This villa complex, one of the most evocative archaeological areas in the Roman countryside, extends between miles I and II of the via Appia Antica. It comprises three main buildings – the palace, the circus and the dynastic mausoleum, designed in an integral architectonic unit to celebrate the Emperor Maxentius, Constantine the Great's unfortunate adversary in the Battle of Ponte Milvio in 312 AD.
Ruins of an awesome site of bath and therms of Roman Times.

Renting bikes and riding the Appian Way was such a great experience/memory. It was so nice to be away from the city for a day. There are restaurants and bars along the way. Currently many of the ruins are being restored with little access. I would recommend renting pedal assist as there are long gentle slopes and one solid climb, unless you're in great shape.
Such a great day. Staff were very helpful telling us about what to see on route. Called in a small family restaurant along the way such lovely people. Wish I could do this again tomorrow
The trail is very, very bumpy, so it's a rough ride. The bikes can handle it. And I would do it again, but it was just a surprise. How rough it was?
Reserved 2 electric mountain bikes. Arrived before they opened at 9.30am Beautiful hot sunny day. Both bikes were in a good state of repair, we were given a bag for the bike to hold our stuff, and a lock with key. The man gave us a map and explained where to go etc. We enjoyed 3 hours riding along the Appian. Way One of our favourite activities of the holiday
We like cycling so to do it on the oldest road with perfect weather was a joy. We could have continued all day for miles more but other arramgements curtailed it.
The ebike is very good and helped us to travel along appian way, catacombs and also to aqueducts and baths of caracalla because it was easy cycling. The location of this shop is right at the bus stop and near the entry road to st calixtus catacomb so very convenient. Make sure you pick up a helmet as it's a bumpy ride on the appian way. I wouldn't do this if you're over 50 as can be bumpy
Get the mountain bikes for bumpy Roman era roads. Great instructions to get to aqueduct. Beautiful. Very happy with experience!
Great to Go outside the City. Biking IS easy but Mountainbike you should get for bumpiness. Invest the 8€ allong the path to See the different sites, its worth it!
I loved every minute of this bike but warning it’s rough terrain so Really recommend the E bike! I upgraded to a better bike and enjoyed my experience way more than if I had just had a regular one diffuser spectacular and the scenery is just magical it was so fun to do it on a bike.
Extremely interesting, sometimes challenging cycling through this ancient Italian landscape!! The ride is slow & go with plenty of side details to absorb. The To and Fro for the trail access was, um, tricky. I have two suggestions: Bike mirrors & lights for safety // clearer Map drawn with graphics (roads, directions, paths) designated. Riding along side the speedy traffic was horrendous for me. Take my ideas please, before someone is hurt. Thanks all, Paul Marinello 06/23
As advertised. They provided a detailed map, and the staff was helpful explaining the route including a detour to Aqueduct Park. Pack a pair of bike shorts, it’s a bumpy road.
Great trip along the Appian Way. Staff very helpful and the two e- bikes we rented were in good condition. Most of the road is cobbled and a bit treacherous in the heavy rain we had for an hour. Once the sun came out this was a breathtaking day out.
Bikes were in very poor condition. Very poorly maintained, chains kept coming off both our bikes, they were noisy, gears constantly grating. Don’t think they had seen a drop of oil in a long time. While the route on the Via Appia Antica is lovely and worth doing, I would not recommend hiring bikes from this outlet.
Professional problem with 1 muscle bike exchange for 2 electric bikes to satisfy us Well done and thank you Philip
Such a great day out from the city. The Appia Antica Bike Rental was easy to book, and they were nice enough to allow me to change the days after i had booked. Very friendly and helpful staff, would highly recommend them to anyone wanting to hire some bikes for a great relaxing ride down the way.
I loved the bicycle rental experience and the ease of which I could access the Via Appia. I’d highly recommend to anyone interested in exploring and enjoying a beautiful and relaxed day in Rome. The electric bikes are easy, even on the sometimes difficult and cobbled road. Staff in the collection point were super friendly and there are lockers if you need to store anything. I had a great day and very positive experience.
We enjoyed the beautiful scenery along the Appia Antica Regional Park. The bikes were in very good condition and the rental office is easy to get to with the Metro and Bus. It was nice to have a break from the crowds in Rome.
<p>Very easy and convenient bike rental! Employee at desk helped me navigate to all the places I wanted to go.</p>
<p>This vendor was extremely hard to find as my booking did not give a complete address. After travelling to the Appian Way by train and bus, I had to walk more than 2 km and was lucky to find the bike hire place. I was out in the 'middle of nowhere' in a foreign country on my own. Not impressed!</p>
Fantastic surroundings. Great and friendly service from the bike rental ... But... The via Appia and an electric bike was a bad combo. The road itself is not drivable in some places due to the height differences in the stones. The alternative is to drive on a side path. A dirt road with roots of trees and stones. Just wide enough for 1 bike, so there was often a traffic jam because people were stuck. We gave up quickly. Still packed the catacombs. The effort. In the meantime I met five bikers who also called it a night. We did the trip on a Sunday. Which caused extra crowds by local churchgoers and cars. It's too bad. Because the location was super.
Alles super.
Manchmal muss man eben einige Meter schieben.
Great bike rental shop for an unforgettable day. Very friendly & efficient staff. Quality bikes. Tourist site to discover!
I was very well served by the employee, the value of the rental is €5 per hour and €3 the rest. Give preference to a bicycle with absorbers, because large portion of Via Apia is original and the pedestrian stones are large and irregular. I recommend the tour, there are several ruins on the way that make great photos.
I rented the bike and drove around for several hours on my own, with the help of the leaflet and the information given to me by the office. Lovely place. I returned in the evening for a concert at the villa of quintiles.
Beautiful surprise above our expectations. We covered 12 km by bike round trip arriving to the Casal Rotondo mausoleum. It 'very impressive both in terms of landscape and historical level. Walking time 3 hours, we rented the bikes at the Appia Antica Service Center in Via Appia Antica n.58/60. Also suitable for children.
Great walk away from the city. We did it as a couple and bike and we really had a great time. The small leaflet given to the information point is very useful.
Getting to the rental station was easy by metro and bus and the store was easy to find. Our booking was brought out immediately and we got a short briefing for the e-bikes and a detailed explanation of the route. Our questions were answered in detail and the young lady was very friendly. The route is largely traffic-calmed, only residents of Via Appia are allowed to use the route. In summer there is probably a lot more going on, but we enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the impressive monuments along the route without large crowds of visitors. We can absolutely recommend this trip! If you want to experience something apart from the big city, this is the place for you!
