We booked the Hop On Hop Off 1 -day pass. We've found this kind of tour is usually a great way to see the highlights of a place you've never been. The route was good and the stops hit some great places in Rome. The bus itself was grubby and could have used a good scrubbing down. The staff on the bus was friendly and helpful. Overall it was a nice day in Rome!

Had a viator barcode. Driver didn't know what it was but let us on. Didn't feel confident to get back on so we only used it once. Good way to orient but I wouldn't get it again. Not good value
Excellent service, am very happy
Very difficult to find stops as hardly any signs at Terminus. Waited too long at stop points along the route. Otherwise we enjoyed the route and sights along the way.
Fcuking freezing management upstairs with thier room heating on downstairs colder than a bus shelter
My first time to Rome and traveling Solo Taking the but tour gave me a quick lay of the land which then allowed me to get off at the stops for the sights I wanted to explore staff at bus stops very helpful
Great job maneuvering through narrow streets with lots of traffic! Historic Rome in a day! If you’re planning to hop off a lot start early !
I would not recommend this tour company to anyone! The buses are unclean and the seats are disgustingly dirty Many of the audio outlets are inoperable! Not worth the money!
Hard to find first stop. Wish you stopped closer to coliseum!!! On a good note!!! Francis. was very helpful outside at the Vatican stop - thank goodness for his kindness!!!!
Everything was nice and cool, quite well organised. Thanks for the miracle journey.
Could not get information or assistance without jumping through hoops. Would not use again. Terrible time in the city.
A great way to see the main sights of Rome.
I read previous reviews and was concerned we had made the wrong choice, it turned out to be one of the best ways to get around Rome, yes the traffic was slow going, but that affected Taxis too, which we used, waiting in the traffic would up the price too, on the bus you had audio explaining the buildings you were passing and how to walk the the Mouth of Truth, the staff were very pleasant, also perfect when you were tired of walking all day or have mobility issues
Nice way to get around and learn about Rome. Bus was clean and audio clear. Stops are far apart and I would recommend to add a stop or two to the itinerary.-
Very nice bus with audio guide in several languages, going through the most iconic places in rome, you can choose to hop in or off anywhere and enjoy in a waliking distance all the attractions.
The audio guide was great but the staff was rude and unhelpful. I wanted to extend my half day pass to a full day. The guy I was taking to walked away as I was talking to him and went to speak to another person (from a different bus company). The experience was so bad I ended up leaving and booking with another bus company
We were stuck in traffic for over an hour with nothing but a short jazzy sound loop repeating over & over & over. Don’t waste your money or your time.
There is a bus every 15 minutes. On top open roof (closes if raining), inside air conditioned. Be aware some stops can be a bit of a walk from the venue. Worst example is The vatican, its 1Km from the stop by the river due to traffic restrictions. Its a lovely walk as long as you are ready for it. Other stops are right outside, eg the Coloseium
Excellent bus service. Great stops, clean buses and great staff. I’m so glad we chose to do this as we wouldn’t have seen the surroundings and known some of the history. As we had done most of the main sights, this was a nice alternative but also stopped at the main sights too. I’d definitely book again
Extremely poor directions as to where exactly to catch the bus. Only general locations are given which were next to useless. We had to hunt around the Piazza Venezia for 40 minutes watching two buses go past and asking several people where to catch the bus before we found out. This is the same for all stops except for Termini station . A problem that could so easily be fixed on their website but wasn’t and caused considerable frustration. The only sites you actually see are the bus station, Saint Mary Major, and the Colosseum. All the other sites including the Vatican the Spanish steps and the Trevi fountain you don’t see at all just the streets surrounding it. The audio guide was okay but was spoilt by annoying music on a loop. It was okay for getting a sense of the city but extremely poorly managed and very lazily presented.
Great for the first day in Rome. Hop off hop on is very flexible and is a great way to see the city and all its history.
The waits at each stop were longer than I expected. If you want mainly a bus tour with information about what you are seeing, this is not the best choice. If you want to see certain sites, you can walk there from the Hop on Hop Off bus stops.
We joined the hop on hop off bus at Circus Maximus (stop 4). Having booked online it was hard to find the bus stop from the tiny digital map (it’s halfway along Circus Maximus just over the brow of a hill and not quite visible from the Metro Station). The service is a bit disorganised - the driver told us to get on and use our online booking QR code to collect tickets from somebody at stop 5, but nobody could help us with this admin job until stop 6. We didn’t find any earphones on the first bus. The buses wait for about 10 minutes at each stop. There is some limited AC on the ground floor but it barely makes an impact, so we felt like dogs locked in a hot car. The top floor is fully open air - we weren’t up for that on a 36 degree day. After getting off at Termini we decided to use our Metro passes to get back to Circus Maximus in more comfort…
First bus broke. Second bus was a chaos to get in. Audios did not work. Upper roof was broken ans could not be closed.
