Itinerary
Your experience begins at Piazza Barberini, in the center of Rome near Barberini metro station (Line A). Meet the welcome staff in front of the Fontana del Tritone at your scheduled time to exchange your voucher, or head straight to the crypt entrance with the tickets emailed to you in advance.
Enter the quiet Capuchin complex beneath this 17th-century church, home to the friars for centuries. With your ticket scanned and audio guide in hand, learn about the Capuchin order, their long history in Rome, and why these underground chapels were created.
Continue through the museum spaces, where displays explain the friars' humble traditions and daily life. This background makes the crypts below far more meaningful for first-time visitors.
Descend into the first bone-decorated chapels, where skulls and vertebrae form arches, patterns, and simple symbols. As you move along the narrow corridor, the audio guide explains how these arrangements connect to themes of faith, humility, and mortality. Further inside, you reach the most elaborate space of all, where chandeliers, altars, and wall designs are shaped entirely from friars' bones. Take your time in the Crypt of the Skulls and the Crypt of the Pelvises before following the route back to the exit.

Fiona was great. Really enjoyed the tour.
Good experience, Fiana was great
The crypt was a fascinating experience. Awe inspiring and so much information provided about friar life. The tour is nice because you can do at your own pace. Please remember to wear appropriate clothing out of respect. “The Tour Guy” that is the host and provides the tickets is a farce. I never received the tickets digitally. I contacted him more than 5 times the morning of our scheduled tour and got no response. We decided to go to the orientation spot and wait for him. He never showed up there. After waiting 35 minutes, we decided to go to the Crypt. I explained our situation to the curator there, he called The Tour Guy, and the tickets were then sent to HIS email and we were finally allowed to take our tour. I got the impression from the curator, that this wasn’t the first time this problem has occurred with The Tour Guy. Viator needs to find a different host for this tour. Secure your tickets from some other place. We had other things we wanted to do that day, but wasted our time waiting for tickets from this yahoo.
Thank you Silvia for a great tour
The experience itself was great, but you didn't need Viator to do this. Just go directly to the Capuchin Crypt's website. They have more than enough tickets. This was an unnecessary middle-man that didn't need to exist whatsoever.
Our Guide, Sylvia, was excellent! She was so knowledgeable and friendly, and made the best out of an unusual transportation hiccup. We especially loved all of the local recommendations she gave us after the tour. Thank you Sylvia for giving us a tour that we will remember forever!
David was fantastic. Besides the tour used drive to to point out sites and give recommendations. Made the tour very personable. Highly recommend!
We had a very informative guide Federica. We got to learn about the Capuchin Monks and their history which was fascinating. I recommend this tour. It is very complimentary to our visit to the Vatican.
Interesting and quiet tour not physically stressful. We enjoyed it as a relaxing tour as part of our Rome visit. Not real time consuming but something interesting to do without taking away from some of the other things we wanted to do. Our provider was the tour guy true viator. The tour guy sent the tickets as promised and updated us on several things as to timed entry not being required to go at any time which was helpful. He also notified us on email, text, and what's up to make sure that we had received them and responded on WhatsApp quickly to a question that I had.
The audio guide is amazing. The museum and crypts are so interesting. My only issue is when the line to enter is very long, it wasn't clear early on that pre-booked tickets had their own entrance (a sign at the bottom of the stairs would have helped).
Well worth a visit, would recommend to anyone visiting Rome.
David was an excellent guide.
Arvin was an excellent guide...knowledge and personality was outstanding!
The crypt was amazing with very insight full audio guide. Super close to the Barberini metro stop. Had a little snafu with the tickets that never arrived and took about 30 minutes to rectify at the entrance but overakl a great experience! Well worth it!!
Great tour and the teenagers loved it. Very interesting and informative.
Do not book with this company unless you want to go on a wild goose hunt for the “tour guide” that never existed. My family and I stood and searched for this mysterious tour guide for 45 minutes. Viator gave us directions to this random cinema near the museum where we had to meet the “tour guide” which again never existed. When I tried calling the company and the supposed tour guide I was left on hold for 10 minutes for them to end up hanging up on me. We finally decided to just head to the actual museum itself and the staff there weren’t friendly at all when we voiced our concern about the confusiones with the “tour guide” they blamed us for not calling when we did. TERRIBLE INSTRUCTIONS!!!!
Liked the self tour through with headphones. Easy to go at your own pace. A little confusing with meeting place but once I reread I saw as long as you have your voucher, go directly to the place. Do not wait in line. Walk to the front with your timed ticket.
