Castle Gandalfo is beautiful and full of Histoy! A easy drive from Rome airport. This was our first on a two-week vacation. Be sure to add the observatory tour and the secret gardens. Beautiful views, great Catholic Church History and world war II history. Highly recommended
It’s worth the drive to Castelli Romano. Our visit was easy and very interesting. The grounds are gorgeous and the town square was welcoming with a view of the lake.
This tour greatly exceeded our expectations. I booked this to fill some time on our way from Rome to Naples. We were blow away by the beauty of the papal building and the stunning views. There is a large amount of history and we were very happy we stopped. The only downside was when my tickets were sent the day before they told me our entry time moved up 30 minutes. When I told them that was going to make things very tight and we might have to cancel because we were touring the Vatican that morning the tour operator stopped responding. That is the only reason this wasn’t 5 stars. I wouldn’t book with them again for that reason but absolutely spend time visiting here.
Very interesting self-guided tour. And the small town itself is lovely and a short train ride from Rome. Well worth the visit.
Castel Gandolfo is the summer residence of the popes since many years. It has beautiful gardens and easily reachable by train from Roma Termini
I loved this self-paced tour of Castel Gandolfo and the Papal Palace. It was so historical and fun. I learned a lot about the popes as well as the astronomical tower/telescope.
This is a very beautiful place in a spectacular landscape. The palace is full of amazing art and historical pieces. It is mostly silent which lends to the feeling like you must whisper. The guards outside were very friendly and helpful to my mother who walks with a cane and gave her a ride in the golf cart to the secret garden.
Excellent service from start to finish. Andrea knew so much of the history and explained it in a way that wasn't like sitting in a classroom but came alive. His choices of locations to visit were the "best of the best"! He was also extremely flexible! It simply couldn't have been better.
Very peaceful and very clean. Good for family and friends. Highly recommended to others. We will be back
Something different to do around Rome. Catching the train to Castel Gandolfo, walking up to the Papal Apartments (steep), the tour round the apartments where all the staff were more than helpful and the beautiful setting for lunch in one of the local restaurants made this a really enjoyable day out. On a May weekday the place was empty and I would recommend the visit for a break from the hustle of Rome.
What a nice way to spend part of a day. We took the train from Rome ( trains leave about once an hour) and really enjoyed spending a quieter day seeing a beautiful site. We visited both the Papal Apartments and Garden ( these gardens are lovely but not too big) and we took the separate tour of the Barbarini Gardens which were large and beautiful. The two sites are very close to each other in this small town but they are two separate tickets. Make sure to get your return tickets ordered before going to Castel Gadolfo since there is no one selling tickets there. You can buy on line but take in to consideration that cell service might not be good. The train tickets from Rome were very reasonable - something like 4 Euros each.
Although we had to make our own travel arrangements from Rome to Castel Gandolfo, the train ride was interesting. On arrival, we took the shuttle, which brought us directly to the entrance. The Papal apartments are quite interesting and historical, specially for believers. Unfortunately, we had rain and couldn't visit the gardens, which were not included and also the entrance price was quite high. The driver of the shuttle coming back was so kind and gave us a tour of the town and its particular residents.
I not miss the tour, only because I think that tour in Vatican in Rome. I have tour in St Peter from 9:AM to 11:30 AM and tour Vatican museum from 4:30 pm. I explain to Viator that this tour far from Rome. I cannot make it and request refund. Because I booked many other tours from Viator. But Viator denied. That not fair.
Your tickets were more expensive for no apparent reason. There were no lines since it’s such a huge venue and gate price was $18.
A very interesting tour of the Papal summer home and gardens in Castel Gandolfo. We had a delightful tour guide and driver, Sebastiano, who picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel at the airport. There were beautiful views of Lake Albano and Nemi and the Appian Way during our day trip. We had a wonderful lunch at Arte E Vino steps from the Pope's summer home in town. An overall delightful day trip.
