Our experience with Rome in Limo was absolutely flawless from start to finish! We booked a tour of the Amalfi Coast, Ravello, and Pompeii, and the entire day completely blew us away. Our driver, Maria, was amazing—professional, warm, and she navigated the winding, stunning coastal roads with absolute ease. When we arrived in Pompeii, we were paired with Rose Marie as our private tour guide, and she was simply incredible. Her deep knowledge, passion, and engaging storytelling brought the ancient city to life in a way we never expected.Pompeii completely exceeded all of our expectations. It is mind-blowing to stand in a Roman city that was buried when Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD 79 and remained perfectly preserved under layers of volcanic ash for nearly 1,700 years. What amazed us most was just how advanced Roman society truly was. Walking through the ruins, you see genius engineering everywhere:The ancient bathhouses featured brilliant curved ceilings and double walls designed to circulate heat and channel condensation down the sides so bathers wouldn't be dripped on.The brick bread ovens look almost identical to the modern wood-fired pizza ovens we use today. The ancient amphitheater has such flawless acoustic engineering that iconic modern artists like Madonna and John Legend have chosen to perform there.Rose Marie kept repeating, "We didn't invent anything," and she was spot on—the Romans really had it all figured out!We also loved learning the quirky and fascinating details of daily life. For instance, they used lead pipes for water systems (which we now know is a health hazard). While the average life expectancy was only 35, Rose Marie explained that this was heavily skewed by high infant mortality; if a Roman survived childhood, they routinely lived into their 50s or beyond. And my companion Mike got a massive kick out of the original "Roman GPS"—phallic symbols carved into the stone streets to guide traveling sailors straight to the local brothels!Seeing the plaster casts of the victims was a deeply moving and haunting experience. Rose Marie explained how archaeologist Giuseppe Fiorelli pioneered a groundbreaking technique in 1863, pouring liquid plaster into the hollow cavities left behind as organic matter decomposed within the hardened ash. Chipping the ash away revealed exact, heartbreaking 3D representations of the citizens in their final moments. It was also surprising to learn that despite their immense intelligence, the residents had no idea Vesuvius was an active volcano. Because it had been quiet for centuries, they completely misjudged the warning earthquakes.Walking those ancient streets made us so curious about the history that Mike and I have already started watching a documentary series to learn even more. Pompeii is so much more than just ruins. It is a powerful reminder of human brilliance, the fragility of life, and how much we can learn from the past.Thank you, Rome in Limo, Maria, and Rose Marie, for an unforgettable day! Itinerary
Visit included only if this tour option is chosen. Pompei is a city and comune in the Metropolitan City of Naples in Italy, home of the ancient Roman ruins part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is one of the most significant proofs of Roman civilization and, like an open book, provides outstanding information on the art, customs, trades and everyday life of the past. The city has re-emerged from the darkness of centuries precisely as it would have been when it was unexpectedly buried in the thick layer of ash and lava which poured down from the devastating eruption of Vesuvius.
Magically suspended between the blue sky and the iridescent colored sea, the Amalfi coast seems to be born from the palette of a painter who wanted to use the warmer color gradients for creating a landscape that enchants the visitor at the first shot, giving thrilling experience and such evocative view to doubt, for a moment, it is real. It is the land where the sweet scent of lemon blossoms harmonizes itself with the most aromatic one of the Mediterranean vegetation and the acrid aroma of saltiness; where the brilliant colors of the majolica domes, bougainvillea and carnations pergolas give an evident colored touch to the typical whitewashed houses, clinging to the last offshoots of the Lattari Mounts that plunge dramatically into the sea.
Visit included only if this tour option is chosen. Ercolano is a town and comune in the Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania of Southern Italy. It lies at the western foot of Mount Vesuvius, on the Bay of Naples, just southeast of the city of Naples. The medieval town of Resina was built on the volcanic material left by the eruption of Vesuvius (79 AD) that destroyed the ancient city of Herculaneum, from which the present name is derived. Ercolano is a resort and the starting point for excursions to the excavations of Herculaneum and for the ascent of Vesuvius by bus. The town also manufactures leather goods, buttons, glass, and the wine known as Lacryma Christi (Tears of Christ)
Dramatic, deluxe and more than a little dashing, Positano is the Amalfi Coast's front-cover splash, with vertiginous houses tumbling down to the sea in a cascade of sun-bleached peach, pink and terracotta. No less photo-worthy are its steep streets and steps, flanked by wisteria-draped hotels, smart restaurants and fashionable retailers. A pearl of the Amalfi Coast, it presents itself as a cluster of pastel houses clinging to the steep ledges of the Lattari Mountains, which reflect themselves in the clear sea below, surrounded by an intense fragrance of lemon and bright and vivid colors of bougainvillea. A maze of alleys and steps with small shops displaying the typical products of local crafts, which, together with the undisputed beauty of the landscape, have contributed to make Positano and the Amalfi Coast famous world-wide. We refer to the fresh linen dresses in style "Positano fashion", the leather sandals, the colorful ceramics and the limoncello.

