We took our 15 and 11-year-old children, and everyone had an incredible experience filled with hands-on activities. The kids were thoroughly entertained for hours while learning so much about Da Vinci. The ticket prices were also very reasonable.
This is a small museum very close the St Peter’s Basilica. It has hands on experiences on the first floor. The lower floor is a collection of reproductions of famous paintings. The self guided audio tour allows you to click on a card for the correct information for each item. You go at your own pace. We sat on the floor listening to the info about each piece (enjoying the air conditioning in the heat wave!) before walking the short distance back to the hop on hop off bus stop. Please note: there is NO restaurant inside, nor next to, this museum experience; I was misled by Google & Trip Advisor (Ciocco restaurant was advertised). The closest restaurant was 1minute further along the same road, which was average and not worth writing about.
Fascinating and eye-opening exhibition
This is a experience if you like da Vinci work and is curious, can easily spend 2 hours in the place and don't need to book in advance, costs €16 (and don't have toilette! the guy in the reception stated that the museum is located in a crypt below a church and they didn't had space or structure to built, a very bad detail in my opinion). You can interact with many of the replicas, every one of them have plaques explaining, and also have a touch screen that you can learn more about the project. Was my favorite museum do visit in Rome, and the best souvenir shop!
Do not do this. You can buy the tickets from the location for the exact same thing and for less money. Also, it’s very small and boring and certainly not worth the cost.
Very interesting! Da Vinci invented or refined so many things we still use today - he was so much more than an artist. What talent and imagination! So much fun to see and try some of his work.
There are 3 locations in Rome that are all called Leonardo da Vinci experience - choose wisely! The trip advisor reviews seem to be all mixed up and it’s not clear which is which, so do extra research. (We went to the one by the Vatican (Via della Conciliazione) by mistake as we didn’t realise that we actually wanted to go to the cheaper, and apparently better one, at Palazzo della Cancelleria.) There is a pleasant shop entrance and the lady that served us was very nice and talked us through the audio guide. To go into the “experience” cost us €34 for 2 adults, a 10 year old, and a 4 year old, we felt this was a bit expensive for what we got. Once inside there is effectively one room upstairs with a couple of exhibits and a print of the last supper, then downstairs is a route through 3 rooms. Two have mock up inventions, the third has copies of paintings. There wasn’t any other guests when we went so we took out time, but were still finished within the hour. We were given pen-style audio guides and laminated maps to scan. They were alright. The rooms are dark and don’t have any windows, but everything is clean and well presented. There is a visitor toilet. To say the exhibits are “interactive experiences” is a bit of an exaggeration. Yes, you can touch some things, but it’s pretty much turn a cog to see another cog turn. The kids were bored very quickly. It was amazing to learn more about the incredible inventions LdV made, especially so many that have influenced and inspired modern technology, however I wished I had just gone to the science centre instead. Likewise, the paintings were good examples but I’d rather see the originals. Overall, this was ok, but expensive and I regret not going to the other one that has better reviews.
If you are a Da Vinci fan this is wonderful, the audio tour is good, but the whole experience left us a bit underwhelmed. The models and interactive experiments were fun, but the paintings section was pretty dull, particularly if you have seen the paintings in the galleries where they are housed. Okay as a time filler, but don’t rush.
Interesting museum experience. Cool to see Da Vinci’s patents and ideas come alive. Nice staff and cool shop at the entrance. A bit small, we wished it could be a bit more stuff to see and do.
Fun and interesting for all ages. Easy to understand. Lots to learn. Thank you for putting this together, well worth a visit.
My wife and I visited the museum while in Rome and I expected to see some amazing art work without realising that Da Vinci was also an amazing engineer, scientist, sculptor and architect. They have so many things on display that surprised us as we walked around and discovered what a genius he was. This experience will not disappoint regardless of your knowledge of the man himself. For sure come and check it out. We both loved it
The Leonardo da Vinci Experience Museum in Rome offers a unique and engaging look into the mind of one of history’s greatest inventors. The interactive replicas and detailed exhibits are impressive and educational, making it a worthwhile stop for anyone interested in art, science, or history. While it didn’t completely blow me away, I genuinely enjoyed the visit and appreciated the effort to bring da Vinci’s vision to life. A solid and enriching experience overall!
