Pompeii Express Day Trip: High-speed Train From Rome

We had great group leadership by Emiliano! He carefully shepherded us from the train station to the small busses to Pompeii and provided us with highlighted maps to guide us around the vast site. Then he met us and returned us to the correct train home. Couldn’t have been better care!

Michelangelo took great care of us. Being our first day in Rome we didn't have to navigate the train station. He did a wonderful job keeping track of a large group.

An excellent trip. High speed train to Naples, minibus to Pompeii, self-guided tour for 5 hours, then pickup from drop off point and back to Roma Termini central station. Emiliano from Italia Tours collected the groups, gave us our seat reservation details and shepherded us on board the train, sorted out the groups at Naples, then gave us the map and information on the minibus. Guided tours are also available but I wanted to choose my own route and highlights. The return went smoothly though the train was delayed. I could have put this trip together myself, but this way Emiliano was responsible for getting me on a busy train in the rush hour. I would use Italia Tours again.

The trip was very well organized. The meeting place at the train station was very clear and our guide was there when we arrived. We opted for a 2 hour guided tour of Pompeii and was glad we did. There is so much to see and a guide helped prevent backtracking in order to see things. After the guided tour we had 2 hours for lunch and exploring on our own. Highly recommend this tour if you want to see more of Pompeii than the usual 2 hours of most tours. A relaxing train ride back to Rome in time for dinner. Very glad we booked this tour!

Everything was made easy. Savina was the perfect guide taking us to Pompeii. Recommend getting a guide as a lot to see and would be hard to understand what you are looking at. Involves a lot of walking and in the sun for a lot of the time. Totally amazing to see

Antonio was our guide he was fantastic. Laura was a very hard worker and organized. Winery was beautiful and food and wine great.

Long day. Lot of walking but absolutely worth it. Our guide Savina was excellent. Definitely recommend.

Savina was an excellent guide. Informed us with step by step expectations. Made our trip so pleasant. 4 hours in Pompeii was not enough to see it all of course but was perfect for us. Third time we used TripAdvisor and will definitely use it on future trips.

A visit to Pompeii via the high speed train is both doable and an exceptional opportunity even if you have just a few days in the Rome area. The tour includes the option for private exploration if you skip the group meal/excursion following the tour. In Rome, the monuments testify to the glory and power of Rome. In Pompeii, the silent ruins give great insight into how Romans of different social statuses actually lived. The buildings with mosaics, frescoes, and other decorations bring the city to life. Our guide was knowledgeable and helpful. It was quite hot, which was the only downside, so bring more water than you think you need. The stone buildings and street absorb, then reflect the heat.

This trip was fabulous. The train was speedy and Pompei was amazing. Our guide Savina was brilliant. Had us organised on and off the train and bus with precision. She is also full of great insights and a lovely person.

Excellent trip. They handle all the logistics and transportation and you have 5 hours free to explore Pompeii at your pace and focus on what you want to see. Highly recommended!

It was wonderful to have a guide to help navigate the train station! It's a pretty overwhelming place! Also, wonderful to have a private bus for our group from Naples to Pompeii! Our guide, Savina, was knowledgeable and very sweet! Having 5 hours to look around Pompeii was worh the extra money!

Great experience-thank you or grazie. Went on the trip without a guide as we were happy to walk around the site ourselves. Firstly, communication prior to the trip was super. Very clear and helpful. Arrived at train station and we were met by Emiliano. He was organised, polite and very approacable. Got on the train that took us swiftly to Naples. From there a comfy minibus and then we were in. Pompeii is incredible. Of course it is hot and a hard walk, but people are warned about that so have no justicfication for complaints. Finished at 4.20, back to the station and then into Rome by just after 7. Thanks for a thorough experience. My partner has not been before and she cried (happy tears) at the event. The size of the place and what is still there really amazed her. Ciao

We would highly recommend this tour! Our guide was so nice and helpful giving us information about Pompeii and also Rome. He was easy to understand and made sure we were well taken care of!

Superb experience at most times of the year but I would avoid the summer months, a great day out from Rome and could have spent a lot longer on site. Not to be missed!

The trip was absolutely fantastic. The meeting point was easy to find. The train journey was excellent. Will definitely go back to Pompei in the cooler weather. Very interesting but remarkably sad. What a great day out. From the meeting point to the return everything was planned meticulously. Gianluca was a great host and funny along the way. Travelling by high speed train was a delight. 5 hours to roam Pompeii on your own was the right way to do this. However, you still wont see it all. I will book this again to visit the areas I failed to see this time.

Very efficient trip to Pompeii from Rome. Easy to meet in Rome at Termini, quick train to Naples, and simple shuttle bus to Pompeii. I would recommend scheduling a tour guide to meet you at Pompeii in advance. Our tour guide Fab was great. He called his friend Francesco who came in 10 minutes and gave us a 2 hour tour. It worked out great. Very educational and relaxed tour.