All went well with this company until late in the day when we had to wait over an hour for a bus, and we weren’t sure if any more buses would come. Thankfully we weren’t in a rush, but it was cert hot and my elderly mother was struggling in the heat. We were told buses would come every 10-15 mins, but this wasn’t the case. Other bus lines were coming past frequently, so in future I’d go with the red buses or city sightseeing.
A great way to see the city. The audio guide was interesting and entertaining.
We only chose this as it offered a Kids English commentary - and we were delighted we did! It was great to keep our 9yo entertained - the adult commentary would have bored her. So if you have kids, this is the tour bus for you!
This bus was not as nice as the other bus companies. The AC did not really work. This bus did not go all the places the others went to. They did not have as many buses, so you had to wait for a bus to come while the other companies would have two or three come by while you wait.
Caution- I booked a trip at 7:30 in the evening for a tour around the city and I called for help and was told the buses end at 6:30 which was not advertised when purchasing the tickets. No refund was provided. The tickets I purchased said the time was available. I’m not happy. I don’t want anyone else to get ripped off.
The bus is not on the stops as frequently as they say. It should be every 15 minutes.. other services are more frequent or have more busses in route. Staff is not friendly. No information when you can get out of the bus. Not a good experience.
Good experience when visiting Rome for the first time However, the bus was not really clean, a pity!
This was the worst hop on off bus we have ever used. The locations of the stops were so far away from the attractions we didn't even get off the bus. I have some trouble walking but reasonable distances are ok I missed going into major things..like coliseum and Vatican. Had to use expensive taxi!! Very disappointed 😞
It was a little out of the way for my start of my experience. Started at Circus Maximus and then took me to several stops that was convenient! The rotation on the route was good and I didn't have to wait for long. Being that it was summer months I wish the air conditioning was working, but that is just a little inconvenience. Overall I did like the availability
Not good as far as finding stations. Never made it to one. We walked over a mile. The idea was not to walk. Got an Uber to bring us back. Not a good experience for us. Even made a call for help to them.
Overall trip was good and the bus stopped at the usual attraction except the colleseum as the stop was closed. THe only downside was We stayed near the Vatican and the pick up point for thbus was a 20 min walk and I thought all the companies were a little expensive.
refused entry with carry on suitcase
Whilest I like the idea of hop on hop off buses in major cities, I don’t think Rome does it very well. Not sure why the buses cannot stop directly in front of the sites. Most of the sites are a good 10-15 min walk away from where the bus leaves you. You’re better off getting a taxi in and than walking around to most of the attractions yourself. We paid $151 for a 48hr pass and only used it from stop 6 to 7!! (Castel sant’angelo stop to Spanish steps). The rest we did by foot and on the next day just caught a taxi to Vatican to tick that one off the list. Wouldn’t do this again in Rome.
Drop of and collection places pretty far from the tourist destinations ( understandably ) however another bus tour company seemed to go past main roads also so the hop on places seemed far more convenient
This bus was extremely underwhelming. We felt like we were on a city bus just picking up people. The only scenic thing we saw was the Colosseum. All the stops were far from everything and when we plugged our earphones in . We could hear anything. Both adaptors were broke. Never had this experience on Big Bus. Will definitely stick with them next time!!
Horrible experience they only have 4 busses and only 3 work today. The busses come once every 1.5 hours and are completely packed with not enough space to accommodate your party. Don’t waste your money or time!! Very difficult to get a refund.
This company only has 4 busses in Rome (actually only 3 today) compared to nearly 20 that Big Bus has. Therefore we were not actually able to get on a bus. Requested refund and they would not give one.
The first bus had the copertina pulled off and we did have nice views. The second bus had the copertina on and the views were limited. I understood that the sun was strong and it was a very big heat, but I think the most important was the views and the people from the bus could have put something on their heads
Awful experience - they say it’s 15 min between buses - but this is a lie - sometimes it’s up to 30 min. It’s faster to walk. Also, they wait a lot in the stop - so the tour is 1 hour 40 min - they have only 4-5 busses - this is a cheap tour - but the service is poor. Also, buses are dirty !!!!!! Other companies ask more money - but better service.
Three buses went past not stopping No stop anywhere near the Coliseum, fewer buses than anyone else. For us a complete waste of money.I would not recommend this operator.
Perfect way to explore the city in the 1st day of stay. No A/C and it was the main blow during the hot days.
Be prepared for stops to take time. It gets hot in June! The headsets weren’t very loud but I was able to understand them.
We wathing the bus stop more 1 hours in 36 celsius. ... Terrible
Map too vague, signage abysmal and nobody informed us one stop closed. We only hopped on once as a result. Complete waste of money. Loved walking endless miles in 90 degrees as result.
Couldn’t locate a single stop from which I could „hop on“
We got on the first Hop On Hop Off Bus in the morning on June 12, 2026 in Vatican City. The drive yelled at us when we were boarding the bus. Then when people were trying to get ready to get off at Colosseum, the driver yelled at the passengers to sit down while slamming on the brakes. One senior woman fell down on the bus floor. The driver is rude, unsafe, and burnout.
