Escape the hustle and bustle of Rome and set off on an unforgettable journey to Pompeii and Positano, two of southern Italy's most iconic destinations. Relax aboard a comfortable, air-conditioned coach as you travel through the Italian countryside toward the Bay of Naples. This carefully curated day trip combines ancient history, spectacular coastal scenery, and the timeless charm of southern Italy.
Break up the journey south with a short stop in Cassino, giving you time to stretch your legs, grab a coffee, pick up snacks, or use the facilities before continuing toward Pompeii.
Enjoy skip-the-line access and bypass the crowds as you step into the ancient world of Pompeii. Follow your expert guide through remarkably preserved streets, villas, bathhouses, bakeries, theaters, and bustling marketplaces, all frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. With fascinating stories and expert commentary, discover the daily lives of the people who once called Pompeii home and uncover the secrets of this extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the world's most remarkable archaeological treasures.
After leaving Pompeii behind, continue south along one of the world's most spectacular coastal roads. Take in sweeping views of the Amalfi Coast, where dramatic cliffs plunge into turquoise waters and colorful villages cling to the mountainsides. Celebrated around the world for its natural beauty, elegant charm, and unmistakable la dolce vita atmosphere, this legendary stretch of coastline is one of Italy's most iconic landscapes.
Arrive in Positano, the jewel of the Amalfi Coast, where pastel-colored homes cascade down the cliffs toward the sparkling Mediterranean. Tucked away along Italy's most famous coastline, this iconic village can be difficult to reach by public transportation, making this day trip the perfect way to experience its beauty without the stress of planning. Enjoy two hours of free time to wander through charming streets lined with boutiques, browse local shops for unique souvenirs, relax on the beach, or stop for a gelato with unforgettable sea views. Whether you choose to sip limoncello at a waterfront café, explore hidden corners of the village, or simply soak up the postcard-perfect scenery, Positano offers the perfect taste of la dolce vita and the timeless charm of southern Italy.
As the sun begins to set, rejoin your comfortable, air-conditioned coach and enjoy one last look at the breathtaking Amalfi coastline as you begin the journey back to Rome.
Enjoy a short stop to stretch your legs, grab a coffee, or pick up snacks before settling in for the final leg of the journey back to Rome.
Relax on your journey back to Rome after a memorable day discovering the ancient wonders of Pompeii and the breathtaking beauty of the Amalfi Coast. Estimated arrival in central Rome: approximately 8:30 PM (traffic conditions permitting).

Pompeii was very interesting and Positano equally impressive- a must see. A trip to remember with a guide that made it even better
Its was a brilliant experience . From start to finish our tour guide rob made the experience even better . A lot of hills to walk .
Such an amazing trip. The day started off great we had a fantastic tour guy who knew so much and was very interactive with everyone
What an amazing trip! Our tour guide Kler was exceptional and our driver Fabrizio made the trip very comfortable. Don’t miss Pompeii….it is worth the trip!
I was late booking my tour but came across this tour and Eduardo....he saved the day. His communication was excellent and his hospitality was kind and welcoming...more like extended family not a business transaction. Our Roman Goddess, Maura, was our wonderful personal tour guide sharing her extensive knowledge of the Colosseum and Rome.. Bravissimo!!!! Grazie!!
Long day which was known, Pompeii while was something to explore, the sound equipment issue spoiled what should have been a great experience. Would have preferred more time in Sorrento and Positano.
Good But too many people in one tour Price to expensive I thought its 3 different places but turned out just two Need more proper organized
Despite this trip starting at 07.00 and we returned to Rome at 21.00 it was worth every minute of the day! An outstanding trip, Pompeii was amazing, Position was stunning. The guides were fabulous, driver was great fun and it was worth every penny. Coach was comfortable. I had a 13 year old with me and he adored the whole day.
Our guide Errica was amazing. Great personality and very knowledgeable about the areas we visited and information in general about Italy. Pompeii was indescribable. The history and site was incredible. Our stop in Positano and along the Amalfi Coast was breathtaking. I highly recommend this tour.
The trip was fantastic, thank you for organizing, especially thanks to Mrs. Laura, she was a very professional guide. Also thanks to the awesome driver! If we could go somewhere, we would love to just only with you.
Flávio was an excellent and patient guide. Paulo/paul gave us a smooth pleasant drive.
Tour guide was fun and very informative. Very organized and paced well. The bus I felt could be roomier. Seats were tight. Uncomfortable..
Overall excellent, Flavio was entertaining and educational, the sights were amazing. The Pompeii tour guide was great.
The Pompeii and Positano tour by Viator City Wonders is wonderful! It was very well paced, the guides were knowledgeable and helpful, the drivers friendly and buses clean and comfortable! We learned so much at Pompeii and Positano is beautiful. Our family really enjoyed it! Thanks Valentina, Antonio and Tetiano (spelling?). 😊
Our guide Eduardo was informative, entertaining, personable, passionate and knowledgeable. He clearly loves what he does. A really "Top Bloke". Enrico's driving skills were sensational! Fabio, our Pompei guide, was knowledgeable, accommodating and provided a great experience to see Pompei.
