Beautiful countryside and towns. Lunch was typical Italian and very good! Lots of walking (13,000 steps) and rest periods provided. Orvieto has the most beautiful church in Italy! Well worth the money and the time!
Overall very good day trip from Rome. Bagnoregio and Orvieto are both beautiful towns, well worth visiting. If you have limited time and you’re based in Rome, I would recommend this trip.
From the very start, Joseph made our day trip a delight. He was friendly, funny, and professional, and he shared so much fascinating history along the way. Tours like this one are why I book a guided tour everywhere I go!
First of all, we loved our tour guide, Barbara, and bus driver, Antonio. If we could rate them with “stars” we’d give each of them 5 stars. However, the bus was quite uncomfortable, with very, very little leg room. My wife is 5’7” and her knees touched the back of the seat in front of us, and I’m 6’4”, so the very little leg room made the seating situation impossible. We did make stops along the way where restrooms were available, but just FYI, there is no toilet on the bus. About the trip itself, we thought it was longer than necessary. This was mostly due to the 1 hour and 45 minute trip each way (yes, both to and from) the vineyard. In our 4 trips to Italy we’ve been on several vineyard tours with lunch and wine, but at this vineyard there was very little information shared about the workings of the vineyard, their storage of the vine, and although it was a beautiful day there was no actual outside “vineyard” tour by the owners. At the lunch it was challenging to hear anything said by the owners - even with the microphone - because of the 3 other large tour groups there at the same time. Although there was plenty of room for tables in the room, the tables and chairs were set very close together and made it difficult to be served our food and wine. There was a lot of reaching over us to serve our table-mates on the other side of the table. This made us feel uncomfortable, and my wife actually had to get up in order for the guy to serve the other side from the two large platters of food he was struggling to keep ahold of. The wine was fine but they served us very small amounts, which meant we had to keep asking for more in order to have enough to have with our meal. This proved to be challenging, due to the sheer number of people in the 4 large groups they were trying to serve. And, as one would expect, the restaurant was open for business at that time, which made it even harder to get served. And we would rate the food as mediocre, at best. The pasta was fine, but the tomato sauce served on it had little flavor. By the time we were finished with our meal, there was just enough time to buy their products, if we wanted, and use the wash room. Then we were back in the uncomfortable motor bus for another hour and 45 minutes. We would have preferred to be taken to a closer, less retail-focused vineyard. We loved visiting Civita di Bagnoregio and Orvieto, but would have enjoyed spending less time riding in the bus to get to and from the vineyard restaurant and more time exploring Orvieto (only had an hour). If we could do it over again - and still spend 12 hours of our Rome holiday doing something - we would choose to go with a different tour group.
It was a wonderful tour , Barbara de guide was very knowledgeable and kind and by far the best tour guide i ever encountered and I travel a lot. The places we visited as all Italian towns it never disappoints, espectacular views, delicious food and amazing history.
We were not sure what to expect but the quality and comfort were obvious from the check-in point. Well organized even with multiple tours originating at the same time. The coach was clean and comfortable. Sara and Rico (guide and driver respectively) were wonderful. Rico kept us safe and on time even through sporadic rain storms. Sara was easy to understand and did a great job giving us background and context for what we were seeing and doing. She kept us all organized while giving sufficient time to wander. We loved this tour and highly, highly recommend it. It makes me willing to schedule another City Wonders tour in the future.
Tour guide was great! The 2 cities we visited were amazing. The problem was the lunch stop. It was loud, we sat down to food already on plates and wine already in glasses. No explanation as to what we were eating, what wine we were drinking, Nothing. It also took way too much time to be over. We have been to many wine tastings, I still have no idea what 3 wines we were given. The lady with the microphone was very loud and pretty rude in my opinion. I would highly recommend the 2 cities, just not paired with the lunch stop.
We had a great time during the tour. Our tour guide Joseph had lots of great details that made the trip enjoyable. This is a must, we highly recommend it.
