Peter gave us an unbelievable day. We had been to a few of the places so he pivoted and showed us some places we never knew existed. He took us to an underground church, showed us some of his favorite works of art and churches off the beaten path while still getting the appian way and Aqueduct park etc. He is a wealth of historic and artistic knowledge. I wish we could have spent a week with him

The Appian Way was a crucial road for the Roman Empire. It connected Rome to some of its most distant settlements. Originally built by Appius Claudius Caecus, the then-censor of Rome, the road connected Rome to Capua near Naples. Eventually, it extended more than 300 miles to Brindisi, Puglia on the Adriatic Coast, making it the widest and longest road in existence at the time. Called the “Queen of Roads,” it’s construction was truly momentous, especially considering it was built in 312 BC! Even compared to many of the other best attractions in Rome, The Appian Way is incredibly well-preserved. It’s made of large, flat stones, which have been firmly set in place by thousands of years of rain, wheels, and feet passing over them.
This cemetery, named after the martyr St. Sebastian, who is buried here, was originally called "ad catacumbas". According to the widely acknowledged explanation, the name signifies "near the hollows", because of the mines of tuff located in this area. The name was later used generally to indicate all subterranean Christian cemeteries. Another ancient name of the cemetery was "Apostolic Memorial" (Memoria Apostolorum). The name derives from the liturgical celebrations, dedicated to the Apostles Peter and Paul, which took place here for a limited period in the first centuries. From the first century, the site had been intensely exploited and constructed upon. The caves and the tunnels of the mines were used for pagan and Christian rectangular wall tombs (loculi), as well smaller tombs (colombari) used to house urns. At least two residential buildings were constructed above ground, especially noted for their interior wall painting decorations.
Located on the outskirts of Rome, Parco degli Acquedotti is one of Rome’s most interesting parks. One of Rome’s must underexplored outdoor spaces, Parco degli Acquedotti offers a taste of the grandeur of the ancient empire’s famous aqueducts. The structures were built to bring fresh water from the mountains and countrysides into the city. That they still stand today is a testament to this incredible feat of engineering. Virtually tourist free, locals know that this section of Parco dell’Appia Antica is perfect for enjoying Rome’s near-perfect weather. Just a few miles from the center of Rome, the park contains long stretches of the Aqua Felix, as well as portions of the aqueduct known as Aqua Claudia. The wide expanses of meadows, dotted with umbrella pines and crisscrossed with the massive ancient ruins feels other worldly. The large grassy areas under the aqueducts are filled with picnicking families on the weekends, but you can also rent a bike to explore the park. Most simple of all is to visit Parco degli Acquedotti with plenty of time to stroll. Exploring the park on foot is one of the best free things to do in Rome throughout the year.
Built between the years 212 and 216 under the direction of Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus, more commonly known as Emperor Caracalla, the Baths of Caracalla were one of the greatest and most spectacular thermal complexes in ancient times. In spite of the fact that today only the brick walls and large collapsed vaults remain, the remnant of the splendour of the Baths of Caracalla is still preserved.
The Tiber is one of longest rivers in Italy, the second longest river after the Po. The Tiber is about 250 miles long and varies between 7 and 20 feet deep. It flows from the Apennines at Mount Fumaiolo through Rome and into the Tyrrhenian Sea at Ostia. Most of the city of Rome is to the east of the Tiber River. The area to the west, including the island in the Tiber, Insula Tiberina or Insula Sacra, was included in Region XIV of Caesar Augustus's administrative areas of the city of Rome.
Trastevere, sitting just down the Tiber from the Vatican, is a city within a city; an enclave with its own identity where the locals have generally greeted creeping commercialisation and ongoing attempts at gentrification with a wonderfully Roman disdain, flatly refusing to let such shenanigans impede on the richness of their daily lives. A strong sense of civic pride resides among the Medieval maze of piazzas and cobbled vicoli (alleyways). An old friend of mine, native born to the area, has even turned his back on following the capital’s beloved AS Roma football club and instead spends his weekends rooting for the Trastevere Calcio team (you can find them, should you look hard enough, down in the murky depths of the Italian game’s fourth tier). Not that this is an unwelcoming place. Far from it. Joining in the fun, becoming a part of Trastevere’s great bustling backdrop is easy to do, whether you’re simply sitting on the steps of the Piazza Trilussa or ordering a coffee at the counter of one of the area’s many bars.
