Colosseum & Ancient Rome Semi-private Tour

I am very disappointed how we were treated. There was a marathon in Rome. Numerous roads were closed but they still sold tickets for this tour. It was almost impossible to get a cab to reach the tour on time. We gave ourselves 2 hours and still got to the Colosseum. The tour guide could not wait. I am calling my credit card for a refund.

A really informative and insightful tour. It offered a great amount insight into the colosseum and surrounding area.

The meeting point was straight forward and our guide Alessio was already there, even though we arrived early. Alessio was very friendly and a fountain of knowledge regarding the Colosseum and surrounding area. We covered a couple of miles and there were steps involved, so not ideal for everybody. However, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Our guide was wonderful! She was very knowledgeable and shared the right amount of history. She even helped with the extreme heat.

Vincent was our tour guide and he was amazing. He was knowledgeable, energetic, engaging, and entertaining. We overheard other tour guides and they were different. I would definitely do the tour again with Vincent.

The guide did not have any signage and I got lucky and asked if she was a guide and what company she was with…then when we were waiting for others in the tour we had to recommend that she held up a sign saying what company she was with and she said she would go look for the other guests, as if she knew what they looked like. Once the tour began we quickly realized that the order of where we visited was misrepresented and we would go to the colosseum last which meant it would be very hot and we would have to limit our time at palatine hill and the forum. The guide seemed more concerned with stopping at water fountains than telling us any history or interesting points to what we were seeing…we spent most of the tour waiting in lines and going to water fountains. I wish we would have just gone on our own.

Excellent tour! Our guide Sarah was so sweet, extremely knowledgeable and detailed. She was very engaging and enthusiastic, seasoned at stopping for explanations, photos and shade(it was very hot)and also keeping pace so as to not run out of time and miss anything. This is a huge area with a lot of ground to cover, so helpful having a guide show and explain everything and help navigate the crowds. I really appreciated how the wonder of us seeing this amazing site for the first time was not lost on Sarah. Highly recommend!

Our guide was very nice, but not as knowledgable and as good at communicating as I had hoped. I think if I had it to do over again, I would get a fast pass ticket, and go through on our own, at our own speed. I believe we could’ve learned more by reading all the plaques available, and having more time. In fairness to our guide, we did have a couple that was a bit difficult and demanding, which also took away from the experience.

This tour was amazing! Our tour guide was Valentina. The breadth and depth of her knowledge about the Colosseum and the Palatine Hill area was amazing. I came into the tour really wanting to hear the history and not just take some pictures of the sites and Valentina blew me away. She gave really interesting information on her own, but when asked follow-up questions about the locations, she was able to answer and expand effortlessly. I can’t praise her highly enough. Our tour was semi-private so our group was small and the pace of the tour was perfect. We didn’t rush past anything but didn’t linger too long anywhere either. Being a small group, we also were able to pause somewhere if there was specific interest by someone in the group. Also, while this is a job for her, she seemed genuinely passionate about the whole area, and the colosseum in particular. Her genuine passion about the subject matter added to her credibility and presentation. She was great and provided exactly what I hoped for out of the tour.

This was a semi private tour with 6 people in our group. Alessio, our guide, was very knowledgeable. This small group setting was wonderful so we could learn and ask questions as he explained the history. We also booked a tour of the Vatican through viator which had 20 people, and this Colosseum tour we felt was a significantly better experience resulting from the smaller group. I would recommend this tour for the price. We also received a WhatsApp message the day prior with all of the pertinent information for the tour which eliminated the stress of locating the meeting point.

So worth the money! Guide was very knowledgeable and zipped us through unnecessary waits. When we did wait, or guide gave us informative talks.

I cannot recommend this enough. Our tour guide Vincenzo was excellent and really made history come alive. I wouldn’t have had the same experience on my own. The tour was well worth it.

