This hotel is a complete scam. It can't be described otherwise. I would like to clarify that this hotel was assigned to me through an agency for a Europe circuit I acquired. The location is terrible. The hotel is in a remote "nowhere" location, being one hour away (using public transport) from the city center. The rooms are even worse. The bathrooms are unusable because the shower water isn't draining, nor is the sink water. We sought help from the hotel, but they refused to help. The hotel refused to switch our room because apparently they didn't have any available, and they didn't have enough personnel, so no one could be sent to take a look at the bathroom. There are three people using this room, needing to wash their hands, brush their teeth, and take showers like anybody. Solving this was clearly not in the best interest of this hotel. They could only send help until the next day, neglecting that we were set to leave early in the morning to visit Rome (city center) and come back late at night (we are staying two nights) with the agency. The hotel staff refused to give me the name of the manager. Moreover, when we used the bathroom for the first time, we noticed that one of the towels was unwrapped. Undoubtedly, this hotel fails to check that their rooms are completely functional before being handed over to their customers. The 4-star advertisement is completely inaccurate.

★☆☆☆☆ – Very disappointing stay We unfortunately cannot recommend this hotel at all. We were shocked as soon as we entered the room. The room was in a very poor hygienic condition, and we certainly did not get the impression that it had been thoroughly cleaned. For a hotel, cleanliness is the absolute minimum – unfortunately, this minimum was not met here. Breakfast was also a major disappointment. The selection was very limited, the quality of the food was poor, and overall the offering did not come close to meeting the expectations one would have of a hotel. The drinks and snack vending machine was out of order throughout our stay. Especially in summer, it is completely unacceptable that you cannot even easily buy a bottle of water in the hotel. The Wi-Fi was equally terrible. The internet connection was extremely slow, kept dropping out, and was practically unusable. On top of that, there was an enormous amount of noise. Resting or getting a good night’s sleep was hardly possible. We were also not impressed by the hotel’s location at all. Access to public transportation and reaching the main sights was inconvenient and time-consuming. Our disappointment was ultimately so great that we decided to leave the hotel two days early and book another hotel at our own expense. We have never experienced anything like this before, but we did not want to spend the rest of our vacation in this hotel. Overall, we felt that the price and the quality of service were completely out of proportion. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this hotel and would definitely not return.
Air conditioning is really poor. The rooms are extremely noisy. We hear every step outside the hall and the alarm from other rooms. The pool is dirty and not included in the price. Breakfast is ok. Ca 50 mins to the city centre
We stayed at Hotel Excel Roma Montemario as part of a holiday tour group during the first week of June 2026 for three nights, and unfortunately it was one of the most disappointing hotels of our European trip. During our three-night stay we had to change rooms three times. The first room had no functioning air conditioning, making it extremely uncomfortable. The second room also had issues that required us to move again. In the third room, the television stopped working altogether. By that stage we had simply given up reporting problems and resorted to watching TV on our laptop. There was also no kettle in the room to make our own tea or coffee, which was an inconvenience. The hotel appears quite dated and in need of maintenance and refurbishment. One of the elevators felt unreliable, and after our tour guide became stuck inside it, many of us avoided using it altogether. This was particularly inconvenient as luggage had to be carried up and down stairs, with no assistance provided. Another disappointment was that the hotel bar was never open during our entire three-night stay, despite being advertised as an available facility. For international travellers, entertainment options were also limited. Even in the rooms where the television worked, there was no Netflix and very few English-speaking channels available. The breakfast was adequate and the location may suit some travellers, but the repeated room changes, maintenance issues, closed facilities and lack of amenities significantly impacted our stay, including our sleep duento the hard beds. On a positive note, the wifi worked, the breakfast was good and when we requested room changes due to the various issues, the staff did make an effort to resolve the problems and assist us. Based on our experience, and this hotel rating itself 4 stars, I would not choose to stay here again. Also please be aware you will be charged tax at the end of your stay.
We never chose this hotel as it was included as a part of a tour group. The hotel has good bones but it needs some attention to bring it up to a standard that most of us now expect, starting with getting the basics right like having reliable hot water, WI-FI, comfortable bedding and towels that you can't see through. It also has some accessibility issues for the older ones amongst us with 2 flights of stairs to navigate to get access to the foyer, I didn't need assistance for myself but had to help others on the tour with their luggage. Unfortunately once you reached the foyer, only one of the lifts were working to support a 4 floor hotel, this was quite an issue when you have 30 of us. The staff were friendly enough and the breakfast was a good offering.