It was a long day but totally worth it not to try to navigate it ourselves. The Pompeii portion was informative but I wished we had more time. It was a quick tour maybe 1 1/2 hrs. Our guide was fantastic and informative! Positano was beautiful to see however not great for the weary the walking was only up or down hill!! So glad we did this!
Was a very fun tour. Eduardo was very informative, funny, and friendly.
Veronica our guide was very knowledgeable n shared a lot of information about the history of Rome n positana. She gave us enough time to enjoy ourselves n took care of the logistics and our large group. Hats off to her management skills. She was very polite n answered the questions. Our driver (sorry forgot the name) was very smooth in driving thru the steep roads. Our guide Mauro who was on pompei was excellent n ensured all the group was together. He didn't go hastly with his explanation
We had an amazing full day visiting these areas. I can’t thank our driver, Mauricio, enough for getting us there and back safely. Our guide, Laura, was so knowledgeable and funny. She made the long trip interesting. Pompeii was such a great site to see. I’d always wanted to go and to see the city so preserved was astonishing. Our guide, Marco, was good and you could tell he loves what he does. Our headsets kept going out, so we didn’t get to hear all of the commentary, but enjoyed the sites. Positano was breathtaking and we took amazing photos there. I do wish we had more time to spend but considering the long drive I see why they kept us on a tight schedule.
Kler was excellent, the trip was superb and the knowledge of our guide was exceptional. Would highly recommend
Our guide Veronica was awesome. It was a long day but filled with great information and beautiful sites. Thank you.
Long but wonderful day. 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. Saw Pompeii which was amazing. And the the Amalfi coast and Positano which are breathtaking.. Eduardo was a great guide keeping us up date, on time and a great deal of information.
Excellent experience with lots of good places and activities. Although the time for each activity was short but still enjoyed a lot.
Parnian was a great and fun guide for this trip, with a lot of helpful historical information throughout the day. She outlined the trip very well. Pompeii, Amalfi, and Sorrento were unforgettable. We wish we had a bit more time in Sorrento however. We had some sick people on our bus so I advise bringing a mask. The driver Daniel was very safe.
We had a wonderful experience! Parnian “Pari” was our guide and she was the most friendly, welcoming, informative person. We thoroughly enjoyed our day trip to Pompeii and Positano and would highly recommend going for it!
We booked a trip with our tour operator Jet2. Although we had done several trips independently we decided to book Pompeii and Vesuvius because of ease of travel. It was Well organised and the guide was knowledgeable. Fascinating experience even for smaller children. Some difficulties with the pushchair in areas but I do believe there is a route more sutible for wheelchairs and prams. We managed well. You need three whole days to see everything and take it all in.
It’s good for someone who has limited time and want to get a glimpse of both. Save the headache of logistics. As a tour of this nature, it is impossible to fully explore pompeii so if u r into history a lot, u should book ones that spend whole day in Pompeii. Don’t plan dinner after the trip. It will be a very long day. And if there are lots of late people and disorganised people like in my group, u will arrive back in Rome very late. In a large group like this I strongly believe that those who cannot keep up with time should be left behind.
This was a fantastic experience. The tour guide and the bus driver were excellent. However, a lot hinges on things out of your control. We had truck protests on the highway which caused traffic delays, fellow tourists who were late and did not follow rules, major down pour where most of us got sopping wet, someone had a lost phone which set us back 40 minutes so that turned our trip into a 14 hour ordeal. We arrived back to our hotel at 11p. Having said all this, we still would do this again, but would plead with our fellow travelers to be better - pay attention.
Errica was such a lovely guide! Not only did we learn a lot but we laughed a lot as well. We had some guests in our group that didn’t adhere to the times very well and Errica handled it wonderfully and made sure we still made it home on time! All of the stops were lovely. We throughly enjoyed our day!
The only reason this review gets 3 stars is because the tour director was great. However, there were other issues caused by the company that left us feeling cheated. 1. Check in process was hectic and staff was rude. No clear directions or visuals telling people where to go. Several tours were starting within a few minutes of each other. 2. Once on the bus, we were told the schedule- which included going to a Lemoncello factory. That was a waste of time that could have been spent in the two main locales. 3. We only got 1.5 hours, not 2 hours, in Pompeii. We had a different guide there who was an older lady. She could not walk and talk at the same time, so there was a lot of stopping and standing still on boring parts listening to her, and when we got to interesting parts, like the forum, we were rushed through. No stopping at the gift shop for souvenirs. 4. We were taken to pick up pre-ordered Margherita pizza (we placed our order on the bus). That was the only choice. If you don’t like pizza, I guess you don’t eat. 5. We only had 1 hour 20 minutes in Positano. That was so disappointing. Maybe if we hadn’t stopped at the Lemoncello Factory that wasn’t even part of the itinerary, we could have had the full 2 hours advertised. We felt cheated because we don’t a lot of time at places other than the two main places on the itinerary.
Trip was awesome! Laura was an awesome guide! Very friendly and knowledgeable. Giovani took care of us on the drive there. The team did an awesome job! Would do it again in a heartbeat!
