. He actively engaged us to stay focused. He is also very enthusiastic about explaining history of Rome. I can highly recommend this personal tour. This tour was what we needed after being cramped like sardines in Vatican. All i can say is that tour was excellent (Eccezionale) !!
When I booked this tour I thought it was a small group not a private tour. I was delighted when I realized that this tour was for my group of 5. The guide's name is Martina - she is a language expert and an archaeologist and is truly the best or at least one of the best tour guides I have had anywhere in the world. My group of 5 unanimously said she was head and shoulders above the other guides we had on a 17 day tour of Spain Italy and France. The Capitoline museum is NOT crowded, has a sublime view of the Roman Forum, and is loaded with Roman-era treasures. My three hours with Martina were one of the best experiences I have had in all of Europe.
This tour was GREAT! The museum contains so many of the amazing artworks and sculptures removed from all the surrounding ruins. It helps bring the ruins to life. Our guide knew so much history and explained the art so well. We could appreciate what we were looking at. She also made it so accessible for our 13 year old. A very good story teller. The museum isn't crowded and is a real gem. Highly recommend. Possibly (?) the Vatican museum has more Roman statues, but it is much harder to view them there with the thousands of people crowded around you.
We had an incredible and fun experience with our guide, Vincenzo. A truly private tour — we were lucky to go in the late afternoon while the museums were not busy and we had a spectacular experience. We cannot stress for you how fabulous Vincenzo was and is as a human. Run, don’t walk, to buy your tickets for the private tour!
Vincent was the best tour guide I have ever had and I have been on many many tours. His enthusiasm for his craft is very contagious. Thank you sir for a job well done!!!
We did the Capitoline Museums and Villa Borghese tour with Martina and both were amazing! Martina is very knowledgeable and engaging and really brought both museums to life for us. I've visited the Capitoline Museums a few years ago by myself but Martina took it to a whole different level. For example, I found her explanation of the reliefs from Marcus Aurelius' triumphal arch to be super fascinating. When I was at the museum by myself I had no idea what they were and what the significance was. She also brought Bernini's sculptures to life for us and gave us interesting background on his life and rivalry with Borromini. We previously did the Ancient Rome and Vatican tours with Vincenzo a few years ago. Highly recommend all of them!
Martina gave three of us a private tour of the Capitoline museum. She was fantastic! Her knowledge and passion fir history was contagious. The stories for each artifact She highlighted made it possible for us to understand the significance and connection to history and current times. We felt that today's experience with Martina will help us as we continue our travels through Rome and Italy. Thank you Martina!
Our tour of the Capitoline museums brought to life the outstanding collection of the entire site. Vincenzo shared with us his knowledge, enthusiasm and detailed understanding of the artists, architecture, sculpture and history of the culture, giving us a deeper understanding of what we were seeing. It became exciting to see this historical collection through Vincenzo’s eyes. I only wish we had more time to see the entire city the same way. The tour was a memorable gift
Martina was such an excellent guide. She is well versed in several languages, brings wonderful and interesting knowledge of Roman history, was so friendly and pleasant to spend half the day with. As we went through the tour, Martina shared so many interesting stories about the rich history associated with paintings, sculptures, and bronze statues. She took us through the very founding of Rome through the middle ages. It was a great experience that we would highly recommend to anyone that wants to really enjoy and gain a true appreciation for what the Capitoline Museums have to offer.
Our tour guide was Alissandra who is extremely knowledgeable, personable and friendly who takes you for a tour into the history of Rome. Alessandra took the time to point out some very intricate details of how to identify the evolution of the art and statuary of Roman history. Book all your Rome tours directly with Vincenzo and Rome Guides!!
Vincenzo is simply an exceptional guide. He took us (my wife and myself) on a wonderful journey through these precious museums. There is far too much to see on your own here, without a guide. Vincenzo takes you through the highlights and weaves in the history and politics of the day. He answers questions and adds humor and leaves you with even more wonder for the history of Rome. Brilliant.
Vincenzo was absolutely incredible. This is a MUST DO walking tour of Rome... and Vincenzo is the key to the entire experience. We were able to hit some of the incredible sights in Rome including the Colosseum, Parthenon and Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel but even the sights in between the sights were fabulous. Vincenzo is extremely knowledgeable and an incredible story-teller and makes the history come alive. I cannot wait to come back with our children and do this tour again!!
Vincenzo guided me and my classmates for four days in Rome. He is extremely knowledgable and very personal. I highly recommend him as a tour guide.
If you are reading this review, then look no further. Vincenzo and Martina were just marvelous!!! We travel the world and have experienced with guides, and these two surprised us with their care, historical knowledge and and their passion for Rome. We had 3 days with them and we felt we were going back to the past to experience Ancient Rome. Vincenso and Martina, Thank you for an extraordinary time. We will not forget our time here.
my family was fascinated by the beautiful and fluid narrative of Marina and Vincenzo. he, in the Vatican, and she in the Colosseum and in the Roman forum, have brought to light the important elements with vivid details. we loved every minute of it. in addition, their warmth and kindness made our experience seem like we were with an old friend. the level of knowledge was staggering and they could answer the most seemingly obscure questions. They were timely, organized and masterful storytellers above all. simply amazing.
My family and I (4 people) came with the guide Vicenzo at the Colosseum after going through the Vatican, wonderful time! Vicenzo is very kind and a very pleasant person. The best of all was the price, it was cheaper than going with a group. I loved it, and totally recommend it.