The recent restoration of one of Rome’s oldest churches has given new life to the 12th-century Pietro Cavallini mosaics (including his celebrated Vita della Vergine) and frescoes and marbles of more recent vintage. Domenichino’s gloriously Baroque 16th-century octagonal gold ceiling also houses one of his greatest paintings, L’Assunzione della Vergine (1616-1617). Dating back to the third century at least, the church has a decent claim to being the first official Christian place of worship in the city.
The Janiculum is one of the best locations in Rome for a scenic view of central Rome with its domes and bell towers. Other sights on the Janiculum include the church of San Pietro in Montorio, on what was formerly thought to be the site of St Peter's crucifixion; a small shrine known as the Tempietto, designed by Donato Bramante, marks the supposed site of Peter's death. The Janiculum also houses a Baroque fountain built by Pope Paul V in the late 17th century, the Fontana dell'Acqua Paola, and several foreign research institutions, including the American Academy in Rome and the Spanish Academy in Rome. The Hill is also the location of The American University of Rome, Pontifical Urban University, and Pontifical North American College, as well as the Orto Botanico dell'Università di Roma "La Sapienza" and the Palazzo Montorio, residence of the Ambassadors of Spain.

We did two tour. Pre and post cruise. Both were fabulous!! Would use them over and over. Did our first trips with them in 2013 in three ports in italy. All drivers were wonderful!
We had the pleasure of having Stefan as our guide on 2 separate days in Rome. His knowledge of the area and the history was amazing. He was kind and thoughtful throughout our time with him and provided depth and insight.
The Hidden Rome tour was great for seeing some sights in Rome that are off the beaten path. Our driver, Stefan, was terrific! He picked us up promptly at our hotel and gave us a lot of information about the sights we saw. We had to make a few changes in the itinerary because of opening days/times and he came through with substitutions that worked well. My husband says he felt like a rock star being driven around and dropped off and picked up right at the sights we were visiting. Jany at RomeinLimo was great to work with for booking. She answered all our questions and was always prompt with her email replies. I highly recommend their tours!
We had a fantastic time provided by Rome in limo. Our tour guide was Peter who knew the city well and brought us to most of the points to see in Rome. He allowed us plenty of time at each location for us to wander while he waited patiently for us. Should we go back to Rome, we would certainly reserve them again as it was much more enjoyable being guided than being on our own. Thanks again to Peter.
We had used Rome in Limo in the past and had an excellent experience. This time, we were traveling with friends who had never visited Rome. We strongly recommended this day tour and they agreed to sign up for it. We went with them again. Although we had a different tour guide, it was, once again, an excellent tour. Our guide customized the day to our preferences and the other couple was so thankful we suggested this tour and had a great time (whew!), as did we! I would recommend this tour group to anyone. Quality is always worth the cost. Bill Reedy
Top notch operator with great guide - thank you Stefano!!!!
We booked RomeInLimo for our visit to Rome and Naples ahead of our Mediterranean cruise, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the experience. The drivers and tour guides were exceptional—kind, courteous, respectful, and incredibly knowledgeable about Italy’s rich history and culture. Their warmth and professionalism truly enhanced our trip, turning it into a meaningful and unforgettable journey. Highly recommended!
Our children who own a travel agency and have used Rome-In-Limo’s service recommended them to us, so we decided to give them a try. We had been on a transatlantic cruise and had paid for excursions at the various ports before ending in Rome. They were expensive, crowded, rushed, and frankly I was not ready for anything like the same when we got to Rome. I had booked the Hidden Rome Tour, and we were picked up by Steve in a nice Mercedes van. The day could not have been better. Steve took us to places in comfort and was the best tour guide we have ever experienced! Unlike most excursions with many people, there was never a rush. We visited those places we hadn’t seen on our previous trip to Rome. And our time in our private van with our Steve as our guide cost about as much as a ship sponsored excursion would have cost, but with far great comfort and leisurely time. My wife and I are elderly, so the face-paced does not suit us, however, I would recommend Rome-In-Limo for all age groups. I cannot say enough about how great their service was, and we plan on using them again on a future visit to Rome!