NOT a fully guided tour. We had an escort, John, who contextualized the sights for us and made sure we all got back on the bus, but most of the tour was free time to explore. To his credit, John was knowledgeable and easy to understand. He also approached each of us at the end to see if we had any lingering questions, which was very thoughtful. Of course, the itinerary is ambitious. You'll wish you had more time in each spot. Along the way, we stopped at a truffle (the fungus kind) shop, where we sampled lots of yummy oils, cheeses, and chocolates. And of course, we went to Tuscany for lunch. There were bruschetta, local salami, and bread as appetizers and pasta marinara (homemade) as the main course. All were delicious. Many said they liked the wines, but I found the two reds we were served to be overly dry and oxidized. I don't think either of those are traditional traits of Tuscan wines. But dessert was the sweet Vino Santo poured over biscotti, and that was a real treat. The ancient cities we visited speak for themselves. Incredible vistas. LOTS of walking and climbing. Definitely recommend!
Absolutely incredible experience from beginning to end!! So happy we booked for our first time in Italy. Worth every penny. John, our tour guide, was fantastic. You get to have your own time in each place without feeling rushed. Orvieto is so quaint with a beautiful church, the winery in Montepulciano was gorgeous and fun, and the ending in Bagnoregio was unforgettable. All the views are breath taking- book now!
This day trip is very unique with some amazing locations. John is a great guide who is very knowledgeable and helpful. They winery was beautiful however we felt the food was just okay. The family that runs it are very warm and friendly. Bagnoregio was absolutely incredible but fair warning: This is up a trek up a very steep road, doable by most but may be difficult if you have limited mobility. We left Rome at 7am and arrived back around 7pm. Overall a great experience!
Fantastic itinerary visiting 3 regions of Italy as a great escape from Rome for a day and Civita Bagnoregno incredible.
This was a great tour. I was a little worried after reading some negative reviews but actually it was good. It was a large group dining but the room was still nice not like a canteen and we were offered multiple top ups of the wine, cheese and meats if we wanted it. The shop stop was ok. There were lots of free samples and no hard sell. The prices were very expensive in the shop. Ironically the exact same truffle products were much cheaper in the dying city in one of the cafes than there were in the factory. The guide was friendly and made a good effort. I would not be put off by the bad reviews. Top tip go to the loo in Macdonalds opposite the meeting point in the morning or else you will be waiting a long time. It is 1 euro to use the loo in Macdonalds.
Our guide, Chiara, was absolutely wonderful! So knowledgeable and friendly. She was kind and thoughtful and shared useful information making the whole day a wonderful experience. We would definitely use this tour Company again.
If you get motion sickness, the drive involves many curves. We did have one lady have problems with that. Otherwise, the trip was great. Our guide, Laura, was very informative and helpful. Wear comfortable shoes, because there will be plenty of walking! Overall, highly recommend!
It is a very refreshing experience. Like very much the old Orvieto, Toscana lunch experience and Chivita.
This tour will be one of the most memorable of this trip. Definitely worth the price of admission. It was a long day but three different regions were covered so it was necessary. The landscape and landmarks were stunning. Especially the Duomo in Orvieto. Our group was on the smaller size we’ve ever had at around 25 so our terrific guide Laura was able to be very attentive and informative. Lunch and wine tasting were delicious as was the aperitivo beforehand. We also had opportunities to shop from local merchants. I can’t end this review without giving special mention to our driver Marco who drove us around all day even when we were all passed out from the meal and the day’s activities. Thank you for an unforgettable experience Laura and Marco!
Wonderful trip to places not many go to but should. Our guide Chiara was very informative and helpful with lots of extra information. Giovanni our driver brought us back safe! Only recommendation is to have a little more time in Orvieto. Highly recommended!
Long steep hill at the end of the tour. The first town nice and last town a little too much. But the middle farmhouse and lunch was excellent.
I really wanted to see Bagnoregio the old town on a hill so I joined this trip and in doing so I also got to see Orvieto also a pretty city with its wonderful Church a must see. We visited an interesting winery and had a nice lunch. Our guide Francesca was great as was our driver Francesco.
Excellent sites to visit. Travel guide was personable, knowledgeable and excellent. I would definitely highly recommend
A wonderful day exploring Umbria and Tuscany! I especially loved Civita di Bagnoregio and the lovely lunch in Tuscany. Our guide, Pari, was elegant, kind and very professional, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!
Pari was an excellent tour guide!!! And the driver did an excellent job as well!!