Pompeii was incredible, and we really enjoyed visiting. Our guide Lucas was very helpful and made the trip down from Rome effortless. Would highly recommend this experience!

This was a great way to experience Pompeii, everything was organised for us and Laura our tour guide was exceptionally helpful. There was plenty of time to walk around Pompeii and see everything we wanted to see.

Tour guide Lucas was 10 out of 10. Pompei is a must see, but applicable signs, markings and maps, its a total mess.

Lucas is a fabulous guide! He made a great experience even better with all of his knowledge, wonderful insight and great personality. If he is your guide you will have an amazing time. The train was fun, Pompeii is really interesting and the coast is gorgeous. Really just a great day overall, if you are lucky enough to get Lucas it will be even more spectacular.

Complete chaos. From the meeting point at the station, to the drop off at the gates. Too many people with too many questions, and no answers.

Great day out . Would thoroughly recommend. Tiring and expensive but worth it. So much to see. Our guide for the journey , Lucas, was knowledgeable and lots of fun. Made things easy and enjoyable. My daughter and I were the only Brits on our English speaking tour . Travelled with lots of very charming Americans. While Pompeii itself was wonderful would warn people that walking around is not for anyone with mobility issues or pushchairs! Plus little shade and few opportunities to purchase food or drink once inside. But in general I’d say a must visit

Our family of four (two boys, 11 & 7 years old) traveled from Rome to Pompeii for a day trip and I can’t imagine what we would have done if we hadn’t been part of this tour group experience. Everything was taken care of for us (train travel plus shuttle to archaeological site from train station) and even when our train seats got a little mismatched, it was so comforting to know that our host, Laura, had everything under control and ensured we were taken care of! We did our own audio tour when we got to Pompeii and that was super easy too. That was the right call for our family who likely would not have been able to endure a formal tour with the heat/sun/miles of walking. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to do this again in the future and I will only travel with Italia Tours!

Had we not had a guide (Julia), would have not had the same experience. We would have missed so much. Learning about Pompei at school a million years ago snd seeing it is mind blowing. From what we learnt v what we heard on tour very different. Seeing it first hand makes you appreciate the significant task of uncovering the site. This was followed up by lunch and wine tasting at an amazing winery with a very funny host

The tour did what it promised, getting us to Pompei from Rome and back. The return train was delayed a hour, but not the tour company’s fault. Lucas, the trip facilitator, did a good job.

We had the most amazing day with our host Lucus from Italia Tours to Pompeii. He was attentive, warm, great giving clear instructions and his great happy personality supported to whole group to smile , laugh and have fun. Wonderful experience. Even though it was a quick 3 hour walk through Pompeii, we felt like we hit all the important parts with a fantastic explanation from our guide. Our trip began in Rome where we met our first guide at Termini station. He walked and went with us to Naples. There we were split into three busses to Pompeii. Afterwards we went to a vineyard for wine tasting and a snack. I read previous reviews about this and were concerned about being pressured to buy wine but that never happened. We felt the wine wasn’t the best, nor the snack. Would’ve preferred to get a Napoli pizza instead. However, the vineyard was still pretty and staff were nice. Then we returned to the station in Naples where our guide walked us back onto our returning train. We felt safe and looked after. The guides did a great job. After booking a few guides/tours on trip advisor, this was by far the best one.

Very organized. Outstanding customer service, Tour guide Elania was extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful, and informed. Lunch and wine were extremely enjoyable and entertaining. Staff was superb.

Lucas was amazing. He really helped us navigate the trip and had a lot of good information. He was so fun and made the trip enjoyable.

The tour was great however the vineyard food good and the small amount we tasted very nice However I wanted to buy some wine to take away with me to drink in our hotel was told the price was what was advertised price included shipping no way could get that bit removed so not my loss went away empty handed will not recommend this trip All money making

We have taken several tours with Italia tours and their guides are very knowledgeable and friendly. The itinerary is always well thought out with interesting things to see and do. The transportation used in all of our tours has been top notch. Good value excellent experiences.

Today could have gone very badly. Road closures and traffic beyond comprehension. But thanks to pur Guide Lucas(?), we got home safely and all in one piece. He was apologetic for situations beyond his control, arranged alternative transport as soon as he could, panicked so we didnt have to. I gotta give the guy credit. Thanks to him, our 7 hour trip got greatly extended to a 12 hour excursion with some hilarious laughs and memories I hope I will never forget. Helped me navigate local areas unfamiliar to me. He also celebrated our engagement and encouraged the group to congratulate us as I proposed atop pompeii, which I am assured is a first for his trips. Pompeii will forever be in my hear. Thanks for the laughs Lucas, your tours are great value for money.