The garden and they apartment was amazing and the audio commentary was fair The directions from Viator on how and where to redeem the ticket was totally inept We had to ask several people on how to access the tor ticket
Spurious address given to meet up with guide. Nobody showed. Had to straighten out with pontifical office on our own #-$@((&
Very much enjoyed the palace you. The walking tour too long because we had to go as a large group. We kept stopping and waiting for others to catch up. Do the guided tour on the shuttle.
nothing special. we enjoyed the garden... but you could not walk in it... its in a small bus. villa was all filled with popes pictures and their stories.
We had visited the gardens before although today we had the walking tour which was much more magical! You have time to appreciate this amazing garden!!
I was very annoyed. I paid €24 for my ticket and still had to stand in line at the counter with other visitors who did not have a ticket yet to exchange my ticket. On-site, the entrance only costs half, so I paid €12 for NOTHING!!! I will definitely never book anything through Tripadvisor again! The garden is absolutely not worth seeing, and I expected more from the palace as well.
Pontifical Palace in the heart of the Castelli Romani, the views of the landscape from the garden and windows are indescribable. The palace museum beautiful but nothing exceptional. I recommend going there in broad daylight to enjoy the view of the ponorama.
The indications were not very clear during the visits. What directions? what time allocated for the visit? Customer Service is not up to the task of guiding us
Beautiful visit to the Papal Palace and Secret Garden. We stayed there with my husband recently, 12 euros ticket really well spent. The place is elegant, not overly opulent nor overly lavish. The garden is well-kept and rich in plants and greenery. We were both 100% satisfied with it. Beautiful then the view that you can admire all around.
I recommend I recommend I recommend Nice experience at Roman castles Agency is very prepared and specialized in these tours
Visit to the papal villas with attached gardens. Hidden area in Castel Gandolfo, the place where the Pope spends his holidays. Realistic rooms well frescoed and with tapestries.
I didn't get the tickets in time! TripAdvisor's service was not there! I am disappointed by TripAdvisor
Papal summer residence overlooking the village and the lake in which the landscape is reflected. Interesting the specola with astrophysical telescope of the 30s, but still working and the walk to the station in the middle of the Mediterranean scrub with the borage in bloom. The village deserves, the overall visit a day from Rome
We visited both the outdoor area and the indoor apartments. The history that accompanies the interior apartments is the result of much, much love, especially as regards the welcome made during the bombings of the Second World War. The first part really touches your soul. A visit to the quarters of the popes, on the other hand, allows you to reconstruct the beauty and history of the Roman curia up to the present day. A real treat for the eyes. Thanks to the guide Valentina Puglia for her skill and her fascinating and engaging explanations.
Sightseeing tour as expected. Very nice view of Rome. Affordable accessibility, nothing challenging even with slight motor problems.
Beautiful whole structure. The cost of the ticket is definitely worth the expense. What most pleasantly surprised us was the kindness and thoughtfulness of the staff. A journey into history not to be missed. Highly recommended a visit to the gardens with audio guide.
Sentirsi partecipi di storia, attraversare i secoli immersi nella cultura. Una esperienza da ripetere
Beautiful and interesting, excellent Stuarts and the fact that it was open to the public is extraordinary thanks to Pope Francis!!
il posto è bello : trovo eccessive le spese di commissione se avessi acquistato direttamente in loco avrei pagato 48,00 euro contro 88,00
Beautiful, well organized, shame that with the tour with the van (which lasts an hour) is never planned to get off to take better photos.
È stata una giornata speciale, visitare Castel Gandolfo è stato molto interessante tornare indietro nel tempo, bellissima la passeggiata nei giardini, da consigliare a tutti
Very beautiful. The walk is neither long nor demanding, but the person who must check the possibilities of the members of the group to avoid being left too far behind. Very beautiful
We spent a very nice day in Castel Gandolfo. We walked in the Pope’s gardens with a Vatican guard. We will definitely come back during our next visit to Italy and Rome, experience recommended in the summer! I recommend booking the option with extra for the picnic basket, it is definitely worth relaxing in the gardens with some snacks
Great Service from Touristation, we were really pleased with the Pontifical Villas, the gardens are spectacular! I would definitely recommend
Excellent organization of the staff who followed us throughout the journey and for every move, maximum punctuality and attention to the customer. To choose!