I thought we had a guide and didn’t realize that it was just the regular self guided tour offered through the museum. That being said, I was impressed with the museum itself and would recommend a visit.
Was given a fake ticket by the tour company. Be weary that it could be a scam luckkly the guy on the desk sorted it for us
David was helpful and fun to listen to for our tour.
Good, i do not know the admission fee visit was a couple hours
Arvin was a fantastic guide, full of knowledge and made the tour fun and educational.
If you have respect for the Franciscans (Capuchins) and respect for the religious like, then go. It’s a beautiful and weird display of the human condition. But if you’re just into the gore, don’t go. This is a sacred place.
A phenomenal experience. The tour guide was a true host. Highly recommend.
We thought this was a terrible experience. It was difficult to find, but that was mostly our fault. Skip the line tickets helped as there was a long regular line. Evidently shoulders have to be covered and they sell you something for 1 Euro. LOT of people in a small corridor to look at exhibits from friars of the past. Evidently no air conditioning in that building. I have a ten year old and they neglected to give her the kid audio version so she could listen to the items marke kids. The bones were cool but it was a small exhibit at the end of the tour
This was very interesting. Seeing the munks skeletons in beautiful poses and the designs created from them.
The most unique place I have ever visited. Truly indescribable but absolutely must visit. You need something to cover your shoulders just to pre-warn you!
Probably our biggest surprise in Rome. Went from "let's go see a strange bunch of bones" to a fascinating education into the a religious order under the authority of Francis of Assisi. The audio self-guided tour was perfectly written to help you to not go racing to the bones, but just stop and take a few moments to get some background. Clever, and it worked. The bones gained meaning and were no longer bones but a celebration of life, as was intended by the order. The painting "Saint Francis in meditation", by Caravaggio, is also on display.
Highly recommend! The museum was a bit boring but the actual crypts were amazing. This is such a hidden gem! The tour operator made it very easy with the skip the line tickets.
Fiona was an amazing guide with a lot of knowledge about the tour and surrounding areas. Tour took us to amazing places to see
Arvin was a very welcoming and pleasant chap and really informative friendly made you feel comfortable straight away and was very helpful and amazing guy and the tour company should be ecstatic that they have him working for them. 100 stars.
We will told to meet the guide to pick up our self guided headsets but we could have gone straight to the museum and just walked in.
Arvin was amazing and told us a lot of very interesting facts along the drive. Loved it!
Wonderful time with Arvin our tour guide!
This was a very interesting trip. Our guide was very informative and friendly. I liked that we went to two different sites. The first museum was interesting but as it got more crowded with other visitors it was hard to see what we wanted of the relics before we had to leave for the crypts.
Amazing. Serene calm , interesting. Highly recommended . Worth it and fun and educational. Staff were helpful. Souvenirs were affordable and they have nice selections.
Fiona was super knowledgeable and fun. She helped us with local knowledge including a fantastic spot for lunch!
Fiona was a great guide very friendly and lively
An interesting experience. The audio guide was really good and explained why the Ossary was made.
Worth getting tickets ahead of time to bypass the line. Dress to cover shoulders and knees. Self guided with headsets and this was great to let you go at your own pace
David was a great tour guide and provided lots of history about the places we toured and the places we drove past. He also gave great suggestions for food and other places to tour.
David was an excellent tour guide! He made the experience fun and was very informative.
Our guide, Davide, was very knowledgeable and helpful during the tours and transportation between the two. Definitely would recommend him.
David amazing guy, he was a really good a patient guide. Thks
Fiona made the trip. Full of knowledge and seamlessly kept 18 folks in line. Greatly exceeded our expectations.
David was one of a kind! So informative and entertaining! Would highly recommend!
Go and speak to the tour guide regardless of whether you have booked a tour or not - she was very reassuring. Whole thing really fascinating - so pleased we went.
Fiona did an excellent job. She was very informative
The Crypt itself was nice. Just wish I would not have booked through Viator. Lots of confusing information provided regarding tickets. One email says download tickets here, then you download and the download says this is not a ticket. Then on the Viator App it states you must meet the tour operator and receive a ticket before going to the Crypt. We went to the location 20 minutes early and waited 20 minutes after the meet time and they did not show up. Had to call Viator and spent 20 minutes on the phone trying to get our tickets to get in. Which we did. Then come to find out a ticket at the Crypt is about 6 Euros compared to the 17 Euros we paid through Viator. Terrible experience.
