Castelli Romani Private Day Tour From Rome

My husband and I hired Best Rome Driver for a private drive to Castel Gandolfo where we toured the Pope's summer residence and gardens, Ristorante Pagnanelli where we had a wine tasting and lunch at a table overlooking the lake, and Nemi. Prior to our trip, Best Rome Driver was very helpful in tailoring our itinerary. Our driver, Beatrice, was lovely and very knowledgeable about Rome and surrounding areas. Her passion for Italy really shines and she was a delight to spend the day with!

This was an excellent trip outside of Rome and the scenery was spectacular. From the beginning to the end it was a wonderful day. The driver was courteous and professional. Lunch was terrific and the views were stunning.

Our driver Giuliano was excellent. It was the perfect get away for the day from Rome. So scenic and beautiful.

Peter was the best driver and tour guide on an incredible tour visiting outside of Rome! We went to a strawberry town called Nemi, went inside a gorgeous castle, enjoyed wine and lunch over looking lake Albano, discovered over 35,000 bottles of wine in the restaurant cellar, walked the grounds at the Pope’s summer cottage, and found a local leather shop in a small town Frascati. I highly recommend this tour and Peter for anyone looking for a perfect day!

We were blown away at visiting the Castelli Romani. All the sites we were taken to, were beautiful, historical and memorable. Our driver Stefano, spoke English and was very happy to give us an explanation of the sites, gave us ample time to wonder around and take photos, even have lunch in an exquisite restaurant with the most beautiful scenery overlooking a volcanic lake - spectacular.

Our guide Beatrice was incredibly knowledgeable and provided a service that exceeded our expectations. We booked at the last minute and couldn’t believe how fortunate we were to have a local Roman who immersed us in the history and culture of the region. Thank you Beatrice for making our Roman experience so rich and authentic. We will be back again. Highly recommend!

Alex Paolini drove us from Rome to Castelli Romani. He was professional, prompt, warm and friendly. He was also an excellent driver. He selected an wonderful place for us to have lunch overlooking the lake. It was a great break from the hustle and bustle of Rome and was a really fun day!

Had a two-hour late evening / night driving tour of Rome. Driver Peter was VERY informative and took us to excellent spot for photography. On the way, he suggested other things to see and do. Highly informative and enjoyable!

We had a great tour with our driver, Alex Paolini! Definitely worth the time! When you visit Castel Gondollfo, make sure to take the optional tour of the observatory. There are a lot of steps, but you can ask to take an elevator for a portion of the climb if needed.

We were in Rome to celebrate my mother’s birthday and this tour to the Roman castles was our last planned activity. What a way to end our visit to Rome!!! Our driver was Beatrice and she was an absolute gem. Courteous and a wealth of knowledge from Her background as an archeologist. My mother had a recent foot injury and Beatrice made sure that she wasn’t over exerted but we still were able to see all the beautiful sites. Our family group of 7 had a lovely time today with Alex as our guide. He communicated very well leading up to departure and arrived exactly on-time to our accomodations. He was extremely personable for the duration of our day, answering our questions, telling stories, and giving us information about our stops. The stops were all great. It was very nice to get out of the hustle and bustle of Rome. I would recommend this day trip to those wanting to see what lies outside the city center. You won't be disappointed.

o Picked up in a large Mercedes van that had seen its best days ages ago. Rattles galore and used shocks. Still … we were the only ones on the van so had lots of conversation with the driver. o It started in a beautiful small church that had a wedding that morning. Great pictures. o The second stop was in Frascati where we enjoyed a pastry before entering the summer home of the Pope. Once again, lots of stairs and climbing. I passed on the garden to avoid the steep walk. My wife says being fall, there wasn’t much to see anyway. The pictures in the house were great. o Ended in Nemi which is located in a dead volcano and is all about strawberries. We sat in a lakeside restaurant and had the biggest pizza I have ever seen. Paper thin. Instead of using a knife, we were supplied with scissors to cut our slices from the huge pie. Interesting and fun … and delicious!

Tour coordinator Giulia was very kind to inform us days in advance of our visit that the fountains at the site we were going to be visiting were not be working due to maintenance. With this advanced notice, we were able to reschedule a magnificent day tour of various lakes in the Rome countryside including a stop to Pope Leo’s summer villa plus a fantastic lunch that our driver Paolo arranged for us after contacting us ahead of time explaining that many of the local restaurants would be booked prior to our arrival. Fabulous customer service, friendly and safe driving made our day memorable! Grateful!

Our group of 6 had the greatest time exploring the Rome countryside, shopping, and sampling the local food and wine. Fantastic lunch with a great view. Giuliano showed us so much, was fun, and a wealth of knowledge. Highly recommend this trip!