Sara was AMAZING! She was very thorough, attentive and knowledgeable. She ensured we had ample time for pictures and answered every question. It helped that our tour was only the two of us but I have no doubt she would awesome with a group. At the end she recommended a wonderful restaurant for lunch which was amazing. Truly a skip the line tour! Attilio was our guide for a small group of only 4 adults. The Forum and Colosseum were unusually busy - even our guide was shocked since it was the end of October. We went to the Forum first, and there was no crowd, but when we left the line was easily 100 yards long! Heading into the Colosseum, Attilio took us to head head of the multiple lines and we got right through! He shared interesting facts and showed us unique sites at both the Forum and the Colusseum. The meeting point was easy to find with the directions we received the day before. Our guide Vincenzo, was amazing and really made this tour interactive and memorable. He was very knowledgeable and engaged with everyone in the group. We spent three hours on this walking tour of only 7 people which was so nice. In the group was my family of five plus a nice couple. I was really glad to have a small group instead of the very large groups that I saw around. The tickets were included and already purchased for us, which was nice as well. We started with Palantine hill, the forum then the Colosseum. Vincenzo was also helpful to take great family pics for us. Great tour overall. Thank you!

This tour was amazing! Sara was my favorite tour guide by far! She was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Rome and the Coliseum. Her enthusiasm made this tour so much more enjoyable. There was plenty of walking, and we dealt with extreme heat, but she made sure to try to stop in shaded areas as she explained everything in such great detail. I would recommend this tour, We got lucky and ended up with a private tour. She made sure we had the best views of Rome and great photo shots! Ask for Sara if it’s possible you will not be disappointed!

This is a very extensive tour that covers the Forum area as well as the Colosseum. There is a bit of climbing to get to the top of Palatine Hill. The views are spectacular and standing in the Colosseum is very moving.

Our guide was wonderful! Lots of explanations and history. The small group is the way to go as we could take our time for pictures.

I had the chance to explore Rome with an Ancient Rome Small Group Tour, and thanks to the beautiful weather and our marvellous guide, Sara, I really enjoyed the entire itinerary. She was an excellent speaker and extremely well-prepared. I especially liked her books with “then and now” pictures of many of the sites we visited. I truly appreciated that Sara didn’t want to overwhelm us. she was so thoughtful and caring, which made the whole tour even more enjoyable! Highly Recommended!

We booked a semi private tour and ended up having our own private tour! The instructions messaged to us the day before were very helpful for finding our guide. Our guide Sara was amazing. Can’t say enough good things about her; very knowledgeable and gave us the best views of the Colosseum and Forum. At the end she gave a wonderful lunch recommendation in the area as well. Overall it was very well organized and we recommend it to anyone.

The tour was amazing! As with all the tours we did, it was hard to find the guide to get started but worth it! Roberta was very knowledgeable and helpful. We were running a few minutes behind due to a late start (trouble finding her) so the Palatine Hill portion felt a little rushed. That was not her fault though! She definitely hit the high points and still let us stop for photos. Overall we loved this tour and will recommend to our friends. Just remember to leave yourself plenty of time to find the host. I’d say at least 30 minutes.

Sara was amazing!!!!! This trip and my impression to rome would be totally different without her and this tour. DO IT! The friend whom went with me had been to rome and it was a first time for me, for me, it was a wonderful experience because Sara knew all the good timing and places, spots to bring us, together with the history, stories told, she revived rome in my understanding. For my friend, she said it was like getting bonus bonus bonus from last visit because now you don’t only know a city by its look but also its soul! If you’re considering whether to book this trip or not, just do it!!!

Rain in March in Rome will not surprise anyone, but you can be upset ... if you are not with the guide Sarah in the Colosseum 🤗 I was on the excursion with my 9-year-old daughter, who was also very interested in the facts and secrets of history told by Sarah. A professional, erudite guide Sarah with a lot of valuable information, which generally changed my attitude to my life at that moment. No wonder they say that all roads lead to Rome)
