Wow! What a terrific half-day trip out of Rome. Uncrowded, peaceful, easily reached on the metro in 30 minutes. Rebecca was a terrific guide showing us the best Ostia Antica had to offer. The ability to see and touch this ancient site was mind-blowing. This was a port city that served the needs of Rome. Loved the many mosaics that told the story of the businesses that existed 2000 years ago.
What a lovely, relaxing first day in Rome with our driver, Alex. Communication began several days before our arrival, which was reassuring. The meet-up at the airport was smooth, and our trip to Ostia. Antica went without a hitch. Alex then drove us to a lovely place beside the sea in Ostia for seafood lunch. Excellent excellent. He picked us up right at our apartment and made the ride comfortable and easy. Our personal guide, Maria, was outstanding. She was incredibly knowledgeable and brought the ancient city to life with her stories and insights. Ostia Antica is a vast and fascinating site, and having an official local guide made all the difference. I highly recommend arranging one to truly appreciate its many intricate details. Be prepared for a full day with plenty of walking. We were thoughtfully provided with water and cookies to keep up our energy along the way. After exploring the ruins, we enjoyed a fabulous lunch at a waterfront restaurant, where the food, ambiance, and service were all first-rate—definitely worthy of 5 stars. Overall, it was a wonderful and memorable day trip from Rome, filled with history, beauty, and adventure. Highly recommend!

We took a private car and tour of Ostia Antica from Rome. Our driver Paolo was very friendly and social and did a great job. He communicated with us the day before to ensure that we were connected. He also made reservations for us at a seaside restaurant for lunch. The vehicle was a Mercedes van which was very comfortable. Our guide Paola is a PhD and expert in Roman history and Ostia Antica. She had a real sense of the history and importance of Ostia and helped us understand the connections between Ostia, Rome, and other countries in that day. Ostia was abandoned due to malaria then looted over the many years, so the ruins are less well preserved than Pompeii which we also visited on this trip. If I could only visit one location, I would choose Pompeii because it is more complete (it is also MUCH more crowded). If you visit either site, I recommend a guide or at least some type of audio tour or it will be difficult to appreciate the technology of that day.
Alex Paolini, our driver was excellent. He picked us up early to skip the crowds alon a busy first Sunday morning. The ancient city of Ostica is amazing, way bigger than you expect. We got the audio guides and they were very helpful. Then Alex took us to a beautiful seaside cafe for an incredible lunch. Great day, highly recommended and best driver ever!
Excellent driver! Peter went above and beyond….we needed some coffee before heading into Ostia Antica and our driver not only stopped for us to get some he paid for our coffees and some pastries what a treat! He was full of knowledge about Rome and the surrounding area and it was a pleasure learning from him. Do note that the driver doesn’t go into the park with you but you can rent on demand headsets that explain what you’re looking at. This site was far more than I expected - such remarkable preservation! And lunch by the sea was fantastic highly recommend!!! Thank you Peter!
We had an amazing experience! Alex was prompt and showed up with treats to start our journey. To visit Ostia has been a family dream. Alex was excited for us and his knowledge and expertise made each part of the trip memorable. The car was immaculate and we were riding in style. Alex picked us up early as he knew that there would be traffic and this enabled us to get there smoothly. The restaurant that was chosen was perfect and right on the water! Alex Paolini was our fabulous driver! He was very good at communicating from before we were picked up all throughout the day! We wanted to go to Ostia which was a hidden gem! Holy cow! Pompeii is very famous however Ostia is larger and was created in 4BC. The mosaic were so beautiful. Alex coordinated everything for us. He knew Sunday would be busy so he arranged for us to go early. Then due to summer and restaurants being busy he made a reservation for us. We dined at a beautiful beachfront restaurant that had the most delicious food! The view was priceless view was priceless. Our family had a marvelous time and felt so well taken care of with Alex. Upon arrival he had delicious pastries for us. Plenty of Cold! Water and he escorted us and interpreted for us. He pays attention to the details for example he made sure our waiter spoke English. All these little things people forget about yet it make all the difference, thank you Alex for making our trip so special! Melanie
Not only did we see Ostia Antica but Giuliano made sure we saw a related castle and basilica (a treasure), set us up with a great seafood lunch on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea and a second church and views of the Vatican from the Garden of Oranges. Nicely done!
Our day trip to Ostia Antica to view the ruins was a very comfortable, full day. Our driver, Giuliano, was excellent. He picked us up promptly in a very nice vehicle and drove us to Ostia Antica, pointing us toward the entrance. After about two and a half hours walking around the archaeological park, he met us at the gate and took us to the castle of Giulio II for a quick view of the castle grounds and a nearby church, then drove us to the beach for a short walk along the water. Giuliano had made lunch reservations for us at an excellent restaurant on the beach, where we had a tasty lunch. He then drove us back to Rome. He had been explaining various things we encountered to us throughout the drive in his excellent English, and, upon hearing us express an interest in local churches, he drove us to Santa Sabina on the Aventine hill, a very old church near a park filled with orange trees with an impressive view of the Tiber and the city below. He offered to bring us to another church, but it had been a full day, so he dropped us at our door. I would certainly ask for Giuliano again if I wanted to sightsee in Rome or its environs.