A private tour is such a luxury. You tour at your own pace. It is fully customizable. Your time is so important you must use it wisely when traveling. Booking was easy. Tour operator communicated well giving us the phone number of our driver. Stefano was an excellent driver and gave us information about the sites. It was great to get away from the crowds in Rome. I especially enjoyed the Porchetta sandwich and touring Castel Gandolfo

If you like to take a short break from Rome, suggest you take this trip and enjoy the short but quiet visits to Fascati and the towns around Lake Albano and Nemi. Our family of five just finished a wonderful day trip with Alex Paolini. He took us to the most beautiful towns, we had more than enough time to walk around, sightsee and shop! Had lunch at a wonderful restaurant overlooking the lake. Everything was organized and went smoothly. Thank you Alex we all had a great day!

We had a very nice time visiting the sites. The best of the tour was our tour guide Peter. He did a wonderful job taking us to secret little spots and the got us in to the best restaurant which was overlooking the Castelli Gandolfo lake. Called the Pagnanelli restaurant and wonderful food.

Peter was prompt and efficient. He was knowledgeable of tourist spots as well as locals-only spots . We recommended him to the other people at our hotel. We will come back to see him. By the way, his english is fluent and easy to understand

Paolo our guide was TOP NOTCH!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Paolo! He was professional , knowledgeable , and interesting to be with for this multi town tour. It was nice to see the smaller towns and the meal in Castel Gandolfi was incredible . The Strawberry Spritz in Nime is a must try! Viewing the popes summer home/ now museum was an unexpected plus for my family .

This tour was so much fun! Our driver Alex arranged a lovely lunch. The view from the restaurant was beautiful as was the food. We had a tour of the wine cellar too. We went to Nemi wear we tasted everything strawberry. It was a great day.

Paolo showed us an amazing day outside the city center of Rome. He was flexible with the start time and remained flexible throughout the day. He was a pleasure to spend the day with, as we discussed all different topics about Rome, culture, sports, etc. The cities we visited were stunning and the views were exceptional. Well worth money.

We had a wonderful time on this tour, and would recommend it highly - a real change of pace from the crowds and urban environment of central Rome. Guiliano was an excellent guide - informative, patient, and accommodating. He adjusted the itinerary and schedule to allow for a visit to the Papal Palace in Castel Gandolfo and extra time spent over lunch at the excellent and scenic restaurant that he recommended.

Giuliano was extremely knowledgeable of the several towns we visited. He a wealth of knowledge of the places and history of each. He was helpful and attentive for the entire trip.

The most bang for your buck. Our driver, Claudio, was knowledgeable and smart and importantly, was a great driver. He was patient and allowed us all the flexibility we needed at different stops and allowed us to make the decisions about where and when we go. He even helped us plan a trip to Florence the next day and suggested walking tour spots for us. It was so hopeful and we would absolutely recommend this trip!

Great sights to see with little tourists around. In this day and age where Rome is constantly packed with people, it's wonderful to be able to leave the crowded city for beautiful and serene lake view and good food

Four lady friends spent our last full day in Rome together with very friendly driver Giuliano. He took us in a classy, roomy and comfortable vehicle to Frascati, a historic Abbey,Nemi, and Castel Gondolfo. These areas frame the beautiful Lake Albano. The day started with a pickup location in Trastevere where we were staying. On the way out of Rome Giuliano spoke to us about sights and history all along the way. In Frascati we had time to walk the little town and find Cappuccino’s at a cute cafe. He then took us to the Monastery of Santa Maria di Grottaferrata. A monastery from the 10th century. Inside the chapel it was amazingly beautiful. Afterwards we drove to the picturesque town of Nemi, famous for its wild strawberries. We enjoyed sampling strawberry liquor, pastries, and delicious wine all while overlooking Lake Albano. Then he took us to the Castel Gondolfo side of the lake where we spent two lovely hours at Restaurant Pagnanelli. We had a tour of their impressive 35,000 bottle wine cellar complete with all things antique and vintage wine pieces. Then a delicious lunch and local red wine on their terrace overlooking the lake. On the way back to Rome we requested to stop near the Colosseum to take a few photos and he was happy to oblige. It was the perfect way to end our incredible Mediterranean vacation. Our driver Alex was fantástic! Near of Rome. Beautifull places, lunch with an amazing VIEW! The walking was very easy… Good for sêniors and family, but IT’S also a good trip to famílias.

Breathtaking views with the driver Alex Pailin. He was kind, knowledgeable and relatable. Wouldn’t have done this by myself. Stress free and care free. Loved the lunch , the views and the villages. All quaint and desirable.

This tour was one of the best things we did during our three weeks in Italy. Our driver was absolutely fantastic, so knowledgeable and helpful and kind. The entire day felt special and we saw amazing things that we would not have been able to see otherwise. Visiting the little villages and seeing all the beautiful sites was amazing.