Francesco was an exceptional tour guide. He drove us to the lesser known parts of Rome (many of which we would have never ventured out to) and was a wealth of information. He also included visits to St. Paul, St. John and St. Mary’s churches, which were not originally part of our tour. It was a chance of a lifetime to enter these churches through the main door during the Jubilee Year. I highly recommend this tour and Francesco as a tour guide!
Excellent tour of Rome with a stop at St. Peter’s Basilica. Our Guide, Peter was the best guide. He toured us all around Rome, had some valuable information that he shared with us. If you’re going to Italy I would highly recommend that you use Rome in Limo. We were on a cruise and used Rome in Limo on all ports that we stopped in Italy and probably had a better experience than being on a big tour and it was cheaper than the cruise tours.
Rome In Limo is a great experience!!! I use their service every time I travel to Italy. The drivers and tour guides are knowledgeable and engaging. It is a first class operation!!! It is the best way to see Rome or any city in Italy. You can relax and see the sites at your own pace without being on a strict schedule. Using Rome In Limo takes a lot of stress out of visiting bustling tourist attractions!!!
Our guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating. Some attractions were closed due to the New Year’s holiday, but he made great suggestions to make up for the things we could not see. Will recommend it if you want to explore the outskirts of Rome.
This is our second trip to Italy and we were so impressed with Romeinlimo the first trip for our 3 stops, we booked them again on this trip over. Again we booked the 3 excursions with them. Jany answers all questions quickly and the drivers/guides are amazing. The vehicles are super comfortable and the drivers very knowledgable. If you want stress free, but complete tours in Itally - I would 100% use this company again - in fact we are returning to Italy again in August 2025 and will be booking with this company again. You should look at their website - they have several excursions available at each port - so something for everyone. Safe, affordable, knowledgable, comprehensive and flexible - what more could you ask for?
Great trip with Peter. He was super knowledgeable and flexible on what we wanted to see. We saw parts of Rome we hadn’t seen before even though been there numerous times.
Stephano gave a great tour! He was an outstanding raconteur, making each stop along the route both interesting and educational. We visited some fascinating and beautiful churches and several other sites that were steeped in the history of the region, and which were not crowded, but really should not be missed.
Simply amazing! Wasn’t sure what to expect but Stefano was so knowledgeable and engaging, we were very disappointed when the time was up because we were having so much fun. He was full of stories and took us to beautiful places that are normally not part of a typical Rome itinerary. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about Rome and had a lot of suggestions for additional places that are worth seeing. I would highly recommended this tour.
This was the best way to see some of the harder to get to sites in Rome: the Via Appia, catacombs, aqueduct, a couple of churches and the best view of the city among many places. Our driver Stefano clearly loves his city and is incredibly knowledgeable and super friendly. We were lucky to spend 6 hours with him. We also loved the place he recommended for lunch where we had fantastic pizza, rice balls and sandwiches. This is totally worth the money especially if you want to get away from the large crowds and see hidden gems.
My cousin and I thoroughly enjoyed the Rome In Limo experience! From Livio greeting us at FCO and two days of touring to Dan touring us up and down the Amalfi coast! Both guides were courteous, friendly, knowledgeable and excellent drivers navigating the sometimes challenging roads in Italy! Livio toured us around places that were new to us. Dan presented a native's view of life on the Almalfi coast. The bonus was a delicious meal at an olive oil grove. Truly memorable! Janey coordinated the tours with my cousin and the outcome was perfect! Just the right amount of time exploring and stops at local food vendors. Livio drove us to Tuscany for lunch, wine tasting and cooking class. Superb! Our time spent in Siena was memorable! our drivers from the port -hotel and hotel -FCO were also A+ Thank You Rome In Limo for providing us with the best custom Italy adventure.