Extremely nice and communicative company. The driver was very helpful and worked hard to make the trip a great one, including booking us a table last minute in Positano and walking us to it. Thanks for an amazing day!!
We used RomeInLimo from our pick up at the airport and immediately started our Day of Rome tour (all the city highlights) and we booked the Day trip from Rome to Pompeli and the Amalfi Coast. Peter was our driver and guide for the City Tour and driver for Pompeli & Amalfi Coast (he was amazing, provided much valuable information, and was friendly and professional). I worked with Jany from RomeInLimo while planning our trip and she provided great information (times to purchase our tickets to different attractions) she responded to emails timely and arranged for guides where needed. They do not purchase any tickets for you but can provide you links to purchase them (very easy). Would 100% recommend this company. Wish they were in other countries! Excellent and friendly.
We had the most amazing trip with Rome in Limo this past summer! There were 8 people in our group, of varying ages, and none of us had ever been to Italy before, so having a dedicated driver and guide throughout the trip made it stress-free. We got to see everything on our lists! We were picked up from the airport and taken to our hotel. The next morning, we were picked up by our amazing driver and tour guide, Nick. We had Nick for the next few days as he took us to Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, and Florence. We would recommend Nick to everyone! He was not only knowledgeable, but personable, spoke excellent English and went above and beyond to help us. One of the members of our group needed medical care and Nick helped translate with the ambulance drivers, as well as helped us navigate how the health system works there and even helped find rides to and from the hospital for us in the evenings. He knew so much history about Rome, Florence, Pompeii and the towns we passed on the way. It kept us entertained and we learned so much more than we would have if we had gone to the attractions on our own. Anyone taking tours with the company should ask for Nick. I would also suggest Rome in Limo for any group travelling in Italy. The planning was extremely easy, each day was smooth as we were picked up outside our front door each morning, driven in a comfortable, air-conditioned van to each attraction, and had pick up and drop off right in front! No parking and no waiting in lines! We got to see so much in just a few days, and we had the time of our life stress-free!
This is the most money I’ve ever spent on an excursion and it was WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! Don’t hesitate- book and give your family a stress free memorable experience. Pick up right at our hotel, coordinated with our guide in Pompeii and took us right to him. After our Pompeii tour our driver met us and escorted us back to the van where he took us on the most beautiful drive through Amalfi stopping at the most picturesque spots for photos along the way
Marco was a wonderful driver and a wealth of information. Cheery and personable. This was a great 13 hours and would it again in a heartbear!
We had an Amazing Day ! Rome in a Limo is great would definitly use them again. they also picked us up at the airport and took us to our ship !
Pietro was an excellent guide and driver that took very good care of us. Our guide inside the ruins of Pompeii was equally good. She was very knowledgeable and made sure that we saw the most important parts of that immense city. Positano was a delight as we sat seaside and enjoyed a delicious seafood lunch. A very memorable day made more special by the people who looked after us to make our vacation the best it could be.
This was an incredible private day trip with Peter, our driver and guide. Peter picked my sister and me up at our hotel in Rome, and we left for the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii. Throughout the tour, he pointed to breathtaking and exciting sites. Peter was a perfect gentleman. He held our interest by discussing Italian culture and the surrounding countryside. He even treated my sister and me to a lemon slush! Peter took the time to make reservations for us at a superb seaport restaurant. Our Pompeii tour guide, Elizabeth, was highly knowledgeable. Each of our questions was clearly answered. Peter and Elizabeth's personal touch made our trip more pleasurable than ever imagined. If you have a chance, take this tour. You'll love it!
Rome in Limo is the best excursion company in Europe. After using multiple companies and groups thoroughout Europe, they have the most seamless process, best customer service, best drivers and best expert guides. They offer a ticket concierge, Lucia, who booked everything for us and saved us from waiting hours in lines or missing sites. Italy was our favorite country on the trip and Rome in Limo facilitated that for my group of 6 with all private excursions from Pompei to Florence. We will use Rome in Limo when we return in 2 years. Livio was one of our favorite people to meet during the whole trip. Thank you so much!
Great communication on pickup, etc. Our driver was Mario and he was a great kid with lots of personality, very pleasant conversation in English. The Amalfi coast is a very scary road and he was an excellent driver. The only time I was scared is when some other driver did something stupid - usually crazy people on Vespas! We added the Bosco de' Medici Winery tour on our route and I am so glad we did, we loved it! It wasn’t very clear on Daytrip that the tour tickets were not included. I had to go to the winery’s website to book the tickets, so be aware of that if you add a tour along the way.