A good experience, but quite expensive. The fact that the artefacts were interactive was great for the kids. However, being in Rome, you have so much to do, I don't know if that would be on my top recommendations.
I particularly loved the 3rd painting immmersion. On another nore, at 14 euro a ticket, a bathroom would be nice to have.
If you have any interest in Da Vinci or simply want to see what a brilliant mind can do, this is a must see. Inexpensive and excellent displays. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Good for all ages.
Very interesting but much smaller than I expected. Hands on things for everyone to try and to look at.
A lovely, modest museum that's great for families. It's small but very well organized, uncrowded and easy to navigate. The focus is on da Vinci's engineering works, with many hands-on models to observe and play with. A welcome respite from the more extravagant (albeit wonderful!) examples of Italian history and art throughout the City of Rome. If you've become overwhelmed by the crowds and visual overload of the major tourist sights, duck in here and relax for an hour, and learn about the genius of da Vinci. Many unique offerings in the gift shop as well. Enjoy!
Satisfactory museum experience. Immersive by being able to touch some of the experiments was wonderful and gave a better appreciation to some of the engineering behind his inventions. Audio guide automatically included in ticket is a nice touch as without, you'll be finished the experience too quick. Given a free pencil at the end. Don't expect to be wowed in amazement but nice to while away and hour of time, even if tickets are a little on the expensive side
This was just so so. The facility is cramped and there was an unpleasant odor throughout. Seemed to be part of the space and not a guest. Exhibits are hands on, but the associated in was presented on a laminated sheet. You use a device to touch the topic to listen to the details, but it was not great sound quality. I would skip this unless you already have a deep knowledge of LdVici and his inventions.
A very convenient location Very interactive and comprehensive of his life and work There are audio guides, in addition to videos and replicas of his work Has a VR experience to fly over Florence (which I didn’t do as my wife didn’t want to wait for me😅) The gift shop is amazing and has many educational stuff for kids (I bough some books for my 7 year old son) It’s a great experience and I highly recommend it
We were happy we made it to the museum. It was fun to try all Leonardo's inventions, to see all his famous paintings and to hear about them in the audio-guide. This place is not wheelchair accessible so be careful if you have difficulty walking. You don't need to buy tickets in advance, just buy them at the museum instead
Fun side trip after leaving the Vatican. Only took 30 mins or so. Interactive displays and informative materials.
Not very impressive but not as bad as stated in other reviews. It was within walking distance from our hotel and we did not have much time so it was a good choice for us. Museum was not very expensive and quite interesting experience with 11 years old kid. You can try a few things yourself in this small museum. It was not overcrowded and we found out some new interesting facts about da Vinci inventions. Generally it would not be no 1 choice of museums in Rome but if you do not have high expectations or do not have much time why not give it a try;)
What a prolific artist and inventor!! The museum showcased Leonardo’s talents very well. There were hands-on exhibits enjoyed by all, especially the children
Tourist trap What a dirty hole is this. Feel suck when i got out and everything is very fake and a small. Oh boy what am i stupid to fall for such an idiot experience. Be warned!
self guided audio tour gift shop extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff we really enjoyed the calm and quiet atmosphere in this charming museum. The displays and their descriptive narratives were interesting and full of great historical info
We had a great visit to this museum It was fascinating to see his ideas brought to life in the machines sections The reproduction paintings and drawings were worth seeing Also listening to the backstories and explanatons on the audio guide added a lot of interest in both parts
Interesting and worthwhile to visit anytime your in Rome. Da Vinci was such a genius and worthy of learning about
The experience was disappointing. The exhibit had very few items, the paintings were replicas, and the souvenir shop lacked quality items. I recommend exploring other activities in Rome, as there is so much more to do.
Apparently I bought a tour in rome thinking I was in Florence. Was not clear on the purchase. Did the Florence experience separately and would recommend.