Antonino the tour guide and the driver Gianni were fantastic hosts for the full day trip to Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio. The places were fantastic and beautiful. What made the tour even better was the experience we had with Antonino who had great Roman knowledge and interesting historical information about the places. Well organised and punctual! Antonino also threw in tips at the end for local Italian restaurant ideas and self-guided tours that many tourists wouldn’t know!
It was excellent. Our driver, Antonio, and our guide Valentina were fantastic. Valentina gave us very useful information both about the cities we were visiting and the city of Rome where we started from. She was very clear in her communication and has a lot of passion and love for her country. I appreciate that we had free time in all the cities and a very enjoyable lunch. I wish there was more time in Orvieto, but I understand that the agenda needed to fit in a reasonable timeframe and 12 hours is already quite a bit of time. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone, but would caution that it was a lot of walking which to me is typical for time spent in Italy, so this is not a detraction but rather just for awareness.
The visit to the 2 villages was great. There was a stop at a small convenient store. The prices were not cheaper as the guide said. Found the some of the same items cheaper elsewhere. It was a very strange stop- bus load of people for the store to make money off. The stop for lunch was also a sales pitch. Beautiful view and good food. Couldn’t hear their sales pitch to buy their products. They had put so many tour group into a room and we couldn’t hear anything- so we wouldn’t know which wine to buy even if we wanted.
We went with an amazing group with city of wonders and Biviana was our tour guide as she was amazing throughout the tour ! Orvieto and Bagnoregio Civita plus an amazing winery ! Me and my hubby loved every moment and also met some lovely people! Will look at more trips like that 👌
Really great day tour of you want to go outside of Rome for a day . A bit rushed because it’s a full day itinerary but totally worth it . Viviana and Roberto were really great . 10/10 would recommend
We had an amazing time eating, learning, exploring, and shopping. You absolutely must visit these small towns that you would otherwise never visit. Our tour guide, Eduardo, was funny, informative, and made our tour even more entertaining. He gave a lot of recommendations and a ton of interesting facts. The tour was a great mix of history, knowledge, and solo exploration time. Even though it was raining and storming the entire time, we had a blast! Eduardo made sure that everyone was accommodated and comfortable. I definitely recommend signing up for this tour.
I went on the day trip to Orvieto and Bagnoregio and it was fantastic. Traveling solo can be intimidating and this tour felt very welcoming safe and informative. I was able to meet other travelers and learn more about central Italy. Eduardo was informative, kind, and gave perfect instructions on where and when to meet. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience!
Booked at 10.30 in the evening, for 07.15 the following morning, as a previous company let us down. Everything was in order regarding names, payments and communication. Guide and driver were brilliant, and the itinerary of the trip was varied and will remain as a big highlight of a week in Rome. Thank you.
This was our favorite excursion of our one week trip to Italy. We were two seniors who enjoyed visiting Tuscany for the first time. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. This was a 12 hour day from start to finish, but the time went by so quickly. I would recommend it to other adults.
I highly recommend this tour. Beautiful views and places visited. The sightseeing was well-organized. We were very impressed with the hospitality at the Fattoria Pulcino winery. Delicious wine and food with stunning views. Our guide, Errica, certainly deserves special mention and thanks. She took such great care of the tour participants and told us the history of the places we visited. She also shared various interesting facts and recommended things to see and do in Rome and the surrounding area. We also extend our gratitude to our brave driver, who drove us to our destinations for twelve hours and safely returned us to the winery when a heavy downpour began to rage. We highly recommend this tour to everyone. – Elżbieta and Kamil
The city of Civita is such a gem. An old treasure that you find and it surprises you. Our tour guide, Chiara, was fabulous, and very knowledgeable. She was aware of everyone’s needs.
Fantastic tour full of amazing sites! Our tour guide Chiara was friendly, well organized, informative about each location and full of interesting information between each location. Fabrizio our driver was friendly, expertly maneuvered the bus well through Italy's narrow streets and drove safely. Our first stop Civita Bagnoregio: Getting to Civita Bagnoregio has 80 steps then a long ascending bridge to get to but once there it is a lovely little town with extraordinary views!!! Our second stop Montepulciano: Lunch at Pulcino Family restaurant was lovely with delicious food & wine and a very pretty views. Our third and last stop Oriveto: A clift top pretty town with a stunning cathedral and views. It requires about a 10-15min walk from where the bus stops to get to the town. Prepare to walk a lot! Worth every step!!?