I cannot say enough good things about Daytrip. We used one of their drivers from the Rome airport to Positano, and then another from Positano to Calabria. Their drivers were polite, professional, and very well dressed; their English was excellent, and they were safe and skilled drivers. They drove clean, upscale newer cars (a Mercedes and a BMW) and helped us with our luggage, and translated for us at both stops. The trips were perfectly smooth, comfortable and very pleasant—which we frankly were not expecting bc we knew the trips would be long with likely heavy traffic. We enjoyed talking with both drivers as well, and each had a wealth of local knowledge they shared with us upon request. Highly recommend and would definitely use again!!
What a wonderful company! My guide Stephane was very knowledgeable and gave me insights on each and every stop along the way. I had the best time exploring Italy right in the comfort of my own car. Please do not hesitate to take advantage of this great company and I recommend them 10/10 for the best time on your future adventures as they are clearly the best in the business!
Our driver was great! We got a private ride from our hotel to Pompeii and Amalfi. Our guide, Piero, told us what was worth visiting in Pompeii since we had about 2 hours there. He didn’t come with us into the archeological site, so we were allowed to roam wherever we pleased. We got just the audio guides which we felt were enough. He knew basically everyone who worked in the areas we visited. The road to Positano was blocked due to construction, so Piero offered to take us to Amalfi instead, which was amazing. We thought we had ample amount of time to visit there, as well. We had a lot of independence to explore each place which was nice. Highly recommended!
Most amazing experience. The transportation was easy and picked us up at the hotel. The guide we had at Pompeii is one of the archeologists and found the horse preserved. He was knowledgeable, funny, polite and the sites were amazing. The coast is beautiful. I highly recommend.
Working with this company took what could have been a challenging day time wise and made it a delight! Our driver was timely, courteous, knowledgeable and an excellent driver! My husband, a professional drive was even able to nap on the way back to our hotel, something he never does!
We had an amazing whirlwind day from Rome to Pompeii and Positano. We were picked up right outside of our Airbnb in a comfy, cool van. Our driver was very friendly and patient with all of our questions about Italy and the countryside we were driving through. Romeinlimo arranged a guide for us at Pompeii, Lucio. He was so knowledgeable and made our experience there so much more meaningful. Next stop was Positano and a beautiful seaside lunch. Highly recommend this company, totally first class!!
We used RomeInLimo for transfers from Rome to Amalfi Coast, Amalfi Coast to Sorrento and Sorrento to Rome. Also, we did the Pompeii tour and Rome in a Day tour with them. ALL of it was fantastic. Very punctual, professional, friendly, lots of great information. HIGHLY recommend!!!
It was the best decision on our vacation! The trip was easy and friendly! The travel accommodations were superb. If you are looking to add to your Rome vacation, book this one!
Our family just took a wonderful day trip from Rome to Pompeii and Amaifi Coast with Rome in Limo. Our driver Luca picked us up at our hotel and provided us with a wonderful day of sightseeing and interesting facts about the area. He walked us to a very good restaurant on the coast for lunch and showed us areas that were good for sightseeing and shopping. At Pompeii Luca introduced us to our private guide Lucio who was amazing. Lucio was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We have two teens and they really enjoyed the day.
We could not be happier about our day trip with Rome in Limo to Pompeii and Positano in October 2019. Our driver, Enrico, picked us up promptly at our hotel at 7:30 a.m. and returned us to the hotel at 7:00 p.m. We spent a lot of time with Enrico, and he is a wonderful and engaging person. In Pompeii, we met our guide, Lucio, for a 3-hour private tour. He was able to work us thru the crowds and explain what we were seeing with detail and humor. We believe this day trip was well worth the expense. We wholeheartedly recommend both Enrico and Lucio.
I first used Rome in Limo in 2012 and found them flawless, and I was not even remotely disappointed this time. We had a day trip from Rome to Florence and another day trip from Rome to Pompeii and the Amalfi coast. I hate group tours. Having Enrico as our driver/guide for both days added immeasurably to our ability to navigate and understand not only the geography, history, and culture of the areas, but it provided the opportunity to exchange ideas with a real live citizen. At Pompeii, Luccio Vinaccia, our guide, gave us his more than 25 years of insight as a member of the archaeological society. On this, my third visit, I learned new things. I cannot recommend Rome in Limo highly enough. The safety, intelligence, and sophistication of their tours is worth every penny.
My family and I had a wonderful day with Big Luca! Thank you for giving us him for the day. We headed to Pompeii first. Next was climbing Mt. Vesuvius...the boys (16, 16, 18, and19) enjoyed the experience although it was difficult with the summer heat. Then, back to Rome. .
EVERYONE loved this excursion. The lunch was one of the best meals. Positano is postcard perfect. Pompeii was good and would have been better if we hired a guide; we used the headsets and they were not correctly programmed. Also, the driver was very nice. David
We had a great private driver to the Amalfi Coast. It was pure luxury and a beautiful drive. We ventured out on our own to have lunch (by the water), to shop, and see the sights. The stop in Pompeii allowed us to spend a few hours touring the ruins and was easy to get around. This day tour was one of the highlights on our trip -- highly recommend -- well worth the money.