A work colleague told me about this private tour with Rome in a limousine. He had taken it a few years ago. I set it up for three couples celebrating a lifetime of friendship. It couldn't have been better. The van was uber comfortable. The office manager, Jany, helped us through ideas and last-minute changes of plans with flawless ease. Our driver, Nick, couldn't have been better. Intelligent, knowledgeable about current and past events, and funny. Funny is important to us. We saw more of the city and parts of it I'd never seen (this was my second trip to Rome). We saw all the must-sees, you know what they are, and some hidden gems. Plus, he stopped often enough for the obligatory selfies that satisfied us. It was a perfect day and a perfect way to see Rome. The Trip Advisor tips also tell me to add any negatives. Once I think of one, I'll rewrite it. The bonus is that Nick dropped us off for lunch at a recommended spot. From the outside, I would never have picked it—there was no outdoor seating, for example. But one glance at the tables packed with locals, and I knew we were in the right spot. The meal now ranks in my official top 5 of all our world travels over twenty-plus years. Look for the review soon. Put it on your list, as well as Nick and Rome in Limo.
The guide started strong but then lost interest. He did not have much knowledge of many of the places on the tour. The tour is described as “ guided” but there was no guiding at any of our stops except at the Aurelian wall and briefly on the Appian Way. We were just left to enter the baths of Caracalla and were not even taken to the top of the Janiculum Hill.
Great tour in Rome going to places that are not that usual. Pietro was a great tour guide/driver and the 6 hours went fast. It was a very fulfilling experience visiting so many historical places there.
This tour was excellent for those who have already seen the major highlights and want to see some extras that are not on the regular path. It was also very nice to have some flexibility about where we went, based on what our interests were. Thank you for being so considerate of our time and taking us all over the city to find the best hidden gems. Truly a memorable day. Comfortable and clean vehicle, too! Could not ask for more,
We appreciated seeing parts of Rome we wouldn't have found ourselves. Visiting the Appian Way and walking in/on the old city walls. Our guide, Stefano, was personable and gave us lots of information to process. He was able to adapt to our interests. Catacomb tour was good. Would recommend this tour for seeing interesting parts of Rome.
We had an amazing two days exploring Rome thanks to Jany and Nick! Jany was so helpful in picking the right tours for our group of 7 adults and limited tim frame before our cruise. All inquires )and I had many) were answered promptly and went above and beyond what I expected to help me plan when we needed tickets etc. when we arrived in Rome we were met at the airport by our amazing driver and guide, Nick. He was so wonderful. He was a very knowledgeable, handled the traffic and tight spaces like a pro, a real joy to spend two days with. The rest of our trip we kept saying “well Nick would have…” lol. We had limited time and tight turnarounds for tour times but he was able to let us see everything we planned. On our second day he picked us up at our hotel and continued our tour with some more hidden gems, and then took us to our cruise ship. It was a stress free, well organized, and more than expected. Would highly recommend this team for your tour of Rome!
brilliant day, our driver / guide stefano was very well informed, told us in detail all aspects of our trip, pick up prompt, great day out, would highly recomend
Our tour with Piero was absolutely wonderful! He took us to places we wanted to see and got us close enough so any walking was short and easy. Since we were there on Easter Monday, some sites were unavailable. But he more than made up for them. We got advance tickets for a self-guided tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Piero took us to the best drop-off site and was there when we exited the Colosseum. Plus, the stop for gilato near Piazza Navona was just what we needed for a snack! Our tour started at the hotel in Rome and ended embarking at the Viking Star at the Port of Citavecchia.
Michel was prompt, accommodating and the van was new and comfortable. He picked us up at our apartment, which is a definite plus. We did not have to walk to and try to find a pickup point in another part of the city, which is something I personally don’t like to do. Michel made certain that he covered places that we wanted to see and focused on areas that he knew were a priority for us. He was very pleasant and easy to be with, sharing his knowledge of Rome, both historically and culturally…..and pointing out places to eat along the way! He stopped at a sandwich shop that was wonderful and because it was in a busy area we would have missed otherwise. It didn’t have other tourists there, which was a plus. This is a great way to see parts of Rome that other tourists may miss.