This expo is all made of LDV creations/inventions replicas badly explained and presented. All replicas are interesting but it makes no sense how they are exposed. Lack of explanation everywhere and the audio guide is so annoying, long explanations that confuse more than anything. I have seen numerous expositions in several countries and this one is one of the worst! It is sad because the idea is interesting… basically badly designed, badly managed and badly ran.
Lots of models of many of da Vinci's inventions, some of them are interactive so kids can turn a crank to see how they work. There is also a large selection of his paintings on display. An audio guide, which you touch to a laminated card, explains many of the items on display.
It was a lovely and very unusual experience! We saw the museum on our way back from the Vatican and decided to go in. We were pleasantly surprised by all the replicas of Leonardo's inventions and paintings. It is not a big museum but very nice and cosy. The kids could interact with most of the inventions that kept their attention when we visited it. It is a bit pricy when you don't book online, but a great experience.
We learned so much! The amazing intelligence and artistry of Leonardo da Vinci is mind blowing! Great gift shop too
Great way to see and learn about Di Vinci’s genius inventions and paintings. We were very tired from so much walking all other days that we wanted a lighter activity for a change- this was perfect! It is a small museum but going at our own pace was a nice change. This is great for all ages.
We needed to break up the endless walking and queuing for the kids (8 & 11) so thought we’d give this a go. It was an insightful introduction into Da Vinci, easy to follow map and audio guide. Kids enjoyed all the hands on displays, especially the mirror wall. Spent just under an hour there, and kids said it was great fun. Adults learned a few things too!
Great museum. Time flies in there. Spent nearly 3 hours looking at his inventions and paintings. They have a nice shop if you want to buy some souvenirs too. ( I didn’t buy anything) Brilliant
However, the paintings are just copies , they nicely show the progression of DaVinci as an artist. The best part of the museum are the models of his inventions. Amazing ideas for his times.
We did not attend the experience because of confusion with the booking on Trip Advisor. We mistakenly thought that we had booked the museum and when we arrived there we learned that there is also the “ experience “. Trip Advisor should make it clear that there are 2 different exhibits
Easy to find location close to Vatican City in highly touristy area. Exhibit was well thought out and we'll laid out walking you through da Vinci's scientific models and inventions first, then his artworks. Each piece had a description and some history. I liked how they compared some of his art to other pieces he made. **Please note that all items are replicas not real. Audio pens were loud enough to hear in a crowd, but one of the two we were given the battery died on us. Not a big issue we shared the other and it was perfectly fine!
A fabulous self-paced, educational experience for adults, families, and children! My sister and I learned so much and it was so interesting! Who knew Leonardo da Vinci was an artist and an inventor of so many things? Enjoy!
This is for 3rd grade kids, at most. The place is small with obviously only reproductions. The bottom line is that you can perfectly skip this place and save some bucks that can be used for other purposes.
Cool spot, kids really enjoyed it, especially after a whole day of walking around Vatican. Super friendly staff and reasonably priced. Audioguide is very handy as you can go through the museum at your own pace.
Very interesting and interactive but the audio guide was not what it could have been in terms of presenting the information in an interesting way. A video about his life would have been a nice addition as well as the application of the inventions today. Not a must see, but nice filler activity with kids/teens.
Some interesting inventions, with useful audio guides. Could’ve been a little cheaper, as considering the museums size, it seemed a bit pricey.
Though this isn’t the biggest attraction in Rome, this was a cool spot to learn more about Leonardo Da Vinci! The audio guide was great. Interactive too!
Easy to get tickets to the museum and go in at any time that suited us. So easy to go round with the commentary . Very clever way of scanning each exhibit at your leisure for the commentary. Fantastic and value for money.
Really interesting place. We spent 1 hour there learning how things were thought by da Vinci. All the inventions are in wood and you can see how they work. Was worth the tickets.
Hands on inventions for our kids Museum replica paintings Items to purchase: prints, books, STEM projects Classy atmosphere and staff, who very pleasant and friendly...despite being very busy. 1st class 👏