Lovely day trip! Bagnoregio is remarkable even if you don’t make the climb to the dead city. 5 tasting at a family owned winery from the 1600’s and Orvietio’s Duomo is absolutely stunning!
We had an amazing day! Our guide Parnian was wonderful and gave a lot of interesting information about our destinations and Italy in general. Parni together with our guide Roberto made us feel safe during the whole trip. Overall a great experience that I recommend!
I had a terrible experience with City Wonders and would not recommend this company. There were approximately 50 guests crammed onto the coach, plus the tour guide and driver, with nearly every seat occupied. After one of the stops, I moved because I felt uncomfortably close to the man seated in front of me. The guide had never said we couldn’t change seats. Instead of simply explaining the rule, she publicly chastised and tried to humiliate me in front of the entire bus. She made other guests move as well. She later rudely shamed another guest in front of everyone for being only a couple of minutes late. The guide was unfriendly, constantly grimaced when guests asked questions, and repeatedly walked away without making sure the full group was together. She had no microphone, so with nearly 50 people, we could barely hear her. I learned practically nothing about the places we visited—which is the entire point of paying for a guided tour. The locations themselves were beautiful, but the rude guide, cramped bus, and poor organization completely took away from the experience. Even the check-in staff were unwelcoming. Honestly, it felt like no one cared whether we enjoyed the tour. I am a travel advisor with extensive professional experience in the guided-tour industry, and I have taken tours with many companies around the world. This was by far the worst tour guide I have encountered. The experience was so bad that I immediately canceled another City Wonders tour I had booked for Pompeii. I will not book City Wonders for any of my future clients. Save your money. Rent a car and visit these towns yourself, or book a genuine small-group excursion with a different company.

There is quite a bit of walking but if you’re ok with that. This is a fantastic time. It’s worth every penny and then some!! Food was good the lady guide was great!
We loved the day trip, bus was very comfortable. The amount and what we experience was worth it. The guide and driver were excellent.
What a beautiful place and what a work out to get to it. This hike is not for the average person, yoy must be in decent shape. We saw many paramedics helping people who could not make the trip across to the top. Once there, a few restaurants, lots of air bnb's, tons a amazing a sweet cats! Beautiful views of the countryside and town! Delicious Gelato!
What an incredible day! This tour was honestly one of the highlights of our entire trip to Italy. Everything was perfectly organized from start to finish, and the combination of beautiful towns, breathtaking countryside, delicious food and Brunello wine tasting made the whole experience unforgettable. Chiara was absolutely amazing! She was warm, funny, knowledgeable and so passionate about everything she showed us. She shared so many interesting stories and information throughout the day without ever making it feel overwhelming, and she created such a friendly and relaxed atmosphere for everyone. A special mention also goes to our wonderful driver, who was extremely professional, friendly and made us feel safe and comfortable throughout the entire journey. We took so many beautiful photos and came back to Rome with even more beautiful memories. ❤️ If you want to experience Tuscany and Umbria while staying in Rome, I genuinely couldn’t recommend this tour enough. Thank you Chiara and the whole team for such a special day! 10/10!
Chiara and Antonio (our driver) were friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating! It was a long day but we didn’t go hungry, had time to rest, and learned so much! Great experience!
The tour it self is fantastic. You get to see and learn so much about different cultures and how the fundament was made and how they try hard too maintain it without doing too much. Our tour guide Yun was amazing. Also very nice arms 🤣 But little jokes aside, he was fantastic. Explained the history very nice and calm
Amazing experience, Jonathan was our guide and he was so incredibly knowledgeable of everywhere we went. His generosity to share that knowledge was unbeatable. Highly recommend this unforgettable day.
The experience exceeded our expectations and John, our guide, was the best.
John was an excellent guide! He showed us two amazing cities and shared lots of interesting information along the way. The tour was well organized, enjoyable, and informative. We had a fantastic time and highly recommend John to anyone looking for a great guide. Thank you!
We had a great tour! Jonathon was a great guide and it was very organized. My highlight was our beautiful lunch at the Vineyard. Would totally recommend for anyone looking for a day trip out of Rome.