This is the best way to see Rome. Our private driver, who accompanied us 3 days out our week stay, was absolutely fantastic. Peter showed us Rome and we enjoyed every minute of our tours. He is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about ever thing and took a personal interest in my family. Definite 10 out of 10 experience. Well worth the price for the personal experience. We will use this service when we return with Peter, of course.
This was our 3rd time using RomeInLimo for private touring before a cruise departing Civitavecchia. We requested the same driver/guide (Peter) as we used last November and were so happy he was able to guide us again. It was like reuniting with an old friend. We were accompanied by my sister-in-law who had never been to Rome, so we visited a few old favorite sites and a few new sites. RomeinLimo is a good option for shore excursions and airport or cruise port transfers. They have comfortable vehicles and wonderful drivers. It is a good value for money if you are two or more people or if you want to maximize seeing only the sites that interest you on your schedule. We included stops for lunch, gelato, an evening drink on Piazza Navona. They will work with you to customize the itinerary to your interests or limitations. We used the company for airport to city transfer, a night tour, a full day tour and transfer to the port. All went smoothly. If we our in Rome again I will not hesitate to contact RomeInLimo.
This was our second visit to Rome. We used Rome in Limo the first time and were very pleased with them so of course we used them on our second visit to Rome. Our driver, Stephano, was waiting for us when we exited the security area of the cruise port. After the introductions, we were off. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about all of the places he took us to. He was very happy to answer all our questions and we learned so much from him. We had a very enjoyable trip and would not hesitate to use this company again.
Francisco (our driver) was fantastic. He adjusted our tour slightly since we had been to Rome before and had seen. He was very knowledgeable as he grew up in Rome. This is the second trip where we have used them and they did not disappoint either time.
Arranged for pickup coming off cruise port. Toured Rome full day and dropped off at airport in evening. Driver and guide Maurizio was terrific. Helpful, friendly, on time, and flexible. We toured Colosseum from outside, got a sightseeing tour of Rome, went to a vintage clothing shop, before a wonderful lunch. After that we headed to the Vatican and directly off to the airport. This was great tour. All our luggage for 5 fit perfectly in Maurizio’s very comfortable Mercedes van. I would recommend this tour if you are transiting from cruise debarkation to a late flight out of Rome. And I am sure any trip with RomeLimo is well planned.
Rome In Limo is an excellent service and good way to see many Historic sites of Rome. Our driver and tour guide, Peter, made our trip to Rome very special. He made sure we got to see the things we were most interested in. I want to thank him very much for a wonderful experience. Peter was very knowledgeable about the history of the city and made it very interesting. Our transfer drivers were excellent and spoke English very well. Meeting times and pick-ups were always on time. I was very pleased with their service and would definitely use them again.
A wonderful experience. Classy and well informed. Very special and the best tour ever. We will always remember Peter, our guide. Peter made it a very special day. With Peter, we fell in love with Rome.
We really enjoyed a tour with our driver, Luca. He made sure we saw the things we most wanted to see, including a tour of the Catacombs, roman aqueducts, and got to walk along the Appian Way. He took us to a lovely Osteria where we had a delicious Italian meal, and then to his favorite gelato place. We also checked out the views from the Keyhole, and Janiculum hill. He provided us with umbrellas for the rainy day, and gave us lots of information and history while we were driving. It was a wonderful day! Thank you Luca!!!
Our fabulous driver Big Luca made sure we had as much time as desired in certain neighborhoods, churches, piazzi & museums, as well as the main sites of the Rome in a Day tour. He picked us up at our hotel, parked close to our stops & was always there to whisk us away to the next gem! It made perfect use of our limited time. Result? We fell in love with Rome - and we are thrilled to learn Rome in Limo tours are offered in other areas of Bella Italy!
We were referred to Rome in Limo by a very trusted friend. Believe me when I say she was spot on. This was the best way to get around and see all the things you hoped to be able to. Our driver Enrico was so polite and respectful of me and my fathers needs. He helped make Rome even more memorable.