I would 100% take a tour with Alex Paolini again. We did a customization of the Etruscan tour. The company was right on the money with how long things would take. Alex was incredibly helpful, particularly for an older member of our party who had some mobility issues. Surprising us with pastries was just what we needed after an overnight flight. He also has lots of good tidbits about Italy and the history. Alex even went ahead into our hotel to find where we should check in and helped carry our bags. Doing the tour straight front the airport was a great way to beat jetlag. The Etruscan tombs are now in my top 5 travel experiences. If you have people on your trip who like to scrabble and climb, this is the place for them, with some other paths that are smoother. I'm so glad we got off the beaten track and doing a private driver made everything so much easier.

Great private tour to Ostia Antica! Claudio was a wonderful driver and took us to a wonderful seaside restaurant for lunch which was one of our favorite meals in Rome, despite having had delicious food all week. And Massimo was an amazing guide at Ostia Antica, and had us laughing the entire tour. We’re so glad we booked this trip!

We had a very good experience with Alex as our driver today . He was prompt, pleasant and efficient. We had a nice day at Ostia Antica although the Museum portion was closed ( no prenotification as to this) and the guided tour was absent ( which was indicated to be included). Still we enjoyed the ruins and used an online audio guide to take the place of the guide we thought we would have! None of this was the fault of our delightful driver, however, and he did take us to have a lovely lunch at a restaurant on the beach nearby to Ostia.
We looked at the ruins through the gate because it was SHUT on Mondays! Alex Paolini, the kind and helpful driver, was not troubled by this in any way. He took me to Frascati, one of the Roman hill towns I had always wanted to see, with its gentle, traditional way of life, old people meeting for a stroll under the trees, morning coffee, clothes shops. There was nothing I felt obliged to see, no famous ruins.
Alex was very informative, happy and a great driver. I would recommend him to families who are travelling. He has a great energy and a great personality. Friendly, approachable and knows his stuff around Rome. Very happy with it all.

Claudio picked us up on time from the cruise port, and allowed us to make several stops before driving us to Ostia Antica Archeological Park. We spent several hours exploring this large early completely excavated site, which is lesser known than Pompeii but very much worth a visit. Afterwards he suggested a great local trattoria for a seafood lunch and then delivered us to our hotel. Claudio was a safe, efficient and thoughtful driver. We could not have been in better hands!

It was a great experience for us to have as driver Alexander, who is a kind and very polite person. He drove us to Ostia archaeological site and waited for us to have a tour, afterwards he took us to a wonderful restaurant by the sea and he even tried to find for us a tourist shop for souvenirs. It was so relaxing to be picked up from the hotel and to be returned there. I suggest this to everyone.
Guilliano was a great guide, very interesting and informative. He chose a great seaside restaurant for us for lunch. We would definitely use his company again for a tour.

The private tour from Rome to Ostia-Antica was a great experience, a journey into the Roman past that could hardly be better - a must see. We enjoyed the four hours there - the driver and car were very good. At the end of the tour, Alex, the driver, gave great tips for lesser-known highlights in Rome. The only thing - it was relatively expensive - but a great experience.