Our tour guide Veronica was very informative and helpful. The driver Antonio was excellent, safe and handled our trip well . We liked our Pompeii guide too. He used our time well so we maximized our time well and saw the best things.
Driver Giovani was super safe. Laura our general guide was very professional and helpful. Marta our guide in Pompei was excellent
We had a wonderful experience! Pick up location was very easy to find. The tour bus was quite comfortable and spacious, fit about 50 people. Our tour guide Marius was amazing - very knowledgeable and organized, but also super entertaining and personable! He explained everything very clearly so that we knew what to expect, and to also ensure none of us got lost throughout the day. I went with my family of 10 adults. It’s a very long day, about 13 hours from pick up to drop off, so just bare this in mind if travelling with children. We also had a few people with not-so-good knees, so it was a bit of a struggle for them given the steep layout and amount if stairs throughout Positano, as well as the cobblestone in Pompei. It is a lot of walking. We did wish we had more time to explore Positano/Amalfi Coast (had about 1.5 hours), but time restraint was understandable given the schedule of the day. Otherwise, would highly recommend the tour if you are looking for a great day trip! Thank you again to Marius!
Giovanni was a wealth of information and passion for Pompei! We are so grateful to share the moments learning of culture and history with him. He is like a celebrity around Pompei and we can see why! Francesco, our driver navigated us safely to the coast with amazing views and moments to treasure in Positano! We had a semi private tour and really enjoyed our travel partners for the day! A smaller group is the way to go!
Pompeii was amazing, as were the views from Positano along the Amalfi Coast. The reason this was not 5 stars was the experience in the smaller bus along the Amalfi Coast. The driver drove more than a bit crazy, accelerating on switchbacks. I know the culture with driving is different than the US, but it was unsafe and set our group on edge, taking away from our ability to enjoy this part of the trip.
The day was long and the tour was incredible! We visited Pompeii, stopped in Sorrento, and visited Positano. Wonderful day!
Lavinia was a great super host. Please note that she only accommodates the bus and Postiano. There is no actual trip to Amalfi coast but only far views. So if you want to visit the coast. Then select that specifically. Seems like the tour is predetermined on places like a mini stop to stretch legs, Pompeii to see the hostory of the village, the Limoncello place and then to Postiano as the final stop. Probably could have skipped that stretch your legs spot to have more time at Postiano. So be sure to read everything to decide what excursion is best and important to you. Oh there is a race to the bus seats. Enter the second door lol and the pizza that they brag about is really not that good coming from Rome where the pizza is fantastic. But our host was great. Love her!!!
We did a semi-private tour in order to see Positano, and that was worth the extra cost. We had a very small group, and being able to see and shop in Positano was such a neat experience. I wish we'd gotten some more time in Pompeii - there is so much to see and such a short time to see it, you only get a taste of the experience, but overall the entire day was fun, our driver was really nice and very well coordinated to get us to all the locations on time, and our Pompeii guide was knowledgeable and fun to explore the ruins with. The only thing I might criticize is the Limoncello factory - that was basically a shopping excursion to get to the gift shop - I would have preferred more time in Positano than stopping for that.
The trip suggested a two hour guided tour of Pompei. It lasted only one hour and twenty minutes! There was nothing going on in the lemoncello factory except bored workers looking out a glass window at the tourists as they passed. The tour was only saved by the efficiency of the bus driver and the entertaining guide who bid her best to keep us engaged and enthusiastic.
It's definately worth the time. We booked a small group tour & was in a bus of 53 total passengers to & from Rome. When we arrived at Pompeii, we were broken into 2 smaller groups. Fabio was excellent explaining the Pompeii sites. We had time to eat pizza (not included) before loading back on to the big bus heading to Positano. We stopped at a Lemoncello factory for a tasting with a huge gift shop. We loved the melon cream cello! We loaded on to smaller shuttles & were transported to Positano. It's a hike down to the cathedral & climb back up. Lots of shops with beautiful things to buy. Loaded back on the shuttle to the lemoncello factory, back on the big bus & back to Rome. We would have liked time for souvenir shopping in Pompeii but were rushed through the bookstore directly to the museum. Veronica was amazing & easy to understand. Full of information & good at croud control ;-) .
Absolutely fantastic could not fault this trip at all
Francesco and Giovanni were fantastic Guides. Giovanni’s knowledge of Pompei was exemplary!
The tour guides were extremely knowledgeable! Veronica was wonderful and really taught us so much about the history of the areas
Really loved Positano and the stop to the limoncello factory. Pompeii was interesting as well. But Flavius and the driver were the best and made the whole experience seamless.
A trip to remember I will recommend this experience to everyone I meet in person and friends and family
This tour felt very rushed and disorganized in the Pompeii portion. The local guide seemed unconcerned that he was difficult to hear.
Pari did a fantastic job of walking us through the history and getting us where we needed to go! Our guide in Pompei, Silvana, was hilarious and extremely knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this tour!
Pari was amazing. She is very knowledgeable and very informative which kept us interested. She kept us entertained throughout the long bus ride to our destination. She made sure we transferred to other smaller busses and to the other guide in Pompeii. Well worth the price. I highly recommend you book with her.