We had used Rome In Limo back in 2003 and have recommended them to friends over the years who had an amazing experience with them. We arrived at the port of Chiviterria and met by Stefano in a Mercedes Sedan. We made the drive to Rome with Stefano telling us about various interesting stories about Rome. We decided to visit St. Peter’s Basilica before the crowds built up since it was World Tourist Day. This was a great decision and only had a short security line. The Basilica is beautiful and not to be missed. We then visited other sites making our way to the Coliseum but many roads that day were closed due School Student Strike for the Environment! Stefano knew shortcuts around city streets that got us around to road just across from the Coliseum! Beautiful view! Rome In Limo had made arrangements for head of the line tickets to the Vatican Museum. The lines were huge as we had just driven by on way to neighborhood pizza store Stefano knows! The pizza was amazing and there were many choices! Price was inexpensive! We then went back to the Vatican Museum where we had an amazing visit to the museum and the Sistine Chapel. Stefano was waiting for us as we made our way out of the museum! We made our way back to our cruise ship in sufficient time before it left the port!
We had the most amazing experience on our private tour with our driver Stefano and our tour guide Barbara - Simply put, if you want an inside scoop of Rome, have the best driver who makes it his personal mission to show you things in Rome you wouldn't see without him, and want an experienced tour guide of the Vatican, do this tour. You won't be sorry.
Just finished a tour with Lucca. Was amazing to get out of the city and discover places in Rome without hundreds of tourists. Lucca brought us to a fabulous restaurant and the best Gelateria yet. Wonderful tour, wonderful guide. Would highly recommend!
Our driver Giovanni was excellent. He was at the cruise port waiting for us. Once we met him, we were on our way to see many of the most popular sites Rome has to offer. As we drove down the expressway, he pointed out many of the vineyards and spoke to us about how they harvest the grapes to make Chianti. We then made quick stops to the Pantheon and The Trevi Fountain (where I had the most amazing cannoli), and The Wedding Cake among other sites. When we made it to Colosseum, Giovanni walked us to our meeting point for our tour and waited for us until it was over. We then headed over for a quick lunch at Pizza Rustica since we had 1:00 pm tickets for the Vatican Museums and Sistene Chapel. Giovanni always made sure we understood where the meeting points were and showed us where the entrances to the sites were. He is very knowledgeable and a great drive. I would definitely recommend him.
My family traveled to Rome via cruise (ages ranged from 4-80years) we chose this tour in hopes to capture Rome’s amazing sites in one day and Gary did just that! The tour was fantastic! Gary and Nic were very knowledgeable and made sure even our youngest traveler felt included. Thank you ‘Rome in Limo’ for making our short time in Rome such a unique experience!
Absolutely fabulous day trip with our guide Fabio. He wasn't good. He was SPECTACULAR. So energetic and kept my kids engaged the whole time. So courteous and polite. We can't wait to use this company again. Thank you!
Booked this wonderful tour! Have booked with Romeinlimo a few times now and have always had a great time. Our private tour with Luka was outstanding. He was professional fun accommodating. This is a way to see Rome. Highly recommend!!
We had an absolutely wonderful day with Enrico. He picked us up at our hotel in downtown Rome (right on time), and then drove to 4 terrific stops: (i) a secret look-out over Lago di Vico, (ii) a fantastic lakeside restaurant for a delicious and leisurely lunch, (iii) a self-guided tour of the Palazzo Farnese, and (iv) a self-guided tour of the Villa Lante. All were beautiful. All were different. All made us feel a part of Italy instead of a tourist. Enrico then dropped us off safely at our next hotel in in Soriano Nel Cimino. Simply a perfect day with a perfect host. Enrico is extremely friendly and knowledgeable, very accommodating, and a very safe driver! We could not have had a better experience.
I booked a private tour of Rome during a stopover on my cruise. While the cost was a bit more than some of the shore excursions offered by the cruise line, it was so worth it. While hoping for something better than a ‘normal shore excursion’ Ihad no idea how much better this would be. I couldn’t have asked for more. Having a friendly, knowledgeable driver was amazing. I can easily say this tour was worth every penny. We will be sure to book again with RomeInLimo next time we are there.
